In 1944, a fire at the Ringling Brothers circus in Hartford, Connecticut became one of the worst tragedies in American history, killing at least 168 people and injuring 700 more. Investigators blamed a carelessly thrown cigarette for igniting the flame that took down the big top. But six years later, all eyes turned to Ohio when a Circleville man confessed to setting the fire as a 15-year-old roustabout with the circus. Get ready to deconstruct holiday cheer with this sensational marathon on *Weekly Spooky*! I'm your host, Enrique Couto, guiding you through a chilling selection of tales expertly remastered to amplify the eerie magic of the season. In this festive edition, join me on a spine-tingling jaunt filled with desperation, darkness, and all the holiday horrors that should never have found their way into the light. We kick off the eerie journey with "Biting Cold," a brutal story of survival against the bitter chill of winter and the lurking terrors it harbors. It follows a nameless man, wounded and trapped in a snowstorm, who wrestles with the chilling question of mortality versus survival. Here, amidst frozen landscapes, our protagonist must confront both the beasts of the wilderness and the demons of his mind, spiraling deeper into a fight for life at the brink of frostbite and despair.Next, we drift into "The Gathering," where a group of students at Black Oaks Academy are forced to confront the shadows of Christmas past as they huddle together amidst a raging blizzard, only to find that the warmth of companionship may not be enough to fend off the terror that dwells within the snow-covered darkness. Clashing personalities reveal buried resentments, and as mysteries unravel, a sinister stranger appears on their doorstep. In "Christmas Rage," we witness the chaos undulating just under the surface of a festive holiday, as mallgoers find themselves at the mercy of an unhinged Santa. The cheer of the season is quickly drowned out by the cries of horror as most are hunted down without mercy. The juxtaposition of holiday glee and gruesome violence will leave you questioning the thin line that separates joy from fear.As the marathon progresses, our thrills continue with "Tiny Christmas, Iowa," where a jaded New Yorker finds herself smack in the middle of a quaint small-town holiday that quickly devolves into a fight for survival against local legends intertwined with real-life terror. This charming facade rapidly crumbles when the cheerful inhabitants reveal themselves to harbor dark secrets, forcing her to confront the nightmarish reality hidden behind the cheery decorations.Next, brace yourself for "Santa Letters," a haunting tale tracing the deadly legacy of a vengeful spirit tied to Christmas letters gone awry, leaving a trail of blood that spans years and shadows the town of Circleville, Ohio. The eerie echo of children's laughter fades to silence as the community learns that the true horror lies not in the tales told, but in the unchecked darkness of our deepest fears. Finally, we reach "The Weather Outside is Frightful," where an unsuspecting blizzard brings more than just a chill to the air. Patrol officers find themselves facing a supernatural threat as the walls between reality and nightmare blend into a harrowing landscape where creatures of the night lurk just beyond their view, and no one is safe from the impending doom.So snuggle up tight, dear listeners, and prepare for the chilling tales we've unraveled just for you. Remember to stay subscribed for even more spine-tingling holiday stories throughout the festive season. You wouldn't want to miss out on the dangers that lurk when the lights dim and the snow swallows the screams, would you? Until next time, may your holiday season be spookily delightful! The Legend of Oopsie Poopsie" is a twisted, darkly comedic horror story about a grotesque, six-foot-tall baby with a bloodied rattle and a tragic, inbred origin. Set in a creepy Adirondack town, it blends absurd humor, chilling suspense, and over-the-top gore as an outsider discovers the horrifying truth behind the town's most infamous legend. In 1976, Circleville, Ohio, was terrorized by anonymous letters revealing personal details about residents' lives, with school bus driver Mary Gillespie as the primary target, accused of an affair with superintendent Gordon Massey. The situation escalated when Mary's husband, Ron, died in a suspicious car accident after receiving a threatening call. In 1983, a booby trap intended for Mary was discovered and linked to her brother-in-law, Paul Freshour, who was convicted of attempted murder despite dubious evidence. Yet, even after Paul's imprisonment, the letters continued, casting doubt on his guilt. Paul maintained his innocence until his death in 2012, but the true identity of the Circleville Letter Writer remains a chilling mystery. https://www.necronomipod.com https://www.patreon.com/necronomipod Learn more about your ad choices. A small town in Ohio and their school district were attacked by vicious letters for seemingly no reason. Similar to the Watcher in New Jersey with much more twists and turns. Letters written separately in 1977 then 1982 were specifically targeting a couple tied to the school and then in 1994 letters written to a reporter directly involved with the case. One person was accused, but was never proven true so the case still remains unsolved. The small town in question is Circleville, Ohio and tonight we're discussing The Circleville Letters. We go in detail about the case as well as our theories. This week, Marty and Mike lament the ending of their favorite podcast, 60 Songs that Explain the 90s, and make an impassioned plea for host Rob Harvilla to come to Chillicothe to sign copies of the book he wrote from the podcast. To avoid all the guys fanboying over Rob's show, start at 19:13. (But don't really.).Issac Steele is our guest this week, and he's started a self-defense small business to teach people of all ages how to defend themselves properly. We love spotlighting local products that return and do great things. He's not only a law enforcement officer in the area but someone passionate about helping people stay safe. We also talk a little about his career in mixed martial arts, which he has placed on hold for now but is still very connected to that world. The Davey Award-winning Feels Like Home Podcast is powered by Horizon - Greater Things are Coming! Episode 93 DOE: ID Robert Mullins On November 1st, 1991, hunters in Circleville, Ohio discovered unidentified human remains in a shallow grave near a private farm. Based on the size of the remains, the authorities thought that they belonged to a young woman. They also found evidence that the Doe's head had been moved with some kind of toothed saw, possibly indicating a homicide. After searching for missing women who might be a match for the Doe, police came up empty, and the case went cold. Over the years, various teams and experts worked with the remains, and the DNA gathered from them, and eventually discovered that the Jane Doe they had was actually a John Doe; the victim was a male. Eventually, DNA & genealogy led the authorities to ID the remains as belonging to Robert A. Mullins who was reported missing by his family. He had disappeared in Ohio in late 1988, or early 1989 when he was 21. Now the investigators knew who their victim was, but the search to find out the circumstances of his death, and who was involved, goes on. The case remains an open homicide investigation with the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Lt. Jonathan Strawser at (740) 474-2176. This Doe finally has his name back; it's Robert Mullins, and this is his story. In March 1977, school bus driver Mary Gillespie started receiving threatening letters delivered to her home in Circleville, Ohio. Some of y'all may be too young to remember, but in the days before email, getting a handwritten letter in the mail was fun. Somebody had taken the time to write out a message just for you and sent it through time and space. It could be from an old friend, a lost love, or a secret admirer. You couldn't wait to get inside and discover what was so important that it needed to be personally drafted for your eyes only. But when school bus driver Mary Gillispie opened an envelope addressed to her in 1976, she had no idea that it would mark the beginning of a bizarre campaign of terror that would dominate her life for decades. One that would include blackmail, obscenity, harassment, threats against her family, attempted murder, and letter after letter, drafted to disturb in the most intimate ways imaginable. And it wouldn't stop with Mary. The hysteria spread through the sleepy town of Circleville, Ohio like a plague. Secrets were exposed. Threats were made. Sometimes there were toxic powders in the envelopes, too. When the TV show Unsolved Mysteries got involved, they got their very own threatening letter—don't air the episode, or else. "I thought whoever this person was, you know, certainly they wouldn't go to the extent of putting a real gun in there just to scare me."For several months, Mary Gillispie had been receiving taunting letters from an unknown writer, the contents of which alleged she'd been having an affair with her boss. These letters evolved over time, ultimately becoming a full-fledged harassment campaign against Mary, her family, and others in their small community of Circleville, Ohio. The harassment had gone on for years, and police were no closer to figuring out the author's identity than they had been when the first letters were received in 1977. But in February of 1983, things took an unexpected turn...Part 2/2Research & writing by Bethany BransonHosting & production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3266604/advertisement

"This is your last chance to report him. I know you are a pig and will prove it and shame you out of Ohio. How is your little girl? Will she grow up to be like you?"There are hundreds of cities in the American Midwest just like Circleville, Ohio. But what makes it truly unique, what the town is most well-known for, is a strange letter-writing campaign that spanned two decades and may have left at least one person dead. The story began in March 1977 when the anonymous letter-writer penned a note to Westfall School District superintendent Gordon Massie, urging him to stop propositioning the female bus drivers that worked under him (an allegation that was never proven). In the weeks, months, and years to come, these letters would become much more threatening and broad in scope, seemingly aimed at random figures in the area that earned the author's ire...Part 1/2Research & writing by Bethany BransonHosting & production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3266604/advertisement
