Susan Walsh was a freelance journalist and writer who mysteriously disappeared on July 16, 1996, outside her home in Nutley, New Jersey. She had been investigating topics such as the Russian mafia and New York City's underground vampire community, which led to speculation about her disappearance. Suasan had a complex life—she worked as an exotic dancer to support herself while pursuing a degree in English at New York University. She had also struggled with substance abuse, though she had maintained 11 years of sobrietybefore her disappearance. To this day Susan's case remains unsolved, and theories range from foul play to voluntary disappearance. The Nutley Police Department continues to investigate Susan's case and anyone with information is urged to contact them at 973-284-4940 or the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit at 800-709-7090.  Click here to join our Patreon.  Connect with us on Instagram and join our Facebook group.  To submit listener stories or case suggestions, and to see all sources for this episode: https://www.inhumanpodcast.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. In the first ever English Episode of UNF#CK YOUR DATA host Christian Krug interviews Susan Walsh, the classification guru, on how to clean your dirty data. But firstly, what is dirty data and why does this pose a problem?Data in your company systems, like CRM or ERP, can have all sorts of issues. Duplicates, near duplicates, formats and so on.So the records which should match, don't. Or your numbers are off.Basically, you can't rely on the data in the system to make decisions. Like sending a mail or a leaflet. Potentially even an invoice. Or know who your real number one customer is.To help you deal with this mess, Susan has created a framework, which helps you cleaning up your data. You have to normalize and classify your data. First agree on a common format an fit the data to it. Afterwards you can give the data a meaning by classifying it.So you can further process the data and base your decisions on it.Sad news for all the AI enthusiasts out there: This still requires an awful lot of human knowledge. No speeding up the process. On the other hand this step is crucial for your AI success. As only good quality training data will lead to great AI results. Regardless, which use case you tackle first. But cleaning data one is not a lasting solution. It's a continuous effort and it hast to start at the very source where people enter the data into the systems. So data quality is a process and mantra.Find in this episode:- Why data sometimes is so dirty- How a COAT method can help you clean data- Why data quality is not an AI topic- Susans plans on a new framework▬▬▬▬▬▬ Profiles: ▬▬▬▬Zum LinkedIn-Profil von Susan: https://www.linkedin.com/in/susanewalsh/Christian at LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-krug/Unf*ck Your Data at Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unfck-your-data▬▬▬▬▬▬ Book recommendation: ▬▬▬▬Susans book recommendation: Buy back your time - Dan MartellThe “UYD” bookshelf at Melena's store: https://gunzenhausen.buchhandlung.de/unfuckyourdata▬▬▬▬▬▬ Where to find UN#CK YOUR DATA: ▬▬▬▬Podcast at Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6Ow7ySMbgnir27etMYkpxT?si=dc0fd2b3c6454bfaPodcast at iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/de/podcast/unf-ck-your-data/id1673832019Podcast at Deezer: https://deezer.page.link/FnT5kRSjf2k54iib6▬▬▬▬▬▬ Contact: ▬▬▬▬E-Mail: christian@uyd-podcast.com▬▬▬▬▬▬ Timestamps: ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬00:00 Introduction and Welcome01:13 Susan's Background and Expertise03:03 Types of Dirty Data04:01 The Impact of Dirty Data06:12 Cleaning Data and the Role of Excel07:34 The Limitations of AI in Data Cleaning09:26 Automating Supplier Name Normalization11:03 Data Classification and Context13:52 The Importance of Business Understanding16:26 The Role of Human Expertise in...

We have been connected for some time, and I think I met Susan for the first time at Big Data London 2022 and we recorded 4 questions as a mini 66. So here she is elaborating further on 62 questions! :-) Susan needs no real introductions from me! We had a great conversation, had a lot of fun and of course you can't see it, but in the background, there was her favourite icon – Robbie! She even remembers when she broke her leg at 18 months old! She's a self-confessed southern softie but still has her roots in Scotland! I hope you enjoy this episode please do like, share, and comment, and enjoy listening to Susan. Behind every data leader there is a person and here is Susan unplugged.

This week on S4 E74, my guest is my colleague - the self-proclaimed "Classification Guru" - Susan Walsh. She's from "across the pond" and is uber cheeky on LinkedIn while getting her point across (think: lip-syncing, boas and cardboard cut outs..!) One aspect of Data Integrity we both agreed on is that no matter what the industry, "dirty data" must be addressed to minimize numerous impacts downstream.  Susan takes us thru her handy acronym C.O.A.T. which serves as a checklist to keep in mind when it comes to ultimately building trust around the use of your data. So do listen out for those elements she shares.!!   And Susan shares tips on how you can clean your data using scrappy basic Excel as your tool...and she shares the higher-end tool her team uses to clean data. Her team has cleaned and classified data for many large organizations we've heard of -- but she can't share with us...! Susan's non-profit organization shout-out goes to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (www.RNLI.org) which is at the ready to provide safety & assistance 24/7 in the event of peril at sea. Susan's an original and savvy businesswoman. Thanks again, Susan! #mycuriouscolleague #CPGCX #theclassificationguru #customerservice

Lunch routines, laundry, kid art supplies, spoons, and teacups are details of domestic life that don't usually make it into the photo albums, or the tune titles. But they shape lives. And in the midst of the thousands of jigs and reels out there, the simple (and profound) cup of tea.. and the basket of turf are represented. Here's a meditation on tunes with prosaic titles and the stimulating stories behind them. _________________ For playlists, transcripts, links to videos, companion essays, sheet music to original tunes in this episode, and to contribute to this project, please head to IrishMusicStories.org. ___________________ Thank you to everybody for listening. Why did kids carry dead birds on sticks all over Ireland on the 26th of December? And what did this all have to do with first century Christian martyr St. Stephen? Just like traditional tunes, which can vary from player to player, the whole history of Wren Day depends on the storyteller. Learn more about the role a melody, a good story (or three), and a tiny bird has played in the centuries-long winter tradition of hunting the wren. _________________ For playlists, transcripts, links to videos, companion essays, and to contribute to this project, please head to IrishMusicStories.org. ___________________ Thank you to everybody for listening. And to turn an old Irish reel into an old time tune can involve adjusting notes to suit different instruments, using different techniques… and also digging into the non-musical stories. Most Irish traditional tunes have names. Some go by many different names. So what's in a name? Do names help us associate tunes with people, or remember vast numbers of melodies… or is there another agenda afoot? In this episode, Colm Gannon, Nic Gareiss, Mick Moloney—and renowned 20th century literary figures Dick and Jane—explore the meaning behind the names. __________________ For playlists, transcripts, links to videos, companion essays, and to contribute to this project, please head to IrishMusicStories.org. ___________________ Thank you to everybody for listening. When flute player and police captain Francis O'Neill published his first and most extensive collection of Irish tunes in 1903, he included a LOT of tunes. Nicholas Carolan called it “the largest snapshot of this music ever taken in its 9,000 year history.” 120 years later, I revisit O'Neill's two biggest books, to explore what's in there, and what isn't. With the help of authors Michael O'Malley and Ronan O'Driscoll, librarian Aedin Clements, and fiddle player/scholar Laura Flanagan. I attempt to deepen (and maybe even adjust) my perspective on this heavy piece of the Irish music foundation. __________________ For playlists, transcripts, links to videos, companion essays, and to contribute to this project, please head to IrishMusicStories.org. ___________________ Thank you to everybody for listening.
