Eric and Mike The Cop will break down the case of Casey Anthony, who was accused and acquitted of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony in 2008. Anthony initially told investigators Caylee had been kidnapped, prompting a massive search for the girl. In 2011, after more than 10 hours of jury deliberations, she was acquitted of murder but convicted of providing false information to law enforcement. She has since admitted lying to police in multiple interviews. Now she has launched a TikTok and a newsletter to "reintroduce" herself as a legal advocate. Has seeing sympathy for the Menendez Brothers and a culture that has crumbled in 15 years made her think she can capitalize on her infamy? Learn more about your ad choices. The Caylee Anthony Case The story of Casey Anthony and her daughter Caylee has captivated the nation since the toddler was first reported missing in July 2008. The saga began on July 15, 2008, when Cindy Anthony, Casey's mother, reported to the police that her 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee, had been missing for a month. This phone call set off a painstaking search for the toddler and an intense investigation into her then-22-year-old mother, Casey. Investigations into Casey's cell phone, computer, and vehicle revealed internet searches for chloroform and neck-breaking, as well as traces of chloroform and human decomposition in her car trunk. Consequently, Casey was charged with first-degree murder in October 2008. Two months later, Caylee's skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home in Florida. You can also listen to this interview as a free podcast in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, our website or most major podcast platforms. Throughout her 2011 trial and since her controversial acquittal, Casey has maintained her innocence, offering inconsistent explanations for Caylee's death. Initially, she claimed a babysitter kidnapped Caylee, later stating that Caylee accidentally drowned in the family pool. In the 2022 Peacock documentary “Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies,” she accused her father, George Anthony, of staging Caylee's drowning to cover up his alleged sexual abuse of her. The Pulse Nightclub Shooting On June 12, 2016, 29-year-old Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 people and wounded 53 others at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, before being fatally shot by Orlando Police officers after a three-hour standoff. In a 9-1-1 call shortly after the shooting began, Mateen pledged allegiance to the Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and cited the U.S. killing of Abu Waheeb in Iraq as the trigger for his actions. He later told a negotiator that his actions were motivated by American-led interventions in Iraq and Syria. The FBI deemed the incident a terrorist attack. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest and other social media platforms. Pulse was hosting a "Latin Night," and most victims were Latino. The shooting was the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks and the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history until the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. Around 320 people were inside the club when Mateen began shooting at 2:02 a.m., killing and injuring dozens. CSI on Notorious Murders: Caylee Anthony and Pulse Nightclub Shooting - Special Episode. Her mother Casey was ultimately found not guilty of her child's death but was charged with lying to authorities. Few people, aside apparently from the jury, seem to believe she wasn't at least heavily involved. Since then, Casey has turned on her parents, her father in particular, and has leveled hideous accusations against him. June 16, 2008... the last day two-year-old Caylee Anthony is seen alive. One month later her grandmother Cindy Anthony franticly calls 911 to report her granddaughter is missing. Casey Anthony claims that a babysitter kidnapped her daughter. By October when nothing Casey tells police turns out to be true, she is arrested and charged in Caylee's death, even though Caylee is still missing. On December 11th, Caylee's remains are found in a garbage bag, dumped in a wooded area near the Anthony home. Eight days later, Caylee's death is ruled a homicide. Prosecutors announce they will seek the death penalty against her. At Casey Anthony's trial, her lawyer first makes clams that George Anthony was molesting his daughter and that he staged Caylee's death to look like a drowning to cover up that he may have been abusing his granddaughter as well. Those claims, made again after Casey Anthony is acquitted in the death, have haunted the Anthonys for years. Now, George and Cindy Anthony agree to take a lie detector test in front of cameras for the A&E network special "Casey Anthony's Parents: The Lie Detector Test." What happened when he is asked if he had anything to do with Caylee's death? In 2008, George and Cindy Anthony were worried about their two-year-old granddaughter Caylee. They hadn't seen her in 31 days, and their daughter Casey was being cagey. When Casey's car showed up in a tow yard, along with Caylee's carseat and the distinct smell of human decomposition, they demanded answers. Casey said a nanny named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzales had taken her, but her story was fraught with lies. Authorities became involved, and the search for Caylee was on. But one person stood in the way of uncovering the truth : her mother, Casey Anthony. Void of tears, Casey changed her story time and time again, going so far as to point the finger at her own father. This media frenzy of a case rocked the nation, breaking the hearts of people near and far. We'll untangle Casey's web of lies and uncover chilling details that are hard to believe. Plus, we'll discuss a haunting detail missed by the prosecution that may have changed the outcome all together. Tune in to find out why Casey Anthony truly is the most hated mother in America. Happy Haunting!

Over 12 years ago, Casey Anthony walked out of the Orange County jail a free woman. Much of the country watched her murder trial play out on live TV, including the moment the jury found her not guilty, but there were some things happening behind the scenes that you didn't see. The judge at the center of it all, Belvin Perry, joined the hosts of Florida's Fourth Estate to share the experience from his perspective. This includes his thoughts on how Anthony's defense team was able to get her acquitted of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter Caylee Anthony. “Jose Baez, at the time, probably wasn't the sharpest person on the evidence code, but he was well prepared, and he did something that good lawyers do,” Perry said. “Once you determine the makeup of the 12 people in that jury, he tailored his case to fit them. It's just like a great football coach. You go into any game with a gameplan, but you must make adjustments and Baez made those adjustments and he learned how to play to the jury.” The jury was made up of seven women and five men who had to be sequestered for the full length of the trial. Perry said it was a lot of work dealing with a case that would last six to eight weeks with jurors that had to be holed up in a hotel room, but added that the Central Florida community helped to lighten the load. He said the media agreed on the best way to cover the trial and when they found out the jury was staying at Rosen Shingle Creek, “they did not publish it, we had no problem with them following jurors.” He said Harris Rosen also bent over backward to make sure the jurors were well taken care of while being sequestered. “Harris Rosen was just tremendous when we talked to him,” Perry said. “He gave us an excellent deal on the rooms, gave us everything we wanted — even structured the meal prices to fit into the per diem, which is unheard of. They even changed the locks on the doors on the stairwell on the floor that they were on you couldn't access it from the outside.” Perry said there were also times when the pool and exercise facilities were shut down so the jurors could use them uninterrupted. The TVs were also adjusted so the jurors could not watch news shows. Towards the end of the trial, with so many people interested in the case, Perry said the jurors were down to only three channels they could watch. To better cater to the jury, Perry said each one was allowed to have one visitor on the weekends. “They could come on Saturday afternoons, they just had to be out by midnight,” Perry said. The judge had to deal with some fallout from the trial as well. That includes becoming, what felt like, an overnight celebrity. “One day we got out of court and for whatever reason I went by Ross on Michigan and I went in there and I was looking for a picture frame,” Perry said. “When I got home my daughter called me. She said, ‘Daddy someone recorded you in Ross and they posted it on Facebook.'” It didn't end there. Perry said people approached him about the case everywhere he went. Once, a group of people even started recording him while he was eating dinner. “I had to stop going to the grocery store. If I did go eat, I had to eat at certain places where I could be left alone. I couldn't go anywhere,” he said. Still, he said the trial was a great experience for himself and the community. “I think it opened up to the world how the judicial system works,” Perry said. “You got a chance to see firsthand. Most people didn't agree with the outcome of the case, but at least they saw what happened and I think it is very important that courts that are open to the public, that the public gets to see it firsthand.” To hear more about Perry's experience serving as the judge on the Casey Anthony murder trial check out Florida's Fourth Estate. Caylee Anthony was the two-year-old daughter of Casey Anthony, a neglectful mother who seemed to prioritize her party lifestyle over the life of her daughter. When Caylee's grandparents asked to see their grandchild, as it had been some time since they'd been with her, Casey confessed that her daughter was allegedly taken by a nonexistent nanny, had been missing for the last 31 days, and she hadn't bothered to report it. On this episode we dive into what happened during trial of Casey Anthony. What the jury hears is very important and in this case, what they didn't hear proved to be even more important.
Caylee Anthony was last seen alive on June 16th 2008 by her grandparents. When the police were finally involved in her disappearance on July 15th, 2008 , 31 days had passed since anyone else had seen Caylee. Immediately Casey Anthony began to spin a web of lies about Caylee's whereabouts.
It's been 15 years since Caylee Anthony died. Her mother, Casey Anthony, was acquitted of first-degree murder, but was convicted of lying to police and served a three-year prison sentence. Now Anthony will reportedly explain all in a new three-part docuseries airing on Peacock at the end of the month. Showrunner and Director Alexandra Dean says in a release that the programs will explore Anthony's "personal archives" and "behind the scenes" footage. Dean writes “Since her acquittal in 2011, public opinion of Casey Anthony has been largely shaped by the media convinced of her guilt.” Anthony has never given an in-depth or on-camera interview explaining her actions. According to Dean, Anthony had no creative control on the series, which was filmed over the course of six months. Joining Nancy Grace Today: John W. The mystery surrounding the 2008 disappearance and death of two-year-old Caylee Anthony gripped the nation. Was she the victim of her neglectful party girl mother Casey? Or was a darker family secret to blame? The only thing more shocking than the testimony from the trial of Casey Anthony was the verdict itself. This week's Court TV Podcast tells the story of Casey Anthony's trial and the shocking aftermath with an episode of the original series Judgment with Ashleigh Banfield.
