Distinguished historian, renowned for his biographies of Ronald Reagan, has expressed his critical perspective on Joe Biden's tenure as President, predicting he might end up as the 'most ineffective' leader the United States Executive Branch has ever seen. The historian, Craig Shirley by name, offered these candid thoughts in reaction to a recently conducted survey that rated Biden higher than Reagan, placing him as the 14th on the list of 'most outstanding presidents' in the Nation's history. In response to this survey, Shirley stated, 'It gave me a sense of unease,' qualifying the survey's so-called experts as skewed towards the left. He shared, that in his opinion, Biden has not lived up to the demanding role of the presidency. 'Biden will, in time, be seen by impartial historians as the least effective president in the annals of the United States,' he conveyed in his interaction with the Washington Examiner. Shirley's latest work, a book titled 'The Search for Reagan', reinforces the author's credentials as a leading authority on the 40th president. He is also on the cusp of publishing another insightful biography, this time on the life and political journey of an earlier executive-wielding tycoon, ex-President Donald Trump. Shirly's thoughts on Biden's performance, however, did not stop there.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It is through the lens of history that the actions and decisions of our leaders are truly seen and understood. In response to a recent grading on U.S. Presidents, presidential historian and Ronald Reagan biographer, Craig Shirly, shared unsettling sentiments in connection to the present Head of State, Joe Biden. The survey, conducted by the scholars of Presidential Greatness Project, surprisingly ranked President Biden over Reagan, seeding him as the 14th greatest president in US history. The notion did not sit well with Shirley, who expressed distaste and dismissed the analysts as having a left-leaning inclination. In direct reaction to the survey's outcome, Shirley, the accomplished author of 'The Search for Reagan' and a soon-to-be-published biography on President Trump, replied with fervor and dared to forecast the historical judgement of Biden. According to him, the judgement of impartial historians, in the fullness of time, will place Biden as the least effective among all American Presidents, a prediction drenched more in concern than in annoyance. While expressing his disdain towards the study's results, the Reagan biographer voiced that the notion of Biden being a distinguished president was an absurdity. He asked rhetorically, 'Can we highlight one sphere where his success sparkles, except for budget consumption?' It was pointed out that the task of squandering resources, in his view, does not take immense skill or brilliance.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The wonders of modern technology mean many men now spend most of their working lives sat at desks or screens, exerting very little physical energy. We now pay money to do the kind of labour for which our forebears were themselves paid. What are the hidden costs of this today? Have we become less active, less fulfilled, and less purposeful in the world as a result? The "Muscular Christianity" movement in the 19th century saw these problems well in advance. At a time where Christianity, for many men, was becoming overly intellectual and impractical, the Muscular Christians exhorted men to rediscover the positive use of their bodies as a spiritual and theological imperative. Although this led some towards a more "social gospel", the movement grasped key aspects of the Christian faith which have again been neglected today, such as the cultivation of character through brotherhood and sport, the significance of distinctly male and female bodies, and the need for virtuous men who can use their strength to protect (rather than abuse) those weaker than men. What might a revival of a more "muscular" Christianity look like in our own time? ** Please help Pod of the Gaps by ... - Liking us and/or leaving a review on your podcast provider - Sharing an episode with a friend (or two or three) - Supporting us (https://www.patreon.com/wkop) RESOURCES: - https://twitter.com/MrT — for our cover image this episode - Greg Morse, 'The Search for Manly Men of God: A History of Muscular Christianity' (2022) https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/the-search-for-manly-men-of-god - Thomas Hughes, Tom Brown's Schooldays (1857) - W. The original episode went out on the Results Mindset Podcast a year ago and it's a keynote that I did at the unlimited conference in Finland called 'The Search is Over (except when it isn't)... by far our most listened to show. Enjoy!
There are some things that just don’t go together. And it is something like a generally accepted fact that science and religion belong on that list. They don’t mix. In a recent study of both practicing Catholic Young Adult between the ages of 20-30 and former Catholic Young Adults of the same age, one thing that they all had in common: is that they believe science and religion ultimately conflict with one another. They All think that. And that study represents the norm, rather than the exception. If there is a place for religion it is assumed that it is a place that steers clear of science. Or so it seems. We want to re-examine this apparent certainty. So we are launching a short series on Church Life Today, in which we will talk with Catholic Scientist about science and religion. About questions of faith and reason. And even about the vocation and witness of Catholics who are drawn to the scientific fields with the mission to engage in a serious inquiry alongside which the faith of the church requires no apology. Our First guest in this series is Dr. Stephen Barr, professor of physics at the University of Delaware. You might not have read some of his notable research publications like 'Minimality Conditions and Atmospheric neutrino Oscillations' or 'The Search for a Permanent Electric Dipole Moment', but you may have run across some of his VERY popular and important books like 'Modern Physics and Ancient Faith', 'Science and Religion: The Myth of Conflict' or 'The Believing Scientist: Essays on Science and Religion'. Dr. Barr obtained his Ph.D. at Princeton University and is a fellow of the American Physical Society. He is also a founding member, and the current president, of the rapidly growing Society of Catholic Scientist. Which brings together leading scientist from all over the globe, who seek to answer the call of St. John Paul II, to “Integrate the worlds of science and religion in their own intellectual and spiritual lives” ------ Resources: Modern Physics and Ancient Faith - http://a.co/5HGRaTu Science and Religion: The Myth of Conflict - http://a.co/hAlVFB5 The Believing Scientist: Essays on Science and Religion - http://a.co/4N9Pjw1 ------ Live: www.redeemerradio.com Follow Redeemer Radio on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram: @RedeemerRadio Follow McGrath Institute for Church Life on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram: @McGrathND Subscribe to the Podcast: iTunes | Google Play | SoundCloud
http://youtu.be/kVs3mSmDRJI This week we have an extended podcast as we interview independent film maker & director Martin Gooch. Martin first came to our attention with his wonderfully sweet & charming award winning movie 'The Search for Simon', which tells the story of David, a man who is searching for his younger brother Simon, who disappeared without a trace and has never been seen since. 30 years after his disappearance, David is still looking, and the search for Simon has become his life's obsession. In the podcast we discuss Search for Simon, his earlier award winning movie 'Death' (aka 'After Death'), and some of his upcoming projects. These include a movie adaptation of award winning novelist Robert Rankin's book 'Alice On Mars', and an adaptation of fantasy novelist legend Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy book 'Deathtrap Dungeon'. Martin also directed the BAFTA award winning and EMMY nominated Spooks interactive (BBC/Kudos) and was a two time BBC New Director of... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Alastair Francis Buchan, the Montague Burton Professor of International Relations for Oxford University, explores the concept of 'transnationalism' in his sixth Reith lecture. Speaking from his series entitled 'Change without War', he concludes his lectures on international relations. In this lecture entitled 'The Search for a New Order', Professor Alastair Buchan speculates whether we might be able to control and adapt the dynamic process of change in order to reduce the eruptions of conflict around the globe. He explores whether functional co-operation and changes in national attitudes could lead to a more open, transnational society.
