The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid has been named North American Car of the Year, and nobody knows more about the car and process than NACTOY jurors Jack Nerad and Matt DeLorenzo, who host and co-host this week's show. They'll take you behind the scenes to discuss not only the winning vehicle but also the procedures that resulted in the choice of Honda's highly popular compact car. At the same time, Nerad and DeLorenzo will offer long looks at the winners of the North American Utility of the Year and North American Truck of the Year — the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz and the 2025 Ford Ranger. You'll hear commentary on these vehicles you won't get anywhere else. In our interview segment this week, you'll also hear a discussion you won't hear anywhere else. Russell Wager, Kia America's vice president of marketing, is our guest. Jack Nerad sat down with him to talk about the opportunities and challenges presented as the country transitions from the Biden years to the Trump era. Speaking of Biden, as one of his last acts in office, he and his Administration essentially banned Chinese-built cars from entering the U.S. market and, at the same time, banned vehicles with Chinese technology and hardware. We'll discuss the ramifications of that coming up. In our road test segment, guest co-host Matt DeLorenzo will detail the special virtues of the 2025 Infiniti QX55, and Jack Nerad will provide an in-depth report on the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric — a vehicle that might be the best value among battery-electric vehicles right now. Listener Question of the Week “It seems like electric cars are more expensive than gasoline vehicles, but some people tell me that you can quickly make up the difference because they cost much less to own and operate. Is that true or are folks just blowing smoke?” Rudy, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Matt DeLorenzo's Book Pick up a copy of co-host Matt DeLorenzo's terrific new book How to Buy an Affordable Electric Car: A Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership. Honda introduced its 0 Series electric vehicles—the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon prototypes—at CES, and our guest co-host for the week, Matt DeLorenzo was on hand to report on them. Set for production in 2026 at its Ohio EV Hub, these “shockingly” styled models showcase innovative features like Honda's ASIMO OS, the company's custom operating system offering personalized mobility and “seamless” over-the-air updates. As DeLorenzo reports in this episode, the new production vehicles' peas-in-a-pod" styling is attention-getting, to say the least. Embracing a "Thin, Light, and Wise" design theme, they deliver spacious, flexible interiors, advanced digital experiences, and expected Level 3 automated driving. Both concepts use a “system-on-chip” (SoC) developed in partnership with Renesas Electronics to unify vehicle systems, and they also feature steer-by-wire technology and ultra-personalized driving modes. We'll have more details in this episode. This week's special guest is Paul Tyll, Director of Dodge Products — Musclecar. Host Jack had a chance to sit down for an in-depth interview with him during the recent introductory drive event for the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona. He knows more about that car than just about anyone, so tune in for that. In this week's road tests, DeLorenzo takes a long look at the Kia Sorento crossover SUV based on a road trip in the vehicle in and around Chicago. Halfway across the country, Nerad puts the appealing Mazda CX-50 small crossover through its paces on the pre-fire roads of Southern California. Each will have a full report on their respective test vehicle in this week's show. In the news, General Motors' head of design, Michael Simcoe, is retiring after 42 years at the company. We'll discuss his legacy and what his departure might signal for the future of automotive design. In the international intrigue department, it looks like Ford Motor Company might be at odds with the U.S. Department of Defense over its deal with a Chinese battery maker, and we'll give you more on that. BMW has also unveiled a radical new infotainment scheme that it will install in many of its upcoming vehicles, so we'll tell you all about that. Listener Question of the Week Listener Asa from Oregon asks if we will ever see the battery breakthrough that experts keep talking about.  Our experts will have an answer. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is the last of its generation, and all indications are it is going to be missed. This week, Host Jack Nerad got a special chance to say goodbye to the old and respected warrior as he took the wheel for the last time before an all-new 2025 model-year 4Runner arrives. While many are excited about the new 4Runner and its equally new turbocharged powerplant, a similar number seem wistful about the passing of the current generation SUV, which has proven itself tough as a month-old bag of jerky. Some of its toughness stems from its venerable normally aspirated V6 engine, which just seems to keep ticking and ticking no matter how old or what obstacles are thrown in its way. Nerad will tell us more about his last hurrah with the 4Runner in this episode. In our other road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague will put the new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek through its paces. While not as fully off-road capable as the 4Runner, it boasts some impressive off-road chops of its own. And despite its new body, it remains powered by the latest version of Subaru's famed boxer engines, another powerplant that has more than proven its worth. Teague will tell us more in the road test segment. This week our special guest is Matt DeLorenzo, author of How To Buy An Affordable Electric Car, a Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership. An auto expert par excellence, DeLorenzo has been on the show several times before, and he always has an insightful point of view on individual cars and the car industry as a whole. Now, as electric vehicle sales have hit a lull, we'll talk with him about what is likely to end up in your driveway going forward. Will we have an all-electric future as so many have predicted? Or is an industry reset occurring before our eyes? DeLorenzo will give us his well-informed opinions. In the news this week, Jeep has confirmed it will re-launch its Renegade as a battery-electric vehicle for the 2027 model year. And it will have a base price of less than $25,000. We'll tell you more about Jeep's aggressive EV plans. Speaking of EVs, Tesla's Elon Musk will get his $56 billion pay package after all, at least if Tesla Motors' shareholders get their way. Musk has big plans for his Texas-based car company going forward, and we'll have more on that continuing saga. Another continuing saga isn't going nearly as well. Fisker Motors, an EV start-up helmed by car designer turned entrepreneur Henrik Fisker, has officially filed for bankruptcy. If everybody had an Ocean across the USA, then things would be different. But it looks like they won't. In more positive news, BMW has just pulled the curtain away from its all-new 2025 X3 small SUV. We'll have the details and our reactions to its new look. The stunning Bohema will be hand-built in very low numbers over the next four years. One of its calling cards is its incredible lightness of being. At less than 2,200 pounds, it offers one horsepower for every 3.14 pounds. Its 700 horsepower is impressive enough, even in this age of 1,000-horsepower electric cars, but that weight-to-power should result in a startlingly fast road car with remarkable handling. Praga says it “could well be the last all-new petrol-powered hypercar.” The $1.5 million all-carbon aero-driven two-seater built by Czech craftsmen is bound to pique hypercar collectors' interest. In other news this week, Volkswagen is celebrating 75 years in the American market, and we'll give you some of the highlights along the way and talk about the prospects for Volkswagen in the United States going forward. The Beetle first landed here for sale in 1949, and that began an incredible saga that continued in roller-coaster fashion to the present day. In other news, the Dubai Police have taken delivery of a very unlikely new police cruiser and added it to their fleet this week. We'll tell you what it is and how it all happened coming up. In the road test segment, guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo will tell us all about the exciting Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. If a hybrid Corvette sounds just too weird to you, be assured that it isn't. This super-powerful supercar competitor is a steal at its $100K+ price, and we'll tell you why. Also in the road test segment, Host Jack Nerad evaluated the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz small pickup on one of his frequent trips to the Palm Springs area. While a small pickup might not seem like the best choice for travel with his youngest daughter and wonderful wife, the Santa Cruz turned out to be more like a sports sedan with a huge trunk than a truck. Its 281-horsepower turbomotor got the party started, but it wasn't the whole story. We'll have the details. Finally, you probably heard that the Toyota Prius was named North American Car of the Year, but you probably don't know the inside story of how and why it won. DeLorenzo and Nerad, both members of the jury, will tell you in this episode. All that and more are coming up on America on the Road. McLaren has just introduced the McLaren GTS, a replacement for the GT, and we have the details. The grand tourer marries supercar performance with everyday practicality. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine boasts 626 horsepower, 14 more than its predecessor, and it's lighter at 3,351 pounds. The result is what McLaren claims is a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 412 horsepower per ton. Clocking 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.9 seconds, it outpaces the well-regarded GT. Its structure, rooted in McLaren's carbon fiber monocoque chassis, enhances agility and stability. Crafted with recycled carbon fiber components, the GTS boasts a lower center of gravity and intelligent adaptive suspension. The exterior flaunts a more aggressive design, enriched by gloss black finishes and personalization choices like 'Lava Grey' paint and 'Turbine' forged alloy wheels exclusive to the GTS. Inside, upgrades feature softgrain Aniline leather seats. The McLaren GTS is now open for orders, with McLaren promising deliveries in 2024. At the same time, Lexus has introduced a far more approachable car. The 2024 RZ lineup is now headlined by the newly announced RZ 300e, offering a 266-mile range and starting at $56,300. The front-wheel-drive model employs a 72.8kWh battery to feed a drivetrain that generates 201 horsepower. Lexus says it will deliver an EPA-estimated MPGe of 137/112/125 (city/highway/combined). The new RZ model features a rear subframe replacing the electric drive axle of the RZ 450e. The all-wheel-drive RZ 450e utilizes the Lexus DIRECT4 system, balancing torque between its 150-kW front and 80-kW rear eAxle motors. Total system horsepower is 308, and the trim offers a 220-mile range. Also in the news this week, a new study shows that Tesla drivers are the most accident-prone. And the drivers of other brands come in for some criticism as well. You'll be surprised to learn which brand's drivers get the most DUIs, for example. We'll have details. In the road tests this week, Host Jack Nerad and guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo will discuss the 2024 Honda Accord and the 2024 Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. The Accord is a 2024 North American Car of the Year Finalists, and Nerad and DeLorenzo, two NACTOY jurors, discuss its merits in comparison to the other contenders — the Toyota Prius and the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Nerad and his family took a pre-holiday road trip in the Sequoia, which has been totally remade after the previous generation ran for more than a decade. How does it fare in comparison to the domestic stalwarts in the class, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition? We'll tell you in the road test segment. Also, in this episode, Nerad and DeLorenzo will discuss the most important news stories of 2023 and take a preview look at what might happen in the North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards, which will be presented in early January. In this special edition direct from the North American Car of the Year announcement at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Host Jack Nerad and frequent Guest Host Matty DeLorenzo take incisive looks at the vehicles that made it to the next round -- and those that didn't. Nerad is vice president of the North American Car of the Year jury. DeLorenzo has served on the jury for decades. Each year, the 50-member jury of renowned industry experts evaluates all the new-to-the-market vehicles to determine which three special vehicles deserve the title North American Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year, and North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. This year's competition is especially grueling because it pits battery-electrics against hybrids and conventionally powered vehicles. From full-size heavy-duty pickups to subcompact cars, the field is crammed with fascinating shapes and leading-edge tech. After weighing the positives and negatives of each vehicle in real-world driving, the NACTOY jurors cast their votes in a secret ballot audited by Deloitte. The three top vote-getters in each category are then named the Finalists for the prestigious awards. In this special report, DeLorenzo and Nerad will offer their opinions on each of the nine Finalists and share their thoughts on which could -- and perhaps should -- win in each category. And they'll also give their opinions on why some potential favorites in the field -- cars like the 2024 Ford Mustang and the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray -- didn't make the cut. The following is a complete list of the 2024 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility of the Year Finalists followed by a list of the semi-finalists that have been eliminated from the competition. See if you agree with the jury's results. 2024 North American Car of the Year Finalists Honda Accord Hyundai Ioniq 6 Toyota Prius/Prius Prime 2024 North American Truck of the Year Finalists Chevrolet Colorado Chevrolet Silverado EV Ford Super Duty 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Finalists Genesis Electrified GV70 Kia EV9 Volvo EX30 The Semi-Finalists Eliminated from the Competition BMW 5 Series BMW i5 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Ford Mustang Subaru Impreza Toyota Crown Toyota GR Corolla GMC Canyon Chevrolet Blazer EV Dodge Hornet Honda Pilot Hyundai Kona Mazda CX90 Toyota Grand Highlander

In this special direct from North American Car of the Year testing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Host Jack Nerad and frequent Guest Host Matt DeLorenzo discuss the many candidates for three of the most prestigious honors in autodom. Nerad is currently vice president of the North American Car of the Year jury. DeLorenzo has served on the jury for decades. Each year, the 50-member jury composed of renowned industry experts evaluates all the new-to-the-market vehicles to determine which deserve the title North American Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year, and North American Utility of the Year. As part of a rigorous test schedule, the jury convenes in Michigan near the Motor City of Detroit to drive and evaluate the contenders for the honors in each of the categories. The competition is stiff, and the potential for disagreements is many. With electrics, hybrids, and conventionally powered vehicles in each category, the jurors get a chance to weigh the positives and negatives in real-world driving. The car of the year field includes mainstream cars like the Honda Accord and exotic newcomers like the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. The truck field includes stalwarts like the Ford SuperDuty and new-tech wonders like the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The utility group includes conventional SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander, plus dedicated electric vehicles like the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. The following is a complete list of the 2024 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility of the Year semi-finalists that Jack Nerad and Matt DeLorenzo will discuss in this week's hour-long special on the competition. For the 40th anniversary of Violent Femmes' classic debut album, we take a detailed look at how it was made. After bassist Brian Ritchie and drummer Victor DeLorenzo first started playing around Milwaukee as a rhythm section, they met a teenage songwriter named Gordon Gano. Despite having limited experience and still just being in high school, Gano had an extraordinary set of good songs that he had already written. Violent Femmes began playing as a trio but weren't able to get many gigs in town so they started playing acoustically on the street. One day they decided to play for a line of people outside the Oriental Theater who were there to see the Pretenders. James Honeyman-Scott was on a break from soundcheck and became interested in this band playing outside the theater. He convinced the rest of the Pretenders to listen and Chrissie Hynde ended up inviting the Femmes to open for them that night. Though the impromptu gig didn't lead to other opportunities, it gave them a boost of confidence to continue doing what they were doing. Shake Records became interested in releasing an album so they booked studio time with producer Mark Van Hecke. The label deal fell through but they decided to keep the studio time with the help of a loan from DeLorenzo's father. The recordings they made ended up on Slash Records' radar and they eventually released the Violent Femmes debut album as is in 1983. In this episode, Gordon Gano reflects on being a bored and lonely teenager who had a drive to write songs as a way to get out frustration. Brian Ritchie describes his unconventional approach to the acoustic bass guitar that helps give Violent Femmes their signature sound. Victor DeLorenzo offers his perspective on using brushes, a snare drum and his invention called the trancephone in order to have a simple setup that could be moved easily and played on the street. From being booed by thousands of Milwaukeans to punk music played acoustically to embracing the improvisation of Sun Ra to the first album as a mixtape that continues to get passed between generations, we'll hear the stories of how the record came together.

The Acura Integra is back and in many ways better than ever. And we test the performance-oriented A-Spec version in this episode of “America on the Road.” The Integra was a mainstay of the Acura lineup from the day the brand was introduced in 1986 until the Integra was discontinued 20 years later. Now, as Acura turns its back on its alpha naming system, the Integra has returned as a five-door hatchback with driving enjoyment as its key calling card. In A-Spec form, the 2023 Acura Integra features its first-ever turbocharged engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, and the availability of a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capability. Of course, there is plenty of tech as well, like the 10.2-inch digital instrumentation display and the adaptive damper suspension system. And the Integra A-Spec looks the part with stainless steel pedals, red gauge needles and contrast stitching on the steering wheel, console, shift boot plus a leather-wrapped aluminum shift knob. In the news segment, we examine the contention that electric cars will be less trouble-prone and need less service than conventional gasoline cars. Many pundits have made that claim, but a new study from Consumer Reports says quite the opposite is true. We'll have our thoughts on all that coming up. Also in the news, is there a “Silent Majority” of top car company execs that believes that pursuing electric vehicles to the exclusion of conventional vehicles is a giant mistake? One prominent global executive certainly thinks so, and in this edition, we'll tell you who that is and why he believes it. Our guest host, EV expert Matt DeLorenzo, will weigh in on that as well. DeLorenzo is the author of the new book How To Buy an Affordable Electric Car: A Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership and a longtime industry observer. In a special segment this week, he and AOTR Host Jack Nerad will take a long look at the assertion by some climatologists that the accelerating move to electric vehicles is not the right solution to climate issues. In fact it could be a multi-trillion-dollar mistake. Nerad is the author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hybrid and Alternative Fuel Vehicles in addition to his latest novel, Dance in the Dark. In the road test segment, Matt DeLorenzo will detail his recent experiences in one of the biggest “sleeper values” on the sedan market today — the Volkswagen Arteon. The highly styled and well-equipped Arteon deserves more attention than it has received, and we'll tell you why.

The EV rush, like pretty much everything with the Energy Transition right now, is in demand yet the consistent knock against the cars themselves is the hefty price tag that's attached to so many of the new electric car models. Enter the Tightwad. In today's episode, we welcome the Author of ‘How to Buy an Affordable Electric Car : A Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership,' Matt Delorenzo. Now, Delorenzo is a self-described tightwad so frugalists can relax for a bit, but not only he is economically meticulous, he also happens to be one of the most prolific automotive scribes of his generation as he's written about cars for the last 45 years. Delorenzo noticed a huge gap in the amount of and accessibility to quality EV information, but more importantly, Delorenzo, who lives in EV-friendly California, also surmised there was no one covering where to find inexpensive electric cars - or asking the bigger question - Do they exist? And boy do they. Delorenzo takes prospective EV buyers - for a ride - to not only educate them on what inexpensive EVs exist, but shares the ins and outs of the EVs when it comes to range, options, city v. highway driving, the used car market and we talk Tax Credits of course. It's an EV Buying 101 course that breaks down the EV segment better than anyone. For more on the book please go here and for more on Matt, click here.

Interview with Victor DeLorenzo Of Violent Femmes & The Night Crickets DeLorenzo was born in 1954, the son of Victor and Charlotte DeLorenzo, grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, and has lived in Milwaukee since. He has been a drummer since the age of 16 while attending St. Catherine's High School (Racine, Wisconsin), and has been an actor since the age of five. While attending the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, he auditioned for and was accepted into Theatre X in 1976, and worked with them in various roles for more than 20 years.[ As a drummer, DeLorenzo paired up with bassist Brian Ritchie in 1980, as a rhythm section they called "Violent Femmes". When singer, guitarist, and songwriter Gordon Gano joined them in 1981, the band kept the name.[2] DeLorenzo's father loaned the band $10,000 to record their eponymous debut album in 1982. However, the band was forced to delay its release until 1983 after they signed to Slash Records. DeLorenzo's signature sound is a result of his minimalist drum kit. He often uses nothing more than a snare drum, a tranceaphone and steel brushes. The tranceaphone consists of a metal bushel basket inverted over a tom. He favors this style of kit because in their early days, the band often played on the streets. DeLorenzo continued to act with Theatre X, and record and tour with the Femmes until 1993, when he left to devote more time to acting and to recording his own music. He toured as part of Moe Tucker's band in that year. In 1996 he opened a recording studio called "Joe's Real Recording" He has released three solo records since 1990. In addition to recording his own music, he has played with several side projects, including Ash Can School. In 2000, he teamed up with Ritchie to put together a Femmes compilation, and subsequently rejoined the band until it disbanded again in 2009.In March 2013, Gano, Ritchie and DeLorenzo reformed Violent Femmes once more and played a homecoming show at the Summerfest music festival in their native Milwaukee. Three months later, in July, the band announced a new line-up with Dresden Dolls member Brian Viglione as the band's drummer. DeLorenzo confirmed in a statement that he had left the Femmes permanently because of a failure of the band members to resolve their long-standing business disputes. DeLorenzo performs percussion in the chamber rock duo Nineteen Thirteen with cellist Janet Schiff. Nineteen Thirteen's recording of "Hurricane Noel" was featured in the 2011 TED Global Conference. Night Crickets, a long-distance groove affair conducted during the drawn-out days of lockdown and beyond. Featuring David J, Victor DeLorenzo, and Darwin Meiners.   Iconic and foundational bands in the history of alternative music certainly include Bauhaus, Love And Rockets, and Violent Femmes. San Francisco born artist Darwin Meiners was a fan of all three. A chance meeting 13 years ago with David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets) grew into a friendship, and Darwin not only became a bandmate, but David J's manager. After reaching out to Victor DeLorenzo through e-mail, Darwin met the Violent Femmes drummer after the Femmes' Coachella set in 2013. Soon after the three collaborated on Darwin's 2014 release Souvenir. As the pandemic took hold, Darwin was looking for a new project to occupy the lock-down time and approached Victor, who was keen to proceed and suggested that David join as well. The musical trust established between these three was immediate and Night Crickets were born. Within weeks a global process was initiated between them, the recordings eventually forming the album, A Free Society. To say this is something of a dream come true for music fans would be entirely accurate. (The band's name came from one of many Zoom meetings between the three members. After addressing various pressing musical issues the conversation rambled somewhat and turned to the subject of David Lynch, with David J telling an anecdote which was told to him by Lynch's sound designer, John Neff. Lynch had asked Neff to obtain a field recording of crickets chirping at night for inclusion in Mulholland Drive. When Neff played him the tape, the director immediately recognized the sound that the insects make when it is light which is apparently a little different to their nocturnal chirp. “No! No! No! These are day crickets, John! I want my night crickets!” Victor, Darwin, and David then shared a look of mutual realization and instantly agreed that the project now had a name!) “America on the Road” hits the highway to the Midwest in this edition. Over the course of just a couple of days at the wheel of a new Mazda CX-9 Signature, our intrepid crew set down in Kansas City, Missouri. The goals were multi-fold: attend a Kansas City Royals baseball game at Kaufman Stadium, sample the legendary Z-Man sandwich at Joe's Kansas City Barbecue, tour KC's now-revived Union Station, and witness a country concert featuring Thomas Rhett, Conner Smith, and Parker McCollum. Almost too much good stuff for a 48-hour visit. The challenging itinerary included a drive from Kansas City to Columbia, Missouri, in time to see the concert held on the campus of the University of Missouri. On the face of it, that's not too hard. But we left KC after touring all the major sites in that city hoping to have enough leeway to get prime Midwest steaks at CC's Broiler in Columbia. Oh, and then we had to drive back the 120 miles to KC after the concert before getting some scant minutes of sleep. Just to increase the degree of difficulty, the state of Missouri decided to shut down all the northbound lanes of Interstate 70 between the two cities in the middle of that dark and rainy night. The good news is the Mazda CX-9, one of our favorite crossovers, took it all in stride. All four of our AOTR crew arrived at each destination fresh, relaxed, and ready to devour another mammoth meal. In addition to full road trip coverage, this week we have the details on the just-announced all-new Maserati GranTurismo, and it is one hot car. It comes with not one but instead two very innovative powertrains — a 550-hp twin-turbo gasoline engine and a 760-hp all-wheel-drive electric. The car keeps its classic proportions, but it is obvious that the very best of Italian design and technology has been brought to bear. In an era when so many cars are “international,” the Maserati Gran Turismo wears its Italian heritage on its sleeve. And speaking of Italian heritage, our guest co-host Matt DeLorenzo is also our special guest this week. He is the author of the just-published book How To Buy An Affordable Electric Car: A Tightwad's Guide to EV Ownership. Certainly, the heat has been growing under the EV movement lately, but is there more smoke than fire? DeLorenzo and host Jack Nerad will sort out the situation in the interview segment. Our guest isn't just a renowned auto expert, but he has also walked the walk by buying his own affordable electric car. And he will detail what the future for battery-electric vehicles will hold. All that and a look at auto sales coming up in this episode of “America on the Road.”

The theology of the Eucharist in St. Thomas Aquinas may seem complex, but that complexity is conformed to the tremendous mystery of Christ's gift of himself in the sacrament. There is growth ahead for us not primarily in understanding the Eucharist as if we could ever achieve something like conceptual mastery, but especially in growing in love for and devotion to the Son of God who acts in love for us. If we can allow St. Thomas to help us raise our minds to the wonders of Christ's Eucharistic gift, perhaps we can then better raise our hearts into union with him. Our guide to helping us learn from St. Thomas's theology of the Eucharist is Dr. Michael Hahn, assistant professor of Sacred Scripture at Mount St. Mary's Seminary. Our conversation today follows from a lecture Dr. Hahn gave at the annual Academy of Catholic Theology conference, where he spoke on the sacraments and sanctification in the theology of Thomas Aquinas.

“Black Leather On The Inside” Victor DeLorenzo rose to global prominence as the drummer for the Violent Femmes—but he did really cool stuff before that and really cool stuff after. An actor since the age of five, after college DeLorenzo was a member of Theatre X, a pretty punk rock and way ahead of its time improv theatre group, who performed all over the world. He formed the Violent Femmes with Brian Ritchie in 1980 and although the group toured and recorded pretty exhaustively, DeLorenzo still stayed involved with Theater X. A minimalist drummer who comes armed with a spare kit and steel brushes, DeLorenzo is one of the most innovative players in modern music. His rhythms roll and swing with precision and finesse and his flourishes are infectious, powerful and stirring. After parting ways with the Femmes, DeLorenzo toured with the Velvet Underground's Moe Tucker, put out a handful of marvelous solo albums, opened a recording studio, and formed a chamber rock duo called Nineteen Thirteen with cellist Janet Schiff. But that's not all. DeLorenzo writes the Showoff column for Milwaukee.com, co-hosts the Frail Pagans radio show on WSUM with Mr. G and his new project is the Night Crickets with David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. Their debut A Free Society is filled with dark, percussive beauty and lyrical invention and t's buoyed by sneaky rhythms and brilliant melodic touches. www.victordelorenzo.weebly.com www.facebook.com/DougSeymourPhotography @dougseymourphoto www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
