Kevin Ross is an American Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer who's also competed in professional boxing, shootboxing, MMA, San Shou, and held the title of Bellator's kickboxing featherweight world champion. He's the former Inaugural Bellator Kickboxing Featherweight (145 pounds) world champion, WMC super lightweight (140 pounds) intercontinental champion, Super lightweight (140 pounds) WBC International championship Title, the Welterweight (147 pounds) WBC USA National championship Title, the FIDAM Welterweight (147) championship of Mexico and the United States Muay Thai Federation super lightweight (140 pounds) champion.I first heard Kevin speak when he was on Joe Rogan's podcast. I don't generally click on the episodes that feature fighters assuming they'll be speaking about subjects I wouldn't really relate to. But for some reason, on this day, I clicked on Kevin's episode and was immediately struck by the depth and topics they were discussing when it came to choosing a life path. Kevin described his struggle with alcoholism at a young age and lacking direction in life. Not knowing what he wanted to do, or if anything at all, but knowing he didn't want to follow what he called “ the conveyor belt” most people get stuck on—the structure of society and the expectations that a lot of people unconsciously end up following. He expressed the exact frustrations I've felt and the motivator behind putting together a podcast called "Breaking the Mold." Here are some of the highlights from our episode: The realities and inconsistency in a fighting careerBreaking the boxes that society encourages us to go in, other avenues to success, and letting go of timelines. Depression and lacking clear direction: we discuss how success stories don't highlight the dark times people can go through when they're trying to figure things out Fear and resistance to the things you want mostThe story of losing his first fight and the mentality and decision that came out of that I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed having this conversation. Chris Romulo is a retired Muay Thai champion, author, and coach who speaks at schools and corporations about the importance of getting back up when life puts you down. Through his C.H.A.M.P.S. System, Chris will ignite in your audience the drive to succeed. Chris grew up in a broken home in Queens, NY watching his absentee father waste his life on a gambling addiction. Since a young boy, Chris knew he wanted more but the streets of Queens kept pulling him down. It wasn't until a near-death street fight that Chris re-evaluated his life and then joined a Muay Thai gym, spending the next 20 years training, fighting, and coaching others. He fought in New York City, Las Vegas, represented America in Bangkok, and eventually went on to become the first ever North American Super Middleweight champion. During his fight career Chris developed methods, both mental and physical, to help him overcome the challenges of the ring. In 2012, when Hurricane Sandy demolished his business and home, those methods were once again put to the test as Chris had to stand back up from the biggest knock down of his life. After getting his life and business back in order, he decided to share with others his C.H.A.M.P.S. System so that others could uncover the champions within them. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/buckthesystemlive/support

Matt truly lives and breathes the sport of Muay Thai so we decided to speak with him about the current state of Muay Thai in Thailand, his perspective on the growth and current direction of American Muay Thai, the growth of promotions like One Championship and Max Muay Thai...and much more! Matt jumped on the podcast as a replacement for a guest that had to reschedule and we ended up having a great episode. Matt is still disappointed by Eric's perpetual lack of commitment and Eric still thinks Matt is a pain in the ass...but what are friends for? Enjoy!

In this episode of the podcast, Eric & Vinny speak with USMF President Michael "Chase" Corley and Muaythai Youth Academy co-creator Patrick Rivera. Both of these gentlemen have played a major role in growing Muay Thai in the United States as well as pushing Muay Thai towards getting recognized by the USOC (United State Olympic Committee). Michael and Patrick both feel that the future of American Muaythai lies in establishing a template and/or path for our youth Muay Thai athletes to get prepared, from an early age, for both national and international competition. In this episode, we discuss the importance of the USMF's Youth Development League, the upcoming Muaythai Youth Academy workshop at Patrick's Valor Training Center in Stockton, California, and we also discuss the phenomena performance by 4 of America's young female Muaythai athletes at a recent event in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Listen, learn, and believe, as the path to exponential growth of American Muay Thai is explained here on this podcast!
In this episode of The Striking Corner podcast, Eric and Vinny speak with head coach and owner of Valor Training Center in Stockton, California, Patrick Rivera. Patrick is also currently the co-director of the Youth Development League (YDL), which is the USMF's Youth Program designed to get America's youth Muay Thai fighters prepared for IFMA style competitions and world championships. Patrick has had incredible success with his youth program at Valor Training Center and also has youth fighters that have gone on to win medals at both IFMA Youth Muay Thai Championships (2016 & 2017). Patrick discusses why youth development is imperative to the growth of American Muay Thai, what the YDL's mission is to grow the youth Muay Thai scene in the United States, and we also discuss different ways of teaching Muay Thai to kids that will get them ready for IFMA and other fight competitions. We could have gone on for quite sometime with this podcast as Patrick has a wealth of knowledge and great ideas when it comes to the future of Muay Thai. There was so much more we could have talked about so we will definitely have Patrick on in the future. After all, he and Eric share the same last name, so you know Eric was excited about that, because well, he gets excited about everything! Enjoy this episode and share it you maniacs!
The hottest topic in the American Muay Thai scene at the moment is Muay Thai on the world stage. Muay Thai debuts at the World Games in Poland in July and the USMF is changing the game in order to curate the best fighters from the USA to compete against international opponents and place American Muay Thai among the best in the world rankings. This month’s guests include two fighters who have represented the USA at the IFMA world championships the last two years in a row. Pro fighter Asa Tenpow (Florida Kickboxing Academy - West Palm Beach, FL) and amateur fighter Janet Todd (Boxing Works - Torrence, CA). I talked with both fighters about their recent trip to the IFMA world’s in Belarus, Minsk; their opinions of the state of Muay Thai in America and the level of competition taking place at international competitions. They both shared a huge amount of their experiences from abroad and here at home; as well as where they think American Muay Thai needs help and where we’re excelling as we adopt the sport and continue developing our brand of American Muay Thai. Janet Todd brought home a bronze medal from the world’s this year and immediately followed that up by winning her division at the Defiant WBC Muay Thai Tournament in Tacoma, Washington (May 27-29). Janet recaps that tournament for us, which is a timely continuation of our initial coverage of that tourney with it’s creator and organizer Daniel Gutierrez of Defiant Promotions (Los Angeles, CA). It’s an incredible time for Muay Thai in the USA and we’re honored to take part in this pivotal period in American Muay Thai history!
