Unlock the mysteries of artistic mastery with us, as we celebrate the remarkable Hedda Stern, who brought a revolution to the New York Art School and abstract expressionism. This episode is a treasure chest of insights, drawing from the profound connections between Stern's innovative use of commercial spray paint and her influence on art's major movements. Ty and Nathan bring to light the intertwining of technique, vision, and integrity in creating impactful art, reflecting on the patience and courage necessary to make lasting marks on the canvas of history, and how these virtues are essential to the artist's journey.Embark on a philosophical voyage as they explore the essence of mastery in art, looking through the lens of Michelangelo's work ethic and the role of technique as the bridge between vision and expression. Hear the artists dissect the character-building power of artistic practice and how it enriches our understanding of humanity. They also navigate the choppy waters of integrity in art, contemplating the courage required to commit to growth and truth rather than settling for superficial aesthetics. Through their engaging discourse, Ty and Nathan affirm the importance of continuous evolution in honing one's artistic vision while also discussing quotes from Helen Frankenthaler, Julia Child, Oscar Wilde, Maya Angelou and Picasso. Send us a message - we would love to hear from you!Make sure to follow us on Instagram here:@justmakeartpodcast @tynathanclark @nathanterborg

This week on Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora has the pleasure of sitting down with Ali Hval who was the Emerging Woman Artist Award Winner 2023 edition. Ali is a visual artist in Iowa who deals with fabric, installation, ceramic, and painting. Her interest in adornment and the politicization of the body is reflected through the forms and materials she uses in her artworks. In this week's episode, Ali talks about how she became an artist, what inspires her art, and how she was able to navigate her career. From painting as a young girl to going to grad school to finally starting her own art career, Ali always had a rebellious nature where she looked at the world in a different light. In many ways, her art challenges the traditional feminine and masculine dichotomy. With her pom-poms, glitters, chains, and locks, she is combining different elements and is redefining the spectrum that aims to put people in boxes.   Just like other artists, balancing creativity and art has been a struggle for Ali. Being an avid muralist, Ali has completed over 40 projects in various communities across the country, projects that have provided her the financial stability she needs. However, combining her style with her murals has been a challenge for her, something she is still figuring out. Ali also touches on the subject of being the winner of the ATH emerging artist award, and how she feels about the entire process. She links it with her disappointments and rejections in the past, and how everything in her life has led her to this moment, for which she is truly grateful. To find out more about Ali and how she found her niche and dealt with challenges as an artist, tune in to this week's ATH podcast. We hear over and over in the news about issues surrounding the estates of artists and how family members or caretakers are having control over the artwork and sales. There are lawsuits, family discord, issues with heirs mismanaging the remaining collection of artworks and stories of others involved in the artist's careers or at the end of their lives taking advantage of the artist's success. Joining me today is Kelly Juhasz, principal of Fine Art Appraisal and Services, to talk about how artists can better plan for their own legacy to ensure that their reputations and remaining artworks are handled properly and reduce the opportunity for mismanagement. In this episode Kelly will answer questions such as: What is artist legacy planning? Why should artist's care about what happens to their work after they pass? What can living artists do to start to prepare for their own legacy? Learn more about Kelly Juhasz and her services here: www.fineartappraisalandservices.com

I'm yet to meet someone as passionate about classical music as Sid. I loved the relation between what he does and what I do with touch - we're both immensely passionate about what we do, yet it's not a mainstream thing. Trying to pursue it as a passion isn't easy - and learning how Sid as done well so far was inspiring and fun for me too. Super funny and chill guy, passionate and a great listen/chat to be apart of. Baumann's plein air paintings include amazing effects of light, shadow, color, and the natural beauty that he sees in American wilderness landscapes, wildlife, and the architectural styles of older houses and barns. Through his work, viewers enjoy the opportunity to see spectacular places in America that are too remote and inaccessible for most to visit themselves. Baumann’s painting style has been classified by art collectors and galleries as “Romantic Realism with Luminicsm.” Pioneers of this beautiful genre of landscape painting include Frederic Church, Thomas Cole, and Albert Bierstadt of the Hudson River School. They were East Coast artists who journeyed to the Western United States to sketch and paint amazing views of the American wilderness, and then they returned to their home studios to paint stunning detailed versions of these vistas on room-sized canvases. In this Podcast, Stefan Baumann talks with his students about painting from your Imagination verses painting from a photograph. When painting from a photograph the artist is limmited by what is on it rarley adding anything to it that would depict the human emagination. We as humans love a story to bring us out of our every day life. Like children the more we put into it, or what I like to call it "PMI" the more we love the story. Painting from your Imagination brings the viewer to a different level of seeing, one that is from the heart and not from the eye.Stefan Baumann Artist of The Grand View PBS Television series discusses the importance of sharing your work with the public. The B&E Podcast #137 “The Mess & The Math of Being An Artist" Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: This is where artistry meets industry folks.  The mess and the math of it all.  We talk about finding balance in so many ways.  Whether that's in the creative part itself to keeping an authentic voice while being aware of external demands.  Ultimately we learn about how to be freer as artists. POINT #1: "WHAT YOU DO AND WHAT YOU DON'T" - A lot of what makes up for the small nuances in artistic work are the things we show and the things we withhold.  It's not always about giving too much direction and it's not about leaving things completely up in the air.  Often this push and pull are where we find the real artistry. POINT #2: “FINDING THE SWEET SPOT" - There's a beautiful space where we create something that is meaningful to us, full of our authentic voice, and yet remains accessible to a large audience to hear your message.  Going too far one way or the other can breed some interesting results and be valuable, but pose their own risks. POINT #3: “BACK TO OUR ROOTS" - Coming back to where it all began and what brought us to doing what we do in the first place can be the gut-check we need when or if we become lost or disillusioned with a situation we're in.
