We searched around Systembolaget and found a couple of beers that peeked our interest. Martin found a Belgian IPA from Brouwerij-Kerkon. Hop Verdomme is a 7% ABV featuring 7 Flemish hops, which if 7 more than we were aware of. Stefan found an Irish dry stout from Sullivan's brewing. Black Marble comes in at 5.1% and give Guiness a run for it's money. It's a deeply roasted stout that really hits the spot. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #irishstout #dryirishstout #stout #ipa #belgianipa
Learn how Twisted Hippo recovered from a devastating fire and found a way to thrive while brewing their unique beers. Karl and Marilee Rutherford, co-founders and owners of Twisted Hippo, share the story of their humble beginnings from a homebrewing beer kit from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, to opening a brewery. They explain how they recovered from a devastating fire in 2022, after which the Chicago craft brewery community rallied around them to help them get back on their feet, and the innovative way they found a way to maintain a physical presence at District Brew Yards. After the beer break, Karl and Marilee delve into the brewing techniques and flavor profiles of their honey-infused cream ale and award-winning Golden Lasso beer and talk about honey as an adjunct in beer. They also discuss the importance of embracing individuality in brewing and the significance of water chemistry in beer production. Plus: a whimsical look at their mascot, Pinky, and insights into balancing innovation with financial sustainability. Sakamichi Brewing is located in Tachikawa, Tokyo. Each episode Daniel and Matthew (and sometimes guests) pick a beer or two from the menu and talk about it a bit. This week we drank some Marina - a Belgian IPA from Kyoto Brewing which blends Belgian yeast with modern hops. Choosing the right yeast is one of the key decisions in designing any beer, so we also discussed a few of the criteria that go in to that choice. The ale keeps coming... We can't stop, we simply will not stop; these episodes are coming thick and fast. This month the lovely folks over at Haacht Brewery were kind enough to send us a box of beers to sample; and sample them we did. There's the usual mix of Ben chatting nonsense about Liverpool and sneezing into the microphone for no good reason and Dan pretending he's cultured by mentioning the countries he's visited. Oh Joy! We get try two new breweries this week. Tartaruga Fine Brewing is from Belgium. Usually when we review a Beligan beer it's a lambic or a gueuze. This week we have a Belgian IPA. Sweet Alma hits like a Belgian IPA. If you've never had one before, it hits a little different from any other IPA style. 71 Brewing Co is out of Scotland Blueberry Fields is a kettle sour using Scottish Blueberries. It's a light refreshing beer that would be perfectly fine for a grill out in the park.

It's that time of the year when everyone thrusts their favourite games down your throat. We're no different except it's accompanied by several beers to ease it down. Lucy, Ben and Aadil start off with a few honourable mentions then launch into their top ten games. We've no rules here as you know, so these are games we've enjoyed this year even if they didn't release in 2018. For those all important beverages Ben and Lucy are drinking The Trilogy MMXVIII from Northern Monk and friends. These beers are brewed to showcase Malts, Yeast and Hops and are Malt - A Brut IPA with Whiplash, Yeast - A Sour IPA with Verdant and Hops - A Triple IPA with Garage. Aadil has three beers that he's tried to match alongside Ben and Lucy. He has to start 'Side Control' IPL from Marble. Follows with a sour pilsner from Cloudwater and Stillwater Artisanal called 'Tangible Object' and finishes on 'Zenne-Like' a Belgian IPA from Magic Rock and Brasserie De La Senne. After today's epic we're having next week off but will be back in the first week of the new year. Have an awesome few weeks.

In the very first LIVE episode of Brew Daddies, Adam and Richard visit Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland. The 28th largest craft brewer in the USA, Flying Dog has been innovating the craft beer industry for more than 20 years. Their brewery and taproom offer incomparable hospitality to beer lovers from around the world. The Brew Daddies speak with pilot brewer Todd Kelly about Flying Dog's extremely experimental styles, including pioneering the Belgian IPA. They hear from sales forecaster Kyle Chittum about some of the 48 beers Flying Dog will be releasing in 2018 and their worldwide distribution. Special thanks to John Tuchowski at Flying Dog and Ellen, Karen, and Patti (the Brew Mommas) for making this live episode possible.
The latest Style Roulette episode talks about Belgian IPAs, a hybrid between classic Belgian golden ales and hop-forward American IPAs. Clarification: 21C is not actually a style in the official BJCP guidelines, although it does list various different IPA styles unnumbered after 21B (Specialty IPA). The app we were using lined up 21C with the first of these Specialty IPAs, which was Belgian IPA. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
