The longest day of the year isn't just a calendar moment, it's a biological lesson about what “lasting light” really means: systems store what helps them survive, then use it later when things get darker. We take that solstice idea and bring it straight into brain science with “Lasting Light,” our restorative audio drop built around neuroplasticity and cognitive resilience during Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. We talk honestly about why memory loss cuts so deep, for the person forgetting and for the people who love them. Then we dig into three research threads that explain how sound therapy can become biology. First, 40 Hz gamma entrainment and the emerging work on GENUS, including the landmark MIT findings and early human signals suggesting 40 Hz audio-visual stimulation may help protect key brain regions. Second, the body-side pathways: vagus nerve tone, heart rate variability (HRV), and nitric oxide, including studies on singing bowls, vibration, and even simple humming that may improve circulation and parasympathetic regulation. Third, brainwave entrainment as a field: binaural beats, monaural beats, and isochronic tones, what the meta-analyses actually support, and where the claims get ahead of the evidence. We also explain how we translate that into design choices you can feel: gamma-range structure for cognition, lower-frequency foundations for calming the nervous system, speaker-friendly isochronic delivery, and intentional silence for integration. If you're a caregiver, we share how to use the audio in the room without requiring comprehension. If you're listening for yourself, we leave you with the simplest takeaway: the brain you have is still learning. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs steadier hope, and leave a review with the one sound practice you want us to test next.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link! For 146 years, pope after pope warns Catholics about a secret society and almost nobody listens. So Leo XIII does something different: he frames the whole problem as a war between two cities, the City of God and the City of Man, and then names the modern structure he thinks finally gives the “city of man” real organization. That document is Humanum Genus, and we dig into what Leo actually argues, why he goes theological instead of just issuing another ban, and how his critique of naturalism and religious indifferentism maps onto the modern secular state. We also slow down and do the unglamorous work: what is real history in Freemasonry's development from medieval guilds to Enlightenment-era speculative lodges, and what is just romantic myth. We talk higher-degree esoteric influences, why the “all religions are equal” claim is not neutral, and why Leo ties these ideas to education, public life, and the replacement of Christian civilization with a functionally atheist public order.Joshua Charles joins us to connect Humanum Genus to Monsignor George Dillon's The War of Antichrist with the Church and Christian Civilization, a book Leo XIII endorsed and helped circulate. We unpack Charles's “sola natura” summary, the Catholic claim that grace perfects nature, and why a society trained to violate conscience becomes easier to steer. Then, because we're us, the conversation spills into current events, media narratives, and a late-show pivot through the Carmelo Anthony verdict and JD Vance explaining his conversion to Catholicism.Subscribe for the rest of the encyclical series, share this with a friend who thinks “religion is private,” and leave a review if you want more deep dives like this. Genie-us Making: Conducting Consciousness for Our Emerging Genus of Humanity What if the ancient stories of genies were never really about magic lamps and granting wishes? What if they were symbolic invitations to awaken something within us? In this episode of Kaleidoscope for Be~coming, Celeste Emelia Mattingly explores the surprising intersection of mythology, psychology, consciousness studies, synchronicity, and human potential. Through the remarkable story of a mysterious genie pendant, listeners are invited into a deeper exploration of meaning, intention, imagination, and the possibility that consciousness may participate in shaping our experience of reality. Drawing upon the work of Carl Jung, James Hillman, Dean Radin, and William Tiller, Celeste introduces the concept of Conducting Consciousness—a practical and inspiring framework for engaging life with greater awareness, creativity, and purpose. Join us as we explore: The hidden wisdom within genie mythologySynchronicity, symbols, and meaningful coincidenceWhy attention, intention, and imagination matterThe difference between wishing and participatingHow genius may be emerging through the human genus itself The ancient dream of the genie may have been pointing toward something far greater than wish fulfillment. It may have been pointing toward us.

This special Tick Boot Camp Podcast crossover features the full International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) webinar recording, “At the Frontlines of Chronic Illness: Conversations with ILADS Experts.” In this dynamic panel discussion, leading clinicians and specialists unpack why Lyme disease and other infection-associated chronic illnesses are so misunderstood, why testing fails so many patients, and what it really takes to heal—brain, immune system, mitochondria, and terrain included. Moderated by Rich Johannesen (Tick Boot Camp), the panel delivers practical insights and hopeful, patient-centered guidance for anyone navigating complex chronic illness—whether you're a patient, caregiver, clinician, or advocate. Featured Panelists Chris Winfrey, MD — Psychiatrist; Medical Director, New Image Wellness Nicole Bell — “The Lyme Disease Engineer”; CEO, Galaxy Diagnostics Tania Dempsey, MD — Medical Director, AIM Center for Personalized Medicine Melanie Stein, ND — Naturopathic Doctor; Author focused on cellular wellness and healing terrain Host/Moderator: Rich Johannesen (Tick Boot Camp) ILADS Intro: Ali Moresco (ILADS) Episode Highlights ILADS Mission and Why This Webinar Matters The webinar opens with ILADS' mission: improving diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and associated illnesses through research, education, and policy. ILADS emphasizes physician training and patient-centered care, while also supporting the educational mission of ILADEF. Rich frames the night as a rare opportunity to hear from experts working at the front lines of complex chronic illness—especially for patients who've been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told their symptoms “don't make sense.” Segment 1: Brain Health, Neuroimmune Illness, and Why Lyme “Feels Like Dementia” Chris Winfrey, MD Dr. Winfrey introduces a core theme: Lyme is not only an infection—it often behaves like a neuroimmune illness. Key takeaways: The brain is a high-energy, high-immune-demand organ, uniquely vulnerable to infection-driven inflammation and toxicity. Lyme can disrupt brain function through: Blood flow issues Synaptic dysfunction Myelin damage Network-level disruption, not just “neurotransmitters” He describes brain function through networks that Lyme can destabilize: Default Mode Network (internal reflection) Salience Network (switching between networks) Central Executive Network (planning/organization) Action Network (execution) Autonomic Network (regulation) Limbic Network (threat/fear response) The result: patients often describe “brain shutdown,” confusion, cognitive impairment, and even dementia-like symptoms. A major reframing: Emotions are not “non-physical.” They are measurable physiological states. Lyme-driven nervous system injury can create emotional disturbance because the biology is disturbed. Segment 2: Poly-microbial Infection, Fight-or-Flight, and the Belief-Healing Loop Winfrey + Rich Discussion Rich frames humans as spiritual, emotional, and physical beings, and asks how chronic infection impacts both body and emotional resilience. Key points: Lyme can cross the blood-brain barrier and affect virtually any organ system. The nervous system becomes a “central battleground,” and measurement is hard because nervous system dysfunction isn't captured well by simple bloodwork. Rich and Dr. Winfrey explore how illness disrupts perception, decision-making, and our ability to interpret the world—especially when gut function and intuition feel “offline.” The healing paradox: Chronic stress and “fighting your way to healing” can backfire. Dr. Winfrey emphasizes that healing requires a parasympathetic state—rest, digest, repair—and that this often involves acceptance, surrender, trust, and safety. Segment 3: The State of Testing—Why So Many Patients Test Negative Nicole Bell (Galaxy Diagnostics) Nicole shares her personal motivation and professional mission: testing determines treatment, reimbursement, and belief—and too many patients are failed by existing tools. Indirect testing (antibody testing): The standard approach relies on antibodies—meaning it depends on the immune system behaving predictably. But Lyme and other stealth pathogens evade and suppress immune responses. Even in controlled research models, two infected subjects can show completely different antibody patterns. Immunosuppression (illness severity, medications like steroids, immune dysregulation) can reduce antibody reliability. Direct testing (pathogen detection):Nicole contrasts Lyme testing with illnesses like COVID—where you use tests that look for the pathogen itself (PCR/antigen), not just antibodies. Why direct detection is hard in Lyme: Pathogens can be low abundance They can be tissue-sequestered Sampling matters Why urine can matter for Lyme: Lyme may not stay in blood, but it can shed proteins/antigens that filter into urine. Galaxy's approach includes methods to capture, concentrate, and detect those markers. New diagnostics focus: Genus-level screening for the “3Bs” (Borrelia, Bartonella, Babesia) Reducing guessing when symptoms overlap and co-infections “masquerade” as each other Segment 4: Immune Dysfunction, Mast Cells, and Why Antibody Testing Can Go Haywire Tania Dempsey, MD (AIM Center for Personalized Medicine) Dr. Dempsey explains the immune system through two major branches: Innate immune system (fast, primitive defense) Adaptive immune system (antibodies, longer-term response) Mast cells as first responders: Mast cells detect “danger” and release inflammatory mediators (histamine and many others). In chronic infection, mast cells can remain persistently activated, releasing hundreds of inflammatory compounds. Why antibody tests fail (two patterns): Immune suppression → insufficient antibody production → false negatives Immune chaos → excessive, inappropriate antibody production → confusing positives - Positive Lyme bands “everywhere” - Positive autoantibodies without classic autoimmune disease patterns - “Everything looks positive” because signaling is dysfunctional Her central philosophy:It's not only about killing the bug. It's about fixing immune regulation so the body can actually clear or control infection. She also names the broader context: modern toxic load (mold, plastics, pesticides, “forever chemicals”) primes the immune system into dysregulation before infections even arrive. Segment 5: Advanced Immune-Modulating Tools Therapeutic Plasma Exchange + SOT Dr. Dempsey discusses therapies she's excited about, especially for complex, stuck cases: Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE / plasmapheresis): Removes plasma (where antibodies, inflammatory mediators, and “garbage” accumulate) Replaces with albumin (and sometimes IVIG) Concept: reduce inflammatory burden + toxic load to reset the terrain SOT (Supportive Oligonucleotide Technique): Molecular targeted approach designed to reduce replication of specific pathogens More targeted than “wide-net” antimicrobial approaches Used strategically after lowering inflammatory/toxic burden She emphasizes: not for everyone, not a universal cure—but promising enough to merit formal publication. Segment 6: GLP-1 Agonists and Mast Cell Stabilization “Brain-melt” moment, revisited Dr. Dempsey explains why drugs commonly known for diabetes/weight loss may have immune benefits: Mast cells have receptors for GLP and GIP hormones Patients showed improvements beyond weight: cognitive function, inflammation, immune stability She describes: Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) Emerging triple agonists (GLP-1/GIP/glucagon pathways) Her clinical approach has moved these agents earlier in care plans for immune stabilization in select cases. Segment 7: Cellular Healing, Mitochondria, and the Terrain Melanie Stein, ND Dr. Stein brings it home: healing often stalls when we focus only on killing pathogens, but don't repair the cellular damage. Core concepts: Lyme damages cell membranes, disrupting what goes in/out and how cells communicate. It contributes to mitochondrial dysfunction, reducing ATP (energy currency). If cells stay in “alarm mode,” healing remains blocked. Cell membrane therapy and terrain support: IV and oral lipid support (phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, omega fatty acids) Personalized support based on lipidomic patterns Supportive therapies to reduce oxidative stress and “toxic fats” Focus on signaling safety to the body—so repair can resume Cell Danger Response:A key theme: even after infections reduce, the body may remain stuck in a persistent defense state, requiring cellular and nervous system support to exit “danger mode.” Regulation Before Eradication Panel Reflection Round As the panel closes, several themes converge: Limbic system + autonomic nervous system regulation is foundational “Regulation becomes before eradication” Healing requires safety, predictability, and nervous system calm Chronic illness can block our ability to connect—especially in relationships—because survival physiology dominates Dr. Dempsey adds that limbic retraining / nervous system reset is often the first step she starts with in her practice. Question and Answer Highlights Lyme and Cancer? The panel notes emerging signals connecting tick-borne illness and certain cancers, but emphasizes that more research is needed to determine causality. Herniated discs, connective tissue, and chronic infection The discussion highlights potential links through: connective tissue disruption collagen damage mast cell mediators (enzymes that affect tissue integrity) infection-driven inflammation Cross-reactive antibody results (example: Brucella) The group explains how antibody testing can produce confusing results due to immune dysregulation and cross-reactivity—another reason why interpretation and test methodology matter. Nasal testing / sinus terrain While not a mainstream Lyme diagnostic route, the panel references nasal/sinus colonization (especially with mold-related or chronic inflammatory patterns) as a terrain factor that can influence recovery. Resources Mentioned Center for Lyme Action – State of Lyme Disease Research paper (Nicole Bell collaboration) ILADS Provider Search International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation (ILADEF) Donations (supports education and clinician training) Final Message to Listeners This episode is a reminder that Lyme disease and infection-associated chronic illness are not one-dimensional problems. The path forward often requires: better diagnostics immune regulation nervous system support cellular repair personalized care and hope that the body can recover when the right puzzle pieces come together

Grumble Goat

Humankind loves systems and order. We obsessively name and categorize everything in nature. We divided all of the branches of life into Species and Genus and Kingdoms. We plotted every element in the universe into a table of contents. We put the square block in the square hole. And in our kitchens, we stack the plates with the plates and the bowls with the bowls. Forks go on other forks and spoon nestle with other spoons. But there is one cupboard that is given to entropy. Chaos reins on the coffee cup shelf. There is no organization or stacking when no cup matches another in any dimension. Ponder this dilemma over a cup of coffee with Mat and Veronique as we confront our addictions, not to caffeine, but to the uncontrollable hoarding of coffee Mugs! *Grumbles are specifically off-the-cuff, no research went into this grumble. _____________________________________ Support the show and become a Grumble Kid! Dr. Isaac Golden returns to share insights from his latest book Safe Immunization, Homeoprophylaxis and Vaccination: A 21st Century Solution. We talked about the rise of chronic illness in children, the hidden effects of vaccines that many parents don't recognize, and why he believes homeoprophylaxis offers a safe and effective alternative. Dr. Golden explained how studies support its use, the importance of parents making informed decisions without pressure, and how homeopathy has been applied in places like India during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also discussed his work with families seeking detox options for their children and how perceptions of health can often mask underlying issues. Episode Highlights: 05:06 - Reasons for writing new book on safe immunization 12:02 - Evidence for effectiveness of homeoprophylaxis 15:48 - Comparing chronic disease rates in vaccinated vs unvaccinated 20:24 - Relevance and timeliness of the new book 24:57 - Use of homeoprophylaxis in India during COV!D-19 29:37 - Genus epidemicus and homeoprophylaxis approaches 35:25 - Effectiveness of homeoprophylaxis remedies 38:52 - Criticism of "no jab, no pay" policies  41:44 - Dr. Golden's continued passion and vitality 44:55 - Detoxing apparently healthy children from vaccines 47:01 - Importance of rethinking health standards 54:06 - Overcoming skepticism about homeopathic immunization About my Guests: Dr. Isaac Golden, Ph.D., D.Hom., N.D., B.Ec.(Hon), has been a practicing homeopath since 1984 and is internationally recognized as a leading authority on homeoprophylaxis—the use of homeopathic medicines for disease prevention. After an early career in economics and taxation, he transitioned into natural medicine, where he has dedicated over four decades to clinical practice, research, and education. Dr. Golden served as President of the Victorian branch of the Australian Homoeopathic Association from 1992 to 1998, and in 1999 he was awarded the Association's Distinguished Service Award for his significant contributions to the profession in Australia. He has also been instrumental in homeopathic education, founding the Australasian College of Hahnemannian Homoeopathy and later the Homoeopathy International Online College, expanding access to quality training worldwide. A prolific author, Dr. Golden has written some of the most influential texts on homeopathy and homeoprophylaxis, including Vaccination & Homoeoprophylaxis? A Review of Risks and Alternatives, The Complete Practitioner's Manual of Homœoprophylaxis, and Vaccine Injured Children: A 21st Century Tragedy. His groundbreaking Ph.D. research at Swinburne University in 2004 was the first time a mainstream Australian university accepted a thesis on homeoprophylaxis, marking a historic step for the field. In his clinical practice, Dr. Golden specializes in chronic disease and the treatment of vaccine-injured children, particularly those on the autism spectrum. Currently, he continues his work as Deputy Chair and Research Advisor to the National Institute of Integrative Medicine's Ethics Committee, advancing integrative approaches to health and disease prevention. Did you do any type of gut training while also using Vespa?     She also posted some questions about Vespa on the I AM TriDot Facebook page:   For those of you using Vespa, I have some questions as I'm considering trying it. Are you eating a lower carb diet most days? How do you fuel your longer rides/runs now? How has your race nutrition changed? Is gut training still beneficial? Do you still carb load before a longer race?   Get Gritty Tip: Touch Your Dreams Every triathlete has a dream. It could be crossing the finish line of your first race, qualifying for a championship, or becoming a stronger version of yourself. But what sets great athletes apart is having a clear vision of that dream and working relentlessly to make it a reality. As Coach Ed Mylett says, "It takes leaders with vision to help people with dreams." You are the leader of your own journey, and your vision can guide you through every training session, every race, and every obstacle. Vision is the fuel that drives consistent action. It's easy to get caught up in the grind of training—times, distances, paces—but the real power lies in seeing beyond the day-to-day. When you have a vision, you're not just training for the next workout; you're training for your dream. That vision will push you through the tough days when you feel tired, frustrated, or uncertain. It reminds you that you are not just chasing times or placing in races—you are building the athlete you dream to be. What's your vision for your triathlon journey? Are you clear on your dream, or are you still figuring it out? Take time to reconnect with that vision—whether it's personal growth, achieving a specific race goal, or leading others. The power of vision is in its ability to inspire you to keep going when things feel tough. Get Gritty Action: Write down one thing that represents your ultimate dream as a triathlete. Whether it's a time goal, an experience, or a feeling, get specific about your vision and keep it front and center in your training. Share it with your community to hold yourself accountable. Keep your dream alive, and never stop selling it to yourself. Because when you have vision, you can achieve greatness.   TriDot Workout of the Week: Race Scenario Drills Welcome back to another segment of the TriDot Workout of the Week. We are going off script and covering a key part of your preparation for a race that is not related to your aerobic capacity or FTP. We are talking Bike Handling Skills for Race Day. This past weekend we covered the following Drills: Emergency Braking (crash in front of you) Braking Descending/Cornering (courses like Coeur d'Alene) How to bunny hop (a water bottle or pot hole) How to ride through and Aid Station and take nutrition Dropped chain recovery How to eat/drink/sunscreen while riding Draft Legal Pace Line / riding in a group Peeing on the bike    Fun Segment: Triathlon Fantasy Draft! Welcome to the Triathlon Fantasy Draft—the game where we build our dream team, race, or gear lineup one pick at a time. This is a no-holds-barred drafting showdown where everything in triathlon is up for grabs—gear, races, distances, legends, and even post-race snacks. No duplicates, no do-overs, and plenty of opinions. You'll love some of these picks… and you might want to roast others. Let the draft begin!     1. “Build Your Dream Race Day” Draft 1 item from each category: Swim location (for example, a lake, ocean, pool, etc.), Cozumel Bike course style (flat, hilly, technical, iconic), Pike's Peak APEX Run vibe (trail, city, beach, mountain) Post-race food:  Race-day weather 2. “All-Time Tri Gear Draft” Draft your gear setup: Wetsuit brand Bike (brand + style) Running shoes Must-have tech (watch, power meter, etc.) Nutrition product 3. “Triathlete Dream Team” Draft your ultimate relay team using any triathletes (pros, age groupers, historical icons): 1 swimmer 1 cyclist 1 runner 1 coach 1 wildcard (celebrity or fictional athlete)     Alright, the picks are in—but now it's your turn to weigh in! Who built the best fantasy lineup? Cast your vote and send us your own dream draft. And remember: there's no wrong answer—unless you drafted a treadmill as your race venue…   Closing:   Thanks again for listening this week. Most people never discover how great they truly are—not because they lack talent, but because they never show up with their full effort. They hedge. They wait until they feel perfectly confident, perfectly prepared, perfectly safe. But here's the gritty truth: Confidence doesn't come first. Action does. You don't build belief by standing still. You build it through movement—through showing up, pushing past the urge to hold back, and choosing effort over ego. So this week, forget perfect. Forget ready. Just show up. Fully. Give it a real go—not halfway, not with excuses, but with honest effort. That's how grit is forged. That's how potential is revealed. Genus' has had an incredible career not only as a first call sideman for the likes of Branford Marsalis, Roy Haynes, Bob James and Chick Corea, but he has held the bass chair at Saturday Night Live (SNL) for nearly 25 years and played on one of the biggest pop albums of the 2000s - Random Access Memories. In this episode, I'll discuss age, colorations, and behaviors as I take you on a tour of my Phormictopus collection. For those interested, I'll also be posting up a video version on YouTube later this week.  NOTE: Many of these "species" are likely just regional variants of P. cancerides, but we won't know for sure until this genus is studied further.
