In an episode that will be known as Brendan's "Flu Game," Andy and Brendan recap a meaningful week of fall golf that left men's winners in tears following their wins. Andy is excited that he drove through Moore County, North Carolina without receiving a speeding ticket, unlike at the U.S. Open. After a "Nico Echavarria Minute" to start the golf talk, the two discuss Rory McIlroy's win in Abu Dhabi, his sixth DP World Tour season-long title, tying Seve Ballesteros. Rory was deeply emotional following the win, looking back at his year that contained four worldwide wins and now the order of merit victory for the DP World Tour. The ten DP World Tour players that secured PGA Tour cards are also set, with "The Great" Manassero and Rasmus Højgaard headlining the newcomers. Next up is Swag Sports Minute, where Brendan unboxes the latest "Mystery Bx" drop from Swag Golf. Andy is disappointed in the Bears following another loss to the Packers, but sees positives in Caleb Williams's performance. PJ's Jets struggled again, as known golfer Ahmad Gardner could not tackle yet another receiver headed toward the end zone. The golf talk gets back on track with a wrap up of the Butterfield, won by Rafael Campos. Nelly Korda won again at The Annika, leading to a debate on whether Pelican Golf Club should "Nelly-proof" the course ahead of next year. To finish things up, Andy and Brendan touch on the news of President-Elect Donald Trump playing a round with Jay Monahan this weekend before sitting next to Yasir Al-Rumayyan at Saturday night's UFC event.

LGBTQ rights in North Carolina are under attack, but activists and organizers across the state are standing up to hate. In this conversation, Laura brings together featured guests in our award-winning series, “The Roots of the January 6th Insurrection” to hear their stories now leading up to the 2024 election. She first investigated LGBTQ backlash in the state in 2023, one year after a deadly power grid attack in Moore County. It coincided with a “Downtown Divas” drag show that had been harassed for months by anti-LGBTQ leaders. Now nearly two years after the attack, there are still no arrests. Plus, legislators and local leaders have introduced bans on books and gender affirming care for minors. On the heels of 2024 Durham Pride, we bring you this roundtable discussion featuring House of Coxx drag artists Stormie Daie and Naomi Dix; Dix is this year's grand marshall. Also featured are PFLAG Southern Pines founders Kristen Parker and Erica Street, and Street's daughter, Alex Lafferty, a young trans activist, artist and composer. //The Wire//1830Z May 23, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: MAJOR CHINESE EXERCISES BEGIN IVO TAIWAN. NORTH CAROLINA SHOOTING HIGHLIGHTS INCREASED THREAT ENVIRONMENT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Far East: This morning China announced major exercises in the waters around Taiwan. China's exercise (Joint Sword-2024A) has so far involved a handful of ships carrying out demonstrations and joint maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait. AC: A few days ago, Lai Ching-te was sworn in as Taiwan's President. As such, this exercise almost certainly related to political events in Taiwan. Nevertheless, Taiwanese forces have responded in kind, deploying substantial defenses (such as mobile ASCM launchers) at critical locations around the island.-HomeFront-North Carolina: Local media has become aware of a suspicious shooting incident that took place earlier this month. Originally kept quiet due to the investigation, details were released last night surrounding a shooting death involving a Special Operations soldier in Moore County. On May 3rd, local authorities were dispatched to a residence in Carthage in response to a trespassing complaint. Allegedly, the 911 caller also noted that the individual was taking pictures of their residence. After some time, an altercation occurred resulting in the trespassing individual being shot multiple times after allegedly becoming aggressive. Local authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed as Ramzan Daraev. The shooter's name has been withheld for the moment, but has been identified as a member of the Special Operations community.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The details of the Moore County shooting raise many red flags. Originally, Daraev was said to be an employee of Utilities One, a local electrical utility subcontractor. However at the time of the shooting he was located hundreds of feet onto the caller's property, was not wearing a uniform, and did not have any identification or equipment suggesting any official work for a utility company. Local media claims Daraev was from Chicago, however he was originally born in Chechnya. This is supported by the foreign identity documents that were reportedly found at the scene. Furthermore, some media sources claim that an accomplice fled the scene in a rental car following the shooting. As this is a developing incident that took place in a highly sensitive community, there is absolutely more to this story than meets the eye.As a reminder, a very common tactic for foreign intelligence agents is to obtain employment with an entity that grants semi-legitimate access to sensitive locations, such as private residences within a well-known Special Operations community.Factoring in other trends, and with the understanding that examining events of this magnitude and secrecy must rely on quite a bit of speculation, the tens of thousands of military aged males entering the southern border daily have highlighted the clear and present dangers to American society. It has become extremely clear over the past few months that foreign intelligence activities on U.S. soil have reached heights reminiscent of (and almost certainly surpassing) the height of the Cold War.Considering the 2022 mysterious electrical substation attack in the exact same area as the recent Moore County shooting, it is likely that the shadow war on American soil is continuing to escalate to include targeting the personal lives and family members of the Special Operations community.Incidents surrounding security breaches at U.S. military bases have also quietly been increasing over the past few months. For instance, Marine Corps Base Quantico quietly revealed that on May 3rd, the same day as the Moore County shooting, two Jordanian nationals attempted to breach the main gate while driving a box truck. Allegedly, one of the individuals detained in this incident was on a known terror

It was the biggest domestic terrorist attack on the electricity grid in U.S. history, but one year later, no arrests have been made and authorities have named no suspects other than to say that whoever did this “knew what they were doing.” In this installment of The Laura Flanders Show's investigation into the local roots of the January 6 insurrection in one state, North Carolina, Laura speaks with the North Carolinians who were at a drag show in Moore County when the lights went out. “Downtown Divas” had been harassed for months by anti-LGBTQ leaders — did the sabotage attack have anything to do with that harassment or the drag performance scheduled that night? As legislators and local leaders continue to roll back LGBTQ rights, they remain largely silent about the real threats facing North Carolinians and the nation from domestic terrorists with their sights set on U.S. power grids. Why? This episode also looks at how the LGBTQ community in North Carolina is standing up to hate and creating safety — with Drag operatics — for all.“When the lights went out, it didn't matter who was Black, who was Latino, who was Asian, who was a person of color, didn't matter if you were Catholic, if you were Baptist, if you were Christian. We were all in the same space, all in the same boat, which was that we didn't have any power.” - Naomi Dix“[After the attack] I remember thinking, I have to start speaking more . . . I have to start sticking up for myself and the trans community more, because that's what prevents things like this.” - Alex Lafferty“We aren't the villains in this situation. We have a right to exist and be performing and what I love about drag is the joy that we bring not only to LGBT people, but the whole community.” - Tori Grace Nichols“We are talking about a great harm that happened here in North Carolina, but this is a national problem and not a new one . . . This is a domestic terrorist threat that people really need to be paying attention to.” - Serena Sebring“. . . That show and that incident brought out two different sets of people. It brought out the lovers and it brought out the haters . . . Those haters have found a way to attack our youth through the school board and our communities.” - Erica StreetGuests:• Naomi Dix: Drag Artist, Activist & Member of Durham NC BIPOC Operated House of Coxx; Co-Chair, Pride: Durham, NC• Alex Lafferty: Daughter of Erica Street, High School Student & Youth Activist• Tori Grace Nichols: Drag Artist & Cultural Organizer• Serena Sebring: Executive Director, Blueprint North Carolina• Erica Street: Mother of Alex Lafferty; Co-founder, PFLAG Southern Pines SPECIAL INVITE:  Tuesday, April 9, at 7pm Eastern join us for our Season Premiere Watch Party for our first episode as Laura Flanders & Friends featuring Angela Davis;  then join Laura afterwards to discuss the interview and share your thoughts.  Subscribe to our newsletter for all the details at LauraFlanders.orgApril 2024 The Laura Flanders Show is rebranding as ‘Laura Flanders & Friends':  This change marks a new era for the award-winning host, Laura Flanders.  The upcoming season will introduce a collaborative hosting format, featuring a diverse array of co-hosts from different backgrounds and different regions of the country. //The Wire//2200Z March 1, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: WILDFIRES CONTINUE IN TEXAS. JAPAN BEGINS TO IMPROVE DEFENSES ON REMOTE OUTLYING ISLANDS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Poland: This morning a hit-and-run incident injured 17 people as a vehicle rammed into a crowd in the port city of Szczecin. The driver was later apprehended. As of this report it is not immediately clear if this was a deliberate action. Far East: Japanese defense strategists have outlined preparations to increase bomb shelter defenses for residents living on some of Japan's more remote outlying islands. This follows many months of preparations among U.S. forces throughout the region, who have steadily improved existing bases throughout the region.-Homefront-Maine: United Airlines flight 883 (from London to Newark) conducted an emergency landing in Bangor due to an unruly passenger causing serious disruptions. No further details on this incident at this time.Texas: Multiple wildfires continue to present hazards following the increase in favorable fire weather conditions over the past few days. The Smokehouse Creek Fire, the largest in Texas history (and the second largest in U.S. history) is now 15% contained. Precipitation yesterday greatly aided containment efforts, and have allowed crews to focus efforts on the northern edge of the fire. The Windy Deuce Fire in Moore County is still active, and is 50% contained at a size of roughly 142,000 acres.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Though the announcement of Japanese civil defense improvements may stoke concerns, this is likely not an indicator of imminent actions but rather a clear continuation of trends preparing for an eventual conflict within Asia. Most nations throughout the region have been preparing for an eventual conflict with China for years. As attacks on Japan (such as the island of Okinawa), and any other U.S. bases in the region are all but certain in the event of conflict, the creation and improvement of U.S. bases in the south Pacific is likely to increase substantially in the future.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Democrats are gearing up for the 2024 elections, hoping they can use some recent legal losses at the Supreme Court to fire up their base and target Republicans in vulnerable seats. Last month, the High Court voted to strike down both affirmative action in college admissions and President Biden's student loan debt relief plan. Last year, the party was able to successfully use the overturning of Roe vs. Wade to rally voters and prevent a 'red wave' in the midterms. Democrats are hoping the latest Supreme Court decisions will have the same effect in 2024. Co-Director of the FOX News Poll and Professor at the University of Texas Austin Daron Shaw discusses the Democrats' strategy ahead of the next election cycle.   Last month, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee visited Moore County, North Carolina during a field hearing on enhancing America's grid security. The goal of the hearing was to learn how to prevent the power grid from vulnerabilities, such as cyberattacks after the Duke Energy power substation was attacked last year leaving over forty-thousand homes and businesses without power. Congressman Larry Bucshon (R-IN) explains how the United States can prevent future attacks, and why lawmakers and private companies need to cooperate to protect critical infrastructure.
