To focus our thoughts this week of Thanksgiving, we will be looking at Paul’s teaching in Philippians 4. One of our songs of worship today is based off this passage. The story behind the writing of this song, “Rejoice,” is that the song speaks directly to the challenges of our time, especially the common struggle…
Things are crazy in these streets, but what if you kept your head and didn't move too much to the left and are perfectly positioned for the melt-up that is about to happen? Embracing chaos as a source for positive change is a powerful mindset shift. Instead of viewing disruption as a disaster to be resisted, you can learn to see it as the energy of possibility—a necessary period of deconstruction before a better creation can emerge. This process requires retaining hope and using the pause created by the chaos to your advantage. This week is a compilation of previously published segments where I explore intentionally seeking peace and speaking positivity into my life. Thank you for listening! Sometimes it's easy to think that either God forgot to give you peace or if he gave it to you, you forgot where you put it. But peace isn't just possible, it's a promise.
Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar sit down to tackle a weighty and nuanced topic: war. This discussion isn't about political sides—it's about wrestling with the moral, spiritual, and personal implications of warfare in a fallen world. Oscar reflects on how perspectives on war evolve over time. He urges caution against jumping into the hype, especially as Christians. People on every side are made in the image of God. War isn't something to relish. Mark agrees that war is never ideal, but believes it can be justified in certain cases. He points to Scripture and historical examples, including David and Nehemiah, as men who carried weapons while remaining faithful to God. He notes that sometimes war is necessary to establish peace and protect the innocent. The conversation explores the difference between civil and governmental responsibilities, along with the historic Christian approach to violence. The early church leaned toward pacifism, yet history shows that wasn't a universal stance. Oscar introduces just war theory, grounded in principles like self-defense, proportional response, and the avoidance of cruelty. Just war never glorifies violence—it permits it under strict moral limitations.Would a preemptive strike against a hostile nation be justified if credible threats were discovered? Mark believes that standing against tyranny can be an act of love toward one's neighbor. Oscar, however, questions whether such actions always align with just war principles. He points to past U.S. actions—like the tragic downing of a civilian plane—as reminders of how quickly moral clarity can blur. E.Z. underscores the danger of biased media by comparing contradictory headlines from CNN and Fox News, reminding listeners to seek truth from multiple sources. Ray shares how he deliberately checks both conservative and liberal news sources to challenge his own assumptions. Oscar shifts the conversation to the spiritual aspect of war—reminding listeners that violence is a consequence of sin. Defensive war may sometimes be necessary, but it must always be a last resort. Believers are called to be peacemakers because God made peace with them. Mark closes with a powerful story of the Christmas Day truce in World War I. For a brief moment, enemies laid down their weapons in recognition of something greater than the battle. The guys challenge listeners to do the same—raising hands in prayer instead of fists in anger. Scripture urges believers to love peace and pursue it. Before taking sides, one must ask: is there a heart that grieves the loss of life, or one that revels in destruction?Send us a textThanks for listening! Understanding Food Addiction is today's topic, an interesting concept brought forth a few weeks ago in my interview with specialist Jane Pilger entitled Seeking Peace with Food Episode 31. Even if you haven't listened to that discussion, you'll find this episode extremely informative. First of all…. Food addiction is a complex behavioral condition characterized by an obsessive and compulsive relationship with food, often leading to negative consequences for one's physical and psychological well-being. Unlike regular overeating or enjoying food, food addiction often involves a pattern of binge eating, intense cravings, and a lack of control over food intake, despite the adverse outcomes. Researchers have begun to explore the neurological, psychological, and environmental factors that contribute to food addiction, and several potential cures or treatments are being investigated. This session delves into the concept of food addiction, presents research and case studies that shed light on its causes, and discusses possible treatments. How often should I forgive someone who has sinned against me? Forgiveness can be very costly if you've really been hurt. But the forgiveness of sins is the purpose behind the cross and, therefore, is a primary value of the Christian life. Lent is a time to seek peace through the regular practice of repentance and forgiveness. Read more...

What is it about Peace that we all seek? It is a feeling and a frame of mind. It is also a place where the heart rests, where our anxiety is calmed, and our worries are banished. Sometimes we are so occupied with seeking it that we miss it – to be at peace is to refrain from struggling, to accept where we are regardless of how we measure the journey. Often it's a choice – in the midst of chaos. Choose peace. Trust God. That's where he wants us to be. Trusting Him is our source of peace. In Him, we are at peace. A prayer based on Proverbs 20:3. The world around us rewards those who speak up, don't back down, go down swinging, and rise again. We can simply step into the ring of social media to contend for our opinions without even leaving our homes. Stand at the edge of a fight, and you'll hear the cheers of energy and exhilaration as onlookers enjoy the clash. When we get wrapped up in quarreling, our home can soak up the strife. If we're not careful, our family will feel our fight. When the first punch is thrown as an offense, sharp word, or demeaning glance, the next words we choose either fuel the strife or stand for peace. We either step into the fight or away from it. We choose to make strife or peace. Is there a controversy you need to drop or an injury you need to forgive? How could you bring more peace to your home? In this edition of Peace Talks Radio, correspondent Julia Joubert explores intergenerationl connection. Studies have shown that at least six distinct generations currently live side by side in the United States, and there are almost equal numbers of people of every age alive today. To put that into perspective, we have the same number of people who are seven years old as 70. Yet, while we might be the most age diverse we have ever been, age segregation is also at an all time high. Rapid changes in technology, polarizing political views and isolating societal structures have resulted in a clear and growing generational gap. These divides are often fuelled by a lack of understanding as generations exist alongside each other but don't have ways to connect meaningfully. But, the opportunity is there!
February 09, 2004, Jon Romano entered his high school with a shotgun intent on going out in a blaze of glory and expected to be shot and killed by law enforcement. Ultimately what ended up happening is that several rounds were fired, a teacher was struck, a struggle ensued and Jon was taken into custody. Jon served 17 years for his crime. When released, he began to share his story on TikTok and gained notoriety. This is an interview where h tells the story as to what led up to him wanting to commit suicide by cop. Jon is on a mission now to help those in mental health crisis by being transparent with his own struggles, speaking to school administrators and law enforcement about how future school shooters can be stopped, and how we can all raise the bar for mental health. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. It's here! Our next series, “For the Love of the Middle” kicks off this week. Many of us are at that middle stage of life, and if we aren't, we're going to get there eventually. This series brings life, hope and humor to a period of life which can at times be surprising, confusing, but ultimately, steeped in the wisdom of years lived and the harder work of our 20's and 30's behind us. We're ringing in the start of this series with an amazing first guest; Mary Pipher, a clinical psychologist, anthropologist, and author. In her full scope of work, Mary has pioneered important conversations around motherhood and raising girls. Mary was the first to bring the effects of culture on mental health to the mainstream, especially for women and girls. She has a deep understanding of how culture can shape our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Her most recent work has focused on aging intentionally, peppered with her own experience and her work has inspired many people to rethink the way we approach mental health and aging within our society. Join Mary and Jen as they discuss: - Pipher's background in psychology and how she became engaged in the cultural conversations about girlhood. - The importance of cultivating personal resilience and adaptability in aging. - How society impacts the mental health of girls and women at different stages of life. - The cultural scripts that influence girls' body image and sexuality, and how they differ from reality. - The role of caregivers and the challenges they face in taking care of aging family members. Mary Pipher's work is groundbreaking in exploring the connections between culture, mental health, and their impacts on aging. Her insights are instrumental in shaping the way we approach mental health issues and caregiving, and her activism and writing continue to help women all over the world. Thank you to our sponsors! Thought-Provoking Quotes! “One of the things I really love about my life as a 75 year old is I'm very busy, but I can wake up every morning and decide what I want to be busy at. And what a gift that is.” - Mary Pipher “Every life stage has its joys and its challenges as you know. We know that there's a lot of research that women get happier as they age. They're the happiest demographic in the world.” - Mary Pipher “if you don't become better, you become bitter. Right? You either grow or you shrink. You don't get to stay the same without growing. We all age, but we don't all grow. And the secret of being happy is growing.” -Mary Pipher “I very much believe we all find what we're looking for. And if what we're looking for is joy and love and kindness and beauty and laughter, that's what we find.” -Mary Pipher “So one of the goals of this life state is learning to detach and let go--acceptance of the fact that my world will not be as popular as before. And that means that the light I find is not in other people's eyes, it's gotta be in my own heart.” -Mary Pipher Guest's Links!
