At the root of it all, Jason Blaine was born to sing, write and entertain. His love for country music has taken him to the forefront of the Canadian music scene where he has remained for over a decade. With over 12 Top 10 singles in Canada including hits such as “Country Side” and “Friends of Mine”, he has also become a craftsmen of hits for other people including Chris Jansen, Parmalee, Petric and Madeline Merlo and others. Originally from Pembroke, Ontario, Blaine moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006 with his wife Amy and their three-month-old baby girl. He burst onto the scene in a big way in 2007 with his first #1 hit single “Rock In My Boot” which led to multiple CCMA nominations and paved the way for a string of hit singles and major festival appearances across the country. Perhaps the biggest game changer came in 2012 when he released the biographical “They Don't Make ‘Em Like That Anymore”, which was written for his grandfather. The song was one of his biggest hits connecting with fans of all generations and eventually went on to win CCMA Single of the Year that same year. In between releasing hit songs and co-headling tours with Tebey, Chad Brownlee and Deric Ruttan, Blaine also found time to start up his annual Jason Blaine Celebrity Charity Golf Classic. Over the past five years, fellow artists and hockey legends ranging from Dallas Smith, Tim Hicks, and Gord Bamford, to Doug Gilmour and Bryan Murray have all contributed to helping raise over $500,000 for various hometown charities in Pembroke. Now, a multiple CCMA, SOCAN & CMAO award winner with over 20+ radio hits, six full length albums, over 12 million digital streams, and Jason still feels like he's just getting started. Writing full time within Nashville's publishing community, Jason resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Amy and their four children. This past summer the next chapter began as he began work on his brand new album, which was produced by Jay Tooke. The project breathes new life while lending itself to what Jason does best; great country music performed by one of Canada's most distinctive voices, telling stories of home, love, and nights on the town. As a craftsmen of songs, Jason found and wrote songs for the project which embody his artistry and move him into the next season of his career.

CCMAs have come and gone and much like a few years ago a got to go as media to cover the festivities. This episode is Part 2 of 2 for my CCMA interviews which includes Ty Hunter of the Hunter Brothers, Ty Baynton, UK artist Katy Hurt, Dustin Bird and Mallory Johnson. Ty Hunter and Mallory were both up for awards in London. the lead singer of the award winning family band The Hunter Brothers, none other than Ty Hunter. Ty was the lone brother in London and represented the family well. Now we had to reschedule the original interview but even with a busy schedule we made it work and got it done. Ty Baynton who after running into him and both of us having some down time at media row he said want to do it, and we did an on the spot interview with no prep just shooting the shit. Learn all about his music. Katy Hurt is a UK artist who is spending a lot of time across the pond in North America these days and has even made it through Winnipeg winters, something that should be a requirement for citizenship. Katy Hurt who has two songs on the go and gives an insight into the UK country music scene. Dustin Bird is a former CMAO rising star nominee who is killing it when it comes to his music on streaming services and even co-wrote a song for the Hunter Brothers new Holiday album. This up and comer will be one to keep an eye on and out for. I may have saved the best for last with Ms. Mallory Johnson. She was nominated for a new award at the CCMAs this year, and even after being interviewed by me in 2019 she was up for doing it again, still not sure why. Recently she took home hardware from Music Newfoundland since interviewing her in London, an amazing talent who with fellow Canadians Twin Kennedy brought a powerful song and message with “Wise Woman.” Thank you once again to all the artists/groups for their time, to the reps who organized the interviews for the artists as well as Penelope PR for once again giving me a media pass and the opportunity to be at media row and take pictures during the CCMA events. Hopefully I am afforded the chance/opportunity to do it again in the fall in Calgary for the 2022 awards.

Country music singer-songwriter Kelly Prescott has officially released her single “Trailer Trashed” on all DSPs. The playful track has already earned the soulful artist a coveted spot as a finalist at SiriusXM's Top of the Country. She will hit the stage as part of the Top of the Country showcase on November 26th at the 2021 Canadian Country Music Awards Week. Fans can watch the video for “Trailer Trashed” here, and stream and download it here. Of “Trailer Trashed,” Kelly says “It's been a really tough year and a half and the last thing I wanted to do was write more sad music. I'm a big fan of tongue in cheek country and challenging gender norms. Women don't usually sneak too many cheesy pickup lines in a song so we thought it would be funny to do so.” The release of this track marks the first at Kelly's new home of Warner Music Canada. “Kelly's an incredible songwriter who has a remarkable musical lineage. She has such an impressive voice, and I've long been inspired by her unbridled ‘say-anything' lyrical style," says Ron Lopata, Vice President of A&R for Warner Music Canada. In addition to the release of “Trailer Trashed,” Kelly has announced that she will be joining Alan Doyle on a slate of tour dates this fall. The shows run from November 9 through to November 28, and will bring Kelly through Halifax, Ottawa, London and Toronto to name just a few. See below for the full listing, or visit kellyprescottmusic.com for tickets. Kelly Prescott comes by her music in the most honest way possible, as a third generation singer/songwriter on both sides of her family. Kelly and her family made their Grand Ole Opry debut as guests of Terri Clark in 2018. The past year has been a whirlwind for singer-songwriter Kelly Prescott since the release of her acclaimed EP “Love Wins.” The self-penned six song collection draws straight from her own heart, and just earned Prescott her first ever CCMA Award nomination for “Roots Album of the Year” and two CMAO nominations for “Album of the Year” and “Roots Artist of the Year.” She has toured all over North America with such acts as Alan Doyle, Kyle Cook (Matchbox 20) Terri Clark, Dallas Smith, Jim Cuddy, Colin James, Dean Brody, her former band The Claytones and performing as Emmylou Harris in the theatrical production of Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons.

One of the most noticeable things about Shake These Walls is the range of moods and emotions on offer. Take the boisterous first single Stompin’ Ground, an instant radio smash and a snapshot of the good old days when hard-partying with kin and kindred was less distraction than vocation. “I wanted to show people I had grown,” Tim Hicks says of his new album Shake These Walls. “There is truth in each of these songs because I co-wrote every one of them. I have a personal connection with every lyric, every riff. People are going to find there’s a healthy dose of the Tim Hicks party in there but there’s lots of other stuff certain to be interesting to many different people.” “That song and We Came Up – a soaring ode to brotherhood - speak to simpler times,” Tim confirms. “They have a slightly new feel to them but they still shoot for the party crowd.” At the other end of the spectrum is Slide  Over, a vividly drawn and unabashedly knock-kneed mid-tempo track with a dangerously infectious chorus. “That  song is so real,” Tim says. When people with full-time jobs have kids, well… relationships can suffer. Things get in  the way of the people you once were. You have to remember to sit down with each other, just have a beer and ask,  ‘How was your day?’ So that song is that.” As Tim explains, the album was crafted in a somewhat workmanlike fashion during 5 months in Nashville. “It was as close to a day job as I’ve ever had,” he cracks, “With two young  kids at home, the days of drinking half a bottle of whiskey and writing songs at 3 a.m. are long gone.”

RIKI KNOX is a singer, songwriter and entertainer who’s unique sound and genuine lyrics have seen her blazing a new trail in the country music scene. She has a style that is authentically her own. With the term ‘Bro Country’ at its peak, she offers a strong reminder that being “raised country” is a way of life…without gender attachment. “I grew up as one of the guys” she recalls. "Sure, I was happy to sit on the passenger side of the pick up, or on the back of the four wheeler, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t doing my fair share of the driving” She’s a girl who values and appreciates the ‘little things in life’. That grounded mindset has seen her go from playing church and charity events, to sharing the big stage with artists like Dallas Smith, Marc Jordan, and Justin Hines - to name a few. 2014 found Riki filling her travel book with trips between Toronto and Nashville, and into Western Canada to lay the groundwork for her forthcoming album. “I wanted to write songs that really spoke to who I am as both an artist and a person” she explains. Staying true to that statement, she spent time writing with some very notable songwriters, including Willie Mack (Sara Evans, Collin Raye, The Oakridge Boys, Mark Wills), Jason McCoy (The Road Hammers), Duane Steele, Jake Mathews, Patricia Conroy, and Troy Kokol among others. When satisfied that she had the right songs in hand, she headed back to Nashville armed with the goal of creating great new music that her fans would appreciate and relate to. With Willie Mack at the producers helm, the infectious hooks and lyrics, along with Riki’s energy and unique style, manage to seamlessly blend classic country, country rock, and a new age sound without missing a beat. Riki's new single is called Six Feet Under.
