Shortly after his marriage, the King of Egypt Ptolemy III, received word of imminent danger to his sister. In return for his safety as his marched to Syria to save his sister's life, his loving wife promised to sacrifice a lock of her hair in return for his safety. Upon his return from the campaign, a lock of hair from the Queen's head was cut and dedicated to the gods, only to disappear by the following day. Later, the court astronomer Conon then announced that he had discovered the lock in the night. To this day, the constellation is called Coma Berenices ("Berenice's Lock"). Key quotes: “Berenice was already hailed as Basilissa (queen) on coins even in her father's lifetime and, upon her marriage, she would be known as Berenice II Euergetis (‘Berenice the Benefactress').” “Allegedly, Demetrius and Apama soon became lovers. According to legends, Berenice killed Demetrius after seeing him in bed with her mother.” “Controlling the narrative of the retelling of Demetrius' murder would have been one of the earliest challenges that the newlyweds faced.” “Ptolemy III needed to introduce a new mythological basis for the new chapter brought about by his own marriage to Berenice, strengthening his dynastic continuity.” “In the poem Berenice's Lock, Callimachus provided further details of the event, that Zephyrus carried off the lock at the command of Aphrodite who then placed it among the stars.” Join us as we unravel the romance, drama and politic of Berenice II, the girl who became Queen. For more historical insights, visit Martini Fisher's website and check out her book “Time Maps: Mesopotamia”.

The holy Martyr Conon lived in the days of the holy Apostles; he was born in the village of Bydane of Isauria in Asia Minor, to parents named Nestor and Nada. He was instructed in the Faith and baptised into Christ by the Archangel Michael himself, who, it is said, accompanied him for the rest of his life. His parents joined him in marriage to a pagan maiden named Anna; but on their wedding night he took a candle, put it under a vessel, and asked her 'Which is better, light or darkness?' She answered 'Light,' and he told her of the Christian faith and the joys of the spiritual life. She accepted Christ, and the two agreed to live in virginity. Conon went on to bring many pagans to Christ, including his own parents. His wife and both parents died after a few years (Nestor as a Martyr) and he gave himself up entirely to prayer, fasting, and contemplation on God. He was known as a wonder-worker, and even evil spirits were compelled to serve him.   During one of the persecutions, Magnus the governor of Isauria imprisoned Conon and had him tortured, beaten and stabbed with knives. Believers obtained some of his blood, and the sick who were anointed with it became well. A large crowd of Christians whom Conon had brought to Faith surrounded the governor's palace demanding Conon's release, and the frightened governor let him go. He lived for two more years in his own home, then reposed in peace.

As Jesus resurrected others from the dead with St. Eudokia how would you change and glorify the Lord with your new life? God opened the eyes of others through St. Eudokia, It's your turn to make your faith known.Saints of Lent Series During Lent, we as Christians are called to more. It is a time to challenge our usual routines and to refocus on what we are called to be - followers of Christ. Lent goes from Ash Wednesday to Easter - a 40-day observation on our lives. Stepping back and examining our focus of life whether work, family, sports, social media, or the distractions of everyday life, we can see how our focus is not on God alone. So this Lent, I encourage you to follow along each day with some simple reflections on those who have gone before us marked in the sign of faith. We aren't talking about Aunt Louise in your family, but more so the saints and martyrs who put their faith first. I wish this was something I had decided on when I was younger, as it's still something I'm currently working on at 28 years old.I think that's a massive lesson to learn at such a young age, of which will undoubtably cultivate success for oneself, despite not having all the answers.Links: Sound Off Experience // Sound Off IG // DJ Taz Rashid // Day Breaker event // Expensify // Mandala Workshop // Spiritually Nutritious // wellandwhy@gmail.com--------------------------------Inner.U Life/Inner.U LoveLearn to Human Better in LOVE with Lauren Zander's new online coaching course, Inner.U Love.

In Episode 7 of Naval History Podcast, we conclude our coverage of the Peloponnesian War with a study of the Decelean War, during which most of the naval action shifts back to the Aegean. During this most violent phase of the war, the Persian Empire intervenes in an effort to gain power in the region, bankrolling Sparta and protracting the war, even as Athens, still predominant at sea, struggles to survive. Notable commanders include The competent, unsung Thrasybulus and the flawed Conon (on the Athenian side); the capable but unfortunate Mindarus and the reckless Callicratidas (on the Spartan side); and, shifting his allegiances as he sees fit, the psychopath Alcibiades. All of these men, and thousands of other Greeks, struggle for their empires and for their lives as the long, bloody Peloponnesian War at last nears its violent climax.
