Thank you to Nuuly, both for sponsoring today's episode and for making it easier to get dressed during these hardest times of the year for CLOTHES (spring for Erica, summer for Claire, thanks for asking). Have we sold you on Nuuly yet? Use cases: trying out a bunch of jeans (or, gasp, shorts), dealing with wedding season, test-driving a bunch o' new looks without having to own them, navigating maternity and post-partum dressing…we could go on. And! Right now you can get $28 off your first month of Nuuly when you sign up with the code ATHINGORTWO Starting off with our pre-season preparation, we're curating a no-skips underwear drawer with help from Laura Reilly's newsletter (and Claire's love for the Natori Bliss Brief lives on!). We're also giving our shoes TLC at Leather Spa and getting a little post-winter warm-up with Tan-Luxe The Gradual, Tanning Water, and St. Tropez's Face Mist and Bronzing Mousse.  Ok, onto clothing and accessories! Porselli x Alex Mill ballet flats and Chalo cowboy boots have been in Erica's rotation, and though she's already found jean shorts from Agolde (ahem, via Nuuly), she's looking for sporty shorts like Justin's. The barefoot shoe crowd got us curious about the Xero Genesis, we're going to The Consistency Project for jeans, and Claire is growing a jean shacket collection, intentional or not.  To try to reinvigorate our excitement for getting dressed, we're reading Emilia Petrarca's piece on embracing glamour for Harper's Bazaar.  Respect to Rebecca Jennings for naming the Big Baby trend. How do you get yourself more excited to get dressed up? Let us know at 833-632-5463, podcast@athingortwohq.com, @athingortwohq, or our Geneva. Change your clothes (monthly!) with Nuuly and get $28 off your first month when you sign up with the code ATHINGORTWO. YAY.

Natasha and I originally recorded a Pre-Loved Podcast episode back in March 2020 -- it aired on March 23rd, and I'll link it in the shownotes because it's still a great episode if you haven't hear it.  But, as we all know, the spring of 2020 was a time of big changes -- for all of us.  Let's see if I can get this timeline right -- Natasha opened a physical Brooklyn location for The Consistency Project, her vintage and upcycling sustainable fashion business in December 2019, just a couple months after having her first baby! Of course, less than four months later, the pandemic would force TCP to close their doors to the public.  When Natasha and I spoke on Pre-Loved Podcast last month, we all thought maybe the closures would be a temporary storm to ride. But by the time summer came around, Natasha made the difficult decision to close the physical space permanently, and actually move her family and TCP to Hawaii where she grew up.  We thought it would be really interesting to catch up and really realistic and helpful to hear the stories about making hard decisions to pivot in your business. The Consistency Project is still at it breaking the stigma of secondhand and reworking fashion. They're just doing it in different ways.  I'm really, really excited for this episode, so let's dive right in!  All the Episode Links: @theconsistencyproject @oftheland_  @picnicwear @selina_sanders @fab_scrap @stonemountainfabric @athriftynotion @fossickstudio * JOIN THE PATREON COMMUNITY and get the Pre-Loved Podcast News Flash: https://www.patreon.com/prelovedpod  A special thanks goes out to my Patron Insiders: Patty Weber Beverley Docherty of Wolfe Pack Vintage Julie Kearns of Shop Junket Danny of Galaxy Live Kayla of Pins Thrift & Vintage **For more good stuff every week be sure you subscribe to Emily's newsletter! “There's no diet plan, there's no 30 day challenge that's going to stick with you forever.  You, ultimately at some point, are in the driver's seat.” - EC Synkowski EC Synkowski is the founder of OptimizeMe Nutrition, a company dedicated to helping anyone improve their health and well being with simple, non-restrictive diet methods. EC started CrossFit in 2006 and over time her enthusiasm and hard work led to seminar staff and flowmaster positions for the Level 1 and CrossFit Weightlifting courses, a CF-L4 certification, and a career as a Program Manager with CrossFit, Inc.  In 2017, EC stepped down from her position at CrossFit to focus on finishing her second master's degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. From there, she founded OptimizeMe Nutrition, where she focuses on helping individuals understand nutrition physiology and it's day-to-day application. She is the creator of the #800gChallenge, a straightforward eating plan that encourages participants to maximize their fruit and vegetable intake and encourages the consumption of whole, unprocessed foods, and it's slightly more advanced partner, Lazy Macros. I was excited to catch up with EC for her second appearance on the podcast.  We talked about the 10 Principles of Nutrition, the importance of making sustainable changes to our diet, and the nutrition takeaways she's gleaned from the COVID-19 pandemic. This conversation left me feeling inspired, and Dani and I have decided to run a four week challenge using EC's Lazy Macros approach starting on September 28, 2020 for all of our Pursuing Health subscribers! Our focus will be on eating 800 grams of fruits and vegetables and meeting protein goals each day, with a leaderboard to track people who demonstrate the most consistency with the 800g, protein, workouts, and sleep. This challenge will be open to all subscribers at no additional fee. Journey's Consistency Project is an opportunity for the people of Journey to commit one month to re-engage in the spiritual practices of Scripture reading, praying, and expressing gratitude. Every choice we make lines up and knocks down another choice—one domino at a time. Each domino has enough force when it's tapped over, to knock down the next domino twice its size. Each choice has the successive power to make a bigger and better choice along the way. We want to encourage you to consistently seek after God. Because of what this season has looked like, there are going to be a lot of long standing mental and emotional effects that we all experience. We have experienced shock and sorrow that can lead to struggle which we often attempt to soothe with unhealthy choices. Moving forward, in order to set ourselves up for success we must first build a strong foundation of connection and relationships. After you have that solid foundation, we must build a frame of purpose and routine. Last, we must find the beauty that comes from balancing trust and self-control.

A lot of us carry around the weight of our past mistakes believing that they disqualify us from being used by God, but God uses broken people to do His work. In the Bible, Paul comes from a past that is full of brokenness to the point of murder, but this only further propels Him towards the work God does in and through him. You are not what you have done. Instead, you are who God says you are, and He wants to use you if you will say yes.

In the book of Acts, we read about the growth of the church that is a result of a group of people acting with boldness to proclaim the message of Jesus. It is not God's intention for a small group of people to do the work of the church. Instead, His intention is that we all are a part. Each person has a responsibility to use their gifts and abilities to help the church grow. No matter the fear and trepidation, we want to live our lives in reckless abandon for the Gospel. We need to grab a hold of the call Jesus has on our life and continue to move forward because heaven is our reward.

This world is full of opportunity, and while there are lots of different missions to chase, ultimately our priority should be to take part in the mission of reaching the lost. The book of Luke tells us that as a follower of Jesus, we are called to do 3 things: go into the world, be a witness of Jesus, and proclaim the Gospel. In order to be a witness for Jesus we need to have experienced Him, but also share the experience with others. Even when we feel inadequate, God will empower us to share our experiences and the truths of the Gospel with others. As a church, rather than being a local institution, we must be a gospel-centered movement. We must not just go to church, we must be the church through living out the mission God has given us. Through being connected to Jesus and having fellowship with others, we can be a church that boldly proclaims the truth and empowers people to take their next step with Jesus.

This Consistency Project is an opportunity for the people of Journey to commit one month to re-engage in the spiritual practices of Scripture reading, praying, and expressing gratitude for the 31 days in August. Every choice we make lines up and knocks down another choice—one domino at a time. This a simple way to connect with God for one month, with the hope that it will become a powerful habit you keep practicing for the rest of the year. 2020 has not been easy, but let's make sure we keep growing in our relationship with Christ. That's why our theme for the Consistency Project is our identity in Christ.
