On this episode, I am starting off my March Madness series of films showcasing characters who descend into madness. Kicking it off with the 1980 cult classic Fade to Black. This psychological horror film is about Eric Binford, a shy lonely guy who has a love for film. His obsession with the movies goes too far as he doles out cinematic justice to the folks who have wronged him. Short and spoiler free, come give a listen. I saved a seat in the theater just for you. Today we present another ALL REQUEST SHOW on THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. Since launching the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST Patreon in April 2021, we've offered our patrons exclusive perks based on the tier they signed up for. One of those perks is participating in all request programs. If you want to participate in future all-request shows, please head over to our Patreon page, and join the community in any tier that is $5 USD/month or above. Once you do so you will be able to participate in all upcoming all-request programs. For this all-request show, and in honour of the release of the fifth and presumably last Indiana Jones adventure, INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY, I asked my patrons to select cues from action/adventure films with only one rule... no Indiana Jones tracks. Participants included Victor Field, Glenn McDorman, Will Welch, Don Mase, Carl Wonders, Stacy Livitsanis, Jérôme Flick, Al Brown, Deniz Çağlar, Lee Wileman, Jochen Stolz, Max Hamulyak, Angela Rabatin and Joe Wiles. They requested tracks from such composers as Basil Poledouris, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, John Debney, Joe Hisaishi, Craig Safan, Ludwig Goransson, John Williams, Andrew Lockington, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard and Alfred Newman. This was once again a fantastic show to produce and I want to thank those who participated. Again, for those that didn't get a chance to send in a request and want to be a part of the next all-request program sometime this summer, we'd love to have you join the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST Patreon family. But don't feel like you have to join. I'm not forcing anyone to join. Remember this podcast will always be free to listen to but if you want to support the program and join the community we've formed on Patreon then we'd love to have you. Enjoy the show! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Douglas Lacey, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Clint Morgan, Rudy Amaya, Eric Marvin, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Today you get to enjoy the fourth show programmed by one of our patrons from the CONDUCTOR TIER over at our Patreon page.  In this tier, which is $10 USD ($14.50 CAN), donors get all of the benefits of lower tiers PLUS they earn the opportunity to program their very own personal one-hour(ish) show once a year. Victor Field, a long-time fan of the show, took advantage of this opportunity and this is the show that he put together for us to enjoy! So, how did Victor get into soundtrack collecting? This is what he had to say... I was born in England but my dad moved us to his home country of Barbados in 1976. I spent my childhood and teen years there before coming back to England to live in 1993. One of first album purchases was TVT's double album "Television's Greatest Hits". I think it was I didn't want to be listening to what everyone else around me was, I'm still kicking myself that I was so late to discover taping from the TV. I once asked my dad why we never went to see "Star Wars" (I refuse to call it "Star Wars: A New Hope") in the cinema? He said I never asked! Although I did go to see "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return Of The Jedi". I haven't seen any of the Special Editions. As with all of the Patreon Playlist shows, this one is a varied and eclectic program featuring music from various eras of film and TV.  You'll hear selections from Basil Poledouris, Alfred Newman, Jerry Goldsmith, Dave Grusin, Barry Grey, Derek Wadsworth, Danny Elfman, Craig Safan, Bruce Broughton, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, John Williams, and Brad Fiedel. Enjoy the podcast, and thanks for all of your efforts in curating this playlist, Victor! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Alex Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Clint Morgan, Rudy Amaya, Eric Marvin, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. SOUNDTRACK ALLEY has become THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS! Two years ago this month, host and producer Randy Andrews brought his film music podcast SOUNDTRACK ALLEY to the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. We've enjoyed the partnership immensely and his show has brought a new dimension to the podcast in the form of long-formed reviews and analyses of soundtracks. However, we felt the need to separate our version of the show from the version that he still produces on his own under the SOUNDTRACK ALLEY moniker. Therefore, all SOUNDTRACK ALLEY episodes produced expressly for CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO will now be known as THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS. The format of the show won't change. It will always remain a deep dive review into some of the best soundtracks of all time… scores that everyone should have in their collections… THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS. On this premiere episode of the newly rebranded THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS, host Randy Andrews and Erik Woods talk about the film and score to the 1984 Nick Castle-directed sci-fi/fantasy/adventure film, THE LAST STARFIGHTER, starring Lance Guest, Robert Preston, Dan O'Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart, Norman Snow, and Kay E. Kuter. The film tells the story of Alex Rogan, a teenager recruited by an alien defence force to fight in an interstellar war. Randy and Erik also detail the numerous themes in the score, the recording of the soundtrack, the composition and form of the action material, and the heart behind the music, especially the finale cue "Into The Starscape" The original score for the film was composed by Craig Safan and was recorded by Lyle Burbridge in Los Angeles. The original soundtrack recording was originally released on Southern Cross Records both on CD and LP in 1987. Intrada Records expanded the album both in 1995 and 2015. Earlier this year, Intrada released the definitive release of the score featuring the same program as the 2015 version but with greatly improved sound quality. You can buy that version of the album HERE! Thanks to Jason Drury and Tim Burden for their assistance. And a big thanks to Intrada's own Roger Fiegelson for providing the updated album to play on this show for you. Enjoy the program! Welcome to part one of episode 33 of THE ARCHIVE on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. Both parts include releases from the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022, starting with music from John Powell's acclaimed score for HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 (VARESE SARABANDE), followed by a re-recording of Jerry Goldsmith's first-ever score BLACK PATCH (INTRADA), and Craig Safan's new score for the classic silent horror film THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (INTRADA). After playing a suite from John Barry's iconic 1964 score for ZULU (QUARTET), Jason plays excerpts from a vintage release of Raymond Leppard's 1969 film ALFRED THE GREAT (KRITZERLAND), a crucial cue from Mark Isham's 1993 score for FIRE IN THE SKY (INTRADA), and the end credits of Miklos Rozsa's final score DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID (INTRADA) Part two will be with you soon. Aunque sólo sea por Starfighter y Remo, Craig Safan merece un capítulo especial en la música de cine. Sin duda, es un autor infravalorado por la industria que no ha sabido reconocer todo su talento. En el programa he seleccionado los siguientes scores: Angel (Honor student)/ Starfighter: La aventura comienza (Death blossom/Big victory march/Alex returns/Into the starscape/End credits). Remo, desarmado y peligroso (Main title/Liberty chase/Chiun walks on water). Lady Beware (Love theme)/Lecciones inolvidables (Success). Misión suicida: USSS Indianáplis (Rescue)/Esta es nuestra tierra (Finale). Mayor Paine (End title). Lobos humanos (Main title). Sintonía compuesta por Curro Martín. Voz de Pablo Silicato.

Welcome to the premiere episode of SOUNDTRACK ALLEY here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. SOUNDTRACK ALLEY is a podcast hosted and produced by Randy Andrews who is also the host and producer of ANIME SPECTACULAR here on the network. SOUNDTRACK ALLEY has been around for many years and I’ve been honoured to be a guest on his show many times to discuss numerous topics like STAR TREK, INDIANA JONES, and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. The show is a discussion formatted program where Randy invites a special guest to talk about one of his favourite films and film scores. The discussion usually ranges from 90 minutes to 2 hours in length with in-depth discussions of the film and music. Randy has produced close to 100 episodes of the show which also included various composer interviews. A few days ago, Randy came to me and told me that he was thinking of moving SOUNDTRACK ALLEY to CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. We had a lengthy discussion to make sure this is what he wanted and after going over the details we agreed to bring all-new episodes of the podcast over the network. However, the entire archive of previous SOUNDTRACK ALLEY episodes will stay on the original server as an archive. We did this so fans of the show could still access the older programs without having to bring them all onto the CSR servers. The first episode to premiere here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is a discussion between myself and Randy Andrews about the film and score to INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL released in 2008. The film was the fourth instalment in the Indiana Jones series set in 1957, pitting Indiana Jones against Soviet agents – led by Irina Spalko – searching for a telepathic crystal skull. The original score for the film was composed and conducted by John Williams and performed by The Hollywood Symphony Orchestra. We hope you enjoy the discussion, the music and all future episodes of SOUNDTRACK ALLEY. Enjoy! And now, here is Randy Andrews statement on SOUNDTRACK ALLEY joining CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. —— Hi, I’m Randy Andrews, you might know me from ANIME SPECTACULAR. I wanted to give you a very brief history of SOUNDTRACK ALLEY. I was always impressed by podcasting, and I’ve always had a love of film music. About 6 years ago, I began listening to a local podcast that encouraged its listeners to call in or send an mp3 for a recorded answer. I did so many times. Soon, my comments became more and more intriguing for the host. They encouraged me to start my own podcast about soundtracks. About a half year later, I did my research and bought a podcast microphone and started recording shows, not really knowing what I was doing. By my 11th episode, I was interviewing big-name composers like Craig Safan from THE LAST STARFIGHTER. Then I discovered CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO while at work and it changed my life! I got in touch with Erik Woods and asked him if he would like to be on my our program to discuss CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND.. He accepted and from there, he introduced me to the Krakower Group headed up by the late Beth Krakower and they helped me to interview more composers like Blake Neely, Elik Elverez, and Rolf Kent jus to mention a few. I also took the initiative to reach out to composers on my own such as Lesley Barber, Sharon Farber, Bruce Rowland, and Rob Cairns. Over the years, SOUNDTRACK ALLEY has gone through a couple of iterations and transitions due do unforeseen circumstances and the latest version of the podcast unfortunately hasn’t been doing as well as I hoped. I needed another change. This is where Erik Woods and CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO comes into play. I’ve always wanted to share my love of films and film music with as many people as possible and this transition over to CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO gives me that opportunity. CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is one of the best venue’s for film, TV and video game music radio/podcasting and I’m thrilled to bring my show to the network and all of the loyal, long time listeners of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. I want to thank Erik Woods for all the encouragement over the years as he has been the biggest supporter of me and SOUNDTRACK ALLEY. A new chapter has begun and I can’t wait to share my passion with you all. To be included in such an amazing family of podcasts is an honour. Here’s to the future! —— Check out our NEW Cinematic Sound Radio TeePublic Store! https://www.teepublic.com/stores/cinematic-sound-radio Cinematic Sound Radio Web: http://www.cinematicsound.net Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/cinsoundradio Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/cinematicsound Cinematic Sound Radio Fanfare and Theme by David Coscina https://soundcloud.com/user-970634922 Bumper voice artist: Tim Burden http://www.timburden.com

PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND LISTEN AT YOUR LEISURE Craig Safan has just about checked all the boxes when it comes to music. Early in his career he was a prolific songwriter but soon discovered a talent for composing for films/TV. He is perhaps best known for his scores to films such as The last Starfighter and Remo Williams. His TV credits are just as impressive as he provided music for shows like Amazing Stories, Tales from the Crypt and 11 seasons of Cheers.  Craig has picked favorites of his own composition and will demonstrate his skill of versatility with a wide variety of music. Great music with interesting conversation. A great match!

I wasn't planning on preparing a show this week since I'm on vacation but I had some free time Thursday morning so I just threw this two-hour program together. At least you have SOMETHING to listen to until the regularly scheduled show returns. So, in about five hours this show was written, recorded and edited. I decided to play really LONG tracks this week. I've done this type of show int he past. On my 15 anniversary program, I played 15 minutes long cues. On this week's program, I added an extra few minutes and decided to play tracks that are 16-17 minutes in length - tracks that are no shorter than 15 minutes 59 seconds and no longer than 18 minutes. Don't ask why. It's just for fun and I hope you enjoy the selections. The six scores you will hear at THE DARK KNIGHT by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, POLTERGEIST by Jerry Goldsmith, THE MISSING by James Horner, THE ADVENTURES OF CONAN: SWORD AND SORCERY SPECTACULAR by Basil Poledouris, SON OF THE MORNING STAR by Craig Safan and the Academy Award-winning score for THE RED VIOLIN by John Corigliano.
