Subscribe to Throwing Fits on Substack. Our interview with Mark Anthony Green might just be our own Opus. MAG—writer and director of the new film Opus, starring John Malkovitch and Ayo Edebiri—returns to TF for an Oscar-nominated performance discussing the full capsule collection of movie merch he made with Nike ACG and Levi's, time thieving at GQ to make this film over the course of six years, why some actors exhibit such terrible behavior, how the dickhead magazine editor is 100% for sure not based on his old boss and big homie Will Welch, flying to Latvia to sign an eyepatch-laden John Malkovich, how Johnny Mack went full Mack mode for his character, why New Mexico is a fickle bitch, putting his own clothes in the film and other fashion Easter eggs throughout for the heads, hitting the studio with Nile Rodgers and Tha Dream, using fashion shows and a forgotten Michael Jackson album as inspiration, getting back in the cannon like Evil Kneival, giving up Shirley Temples, how Hollywood's corruption kills dreams everyday, how to get into Hollywood Illuminati, riffing on what his next project could be and having Throwing Fits as executive producers, and so much more on Mark Anthony Green's interview with The Only Podcast That Matters™.

Once you do, you can participate in all upcoming all-request programs. Before we get into today's episode, we must first discuss its origins. On October 30, 2023, I worked late into the evening to complete the first ALL REQUEST HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. The audio was recorded, tracks were chosen, and the editing was finished. I tried to export the show, and to my horror Adobe Audition crashed. I restarted the application and tried again. Same result, but this time I received an error message indicating that my voice-over file was corrupt. It took nearly an hour to record the voiceover and several hours to edit the episode. I was also in the midst of one of my busiest years ever, so I didn't have the time or energy to do it all over again, so I informed my Patrons that the show would be postponed and rescheduled for this year! Thank goodness I have a wonderful community of patrons over there, they understand and waited patiently for the show to be done.  Fast forward almost 365 days, and here we are; everything has been re-recorded, re-edited, and... I am pleased to announce that the show has been successfully exported for you to enjoy today! For this first ever Patreon All Request Halloween Special show, you get to hear some spooky favourites from the biggest supporters of the Cinematic Sound Radio Podcast including Alan Rogers, Al Brown, Glenn McDorman, Don Mase, Will Welch, Angela Rabatin, Deniz Çağlar, Jérôme Flick, Stacy Livitsanis, Lee Wileman, Joe Wiles, Jeffrey Graebner, Victor Field, Eldaly Morningstar, Steve Karpicz, Dave Williams and Carl Wonders. SMILING THROUGH THE APOCALYPSE—In the past few weeks, Will Welch has taken a bit of flack for letting Beyoncé promote her new whiskey label on the cover of GQ's October issue, with an interview that one X user described as “an intimate email exchange between GQ and several layers of Beyonce's comms team.”Whether that kind of thing rankles you or not—and yes, we asked him about it—in the five years since Welch took over, GQ seems to be doing as well or better than everybody else in the industry. Why? Ask around. He's got a direct line to celebrities, who consider him a personal friend. He's got real credibility with The Fashion People. And because of both of these things, advertisers love him.Perhaps most importantly, his boss Anna Wintour loves him. The Atlanta-born Welch started his career at the alternative music and culture mag the Fader in the early aughts, and jumped to GQ in 2007. For a decade under EIC Jim Nelson, he operated as the magazine's fashion-and-culture svengali, eventually becoming the creative director of the magazine and the editor of the brand's fashion spinoff, GQ Style. In 2019, Wintour tapped him for the big job: Editor-in-Chief of GQ—a title that in 2020 was recast in the current Condé Nast survival-mode as Global Editorial Director of GQ, overseeing 19 editions around the world. After speaking with Welch only a few hours after the Beyonce cover dropped, we get what all the fuss is about. He is a great sport with good hair and just enough of a Southern accent who is confident-yet-never-cocky about his mission at GQ.Let other people bemoan the “death of print.” Will Welch is having a blast at the Last Supper. —This episode is made possible by our friends at Mountain Gazette, Commercial Type, and Freeport Press. To kick off the new year we thought it would be fun to take a little stroll down memory lane and look back at some of our favorite Nordy Pod moments from 2023. We've had a lot of fun making this thing and chatting with all the fascinating people that have agreed to come on the show. Fashion icons like Domenico De Sole, Anna Wintour and Will Welch, incredible fashion designers like Simone Rocha and Erdem, successful brand partners like Gucci Westman and David Neville of Westman Atelier, Caspar Coppetti of On running shoes, Anastasia Soare of Anastasia Beverly Hills and Ben Gorham of BYREDO. We've also had the great pleasure of chatting with a slew of really amazing athletes and entertainers like former NFL wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks Doug Baldwin, former NBA All Star of the Chicago Bulls Bob Love, Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist Macklemore and TV and film star Joel McHale. We're proud to highlight some of our employees that have used Nordstrom as a platform to build really impressive careers. For example, three of our very best salespeople: Jesse James Barnholdt, Gregory Clark and Jeffrey Ola. This year has also taken us out of the studio and into some really interesting places, like our distribution and fulfillment centers and to the very end of our merchandise food chain, to our Last Chance stores. We've also shared several really great customer experiences on The Nordy Pod, including a bit of negative feedback. Overall, it's been a really fun year and we're really proud of what we've been able to put together, so we hope you enjoy this special look back at The Nordy Pod in 2023. Thanks for tuning in to episode 51. We hope you enjoy it! Did you know that YOU can be on The Nordy Pod? This show isn't just a one-way conversation. EPISODE 240: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: One of Trump's stochastic terrorists went to Barack Obama's house to assassinate him. Anybody else notice this, or was it just me? And that a Washington judge was having a hard time last night finding an excuse to hold him without bail? Hold the WOULD-BE ASSASSIN without bail? And that Trump had doxxed Obama and finally found a sucker willing to do his bidding for him? AND park his van full of ammo and weapons a few blocks from Obama's home. AND livestreamed himself threatening Jamie Raskin and Kevin McCarthy and oh he was going to take his van to Maryland to a federal facility containing a nuclear research reactor and blow up the van and the nuclear reactor and… I mean am I the only one seeing this anywhere? Trump – crazier and more dangerous by the minute – is finally clearly and inextricably linked to a guy ready to answer Trump's constant drumbeat to try to get one of his cultists to kill, without TELLING them to kill and thus leaving himself open to prosecution FOR killing or incitement-to-kill, and the Department of Justice remains asleep at the switch. The US Magistrate Judge in DC, Zia M. Faruqui managed to avoid having to release Trump's figurative flying monkey – his name is Taylor Taranto – by keeping him in stir overnight and putting the onus on the government to answer the judge's question: if the original charges against this would-be political murderer Taranto were simply left over trespassing accusations from January 6th, and the government wanted him held without bail because he's a flight risk, what if the Judge finds he's NOT a flight risk? Is it enough that threatening key Democratic and Republican congressmen and talking about going to a government nuclear reactor and blowing up your van next to – oh and responding to one former president's publishing of another former president's address by going there with a van full of weapons of death – is THAT quote “clear convincing evidence” of a danger to the public and even if it is, does that mean the judge can really hold him in jail? Yeah, you guys let Taranto loose while the lot of you argue over how many angels can dance on the head of this proverbial pin, and, you know, if he goes back to Obama's neighborhood or, I dunno, tries to ram the White House with his van while screaming “TRUMP IS GOD” as he does so, maybe then prosecutors can indict him for various vehicular and parking offenses. B-Block (20:00) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Miles Taylor says Trump negotiated with Erik Prince to form his own private mercenary army to dispatch to Afghanistan and Venezuela; RFK needs money more than power; Steve Bass's new horizon; farewell to Dr. Frank Field and Marvin Kitman. (25:50) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Laura Ingraham wants to defund Jack Smith. How about demoting him to 7 PM? The warmest day since July 4, 122,977 BC. And GQ Magazine first neuters a piece that offended David Zaslav of Warner BROS, then kills the piece completely, then it turns out GQ's Editor is producing a film FOR WARNER BROS. C-Block (34:10) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Angelina, L'il Bit and Prince in Georgia (35:20) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Nothing makes me smile more than a week with July 4th in the middle. It's because of that kind of calendar that I got my first network job just 44 years ago. The holiday ate up nearly all the business days they would've had to look for anybody besides me! As heads of Vogue and GQ, two of the world's leading fashion and lifestyle magazines, Anna Wintour and Will Welch are essentially gatekeepers at the intersection of art, fashion, culture, sports, business and everything in between. Anna, quite literally a legend in the business, is famous for championing exciting new designers and ushering new trends to the forefront of public attention. And Will, an incredibly talented writer and editor, has deservedly risen through the ranks of GQ, reinventing their image and business practices on a global scale. In our conversation we discuss the radical evolution of the fashion industry from highbrow to accessible, the incredibly fast-paced nature of digital trends and what Anna and Will believe makes a great fashion house leader. I've been lucky enough to know Anna and Will personally and have immense respect for both of them and their influence on our industry. I know you're going to enjoy hearing the insights of these amazing tastemakers. So, let's get into it! Thanks for tuning in to episode 37. We hope you enjoy it! In a special edition, we're joined by the new editorial leaders of GQ. Established in 1957, the iconic men's fashion and style title has a global reach of 10m in print, and over 50m online. Joining from New York is global editorial director Will Welch; and from London, deputy global editorial director Adam Baidawi. Will was previously the editor of GQ America; and Adam was previously editor of GQ Middle East, moving from Dubai to London to take the role. Both newly-promoted to deliver publisher Condé Nast's new digital-first strategy, the pair immediately made their mark with a special issue - in which 17 of the brand's international editions joined forces to simultaneously publish The Weeknd on September's cover. In this in-depth interview, they pay tribute to Dylan Jones who left the UK editor's chair after 22 years; share their plans to “harness the power of global unity” and end the era of local editions “competing” against one another for stories and interviews; and share insight from their strategic pivot to digital - with the “physical glossy magazine” always being “the shining diamond at the center of what we do.”

In this episode of the Thyroid Answers Podcast, I discuss how life stress impacts our lives. We discuss how we can help people make positive steps to improve their health and quality of life.  What is the role of a health coach? Why making health changes are so difficult? Why simple changes are not always easy? How does the stress of change affect our ability to make progress in health changes? What are some of the biggest obstacles that people face around change? Why are work and stress such a critical piece of this puzzle? What are some of the things that people can do "at home" to make change less stressful?   Will Welch is a board-certified functional health coach and leadership development coach and co-founder of WELL Leaders, a company that helps leaders prioritize wellbeing as a foundation of effective leadership. With decades of experience in the science and practice of health and leadership development at top universities and Fortune 1000 companies, Will has combined health coaching with his experience developing global organizations to bring leaders the best of both areas. The conversation that I had with Will Welch above would have been hugely satisfying if it were just him and I had it over a breakfast meeting at Lafayette. The fact that we could share it as a podcast really makes me happy. I greatly enjoy deep conversations with people where we go beyond the surface level small talk. Obviously, small talk is not the point of a podcast, but sometimes I think it’s difficult to truly get people to open up and be real. This wasn’t the case with Will and it never is. He’s the super talented guy who’s also loyal, kind, and accessible. As the person running GQ Will could be unapproachable and walled off. He’s the opposite. To say it’s refreshing is an understatement. To me, it’s one of those situations where the person you want to get the big break gets it and you feel like a part of you won too. In the post-general-interest magazine era —where the publishing world is incredibly convoluted, I look at what Will is doing with GQ and it gives me hope. We need more good editorial in the world and less “content”. We need more people like Will and more of a focus on quality as the magazine advocates in the new issue. We need to be willing to accept the idea that hard decisions about our lives and to the fashion system need to be made if we are going to confront climate change. They are a fashion magazine advocating buying better but buying less. That’s a huge deal and any brand that has an issue with that is likely part of the problem. As I said in the podcast, it’s cool to align with GQ on the concept of buy better, buy less. Despite all of the bad things that are happening in the world, I’m encouraged that some of the concepts I’ve been talking about since the early days of ACL are taking on a new form. It feels like the right time to be writing again and the perfect time to be talking to Will. I hope you enjoy our conversation. Colin Kaepernick rides the pine (which makes sense on many levels). Donald Trump visits Mexico. Hillary Clinton squares off with the AltRight. A few things remain unclear: Will our heroes ever get around to the oft promised discussion of 'private prisons'? Will Welch learn to properly operate the clock in the studio? Will Mexico pay for the wall? Will Moynihan finally learn how to 'Dab'? Andrew Kirell of the Daily Beast sits in for the hour. "What a Time to Be Alive" is an above average album, "Views" was disappointing. The third installment of, “Hey, Cool Job!” is with GQ style editor, Will Welch. He's lovely, with a soothing Southern vibe (which you'll hear in his accent) and you'll also notice that we're trying out this very high-concept, newfangled thing where I introduce each guest to give you a little extra context. I won't belabor what a GQ Magazine is because most of you already know but if you have any curiosity as to how these fools got their swank-ass jobs, maybe POD number 3 will lend a little insight. MAYBE NOT. Dun dun DUUUUUUUUUUN.
