I 1997 bhí Ronan Loughnane, as Teampall Mór, ar an chlár teilifís Know Your Sport. Bhí sé ar fheabhas ar an chlár agus chuaigh sé chuig an chéad eagrán eile. I 1999 stop na nGardaí in Aonach Urmhumhan 17 mbó a bheith mharaithe. Cheap siad go raibh siad iompórtáilte ó Thuaisceart na hÉireann go mídhleathach. *"Nothing Compares To You " a 35 ans aujourd'hui : retour sur l'épisode qui lui était consacré.

This is a scandalous episode, Slackers! While we see a new scandal hit the news seemingly every day, this is nothing new. This week I take a look at the biggest scandals of the 70's, 80's, and 90's.There are tawdry affairs, criminal activities, murder, mayhem and much more!Names like Madonna, Jane Fonda, Roman Polanski, Jerry Seinfeld - and yes, even way back in the 90's, Sean Combs - they all had their fair share of scandals making the front page news. To think that back then “social media” was really the paparazzi, evening news, and the TV tabloids like Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition. Imagine how many things didn't make the news!Don't forget to subscribe to the show. Find me on social media - https://linktr.ee/stuckinthemiddleagenxpod

Hey, Slackers. No witty one liners this week - just taking some time to honor those Gen Xers that have passed away this year.Athletes, musicians, actors, all notable in some way - but more importantly - they were one of ours. Regardless of the reasons for their passing - addiction, illness, or freak accident - the one thing that is abundantly clear is that they were all far too young.May they all rest in peace.
In this episode, we dive into the realms of sound, visuals, and music with three extraordinary guests who have left an indelible mark on their respective fields. Kevin Armstrong's brand new book is called Absolute Beginner: Memoirs of the World's Best Least-Known Guitarist.David Bowie said of Armstrong, “Kevin does what I pretend to do. Kevin's a proper musician.” Iggy Pop said, “Kevin Armstrong has been around, and around.” In the early 80s, Armstrong signed to EMI Records as a solo artist, but fate had other plans for him. He's gone on to carve out a career as a producer, songwriter, and guitarist, performing live and recording with Thomas Dolby, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Paul McCartney, Roy Orbison, Morrissey, Sinead O'Connor, and many, many more. In Absolute Beginner, Armstrong takes us into the backstage world of the artists he's worked with for over 40 years, what it's like to have a prime seat at the high table of rock and roll for over 40 years, and what it takes to survive as a self-taught musician. Kevin has had quite a career and he's here to tell us all about it!Purchase a copy of Absolute Beginner: Memoirs of the World's Best Least-Known Guitarist through Jawbone Press HERE. Beside Nothing Compares. Speciale dedicato a Sinead O'Connor con gioielli sommersi tratti dagli album e dalle collaborazioni con Roger Waters, Peter Gabriel e i Massive Attack.
Myf and Zan wake to the sad news of Sinead O'Connor's death, and reflect on her power, her protest, and her extraordinary voice which lifted us and gave a voice to so many without one. Barbie has made history at the box office, with Greta Gerwig pulling in the biggest opening weekend by a female film director ever. But some conservative are in an absolute tizz about it. Meanwhile Myf's questions are finally answered as Vanity Fair launches an investigation into why movies are so long. And we dig into celebrity skin culture, another way women are hamstrung by the cycle of beauty, expectations, and “fixing” ourselves. It's been a big week of high and low brow too, with Zan raving about a great book of essays and Myf bingeing on a true crime podcast about a very specific crime. We got you, always. First, Mayor Stothert lays out her reasons for budgeting more for public safety in Omaha. Then, a supporter of Nebraska's Opportunity Scholarships asks you NOT to sign the petition about it. Then, after Lucy and I discuss the interesting life and career of Sinead O'Connor, Patriotic Productions' Bill Williams invites you to Saturday's Korean War remembrance (not controversial), and next month's Riley Gaines appearance in Omaha (VERY controversial!).
It's summer in Dublin and we have just the cure for those rain soaked blues. From Icelandic encounters en route to what used to be JJ Smyths, to the race between the Dalymount evolution and Armageddon. The well dressed Gary Cronin brings us some current affairs while Ciaran Kilduff delves into his bank of European memories while Johnny struggles to remember what is even happening next week. We have KD Lang v Sinead O Connor, fantasy five-a-sides, the age old TV debate and a group of sponsors still willing to support this malarkey. Yes, a big shout to Collar and Cuff, Future Ticketing and Rascals Brewery for making it to episode 22 and a bigger one to Johnny for remembering it!
I recently saw the Sinead O'Connor documentary, which I loved, even if it was a bit too hagiographic and programmatic for my tastes. It reminded me of this chat Sinead and I had in 2000, or thereabouts, and that includes,m arguably, a deeper look at the music that made her and why. So I am re-posting this.

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, we revisit the 30th anniversary of one of the most memorable dramas recounting one of the darker periods in the ongoing conflict between the Irish and the British in the 20th Century. This is the unforgettable story of Gerry Conlon, a young man from Belfast who was wrongly convicted and imprisoned for orchestrating the IRA bombing of a British pub in 1974, which resulted in several deaths. His father Guiseppe is also imprisoned and we watch as father and son battle to earn their freedom along with getting to know each other - Gerry is played by Daniel Day-Lewis and Guiseppe is played by Pete Posthelwaite, both of whom earned Oscar nominations. Also earning nominations were Emma Thompson who co-stars as the lead attorney representing the Conlons and the director of the film, Jim Sheridan.Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Rock & Roll, Slackers! We all know that rock music changed in 1991 - 1992. Grunge was this weird mix of rock, punk, and alternative music. So what was happening in mainstream rock and alternative music before the Grunge explosion?I pulled up the rock and alternative charts of 1990. I don't what I was expecting...maybe lots of hair bands on one and weirdo underground stuff on the other? Surprisingly, that was not exactly the case. Some bands made both lists, while others were certainly placed in their "genre"...whatever that means. The question I have is: can you really be "alternative" and a hugely successful act on a major label? Was British & Australian mainstream rock just considered alternative in the states? And who remembers that the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, and Rod Stewart all were still churning out hits in the 90s? (not me)Subscribe to the podcast!

What is up, Slackers?! While it has often been said that rock music has been a male dominated industry, there have been so many amazing women who have broken through the glass (rock?) ceiling. On this episode I discuss some of my favorites, with the simple parameters of:1. The music needed to have been composed in my lifetime OR 2. Created by actual Gen X artists. As it turns out, some of the GREAT female voices of all time come from our generation, and frankly, I'm not surprised. But rest assured, I don't ignore some of the superstars of my youth and their prominent places in the pantheon of musical greats. Be forewarned, I only discuss artists that would be defined as “rock”, “metal”, "punk" or “alternative” musicians.Who are your favorite female rockers? Let me know in the comments or on social media!
