PUBLIC VERSION. Legendary actor and horror icon Robert Englund (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, V: THE FINAL BATTLE, STRANGER THINGS, HATCHET, BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen for a wonderful conversation about his 50 year journey through Hollywood and his lifelong love affair with cinema. From the importance of film festivals and why every filmmaker needs to experience seeing their work with an audience whenever possible… to why he thinks Montreal is the best city to visit in the summer… to shooting by international candlelight… to why he adores Lance Henriksen… to how he considers taking on new projects and how he's held on to his love of acting for half a century… to why he believes a director's ability to command a room with their unabashed passion is the very key to securing a production's budget… to why the modern deluge of streaming content is giving today's audiences “entertainment fatigue”… to what he felt went wrong behind the scenes of his directorial effort 976-EVIL… to his process behind becoming “Victor Creel” and his season stealing performance in Netflix's monster hit STRANGER THINGS… to the emotional experience of seeing the new documentary HOLLYWOOD DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES: THE ROBERT ENGLUND STORY (now on Screambox and available for digital rental/purchase) for the very first time at the Sitges International Film festival in Spain… to deeply personal stories about how Robert has been one of Adam's cinematic angels in his journey as a filmmaker… this is an extremely candid conversation with Robert Englund that you simply won't hear anywhere else. You can hear all of Robert's greatest hits and “Freddy” stories in the awesome new documentary, in his 2009 autobiography HOLLYWOOD MONSTER, and in the phenomenally comprehensive NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET documentary NEVER SLEEP AGAIN… but this truly special fly on the wall conversation between three filmmakers (who are still just movie fans themselves) is something you can only get from THE MOVIE CRYPT.

Ten years after the first A Nightmare On Elm Street, writer/director Wes Craven returned to his legacy and gave us a fresh tale where the horror of the Nightmare films seep into the real world and menace the cast and crew of the original film. This film works on a lot of different levels. A few missteps were made. Marc from The Toys of Time Gone By joins me to discuss the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I had not seen it since it came out and thought it was time to revisit it. Was it as bad as I remember? We also discuss a recent article from Screen Rant about how tough it will be to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street. The spectre of a disfigured man haunts the children of the parents who murdered him, stalking and killing them in their dreams. Never Sleep Again. All you have to do is dream... Welcome to Your New Nightmare. He knows where you sleep.
Odds and Ends: T.J. continues his horror homework and just finished the rest of the Nightmare on Elm Street series (as well as the documentaries "Never Sleep Again" and "Scream, Queen!"), then runs down some bullet points on the movies and just what makes them so special Feature Film: To cap off our month of terror, we talk the most horrific movie we've covered so far - "Bedeviled," a not-played out story of kids and their cell phones and how that's bad, definitely not written by people too old and unhip to write a story about teenagers. Kids get killed off by an evil app, what else do I need to say? Oh, Saxon Sharbino. In this week's episode I'll be discussing the various aspects of the Elm Street fandom and how they've impacted me to showcase my own love of the franchise. FredHeads come from various backgrounds, creeds, races, gender identities, and sexual orientations. The franchise has also produced an unlimited amount of merchandise, some that is still being manufactured today, while others have gone out of print or entered rarity territory. Several acclaimed documentaries have spawned from the franchise as well. A comprehensive doc in Never Sleep Again, and some detailing personal studies of the actors involved, like I Am Nancy and Scream, Queen… In total, the Elm Street fanbase is just as vast as the close to 40 years of merch. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

It took British director Peter Yates and Yugoslavian screenwriter Steve Tesich, born Stojan Tešić, to tell the quintessential American coming of age story Breaking Away from 1979. The film was set and shot in Bloomington, Indiana where Tesich's family emigrated to when he was a teenager and tells a story based on a bicyclist Tesich befriended during his time racing for Indiana University. For his efforts, the screenwriter received the Academy Award for Best Screenplay and the Golden Globe for Best Film (Comedy or Musical). Dan and Vicky take a look at this seminal sports film from the 70's and discuss how the nostalgic glow it casts put them in a good mood. Not so good is the tumble Vicky took after seeing Dan's show -- you'll hear all about it -- and the cranky audience reaction to The Walking Dead finale -- Dan and Vicky give us their two cents. They also read their FIRST viewer letter (!), talk about the movies and TV shows they've been watching lately (including 1983's The Entity and the The Nightmare on Elm Street doc Never Sleep Again), and boogie to some classic disco. Come along for the ride with Vicky and Dan on Hot Date #26.

Attack of the Killer Soundtrack - Episode 27 This week we welcome our special guest co-host Dr. Gangrene to be our DJ of heavy metal horror movies. We let the Doctor run wild as we assemble our own epic soundtrack built from the metal-themed movies that ruled the 80's! And as we discuss the "Satanic Panic" that took hold of the country, we also mention... the greatest WTF ending, a three-dimensional VHS cover, you've gotta see the zombie march, swatting a fly, which brings them back... to battle Hitler and his minions, VH1, a rocker that comes back from the dead to get revenge on the people who did him wrong, congress brought rock and rollers in there, wizards, Never Sleep Again, singing lyrics from the book, it was a magical thing, Metal Mania, this movie's nuts, guitar punk, a werewolf, skateboarding, a love story aliens invading zombies... it's got it all, like bumpy, that whole time period and everything that was going on, this movie's got it all, a band of demons... trying to steal the souls of the kids in the town, while this is going on there's a subplot of a slasher going around killing people, I've met Thor, I know Thor... I'm friends with Thor, garagey and trashy, once we were done with heavy metal it's like other cultures picked it up and started doing their own thing with it, in a functioning video store, smart-assed comments, Eva Braun, because the 80's was... the 80's, It's in the songs... it's in the movie, Splatter, that's the way to ring in the new year, playing a cassette tape and then this band comes along... and then demons. "I think we've gotta start with... what I call the Citizen Kane of heavy metal horror movies." For more on Dr. Gangrene, go to: http://drgangrene.blogspot.com/

Part 2 of this episode finds John and Scott taking a walk down Elm Street, getting Spaced and jumping sharks with Buffy. 00:01:00 - John remembers the good old days of New Line Cinema, and how the economy plus a few bad decisions have all but killed such a great company. 00:05:04 - The Dark Knight gets mentioned, leading to a condemnation of the Academy Awards and their recent behavior. 00:18:26 - John is excited about the documentary, Never Sleep Again. This leads to discussions about the Elm Street franchise, the remake and the potential effectiveness of dream sequences in Horror films. 00:41:22 - Why are all these movie studios going through financial bankruptcy? It could have something to do with their creative bankruptcy. 00:47:00 - Scott pulls his hair out over how much good TV there is to watch. Fringe gets brought up, as well as Vampire Diaries, shockingly. Also, we here at the podcast are head over heels for Edgar Wright's series, Spaced. 00:56:44 - If you love something, let it go. This applies to TV shows, especially ones that have become comic books. Buffy is discussed here. 01:04:05 - John closes this episode by guilting the listeners for emails and iTunes reviews. Also, Scott nearly chokes to death on his beverage. The following artists can be heard in this episode: Amanda Wyss & Heather Langenkamp & Nick Corri, The Divinyls, Clint Mansell, Glee Cast, Charles Bernstein, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Angelo Badalamenti, Craig Safan, The Goo Goo Dolls, Sinead O'Connor, Dramarama, Billy Idol, Shiny Toy Guns, Fatboy Slim, Slowdive, Alan Silvestri and 213.
Ceej and Rob are back and are excited to have made it to their second 21st episode and decide to bring you over 2 hours of drunken retardedness. Rob goes off on the new "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (spoilers) and discusses the fantastic documentary "Never Sleep Again" while Ceej wants to tool around in the Cravenmobile. Ceej tells tales of Gilliam while Rob tells tales of midget porn. They take a moment of silence for THE FAHEY™ and then they discuss just what what the fuck is wrong on the island. And then, drunken VOICEMAIL!

If Jason still haunts you...you're not alone. Our big unstoppable hunk is dead and buried but (bad news!) there's a new masked madman on the scene, and here's not about to let this new crop of kids go unmurdered.Let's face it, Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning is the black sheep of the franchise. It may boast one of the highest body counts, and some of the most graphic deaths (sadly, all butchered by the MPAA) but it just doesn't have Jason. That doesn't mean you should cast this divisive, experimental entry aside, however. There's still plenty to love about A New Beginning, including a boatload of goofy characters and a dude who gets his head squished like a watermelon

It doesn't matter what you're afraid of- there is a Disney movie out there somewhere that wants to bring your nightmares to life. Join your horror hosts Kim & Jon as they revisit Ray Bradbury's carnival ride of kindertrauma: Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's a movie filled with creepy sideshows, trippy mirror mazes, and Pam Grier as a haunting, ethereal black widow. This may be a Disney movie but it's a Dark Ass Disney, and it is nightmare fodder for all ages. Young and old, big and small, Something Wicked This Way Comes is a three-ring circus of freaks, frights, and fancy-speaking villains that feed on your suffering. Join your horror hosts Kim & Jon as they discuss Out There Halloween Mega Tape with filmmakers Chris & Melissa LaMartina. This fun little oddity is a spiritual brother to WNUF Halloween Special and it's also chockfull of zany commercials, surreal tv spots, and a special bootleg presentation of the now infamous Out There Halloween special from 1996. More than that, Out There Halloween Mega Tape is an immersive indie film experience, painstakingly crafted by the LaMartinas themselves. Hear all about how they made this unique movie in the heart of the pandemic and distributed it themselves through Trader Tony's Tape Dungeon, and how Melissa created her horror host alter ego Aurora Gorealis, all on this edition of HalloweenTastic edition of Nightmare Alley.
