When 37-year-old Christine Banfield and 39-year-old Joseph Ryan were found fatally injured inside a Virginia home in 2023, investigators were initially told that Ryan was a violent intruder and that Christine's husband, Brendan Banfield, a federal agent, had tried to save her. But as investigators examined digital evidence, they uncovered a different possibility: that Ryan had been lured to the home through a fake online persona and that the scene had been staged to conceal a double homicide. What happened in the 15 minutes between two 911 calls? And what does the evidence reveal about the story investigators were first told? The Tim Conway Jr. Show Hour 4 (6.18) Conway kicks off the hour with new overnight rules at San Diego beaches, where the beaches may not be fully shut down at night, but more than 35 coastal parking lots now face strict closures and time limits. The goal is to cut down on nighttime crime and overnight vehicle habitation, but it raises the classic California question: can we still enjoy the beach after dark? Then the crew jumps into the exploding world of podcasts. Spotify has listed the best podcasts in the world, and Conway asks the big question: everyone has a podcast now... but why? The show breaks down the top 10 trending podcasts in the U.S., covering everything from comedy and true crime to daily news, business, history, and celebrity interviews. From The Joe Rogan Experience and Crime Junkie to The Daily, Theo Von, Call Her Daddy, SmartLess, Dateline NBC, Stuff You Should Know, The Diary of A CEO, and The Rest Is History, the crew asks: do you actually listen to any of these? The hour wraps with the latest L.A. housing trend, as more Angelenos leave core Los Angeles for Long Beach and Santa Ana in search of lower rent and more space. But with longer commutes, rising costs, and each city’s own housing pressures, the big question is whether moving really solves the problem — or just changes the ZIP code. Alberta O. Jones was breaking barriers in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the first Black woman prosecutor in the city's history, she helped register some 6,000 Black citizens to vote, and she was a leader in the city's civil rights movement. But on Aug. 5, 1965 – before she could make even more changes in the highly segregated city – Alberta was found dead floating in the Ohio River. The night before, she reluctantly went out late to visit a close friend, setting off a 60-year mystery that has led to more questions than answers. Was Alberta killed in a random robbery? Was she set up by her best friend? Or was she targeted for her dangerous civil rights work? If you have any information about the death of Alberta O. Jones, you can contact the Louisville Metro Police Department's Cold Case Squad at 502-574-7055, or you can email us directly at tips@audiochuck.com. In July 1984, Clarence and Marjorie Paulson, father and daughter, were reported missing from their home in Minnesota. At first glance, sheriff's deputies didn't see any obvious signs of a struggle. Marjorie and Clarence didn't have driver's licenses, and the three-wheeler Clarence used to travel was still at his house. Marjorie's purse and knitting needles were left behind. Neighbors didn't offer much of an explanation about where they'd gone – the two were considered reclusive, but known to travel into town every so often. But a closer examination of the home revealed more to the story. And six years after reported missing, detectives found the unthinkable. Anyone with information about the death of Marjorie and Paulson should call Crime Stoppers of Minnesota: 800-222-8477, or the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension tip line is 1-877-996-6222. What happens when HR tech giants crush earnings while the rest of the industry faces massive layoffs? In this special episode of The Chad & Cheese Podcast, Joel Cheesman is joined by guest co-host J.T. O'Donnell to deliver a dose of optimistic realism on the chaotic state of the 2026 job market. Before diving into the heavy-hitting industry news, the duo kicks things off with plenty of humor, swapping banter over deviled egg recipes, Memorial Day cookout plans, upcoming European travel, and why Southwest Airlines is making headlines with a strict new ban on humanoid robots. They also share a quick streaming recommendation for Apple TV's Your Friends and Neighbors and give a nod to the Crime Junkies podcast before getting down to business. The core of the episode spotlights a deeply divided job market where massive tech layoffs collide with explosive corporate growth. Joel and J.T. break down the staggering down-sizing trends hitting Meta and LinkedIn, contrasting those cuts with the massive, expectation-shattering earnings report just released by Recruit Holdings, the parent company of Indeed and Glassdoor. J.T. lends her expertise to LinkedIn's aggressive new strategy to launch thousands of gated, paid creator-led virtual events to combat generic platform "slop." Finally, the hosts look at the changing face of automation, analyzing how artificial intelligence is shifting call center dynamics abroad, and exploring Amazon's eerie new Alexa capability that generates fully synthetic podcasts on demand.
On Black Friday 2016, 22-year-old Christopher “Cole” Thomas was driving through rural North Carolina with two coworkers. Hours later, the coworkers approached police and said Cole had suddenly panicked, pulled over, and ran into the dark, never to be seen again. But their story later changed. Surveillance footage showed Cole was not alone. Phone data appeared to place the group at the scene of a late-night drug deal that went wrong. And somehow, the only person who disappeared was Cole. In the years since, multiple men have been arrested, questioned, and released, but no one has been charged with his disappearance. His body has not been found. And despite conflicting statements, investigators believe someone knows exactly what happened that night. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Benson Police Department at 919-894-2091 or info@bensonpd.org. You can also call the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation at 919-779-8188. In the fall of 1991, just as the season was starting to change, a couple fishing at sunrise at a small lake in Fayetteville, North Carolina, noticed something floating near the surface of the water. At first, they thought it was a blow-up doll. But upon closer inspection, the couple saw hair on the legs and realized it wasn't a doll. It was a human being—a person who would be identified as 24-year-old Jimmy Riddle. Jimmy was also known to some of their friends as Jamie, but how much their identity played into their death isn't clear. What the police have to go on are potential witness statements, items left at the crime scene, and maybe, just maybe, DNA. Nearly 35 years after Riddle's killing, there's a new detective on the case…a detective determined to unearth the answers once and for all. If you know anything about the murder of Jimmy or Jamie Riddle in Fayetteville, North Carolina, please call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1529. You can also call Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers with tips at 910-483-8477. Anonymous tips for an open/unsolved case through Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crimestoppers could receive up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. Please note: While writing this episode, our team worked with trans sensitivity readers and editors to ensure that we address Riddle's episode and this topic with respect. Spencer Irwin was just 30 years old when he vanished one Sunday morning in July 2024. Days later, his body was found in a way that raised questions – naked, alone and quickly dismissed by authorities. But their assumptions about Spencer were wrong. As his mother began asking questions, the answers she received only raised more red flags: no autopsy, missing belongings and a timeline full of gaps no one seemed interested in filling. When toxicology results came back, they didn't just complicate the story, they began to unravel it. Refusing to accept a conclusion that didn't add up, Spencer's mother launched her own investigation. What she uncovered was deeply unsettling. As new witnesses came forward and experts weighed in, one thing became clear — the case may have been written off too soon. The truth is buried somewhere, waiting to be uncovered. If you have any information regarding the mysterious death of Spencer Irwin, you can contact the Fresno Police Department directly at 559-621-7000 or anonymously through Valley Crime Stoppers by texting ‘VALLEY' to 738477. Our card this week is Tonya Teske, the 2 of Spades from Idaho. This week, we're resurfacing an important old episode for you because we just learned more information about a person of interest who's never been ruled out. His name is Mark Douglas Burns, and he's a terrifying individual. He came up in a Crime Junkie episode we dropped in the fan club in which Burns confessed to murdering a young mom in her home back in 2001. And the overlaps between him and Tonya's last known movements cannot be ignored. Re-listen to today's episode closely... and then go check out the episode on Sue Gunderson Higgins in the Crime Junkie Fan club and tell me what you think. Could Mark be the missing link? Tonya Teske was a free-spirited 18-year-old who chose to live her life on the open road by hitchhiking around the mountain west. On August 13, 1997, she was last seen in Montana at a truck stop before her body was discovered two days later on the side of a highway in Idaho. If you have any information about Tonya's murder, you're asked to call the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office at 208-529-1200. On May 4, 2007, 19-year-old Brittany McGlone did something she rarely did. Instead of going home after work, she went to her boyfriend's house. By that afternoon, she was found dead in his bed, brutally beaten. She was naked, and her underwear was missing from the scene. In the home's only bathroom, investigators found signs the killer may have showered before leaving. There were no signs of forced entry or robbery, only a small circle of people who knew she would be there. More than 15 years later, one man was arrested, but he was later released and walked free. Someone still knows what happened in that house. Brittany McGlone's family received a Season of Justice grant. In 2025, they put up a billboard near Winnsboro, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, asking for tips. It is scheduled to come down soon, which is why this episode is being released now, so the family's plea for help can be heard not just in Wood County, but around the world. Anyone with information can remain anonymous by calling Wood County Crime Stoppers at 903-760-1008 or contacting the Wood County Sheriff's Office at 903-763-2201. The Melissa Casias case keeps unraveling, and the more we learn, the less anything makes sense. New details have emerged about the strange woman who showed up at Sierra's job to deliver $50 in graduation money, and the trail leads to a confusing tangle of mismatched names. Meanwhile, the family fracture has only widened, with a private investigator turning up the heat and the FBI now stepping in. Was Mark's theory about a subcontractor closer to the truth than anyone realized? Or is this just another dead end in a case that refuses to stay still? If you have any information about Melissa's disappearance, please contact New Mexico State Police at 505-425-6771. Did you know you can listen to this episode ad-free? Join the Fan Club! Our card this week is Nefertiri "Neffie" Trader, the Queen of Hearts from Delaware. In the early hours of June 30th, 2014, 33-year-old Nefertiri, who went by “Neffie”, was kidnapped from her own front yard. In the dark, she was dragged into her car, away from the townhome she shared with her mom and three children. Even though Neffie's kidnapping was witnessed, it would be almost nineteen hours before police learned that Neffie was missing. After an investigation failed to find out what happened to Neffie, a Delaware court declared her legally dead. But her body has still never been found. Could the identity of Neffie's kidnapper lie with friends she saw hours before she vanished? Or is the suspect a convicted killer out for revenge? If you have any information about the disappearance of Nefertiri Trader, you can contact the New Castle County Police Department at their non-emergency number, which is 302-573-2800. Or you can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. View source material and photos for this episode at: thedeckpodcast.com/nefertiri-neffie-trader Let us deal you in… follow The Deck on social media. In June 2025, Melissa Casias dropped her husband off at work in Los Alamos, New Mexico… then did something nobody expected. She turned around and drove home. By that afternoon, she had vanished, leaving behind her wallet, her keys, both of her personal phones wiped to factory settings, and a family already splitting in two over what to believe. Her husband, Mark, insists she walked away on her own. Her parents and siblings are certain something far worse happened to her. Surveillance video proves she was alive walking along Highway 518 that day. But where she went next - and why - is a question that only deepens the further you pull at it. In this episode Jeff tears apart the latest assassination attempt against Donald Trump and the staggering security failures that allowed it to happen. From an armed suspect getting dangerously close to the president to the laughable claims that the system “worked” Jeff explains why this was a complete disgrace and why the response afterward was even worse. Jeff then breaks down the war with Iran and how what started with clear objectives quickly unraveled. Bad advice, unrealistic expectations and a fundamental misunderstanding of the enemy have led to a situation where Iran is now dictating terms. Trump's focus on markets and public perception over actual victory has turned a position of strength into an avoidable mess. The bigger problem is what this moment represents. Jeff argues this was likely the last real chance to cripple the world's leading terror regime and instead the United States blinked. The result is a stronger more emboldened enemy and a future that looks far more dangerous than it needed to be. Receive new episodes directly in your inbox: https://beyondthelegallimit.com/subscribe

In the summer of 1969, Stephanie Casberg walked out the front door of a Milwaukee restaurant after her waitressing shift — and was never seen alive again. Days later, her dismembered remains were found near a condemned bridge along the Root River, leaving investigators with a chilling conclusion: the work of someone methodical, skilled and patient. More than five decades later, the case has led detectives from a co-worker who lied his way into the narrative to a convicted child predator who terrorized his family by claiming to be the killer. More recently, a Crime Junkie episode playing through a detective's earbuds while he mowed his lawn added a new name to the case file. If you have any information about the murder of Stephanie Casberg, contact the Racine County Sheriff's Office at 262-636-3225. In March 1999, 22-year-old Lindsay Wells was reported missing from her Simi Valley home, where she lived with her fiancé and his mother. Since she was reported missing, police have fielded sightings of Lindsay near a Simi Valley 7-Eleven, buying a train ticket headed to Tijuana, and at Disneyland, but these tips never yielded a lead. Since then, the case developments have included work with a psychic medium, an undercover wire operation, and searches with cadaver dogs. Lindsay remains missing. Our card this week is Marjorie "Christy" Lunda, the 4 of Spades from Florida. In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we are sharing the story of Marjorie “Christy” Luna to honor her life and amplify the voices of survivors. From the outside, Greenacres seemed like a picture-perfect place to grow up — where kids roamed barefoot between the park, school, and corner store. But beneath that storybook setting, something darker was unfolding, and it came to a head one May evening in 1984 when Christy disappeared. More than 40 years later, her friends are revisiting their childhood memories, uncovering how abuse and violence can exist in plain sight — often hidden or left unspoken. By sharing Christy's story during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we hope to raise awareness, support survivors, and remind others that their voices matter. If you or someone you know is a survivor of sexual assault, you can find confidential support at RAINN's National Sexual Assault Hotline. You can chat with them online, call 1-800-656-4673, or text HOPE to 64673. If you know anything about the disappearance of Marjorie “Christy” Luna in Greenacres, Florida, on May 27th, 1984, the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, please come forward. And if you had encounters with anyone named in the episode, or even similar encounters as described with men you didn't know, detectives want to hear from you, too. Perhaps you hold the missing piece to solving this mystery and putting a terrible person behind bars for whatever life they have left. On Feb. 23, 2020, 6-year-old Joseph “Jo-Jo” King III was found unresponsive at home with his stepfather. The initial explanation was simple: he had accidentally suffocated inside a toy chest. But the toy chest was not airtight. Parts of the scene were wet. And the autopsy was later amended to include “concern for possible homicidal drowning.” Still, the manner of death remains undetermined. Jo-Jo's stepfather is in prison for abusing him less than a year before his death, but no one has been charged in connection with how he died. So what really happened inside that house? At a busy campsite one summer night, Darrel “Bubba” Johnson Sr. says goodnight and zips up his tent. By sunrise, he's gone. No Bubba. Just a borrowed flashlight, a phone that pings but is never found, and stories that don't make much sense. Did Bubba wander off…or did something more sinister happen in the dark? In July 2015, Mary Yoder, a healthy 60-year-old chiropractor, went to work as usual. Later that day, she began feeling sick. Within 48 hours, she was dead. At first, her sudden decline seemed like a medical mystery. But investigators soon uncovered evidence of poisoning, launching a murder investigation that divided her family and the community. What appeared to be a clear path forward quickly grew more complicated. Detectives uncovered a digital trail they believed tied office manager Katie Conley to the purchase of the poison, setting off a high-stakes legal battle and creating new rifts among those closest to Mary. As people pointed fingers and different theories took hold, the case only grew more complicated, leaving questions about what really happened. Our card this week is Mason Worthington, the Wild Card from Virginia. In the early hours of December 30, 2018, deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office were called to the Penniman neighborhood of Williamsburg, initially for a report of shots fired. Then, they were called again: A 20-year-old had been fatally shot in his home. They spend the next several days talking to Mason's friends, searching for surveillance footage, and collecting evidence. Since then, investigators have canvassed the neighborhood, turning over every possible clue that might help piece together what happened on December 29, 2018. They believe they might be close to answers — as long as they're able to track down the man who might know what happened. Anyone with information can call the James City County Police Department at 757-890-3621or the Hampton Roads Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (5625-887). In 1981, a Harvard graduate student vanished after stepping out of Logan Airport the night after Thanksgiving. As investigators searched for answers, they focused on a suspect connected to another murder – a woman who was killed just two years earlier. He was convicted in one case and widely believed responsible for the other. But after reviewing thousands of pages of records, we found gaps that raise difficult questions: Was the wrong man blamed? And is the real killer still out there? Source materials for this episode cannot be listed here due to character limitations.
