In Episode 166,  Ben chats with Dr. Lauryn Toby,  Erica Ranade, and Dr Kristyn Peterson.  Trigger Warning: This episode discusses sensitive topics, including sexual harassment in conference, workplace, and academic settings. The content may be distressing to some listeners. If you find these topics triggering, please take care while listening or consider skipping this episode. Remember, if you or someone you know is affected by sexual harassment, support and resources are available. In Canada you can call the Sexual Violence Helpline: 1 888-933 9007 https://sexualviolencehelpline.ca/getting-help/sexual-violence-helpline/ In the USA you can call The National Sexual Assualt Telephone Hotline 1 800 656 HOPE  (4674) The original purpose of "Me Too" as used by Tarana Burke in 2006 was to empower women through empathy, especially young and vulnerable women. In October 2017, American actress, Alyssa Milano encouraged using the phrase as a hashtag to help reveal the extent of problems with sexual harassment and assault by showing how many people have experienced these events themselves. It therefore encourages women to speak up about their abuses, knowing that they are not alone. The movement spread beyond Hollywood calling out perpetrators in the music industry, sciences, academia, politics and even students in K-12 schools. So-called "whisper networks" have also formed where private lists of "people to avoid "are shared unofficially in nearly every major institution or industry where sexual harassment is common due to power imbalances, including government, media, news, and academia. These lists have the stated purpose of warning other workers in the industry and are shared from person to person, on forums, in private social media groups, and via spreadsheets.  (From: Wikipedia contributors. Technology, not love will conquer all. When you add this to future tech like artificial wombs, it's not hard to see how feminism is writing women out of existence. They have made themselves obsolete, who would have thought?" Well Nicholas thanks for the donation. You sent me an article called: "Scientists create mice with two fathers after making eggs from male cells" which I put a link to in the description. Scientists have been able to create mice with two biological fathers by generating eggs from male cells. We are on the cusp of a sexual revolution for men with things like virtual girlfriends, sexbots and we will reproduce without having whamen in our lives. Women already had theirs in the 1960s and 1970s and men let them have it. I don't think women are going to let us men have ours all the easily. They will fight men gaining equality in the sexual marketplace and eventually dominance. AI generated adult material is here and soon we will see virtual girlfriends, sexbots and the ability for men to reproduce without needing to have a girlfriend or wife. 2 male friends choose to reproduce and co-parent and the child's household will be a lot more stable. Two men paying for surrogacy won't be that expensive. The child will have a financial headstart and won't have to deal with as much drama in the household. The article says it could pave the way for two men to have their own biological child. But do you really think that gynocentric governments' are going to allow that to happen without a fight? Let's not be naive about it. The way to sell the technology would be to women first. Get old childless cougars that have delayed having children are now infertile to fight to push the science forward. If it does become available you know what will happen don't you Nicolas. Women will delay having children into their fifties or sixties when they should be grandmothers. But if they have those kids that will hopefully get us closer to replacement fertility so governments with collapsing populations may actually embrace it out of desperation. Ethics be damned. I would also get gay couples to fight to make this legal. So how is this possible? Katsuhiko Hayashi and Japan's Kyushi University has made two male mice have offspring and believes we are 1 decade to create viable eggs from human male skin cells. But unfortunately wha! for whamen science hasn't figured out how to make sperm from women's cells. So it will most likely be men that have the option to reproduce in this way. More realistically it's going to take 10 or 20 years for this to become a reality. Hayashi is in favour of this technology being used clinically to allow two men to have a baby if it were shown to be safe. But many of his colleagues believe that he's too optimistic and that we don't know enough to do this yet. I think that cloning will be something that shows up on the scene first because afterall we are able to clone pets right now. It's simple. You take dna from your cel and swap out the dna of an egg. Plus cloning is a sort of pseudo immortality. You live on or should I say your younger twin lives on. Given the choice between reproducing with another dudes' skin cells or cloning myself I would choose the clone and I would have a much more rewarding parenting experience raising a younger version of myself because I already know what I like. But the ethics of cloning would be a lot more complicated than those of two dudes having a child together. We were emotionally hardened by some sleepless nights before recording this special episode! A couple months ago, a brilliant podcast listener on Reddit published her predictions that Spring Energy's Awesomesauce gel had incorrect calorie counts. Three weeks ago, those findings were confirmed by a German lab. This past week, everything exploded on social media with all of Spring's gels listing fraudulent calorie totals, roping us into a situation that we never hope to relive. This episode talks about our emotions. We are furious about the mislabeling. We wish we could go back in time and tell ourselves that nutrition labels can list fraudulent calorie totals, and we wish we could undo the health and performance struggles that so many runners have felt due to the egregious mislabeling. We are sorry for our connections to Spring years ago, and we love you all. At the same time, love has limits. This past week pushed us to our emotional edge. It demonstrated some of the problems with social media and a society that can chase clout and clicks over kindness and nuanced facts. Podcast listeners got us through, and we are emerging with more compassion, more courage, and fewer f's to give. As Megan wrote, "Love to you all, especially to any woman who has dealt with a small man: may you become larger in who you authentically are." And we threw in a bunch of fun topics! Other topics: reflections from sleepless nights, Pride Month joy, lessons from some of the highest energy expenditures ever studied, women in coaching, Unbound Cycling and the success of multisport athletes in bike races, Kilian's legendary dominance at Zegama, a study on CBD in runners, running club romantic connections, our love of Park Runs, and hot takes. We finish with some Listener Corner messages that kept us going in a really hard time. We love you all! Yes, ALL. The world can be dark and scary, especially on social media, and we hope that we can help fill your lives with as much light and as many calories as possible. The stats speak for themselves. When it comes to published non-fiction, female writers are still at a disadvantage. Only 35% of non-fiction prizes are awarded to female writers. Just 26.5% of non-fiction book reviews go to women. Advances tend to be lower, and we're often left off end-of-year ‘bestseller lists'. Research shows that we're often told to ‘leave the big subjects to the men', too! However, the tide is slowly turning. Deep in the bowels of the publishing world, change is afoot. Women are no longer accepting this as the way things are. Bold new thought leaders are emerging. But there's still a long journey ahead.  And I'm determined to be part of it. It's why I've dedicated this episode to reminding you of the true benefits of writing that book you've been thinking about and how it can change your life - and your business - in ways you can't even imagine. Listen to discover: How writing a book clarifies what you stand for and helps to position yourself as an authority in your niche. Why your book is more than just a book - and how it can expand your business model, opening the door to collaborations and opportunities that can bring in more income. How stepping into thought leadership empowers you to believe in yourself and your message. Why now really is the time for female thought leaders to publish their books and own their space. Business book boys' club - be gone! And lots more! When your audience sees you confidently stepping into the space that only you can occupy, big things start to happen. And there's no better way of doing that than by bringing all your knowledge, expertise and experience into a business book. Let 2024 be the year you write yours. Enjoy! — “In my opinion, the problem with Christianity (and the Old Testament writings before Jesus) is that we have neglected our Mother Spirit, Sophia. She is clearly identified and discussed in the Bible but the writers and founders of Christianity (all men) have neglected to identify her as a centrical figure in our faith. Why were the early writers, the early Christian founders, and Christians of this day so offended by the idea of God being female? First, Western thinkers struggle with both/and. We like to compartmentalize everything into this box OR that box. We have a hard time understanding that God could be BOTH male and female. Ohhhh doesn't that come a little too close to identifying God as "gender fluid" and we don't like that one! But Eastern thinkers (Jesus, being one) easily embrace the idea of both/and. They easily recognize the yin and yang of most concepts in all things. This is called non-duality. They embrace the idea that two or more things can be true at the same time. Christians today like to think in the dualistic terms of either/or. Everything is either holy or evil. Right or wrong. Bad or good. Unfortunately for them, the Bible is a collection of non-dualistic concepts.  Second, early canon collectors saw women as weak. Let's face it. Men throughout history have seen women as weak. The fragile, too-emotional sex that must be dominated and ruled with a firm hand. Left to our own devices, we are too permissible, too mouthy, too inconsistent, too weak. I don't know about you but I often heard these words spoken about me or my sisters. So, God is described as a strong, male warrior. He provides for and protects his family. Great. But the problem with describing God as only male is that he too often jumps over to the toxic/extreme attributes of masculinity without the much-needed female characteristics. Look around you. A lot of men are so deeply offended by the idea of balanced anima/animus energy. They cannot tolerate the idea that the softer, female characteristics of nurturing, protecting, and emotional attunement could possibly describe them or their God. So, we have an epidemic of toxically masculine men who refuse to recognize the female attributes of God and refuse to grow their own emotional intelligence. Now, in fairness, I have noticed women taking this concept to the other extreme (remember, we are either/or thinkers). Some women have run with this concept and yelling out in the streets, "GOD IS FEMALE! THE FUTURE IS FEMALE!" without recognizing that God is both/and. Ladies, toxic femininity is also a thing. So, how is all of this sitting with you? Do you find yourself angry or resistant to the idea of God being also female? Why? What do you think might happen if Christians began to embrace Mother God? Notice feelings that surface: anger, fear, dismissiveness? What might happen to you if you became more receptive of the feminine attributes of God? How might this understanding of Scripture change you for the better?” ~ Brittney Valeria interviews Dr. Brittney Doll — She is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist. Her doctorate research centered on rebuilding self-agency after experiencing religious trauma. Lisa Yaszek is one of my favorite interviews but her appearances with me have all to this point been on the Dickheads podcast. She is the Regents Professor of Science Fiction Studies in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech. She is the author of Galactic Suburbia: Recovering Women's Science Fiction co-editor of Sisters of Tomorrow. Most importantly today she is the editor of two Library of America editions of The Future is Female. These are definitive anthologies that paint the history of women's role in the writing of 20th century Science Fiction. I interviewed her about the first Future is Female Vol 1 on DHP, she also joined us for panels on Cancel Culture, Scholars in Quarantine, and a panel on the work of Judith Merril. She is one of my favorite guests because the lady knows the genre, and the history, and every time I hear her on my podcast, lectures, or read her work I learn stuff. So buckle in! In this interview we talk about the second volume of The Future is Female focused on the science fiction of second-wave feminists in the 1970s. We talk about the atmosphere in the era of SF, feminism, and more. We go story by story, author by author. I think it will greatly add to your experience if you read it. The two volumes of this series are must-read books for anyone interested in the history of the genre. Female leadership is essential for reconnecting a disconnected world. Dr. Jody Carrington is the founder of Carrington & Company, where she focuses her passion on tackling modern psychological issues with reconnection. With modern communication technology, the pandemic, and the mental health crisis making us feel more disconnected than ever, people are struggling to cope. The solution is having people feel seen and heard, and that requires integrating the emotional and personal influence of feminine leadership into the workplace. People become much more emotionally regulated and motivated when they are surrounded by personal connection and kindness, and that leads to productivity and success. Lead with kindness and get reconnected with your people!

Now I'm busy sharing it. They join because they want that.” “We were raised back in the day to think, ‘business has nothing to do with personal feelings', but every mom entrepreneur around the world in any city is the same… battling massive fear of failure or guilt that she's doing something focused on herself.” “We do a lot of encouragement. Get in front of your brand! You're a small business. We need to see you, get to know you and we need to trust you in order to buy your stuff.” Links mentioned in this episode: Check out Jill's website: https://jillsalzman.com/  Visit the website for Jill's growing company, The Founding Moms: https://foundingmoms.com/  Listen to Jill's Ultra-popular Podcast, Why are we Shouting? https://jillsalzman.com/podcast/  Buy Jill Salzman's Publications, including her beloved field guide for mom entrepreneurs: https://foundingmoms.com/books/
