Most of us human beings are weird. We make these declarations about what we want, then when it comes to taking the steps necessary to make that happen, we do everything we can to avoid them. And the longer we do that, the bigger the task seems to be and the more we beat ourselves up for not doing it. If you have behaved the same way, or you're stuck at the moment, then take solace from the fact that you aren't alone. All of us do it, and more often than not for the same reason. In fact this situation came up recently in a coaching session with one of my Speaking Club Live members, Donna Ferenth, who has kindly agreed to let me share our discussion with you. Why does one even pick up a nonfiction or motivational, personal growth, self help, or spiritual book? They do this because they are seeking a change in their lives. I have always been interested in healing and transformation. I have always desired to create a life I love and I am excited about. -Maybe you have been dreaming of a new career, or a new relationship or you'd like to have more empowered relationships with your loved ones. -Maybe you need to learn about forgiveness, or how to set clear boundaries in your current relationships. -Maybe you would like to understand your feelings more and gain more control over the types of thoughts you have. -Maybe you are trying to heal your body physically in a more natural way. Reading can help us to literally “change our minds.” Even before I met my husband Alan (we have been together for over 26years now) I was a researcher and so interested in how and why people are they way they are. I was obsessed with The Oprah Winfrey Show. (Show DVD Collection) I am confessing that I actually even own her dvd collection. (I know, who even watches DVDs now?) I would watch every single episode with the intention of learning something. I knew I could learn something from everyone's experience. Then my husband and I became entrepreneurs during college and I believe that really sparked our desire to learn even more about how to manage our thoughts, expand our lives and live differently than most of society. We began to hang out at Barnes and Noble all time. Reading was our favorite thing to do because it would help us shift our mindset and inspire us to believe in possibility and be even more creative and more connected to one another. We really wanted to have a successful relationship. Alan and I were both willing to expand our minds and read and continuously learn new things. Honestly then when we were going to become parents, my husband and I barely read parenting books. We soon realized that we didn't resonate with most messages in those particular books about how to create our family and so instead we read tons of other amazing inspirational books and then applied all of these other books to invent our own unique parenting style. I have read over 1000 books and they have helped us create the most magical, loving marriage and family. This doesn't mean everything is always perfect, but these books and new mindsets, help us transform our thoughts, manage our emotions, think more positively and give us coping skills for all of life's challenges. I have so many favorites and I would love to share them all with you, (in time I will share even more) but for today I looked through my collection and thought I would share a handful of books that might be fun to start with to help you begin to change your own life, inspire you go after your dreams and help you manage life with less stress and more joy. I was thinking of getting him a Biomat mini or belt... what else? Giving a blanket answer to this question is tough because it ignores everyone's bio-individuality. That said, a good guideline to follow would be, as a first step: give the problem some crutches to lean on. This means giving the inflammatory response a break for a moment so that your gut can soothe itself — at least for long enough to absorb the nutrients you're going to need to begin healing. Eliminating the most obvious food sensitivities like nuts, eggs, dairy, wheat, processed foods, nightshades, etc. Once that's dialed in, go a level up and consider removing high-histamine foods that could be perpetuating the inflammatory cycle. And then, once a little more stable, support detoxification by getting in a light daily sweat, and eating steamed foods that assist the liver, like dandelion, artichoke, beets, cruciferous vegetables, garlic, and gluten-free oats. And all the while, prioritize meditation, sunlight, and lymphatic drainage. A light rebounding session on a Bellicon, or even just doing some jumping jacks on some carpeting can be a big help. To dive deep into all matters colitis, and IBD, someone who'd been a well-kept secret here in LA for several years, but is now out of LA, and entering the online world in a bigger way, is a personal friend of mine, Jordan Kravitz. Jordan was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2015, and after getting handed the pamphlets about all the drugs he'd need from the head of the IBD clinic here at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Jordan laughed at him and told him to keep his drugs. Anybody have any tips? I know it could be a lot of things but I'm open to suggestions so I can pinpoint what's going on. I’ve heard this probably 100 times over the years Like most experimental, and extreme diets, they often work for a period of time, then the body falls out of balance. There has never, ever been a 100% vegan human civilization in recorded history, which is why i call it experimental We don't yet know if it's safe. it would take 2-3 generations of 100% vegan people to breed 100% vegan kids, who then breed with 100% vegan people a few times over to see if its viable In my experience, being vegetarian or vegan is a form of fasting, or cleansing which can be amazing in the short term I prefer a balanced diet and to listen to my body and what it wants, since it is its own living organism, with its own innate intelligence If you do decide to phase out of this diet, try starting with bone broth (no additional animals die to make bone broth) or pastured eggs or wild caught, sustainably sourced fish. or even just oysters. True Calling Project | Finding Purpose and Meaning In Life and Career
Should you quit your job? Over the past few years, I have seen a lot of discussions and advertisements online encouraging people to leave their job, take risk, step into the unknown and really go for it. I want to offer another perspective. I did quit my job about two years ago, and it did open up new opportunities in my life that I would not have had otherwise – however, in hindsight, there are a few things I would have done differently. Eckhart Tolle suggests that there are three ways that we can improve a situation in which we are unhappy: Can you change your situation? Can you accept it? Should you leave it? Before you decide to leave a job, first consider what about the job is making you unhappy. Are you doing things you don’t like, or not doing enough of the things you enjoy? Improving that situation may be as simple as sitting down to talk with a supervisor. “Practicing acceptance within my line of work has really been focused on the fact that I need to be present with the people that I’m working with and that I’m connected with.” When we’re talking about changing things, we’re approaching the situation from a cognitive or logical mindset. When we’re talking about accepting something, we’re coming from a place of being in the moment or noticing our resistance. Is there something we’re resisting in our work environments? Are there things that we can acknowledge as common consequences or inconveniences of any job we might have, and view them as things we have to deal with to do the things we love to do? Acceptance can lead to gratitude. “When I adopt a mindset of gratitude in my work, it’s that I recognize the awesome potential of what it is I’m actually doing.” The question then becomes, when can I or should I leave my current situation? No one can answer this question for you, but good planning can help you figure the answer out for yourself. Take an inventory of your financial situation, and how it will be impacted if you leave your job. If you’re transitioning from a job with steady income into a job without a steady income, you’ll want to save at least 6 month’s income. If you’re transitioning from job with steady income into a job with less steady income, you’ll want to save at least 3 month’s income. Why do you want to leave your job? What opportunities will open up that are not currently available? Talk to people who have already transitioned and learn from their experiences. Abundance vs Scarcity The idea that things are in scarcity keeps many people stuck in their current situation. When we come from a place of abundance, we realize that time isn’t necessarily finite. Just because we don’t like where things are at now doesn’t mean things won’t get better. So, should you quit your job? Before you make the decision: slow down, consider your motivations to make the change, take a personal inventory, do careful financial planning, consider the unexpected, and identify things that you can change today to improve your situation.
