Lenny Bruce On this week's episode, Ibrahim & I dive into the life of one of the great comics of The Modern Stand-Up Era - a man that it can be argued changed the format of stand-up comedy - Lenny Bruce (October 13, 1925 - August 03, 1966). Often times recognized as a Christ-like martyr "who died for the sins of all future comics" this description may be extreme, however Bruce's status as an innovator and artistic & cultural hero cannot be denied. This week Ibrahim & I are thrilled to discuss one of the greats, including Bob Fosse's 1974 (loosely) biographical look at Bruce's life, Lenny featuring Dustin Hoffman as Bruce and an Academy Award nominated Valeria Perrine as his wife, Honey. We also look at three documentaries of varying quality. 1998's Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth (dir. Robert Weide), 1972's Lenny Bruce: Without Tears (dir. The series is hosted by Nikki Glaser and premiered on July 29, 2021, on HBO Max. The reality TV dating show dropped its first batch of episodes, a la Too Hot to Handle style, back in late July of this year—and it instantly became a hit for those who are reality TV obsessed. Raise your hand if you've watched and can't stop saying “fboy, fbye” “nice guy, nice try.” Yep, us too. Following three single ladies, Sarah Emig, Nakia Renee, and CJ Franco, as they try to date a group of 24 men (some of which are there for love, some there just to be your standard old fboy), FBoy Island is literally reality TV gold. Not to mention it's set on a tropical island and hosted by the oh-so-funny Nikki Glaser. However, what truly made the show stand out from the rest, had to be the shocking finale. Therefore, we had to get to the bottom of how one contestant felt after the finale elimination night. Following the finale, Sarah Emig opened up about her time on ‘FBoy Island' Unfortunately, Sarah did not get to leave FBoy Island with either a nice guy or reformed fboy. Instead, she was played by the bitcoin investor and self-proclaimed fboy Garret Morosky. After choosing him and opting to give him control of the $100,000 cash prize, Garrett (like any fboy would) dumped Sarah and took the money for himself. It was a total WTF moment. FBOY Island's CASEY Talks Escaping Limbro & Getting Eliminated by CJ | Divij's Den | Ep 19 CJ Franco chose to be with Jarred Evans (New Jarred) on the finale of FBoy Island but some fans think she should have picked Casey Johnson. Casey came onto the island as a fboy while Jarred joined the show as a nice guy, and yet still many viewers think the pair should have ended up together. What about Casey and CJ's connection made fans cheer for a fboy? CJ was immediately drawn to Casey from the early episodes of the season. She liked his confidence and the two shared a lot of steamy moments together. That chemistry took a wrong turn when Ohio-native Casey challenged CJ during their private villa date, telling her he wasn't going to let her control him like the rest of the guys. Casey was sent packing later that same episode in a dramatic double elimination. He took the rejection hard, saying that CJ didn't deserve any of the guys on the island before storming off. After some time spent in "limbro" with the other eliminated fboys, Casey broke out and went back to the villa to win CJ over. When Casey returned, he and CJ reconnected quickly. She appreciated that he was willing to fight for her and that he had seemed to have evolved emotionally. Fans agreed that Casey really had a change of heart on the show. While talking to a more committed fboy, Garrett Morosky, Casey explained that while he first came to the show for the money, he was now here only for CJ. "For the first time in so long, I'm scared to lose her, and I never feel like that," he said. Casey's reformation also reflected in CJ, as his change helped her to break down some of the walls she had up. Fans thought the two helped each other to grow and their ability to weather challenges together clearly showed that they were a good match. On the other side of the coin was Jarred. The first night when Jarred arrived at the island, he quickly got into a heated argument with who other than the man who shared his name, Jared Motley (OG Jared). Even CJ thought that Jarred was a fboy before his true status was revealed. He was indeed a nice guy, but many fans were put off by his competitive personality. While he was nothing but gentlemanly towards CJ, his bravado continued when he was around just the guys. After both he and Casey each had a 24-hour date with CJ, Jarred asked Casey an inappropriate question about his night with CJ, one that would usually come from an fboy. Many fans didn't think Jarred was the right choice for CJ due to his demeanor and often antagonistic comments. CJ and Jarred formed a deep connection, but her bond with Casey did appear more genuine from the get-go. In the end, CJ chose Jarred because she thought he showed they could work through tough times faster than Casey, and without any mistakes. Casey achieved the goal at the heart of FBoy Island, to make fboys reconsider their choices and change for the better. While he wasn't CJ's final choice, the two parted amicably. Based on CJ and Jarred's social media, the couple may no longer be dating. The two CJs may have a chance to end up together after all. Just when we thought summer couldn't get any hotter, HBO Max announced its sizzling new series "FBoy Island" (via Deadline). The dating show was created by Elan Gale of "The Bachelor," Sam Dean of "Love Is Blind" who is set to serve as showrunner, and comedian Nikki Glaser will host.
