I was super excited to talk to today's guest, and she did not disappoint. You know her from The Mandalorian (where she played Elia Kane), or maybe from Ant-Man and the Wasp or her new film Love Lies Bleeding. It's Katy O'Brian, and that's what's up!
So this episode was my favourite so far of the whole season, which isn't saying a whole lot since this season has been pretty all over the place and lack lustre, but this one definintely was awesome. I loved seeing the commeradere of the mandalorians, despite their warring tribes they all came together. I believe the spies were of course Elia Kane, but also the armorer and the pirates. There's no way those pirates wouldn't be loyal to Gideon this whole time, roaming the surface and not discovered by Gideon or the Empire. I'm sure the Empire offered them food and help, and them being sick was perhaps a way for the Armorer to get out of there with them. I think Gideon has spies everywhere, and the biggest twist would be if the Armorer was one of his. I have a hard time believing she is, but the fact that we now see his horned helmet along with hers, it just makes me question things. The other possibility is that she is a Zabrak, and the horns are because she can't wear her helmet any other way. As they head towards the Forge, a massive dinosaur blows their ship up, this is NOT they Mythosaur. The Mythosaur is much bigger and more powerful. They escape to a cave and move further down, finally getting to the Forge. They hear jet packs and realize imperials are headed their way. They fly now! These imperials are fitted with white Beskar armour. Axe Woves gets out of there to call for reinforcements, escaping through a small hole in the roof. They all shoot at one another and the Mandos take them out, until they're foolishly lured into a trap. As they notice a massive army of imperial tie fighters and weaponry. They're ambushed and separated by a door that closes. Din fights off the stomtroopers in beskar, tied down, when Moff Gideon lands in his new suit. The next generation of dark trooper suit, this means, it's lightsaber resistant if it's a new phase from the previous dark troopers we saw in season 2's finale with Luke. as the phase 3 dark troopers were lightsaber resistant. Moff Gideon's helmet has horns, so does the armorer's. There are only one group of mandalorians who has horns on their helmets. Darth Maul's loyalists. I believe the armorer is working with Moff Gideon. I believe Moff Gideon is loyal to Darth Maul's leadership as ruler of Mandalore. Gideon talks about the cloners, the jedi, the mandalorians all having something special about them. He plans to aggregate the best of each, and bring order to the galaxy. I think Gideon was trying to create the perfect warrior. A cloned force sensitive wearing mandalorian armor. He sends Din to the debriefing room to be questioned and tortured. He turns to Bo Katan after hearing her voice and demands the dark saber. As she nods to Paz and they all blast the doors as Gideon opens them. Bo runs to the back and qui gon jinn style puts the dark saber through the blast door and cuts a hole for them to escape through. Paz is holding them off with his gattling mini gun blaster and closes the door on himself, telling Bo to go as he takes them all on like a boss. His blaster overheats and he man handles all of them. Until, 3 mandalorian styled praetorian guards appear to defeat him. They slash and stab him at the corners of his armour's weak openings, killing him. He goes out like a boss and I was upset to see him go as I liked his stoic powerful presence in the crew. His son will be very devastated to learn of his father's sacrifice. The praetorian guards have a different helmet than they do in the sequel trilogy, and we see that they have t visor, looking a lot like the shadow guards from legends and the force unleashed. These guys are incredibly powerful and could use the force. The Praetorian guards here look like some mandalorian variation and it makes me wonder if they're different from the sequel trilogy ones or not. Thrawn, praetorian guards, luke skywalker, darth maul loyalists could all be in the next episode and of course moff gideon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Greetings citizens of the Galactic Empire. Thank you being law abiding citizens and pointing out any suspected terrorism. We are back with another episode of The Mandalorian. The PENULTIMATE episode: The Spies. Is that title relevant? Sort of. In the last episode with Lizzo and Jack Black, Bo-Katan successfully defeated her rivals for control of her fleet. She and Din Djarin return to Nevarro thus completing step one of the Armorer's plan to unite all tribes of Mandalore so the re-conquest of their home-world can begin. In the beginning of the episode we do see some awesome cyberpunk shots of Coruscant and it's high-tech, low-life aesthetic. We also see the obviously evil Elia Kane slinking away to communicate with Moff Gideon via a probe droid that the Mandalorians are planning to return to Mandalore. Why are any of these former Imperials being left unsupervised on the former Imperial Capital? That is a huge security risk! Of course this means trouble for Moff Gideon because that is exactly where his secret Dark Trooper 2.0 base is located. We get a cool shot of him passing through several red force fields guarded by these new Dark Troopers where we see a council of Imperials gathered together. First and foremost Captain Pellaeon! Grand Admiral Thrawn's right hand man! I always remembered Pellaeon having a mustache like he does in the show. I flicked through the graphic novel for Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. Clean shaven. Not sure where the Mandela effect is coming from in this case but, I swear he's not as old as they depict him in the show and his hair is not grey. Since the Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, he has been depicted in several different media. If you've ever played the game Tie Fighter then you also know some of Admiral Thrawn's story. Here in the intro cut-scene we learn he's not even a "Grand" Admiral yet, he wears the white uniform which only Grand Admirals are allowed. There's also a guy with the white mustache and goatee next to him. Is that where they got the idea for Captain Pellaeon's depiction in the show? Curious. While Pellaeon may differ in appearance from book, to graphic novel, to video game to TV show, I'm really looking forward to the Grand Admiral Thrawn's appearance on the silver screen. In this week's episode of the Black Girl Nerds podcast we interview actors Katy O'Brian and Jay Lycurgo. Segment 1: Katy O'Brian is an actor, writer and martial artist. She is best known for her roles as Jentorra in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, George in Syfy's zombie show Z Nation, Major Sarah Grey in The CW's superhero series Black Lightning and Kimball in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. She plays Imperial communications officer Elia Kane in the second and third seasons of The Mandalorian. Host: Jamie Segment 2: Jay was cast in a supporting role in Matt Reeves' upcoming blockbuster feature The Batman. He as most recently seen in the role of ‘Tim Drake' aka ‘Robin' in the HBO Max series Titans, where he quickly became the fan favorite and the first POC to portray the character. Currently, he can be seen starring as the lead in Joe Barton's upcoming fantasy series Half-Bad for Netflix Host: Ryanne Music by: Sammus, Sky Blew and Shubzilla Edited by: Jamie Broadnax
Wow! This episode takes a left turn that seems to split the fanbase. That is, what's left of The Mandalorian fanbase. If memory serves, Ryan Eary at Screen Crush mentions that half the fans seemed to have abandoned the series, which is unfortunate. This season, instead relying on crossing over characters from other series (Bo Katan) or blatant fan service (Luke Skywalker), the creators are taking a huge risk. Rather, they are beginning to treat the Star Wars franchise similar to the Marvel franchise. Instead of creating each series in a vacuum, they're are zooming out at the galaxy map, and finding out where and when these characters could cross paths along the timeline. Like Marvel Comic heroes, they know each character has their own respective villains, friends, teachers, and all manner acquaintances. These characters also exist in our world. With cities like New York and San Francisco. Many believe part of the reason the Marvel franchise is so successful is due to how it's characters are based in real places. This is in stark contrast to the DC franchise who's characters exist in fictional places based on real world cities of New York (Metropolis) and Chicago (Gotham). Star Wars has no shortage of Expanded Universe characters and storylines to use as a canvas for a television show. I admit my wrong doing when approaching The Mandalorian season three. I was disillusioned by seasons one and two of Mandalorian. I felt there were too many episodes that did not add to the story and were simply filler. This is why I did not even bother to watch The Book of Boba Fett. I had wanted a Boba Fett show the whole time. Instead we got a show with a guy who looked and acted like Boba Fett. But wait! For two seasons we were leaving bread crumbs and subtle hints Boba Fett was there the whole time. In my opinion, the juice was not worth the squeeze. Of course AJ and my brother violently disagree. Fine. Let them. Chapter 19 starts off with a impressive dogfight between Bo Katan's Kom'rk-Class Fighter/transport "The Gauntlet," Din Djarin's modified "N1" Noobian starfighter and some Tie Bombers and Tie Interceptors. After which, the story makes huge departure and instead follow up with a character from season one. Dr. Penn Pershing. Member him? If not for his stupid glasses I wouldn't either. The whole story involves cloning technology he was working on. Tech which was ordered to be destroyed by the New Republic. Instead, we see Pershing attempting to re-integrate into a society free from the tyranny of the Galactic Empire. However, as a scientist, he cannot bare to see his life's work lost despite the good it might yield. Here my brother Mike actually makes himself useful. We ask the question, what happened to the Kaminoans and their cloning facilities. According to Star Wars Battlefront II, the CIS has launched an attack on Kamino in an attempt to destroy the Republic's clone producing facilities. According to the Wookiepedia, this first attack would take place only two months after the Battle of Geonosis. Only in the series The Bad Batch, do we see the cloning facilities on Kamino utterly destroyed by order of Moff Tarkin. Dr. Pershing and his new friend Elia Kane, sneak aboard a decommissioned Star Destroyer to steal lab supplies needed in order to continue research into cloning. It's here we find out that Elia betrayed Dr. Pershing and stole his technology. Only time will tell what she and the alliance plan to do with it. Overall, a great episode in my opinion. Why? It took risks. It dared to do something different. Even if the storyline is a thinly veiled attempt to retcon Rise of Skywalker's Clone Emperor plot holes. Thanks for listening and watching. -Luca #Mandalorian #episode3 Tweet us @SWRewatchPod on Twitter Subscribe to us on YouTube Subscribe on Apple Podcasts Subscribe on Spotify Email us at StarWarsRewatchPodcast@gmail.com
The Spies - who are the spies?? This episode brings the best from many of the open story lines and we have a lot to say about it - from the return of The Mof, the continuation of Elia Kane, the Mandos, Nevarro and the best invention of IG-Grogu Yes! No! (otherwise known as IG-12!), a Pirates of the Caribbean montage, quiet moments where Din professes his love to Bo, ok, well, he didn't exactly say those words, he did pledge to support her "until her song was written" !!! and another crazy mountain monster!!! Theory talk is thriving on the internet this week as podcasters and fans try to sort through who are the spies to which "The Spies" refers...plural. Is The Armorer talking about the Way while secretly advancing the aims of the Empire? Is Axe Woves going for help or getting out of harm's way? Is Captain Bombardier so concerned with pleasure that Plazir-15 is now really just a waystation for Imperial trade? Are the survivors really surviving or did they trade their loyalty to the planet for peace? Is R5-D4 a double agent? Are Bo-Katan and Din Djarin really "spies" of a different kind? Is the Shadow Council a bunch of spies...on each other? The only one we know for sure is a spy is Elia Kane. The case is made for the allegiances of several different characters and Moff Gideon's mustache is discussed. There's much more, of course, but we hope you'll listen and discover for yourself! Elia Kane informs Moff Gideon of the Mandalorians' intent to retake their planet. Gideon relays this information to the Shadow Council, a group of Imperial remnant warlords. He requests reinforcements from them and questions Captain Pellaeon on the absence of Grand Admiral Thrawn, suggesting that the Council should choose a new leader. Reassembling on Nevarro, Bo-Katan unites the Mandalorian clans and prepares a recon party to explore the surface of Mandalore. Prior to leaving, Greef Karga presents Din Djarin with IG-12: a rebuilt version of IG-11, which is able to be controlled by Grogu. On Mandalore, the group meets up with another clan, who is loyal to Bo-Katan. Bo-Katan admits she surrendered to Gideon near the end of the Great Purge, hoping that the Empire would spare the Mandalorians. The party finds the Great Forge but is ambushed by Gideon's beskar-enhanced stormtroopers. Djarin is captured by Gideon, who reveals his intent to create a new army of Dark Troopers. He attempts to kill the remaining Mandalorians, but Bo-Katan uses the Darksaber to make an escape for the group, with Paz Vizsla staying behind to buy time. Vizsla fights off the stormtroopers but falls to Gideon's Praetorian Guards.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
The Mandalorian Season 3 episode 7, Chapter 23 "The Spies" is the penultimate episode before the season finale next week and it sees Bo-Katan reuniting tribes of Mandalorians to go back to Mandalore to take back their home planet. All is not as it may seem as the Mando's encounter none other than Moff Gideon and his Imperial remnant installment on the planet. This week Frank and Sean discuss who else could be seen as a spy (aside from Elia Kane) as the title indicates more than one, what the Shadow Council could be up to and how the events of this episode may set up a major showdown in the finale. No. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes... Lucasfilm and Disney really cannot give up Grogu. They should not. They probably WILL NOT. What could have come off as a horrible parody ended up being cute and funny. It could still end up being terrible, but for now, we must admit, we like Independent Grogu-12. Who are the titular spies? Elia Kane is certainly one. Does Brindol Hux count because his son famously declares himself as one many years later? What about any and all of the Imperial remnant? The pirates? Is it the Mandalorian survivors? It can't be The Armorer. Well, it SHOULDN'T be based on her story. You don't bother building up people just to destroy them later if you can just manufacture the destruction at any time. It's not like she couldn't have done it safely. She also didn't hesitate to crack skulls in the Nevarro sewers, bust up the pirates, or abandon the group. It would have been hard not to improve on last week's episode, but the penultimate one for season three moved us toward what promises to be an amazing finale. We'll have to see Chapter 24 before we know, but we have the best thing in the galaxy on our side: hope. We got some feedback last week and we answer it! Marshal and Rish finally reunite to discuss Star Wars, specifically the first three episodes of The Mandalorian season three. Is Bo Katan up to something? Does Paz Visla have a beef with Din Djarin? Why does everyone follow the Armorer? Who is Rook Kast? Will Rish be seduced by Elia Kane? Who will ride the Mythosaur? Will the Mind Flayer connect Star Wars with Stranger Things? In Episode 138 of The Force Geeks: A Star Wars Podcast, Nate, Jake and Chris dissect the fifth episode of the third season (chapter 21) of The Mandalorian, including the show giving us a good ol' fashioned 'star war' with the pirate siege, while also setting up so much ahead with the details surrounding Moff Gideon's disappearance, more treachery from Elia Kane, a new home for the Mandalorian people and a new mission for Bo-Katan Kryze.

The Mandalorian is back on Disney+ to kick off Season Three. On this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester discuss the characterization and storytelling developments unfolding across Chapter 17 (“The Apostate”), Chapter 18 (“The Mines of Mandalore”), and Chapter 19 (“The Convert”). By the end of these three episodes, we've learned a lot more about our central characters, yet each of them still faces profound questions about how they will choose to define, and possibly reshape, their individual identities going forward. For this season, Katee Sackoff is credited as a co-lead with Pedro Pascal, and the prominent role of Bo-Katan in these episodes definitely warrants that billing. For Din Djarin, these episodes showcase his commitment to his understanding of the Mandalorian Creed. Despite other opportunities and obligations, he insists on fulfilling his quest to bathe in the Living Waters on Mandalore to redeem himself for having removed his helmet during the events of Season Two. He succeeds, and upon returning to the covert receives confirmation from the Armorer. What remains very much an open question, however, is what Din will do next. Bo-Katan Kryze, on the other hand, experiences a very different journey. She begins the season without a purpose: she has lost her fleet, the Darksaber, and any people or place to rule – and, it seems, she has long since lost her faith in the value of the Creed. Once she departs her castle to rescue Grogu's dad, she still talks to the foundling mostly about what she has lost, rather than what she still has to live (or fight) for. Even in the chamber with the Living Waters, she can barely hold back her derision when reading the ancient plaque. Then in s short span of time she sees the Mythosaur, loses her home to Imperial bombers, and is bestowed with her own redemption under the Armorer's interpretation of the Creed. Suddenly everything has changed. Yet, like Din, Bo-Katan faces many questions about what she will choose for her path forward. In addition to the lead characters, we also examine what these episodes show the audience about Grogu and his journey, as well as the Coruscant-based storyline with Doctor Pershing, Elia Kane, the New Republic's amnesty program, and the lingering shadow of the Empire. This was a short episode. Oh, of the podcast? Sure, but wow this one would have needed to be stacked with commercials to fit an hour slot. In these streaming days, well, no such trouble. Yes, I know last week's description seems similar and that's purposeful when you consider the difference between the lengths. This episode was the shortest of the series! I went this far before bringing up Ahmed Best. Are you proud of me? I don't think I'll ever warm to Jar Jar Binks, but the man suffered a great deal for doing the job he was hired to do. He's also a lover of Star Wars and that's always alright in my book. If I was a betting man, I'd say we're going to see most of the remaining scenes from the season three trailer in the 5th episode of the season. If there is anything left, it might be the Carson Teva stuff. We left off on the planet with the covert, so the remaining scenes of the Mandalorians there and on Nevarro probably are next. Will we check back in with Dr. Pershing and Elia Kane? Will we get a through thread bridging seasons three and four? Will we get more nurture and admonition in the Mandalorian culture or has everyone "leveled up" enough this season? So many questions, but this kind of storytelling is why we fell in love with the show in the first place. We have reached the halfway point of the third season and it's not all downhill from here! Star Wars The Mandalorian “The Convert” dropped last week. There was instant conversation and comparisons to The other hit Disney Plus show, Andor. However, that's not exactly what we're concerned with here…when is Coroscant as Star Wars' political center moving to Hosnian Prime? We speculate on this, who Katy O'Brian's character, Elia Kane is working for and what if Claudia Grey's “The Napkin Bombing” set up the entire Sequel Trilogy? Finally, what is a galaxy without hope? On this week's episode of the podcast, we talk about the latest installment of The Mandalorian. Does The Convert continue the momentum from last week's excellent The Mines of Mandalore, or does it come to an abrupt halt with an unrelated side story? We discuss the choice to center much of the episode's action around minor characters Dr. Pershing and Elia Kane, and debate whether it was the right storytelling choice at this point in the season. Elsewhere, we speculate about Bo Katan's intention behind hiding her knowledge of the Mythosaur, and whether her motives are self-serving. Also on the episode: we run through our predictions for where the season might go from here. All of this and so much more on The Breaking Canon Podcast! We talk about The Mandalorian – The Convert this week and it turns out Jarvis is the convert! He's finally looking forward to the next show. Follow. Subscribe. Rate. Review. Thumbs up. And give us all the Stars! Show notes. Who is Dr. Penn Pershing? Who is Elia Kane? News you can abuse! All Marvel shows on Disney+ are up in the air. Secret Invasion is maybe coming out at the end of May and Loki might come out at the end of the summer, but all that is speculation. Who knows when Secret Wars is going to come out, or what the movie is going to look like. Multiple movies? Elizabeth Olsen is open to returning to her Scarlet Witch role. What's up next?

After Djarin recovers, he and Bo-Katan depart Mandalore, though Bo-Katan withholds the Mythosaur's existence from him. Upon returning to Kalevala, they are attacked by Imperial TIE squads, who destroy Bo-Katan's home, and are forced to retreat to the secret Mandalorian enclave. Djarin presents the Armorer with a sample of the Living Waters as proof of his redemption, and because she has also bathed in the Waters, Bo-Katan is welcomed to the enclave as well. On Coruscant, Dr. Pershing receives a pardon by the New Republic, but is startled to find Elia Kane among the amnesty program's recipients. Kane declares to assist Pershing in his efforts to continue his cloning research, which has been outlawed by the Republic. They sneak aboard a decommissioned Star Destroyer to steal the necessary materials, but Kane betrays Pershing to the Republic's lawkeepers and later secretly sabotages the mind-wiping procedure used on him.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
