On Episode 179, Idiot's Array once again joins forces with Tarkin's Top Shelf to dissect and discuss the latest episodes of The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch. We start by discussing Pabu. What was the main theme of this episode? How are we feeling about Phee's involvement with The Bad Batch? Where do we see the series going from here? Next, we take the conversation to The Convert. How good was the space battle with Din, Bo-Katan, and the TIEs? How does Bo-Katan feel about possibly joining Din's clan? How does Dr. Pershing's story tie in to the overall story of The Mandalorian and to the Star Wars saga in general? All of this and much more fun! We would be honored if you would join us. As we enter the cantina, Omega and Phee are making a deal with some masked sellers over a porcelain looking sculpture. When the deal goes bad and Phee gets threatened with a Kuhaan, which is the same slug like poisonous insect we saw Zam Wessell send to Padme's room in attack of the clones, Hunter throws his knife and saves her. A big brawl breaks out with the Bad Batch against the masked scammers. They fire up the ship and get out of there. Phee says that Omega needs to be a kid and hang out with other normal kids, as the crew get a transmission from Cid. She says it's been 20 days without them working for her, and she threatens them by essentially saying she knows everything about them and that she'll reveal them to the empire or other bounty hunters…like Boba Fett for example who she could hire to get the Bad Batch.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On the latest episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester consider the second set of three episodes in Season Two of The Bad Batch. These episodes – “Faster,” “Entombed,” and “Tribe” – present a trio of independent, self-contained missions for Omega and her brothers: accompanying Cid for an ill-fated gambling excursion involving riot racing, a dangerous adventure to seek an artifact in an ancient tomb with Phee, and an unexpected encounter with Gungi, a young Wookiee Jedi survivor of Order 66, that leads Clone Force 99 to conflict-scarred Kashyyyk. Although some fans have expressed confusion about the purpose of these episodes in The Bad Batch Season Two, we discuss how classic elements of Star Wars story structure help to explain the character development goals underlying these episodes – and why our protagonists seem to meet less than successful outcomes for their endeavors. As Clone Force 99 struggles to find a new identity and purpose in the galaxy, these episodes provide them with important information and experiences that can influence their thinking and decisions going forward. Along the way, we also describe why these episodes of The Bad Batch are not “filler episodes” or “bottle episodes” as those terms are used in serial television storytelling, drawing on Tricia's post about “Faster” and filler and an insightful post by Kathryn VanArendonk at Vulture. Finally, we use B.J.'s post about “Tribe” to briefly step back into the storytelling origins of The Clone Wars with George Lucas and examine how The Bad Batch pulls forward some decade-old unused ideas. This episodes concludes with our reactions to the recently released trailer for Season Three of The Mandalorian, which premieres on March 1st. Genoa recognizes one of the objects as a compass with coordinate markings. She gets her droid Mel to shine a light on the object, which she recognizes as coordinates for the Kaldar Trinary system. Tech remarks that the system is uncharted, prompting Genoa to respond that the best treasures are often off-grid. In August, the White House unveiled a new strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa focused on promoting open societies, democracy and security, while increasing U.S. efforts to help Africa combat Covid-19 and adapt to climate change. Meanwhile, the U.S. remains active in the crises in the Horn of Africa, including the peace process in Ethiopia, resolving the political impasse in Sudan and countering Al-Shabaab in Somalia. Yet, America's role has also shifted amid a changing world, especially as Washington increasingly engages with other regional powers, including in the Middle East, about Horn of Africa affairs. This week on The Horn, Alan speaks with Molly Phee, U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, about how the Biden administration envisions partnership with African countries and Africa's role on the global stage. They talk about the administration's approach to great-power competition in relation to Africa, as well as the increasing role of regional powers, including from the Gulf. They then discuss the Ethiopia peace process, the role of Eritrea, and U.S. efforts to broker a new political deal in Sudan. They also examine whether the U.S. supports eventual political talks with Al-Shabaab in Somalia, what to do about South Sudan, U.S.-Kenya relations, and the continued and controversial use of U.S. sanctions as a diplomatic lever. Phee then previews the upcoming U.S.-Africa summit next week in Washington. For more in-depth analysis of some of the topics discussed in this episode, make sure to check out our Africa program page. This Summer the United States updated its foreign policy for Africa when it shifted the focus from competing with China to improving governance and bolstering trade ties with the region. It's been awhile but we are back with a new episode. This week we feature Kansas City native Phee. Some time last year Phee found Views of an ex because of Pour Minds podcast shouting us out. She later sent a message saying that she has a story but is nervous to tell it. Fast forward a few months and Phee built up the courage to come on the podcast to speak on a traumatic 4 month relationship that she was in. Find out how this relationship went from sweet to tart in such a short time. Sign up to the Patreon: Patreon.com/ViewsOfAnEx
