I went to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce ceremony for my pal Carl Weathers. (We wrote a script together were friends for 20 years.)  At the ceremony I met some relatives and friends, and told them I might be able to reach out to Carl via our podcast (again.) If one searches his name on this podcast, they'll see the initial interview. But in honor of his family and friends, here's an article that talks about what the ceremony was like: HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES -- Carl Weathers was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week. On Thursday, the actor, known for his role as boxer Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" films as well as his time as an NFL linebacker for the then-Oakland Raiders, was posthumously honored during a ceremony by his dear friends in Hollywood and sports, including Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, actress Bryce Dallas Howard and actor LeVar Burton. Carl Weathers' sons Matthew Weathers and Jason Weathers, as well as his partner Christine Kludjian, also paid tribute to him in moving speeches. "My father was an individual with dreams and aspirations," Matthew Weathers said in his speech. "He knew what he wanted at a very young age. He told me on numerous occasions that if he had some money in his pocket as a young man, he'd go to the movies." A picture of Carl Weathers, the late actor renowned for his iconic roles in films such as "Rocky," is displayed on his star as he is honored posthumously on the Walk of Fame. A picture of Carl Weathers, the late actor renowned for his iconic roles in films such as "Rocky," is displayed on his star as he is honored posthumously on the Walk of Fame. "Not a lot of people have the opportunity to do what he did," he added of his father's illustrious career. "He was proud of what he created. So am I. It's hard to imagine that he's not here." Jason Weathers echoed his brother's words about their father and said that he's "so proud" of him. "I wish he could be here to experience this," he continued. "I know he was looking forward to this -- over 50 years in Hollywood, in his career, and now to be immortalized with a star is just truly wonderful." Along with the "Rocky" films, Carl Weathers starred in "Happy Gilmore" alongside Adam Sandler, "Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and more. More recently, he played Greef Karga in the Disney+ series "The Mandalorian" and directed several episodes of the show. Howard, who worked as a director on "The Mandalorian" alongside Carl Weathers, called him a "titan of a man." "Carl was not only one of the central stars of 'The Mandalorian,' he was also one of the show's regular directors," she said. "It astonished me how effortlessly he wore both hats. It was truly remarkable to spin both those plates, acting and directing." "Carl did it with grace, ease and enthusiasm," she added. Burton, meanwhile, called Carl Weathers "the embodiment of a good man." "Carl was also an icon," he added. "A legend. Apollo Creed will go down in history as one of the most popular figures in entertainment history and that is due to the charisma and talent of Carl Weathers." Here's the youtube clip with those speeches... https://www.youtube.com/live/QdVMklVyGK0?si=CH5OPTwMgwsK5-DI&t=1589 I share this information as an old friend of Carl's and some family members and I talked about me sharing this interview later on in the day. It's an example of how easy it is to speak to our loved ones offstage.  Jennifer is very talented at what she does, and because I knew Carl well, as well as the other questions I ask during this podcast, I know that we're hearing new information from someone offstage. Hoy rascaremos para sacar a relucir los acontecimientos más importantes de la vida de Carl Weathers, que por el nombre ya se pueden bajar en el “quién es quién” a los blancos y a los asiáticos. Hoy recordaremos a Apollo Creed.

In this episode of Bring the Pain, I talk about the recent passing of Carl Weathers. Weathers was an amazing actor who was best-known for Apollo Creed for the Rocky series. Outside of his iconic role as Apollo, Weathers was also recently featured in the Mandalorian series on Disney Plus, in which he played a pivotal character named Greef Karga. With him gone now, the series will have to make a change, but we will always remember all of his other roles like Action Jackson or when he played Dillon in the Predator. My condolences go out to his family and friends plus the millions that loved what Carl brought to the table for anything he was in or created. Have a great day, everyone, and always love everyday like "there is no tomorrow."R.I.P Carl Weathers ❤

When he was announced as a member of the cast of The Mandalorian in 2019, it seemed so strange that we had gone so long without Apollo Creed as a part of the Star Wars saga, as it seemed such a perfect fit. The Mandalorian finds a vent into the sewers, where he hopes to find his people's hidden stronghold. Moff Gideon gives them until nightfall to surrender, or he will order his troops to fire, before saying Din Djarin, the Mandalorian's real name. MARC The Mandalorian recognizes Gideon, who had been an officer of the Empire's secret police when the Empire took over Mandalore. IG-11 arrives on a Scout Trooper's bike with the Child, blasting through the stormtroopers. The Mandalorian takes down several more, but is badly wounded by Gideon. As the group take cover inside, Gideon orders a Flametrooper to incinerate them, but the Child uses the Force to reflect the flames and kill the trooper. MIKEY The Mandalorian and IG-11 remain behind while Dune and Karga take the Child into the sewers. Pointing out that a Mandalorian's face being seen is technically not a violation of the Mandalorian creed, as he is a droid and not a living thing, IG-11 removes the Mandalorian's helmet, revealing the latter's face for the first time. After treating his injuries they then rejoin the others in the sewers. MARC Arriving at the Mandalorian enclave, they find it abandoned except for the Armorer, who explains that the Imperials found the enclave when the Mandalorians revealed themselves. Upon seeing the Child, the Armorer is reminded of the Jedi, whom Mandalorians see as their ancient enemies. She instructs the Mandalorian to take the Child to the Jedi, wherever they might be; she also carves a Mudhorn signet into his pauldron and gives him a jetpack. MIKEY While the Armorer remains behind, the Mandalorian, Dune, Karga, IG-11, and the Child escape down an underground lava river. IG-11 decides to sacrifice himself by walking into an ambush and activating his self-destruct. After they emerge from the tunnel, Gideon attacks in the TIE fighter in which he arrived. Using his jetpack, the Mandalorian plants explosives on Gideon's fighter, which brings down the craft. MARC With the Imperials seemingly dealt with, Karga invites the Mandalorian to return to the Guild, but he refuses as he must take care of the Child. Dune elects to remain behind to work as Karga's enforcer. The Mandalorian buries Kuiil's body beneath a cairn of stones and departs Nevarro. Meanwhile, Gideon cuts himself out of the crashed fighter with the Darksaber. THANK YOU PATRONS Mikey: Marc and I make our living as full-time musicians. Bo-Katan and her reconnaissance squad retreat from Moff Gideon's base. Upon returning to the Mandalorian flagship, Axe Woves sends the remaining Mandalorians to reinforce the planetary troops, while he defends the ship from Imperial TIE squadrons. With assistance from Grogu, Din Djarin escapes from captivity and seeks out Gideon. Djarin and Grogu discover cloning tanks filled with clones of Gideon, and Djarin destroys them. After a lengthy skirmish between the Mandalorians and the beskar-enhanced stormtroopers within the base, Bo-Katan, Djarin, and Grogu make a final stand against Gideon and his Praetorian Guards, in which the Darksaber is destroyed. Woves rams the Mandalorian capital ship into the Imperial base and Gideon is consumed by the resulting blast; Grogu protects Bo-Katan and Djarin from the blast with a force bubble. After the battle, the Mandalorians restart the Great Forge at the heart of Mandalore and Djarin formally adopts Grogu. Afterwards, Djarin takes up honest contract work with Carson Teva and moves into a cabin on the outskirts of Nevarro's capital, as previously offered to him by Greef Karga, while IG-11 is rebuilt by the Anzellan mechanics to serve as Nevarro's new marshal.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Elia Kane informs Moff Gideon of the Mandalorians' intent to retake their planet. Gideon relays this information to the Shadow Council, a group of Imperial remnant warlords. He requests reinforcements from them and questions Captain Pellaeon on the absence of Grand Admiral Thrawn, suggesting that the Council should choose a new leader. Reassembling on Nevarro, Bo-Katan unites the Mandalorian clans and prepares a recon party to explore the surface of Mandalore. Prior to leaving, Greef Karga presents Din Djarin with IG-12: a rebuilt version of IG-11, which is able to be controlled by Grogu. On Mandalore, the group meets up with another clan, who is loyal to Bo-Katan. Bo-Katan admits she surrendered to Gideon near the end of the Great Purge, hoping that the Empire would spare the Mandalorians. The party finds the Great Forge but is ambushed by Gideon's beskar-enhanced stormtroopers. Djarin is captured by Gideon, who reveals his intent to create a new army of Dark Troopers. He attempts to kill the remaining Mandalorians, but Bo-Katan uses the Darksaber to make an escape for the group, with Paz Vizsla staying behind to buy time. Welcome to another installment of our reviews show. For this episode, Ian and Marx are joined by special guest reviewer Jeff Burns who is best known as the host and creator of the popular Youtube Channel Supergeekedup. We're playing catch-up during the first few minutes of this episode as we finally get to talk a bit about the season finales of The Last of Us and Wolfpack, which we thought was a really good show. When it comes to The Last of Us Marx and Ian agreed that the series was really strong when it came to its character development. We also talked about some of the differences between The Last of Us and The Walking Dead. This led to an interesting discussion about video game adaptations. Moving on to Star Trek: Picard we chatted about Dominion and pointed out some ways in which the show's changelings differ from the ones we saw in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Jeff who has only watched the first two episodes of Star Trek: Picard hasn't been particularly impressed with the series and shares his take on the show. This leads to a great discussion about Star Trek, which touches on some of what has been happening on Picard, bit also extends to some of the things that have been happening in the Star Trek comics. Other shows up for discussion include Superman and Lois, Quantum Leap and more. But we round out the hour by chatting about The Mandalorian and how much we enjoyed the episode Pirates in which The Mandalorians help out Greef Karga when his town on Nevarro is attacked by Pirates. We discuss the actions in the show and try to figure out how it is that Katee Sackhoff's character of Bo-Katan is not sweating when she removes her Mandalorian Helmet. Suspecting that the attack is a prelude to a new rise of the Empire, Teva informs Colonel Tuttle. But when Tuttle shows indifference, he tracks down the Mandalorian covert and asks Din Djarin for help. Djarin convinces the covert to come to Karga's aid despite their prior confrontations with him, and Bo-Katan assumes command of the attack force. As the Mandalorians overcome the pirates, Vane flees, Shard is killed, and the remaining ones are detained. The Mandalorians are welcomed back by Karga and the people, and move back into their old enclave. The Armorer meets with Bo-Katan, acknowledging the Mythosaur's reappearance as an omen that Bo-Katan is the one who can reunite all Mandalorians, and bids her to remove her helmet to symbolize this new position. On his way back to Adelphi, Teva encounters the wreckage of Moff Gideon's prison transport which had gone missing during transit. He also finds a fragment of beskar alloy, implying that Mandalorians have broken Gideon out.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Armorer and group of Mandalorians hold a ceremony to induct a young child into the tribe. The ceremony is interrupted when a Dinosaur Turtle attacks the Mandalorians. They fight back, but are soon overpowered. Din Djarin arrives, killing the creature with his starfighter and revealing that Grogu has chosen to stay with him.[a] The Armorer confirms that if the mines of Mandalore still exist, Djarin may become a Mandalorian once more. Djarin travels to Nevarro to meet Greef Karga who is now the High Magistrate. Djarin helps Karga stop a group of pirates led by Vane who have been attacking citizens and schools on Nevarro. Karga offers Djarin the newly vacated position of marshal, but Djarin refuses, stating that he came to rebuild IG-11. Djarin successfully revives IG-11, but the droid defaults to his original, violent programming. Djarin brings his parts to a group of Anzellan mechanics, who tell him that they need a new memory core to fully repair the droid. As Djarin leaves Nevarro, the pirate crew led by Vane's superior Gorian Shard attacks his ship, but he destroys several of their fighters and escapes. Djarin meets with Bo-Katan in an old Mandalorian castle, who reveals that after losing the Darksaber, she has abandoned her plans to reclaim Mandalore and suggests that Djarin should travel there alone.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Last time, on The Mandalorian... Well, LUKE showed up for one. For those in the know, Din Djarin and Grogu got the band back together in the "offseason" which was actually the end of The Book of Boba Fett's season. I'm not talking post-credit scenes, either. There are purgill and space gators and monkey lizards and bat things and maybe even convors. Protocol droids abound. Anzellans steal screen time and Greef Karga makes his best pitch for a lawman even though he's still quick on the draw. A mossy pirate king graces our presence and no one wants Mando around, even if Grogu is still cutest thing around. What's the deal with the Bible, too? It's the first reaction and recap of the season, but we call it our "discussion" edition of the podcast. We'd LIKE to have a feedback episode, but that requires your help! Welcome to Challenge Accepted where we review the season three premiere of The Mandalorian, titled "The Apostate". In this episode, we dive into the adventure-filled world of the Mandalorian as we follow the journey of Din Djarin and Grogu navigating the galaxy and learning the ways of the Mandalorian. "The Apostate" is a much-needed palate cleanser after the duo's stint in The Book of Boba Fett. The episode is deliberately paced with some bursts of action, providing some enticing setups for the rest of the season. The sun-drenched opening sequence with the Armorer and the Tribe's helmet bestowment ceremony re-establishes the importance of a Mandalorian's oath to never remove one's helmet, underlining this year's quest. This episode offers some deep-seated philosophical quandaries at the heart of Din's desire for atonement and redemption with his clan of religious zealots vs. his clear need for connection, at least with Grogu, that's the reason he revealed his face in the first place. Hopefully, his pilgrimage to Mandalore will address these bigger questions. We also see the brief respites of Din and Grogu sitting together, providing heart-wrenching moments for fans of the series. Pedro Pascal's ability to tell a soulful story without the use of his face speaks to how great he is as an actor. The return to Nevarro and reunion with Carl Weathers' Greef Karga adds a sense of scope to Din and Grogu's journey to this point, reminding us of how much time has passed since season 1. Learning that Mando is insistent on rebuilding IG-11 is fantastic news, as the fan-favorite droid was one of the very best things about the first season. The world-building is impeccable, with attention to detail in the different droids and species we see on Nevarro, making it feel alive. Mando's starship fight with the pirates in the asteroid field is a lot of fun, letting us see his Naboo starfighter in combat for the first time. The tense meeting between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze in Kalevala keeps the story moving, as these two have some serious philosophical differences about what it means to be a Mandalorian. It's almost inevitable that they'll one day do battle not just for the Darksaber but for perceived moral high ground. Overall, "The Apostate" is a thrilling and adventurous start to the third season of The Mandalorian, and we can't wait to see where the journey takes us next. This is Pete Fletzer and welcome to Disturbances in the Force. www.ATGcast.comPatreon.com/ATGcast@ATGcastYouTube.com/ATGcast(c) 2022 Pete in the Seat StudionsSo Let's get to it.

1. D23, the annual Disney Fan Expo, will take place later this year at the Anaheim Convention Center – the same location as Star Wars Celebration a few weeks ago. The event features experiences, exclusive merch and inside looks at all things Disney – which of course includes the Star Wars franchise. On Saturday September 10th, D23 will feature a panel that includes both Marvel and Lucasfilm. The official announcement states QUOTE “Filmmakers, celebrity talent, and surprise guests will join representatives from Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, among others, onstage to showcase theatrical and Disney+ titles. Going behind the scenes of these studios' highly anticipated films, specials, and series, attendees will see exclusive footage and be among the first to learn what else is in the works.” While there is no specific mention of what will be shown, D23 has, in the past, been the place where projects such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series have been announced. D23 takes place September 9th through the 11th2. YouTube channel DisInsider dropped some rumored news this week regarding the upcoming Disney plus Star Wars series Acolyte. Derek Cornell of the site claims that some Star Wars Legends characters could be introduced into live action on the Leslye Hedland helmed show. He claims that Darth Bane, Malak, Revan and Nihilus could make an appearance in the yet to shot series. He also claimed that the DisneyLand and DisneyWorld Galaxy's Edge Location – the Planet Batuu – could be making an appearance in an upcoming show as well. He speculated it could be the newly announced Skeleton Crew or the Ahsoka series. There are no official Lucasfilm statements on any of these rumors at this time.3. The cast of the Mandalorian spoke to Entertainment Tonight this week and they gave some indication that the third season of the show will be expanding the universe as well as taking on a more dramatic tone. Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Karga and is also directing an episode in season 3, said “it has a lot more heft, it's so dense but full of character. [The new episodes] had a lot more opportunity for depth. Each of these characters has so much story within their own personal story. As an audience, you get to see just little glimmers of things that we didn't realize about them.” Katee Sackoff, aka Bo Katan said, ““She's not done. [Bo-Katan refusing the darksaber] makes us question, it makes her question, ‘What's different? Why not now?' And that's important. She's still on that journey, you know, from the first time that we met her when she was very young and impressionable. And she's been continuing to evolve and grow and figure out who she is.” You can find the full article on ET.com. The Mandalorian Season 3 drops in February 2023.4. The marketing campaign for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show continued this week with another edition of Obi-Wan Wednesdays. Each week from now through June 29, Star Wars dot com will feature new products inspired by the DisneyPlus series. This week, they unveiled a funko pop of Tala Durith, the Imperial officer turned Jedi trafficker. Hasbro dropped 5 new Retro series 3 point 7 5 inch action figures designed to capture the style of the original 70s and 80s toys. They include Obi-Wan, the droid Ned B, the Grand Inquisitor, Darth Vader and the Fifth  brother. Lego ALSO unveiled a new playset that recreates the duel between Vader and Obi-Wan on Mapuzo from Part 3 of the series. It includes minifigs of Kenobi, Vader, Ned B and Tala. Finally, a plush version of Leia's droid companion, LO-LA is available for pre-order by Mattel. Visit ObiWanWednesdays.com for these items and previous merchandise that is now available.5. Obi-Wan Kenobi series writer Joby Harold spoke to the Hollywood Reporter earlier this week and he shared some insight to Moses Ingram's character, the third sister, aka Reva. He told THR QUOTE: “I love that Reva is this mystery box, so I try to speak to her as little as possible, and I'm going to keep it that way. But the notion of having a character that we don't know on a legacy show where we do know everything and everybody is part of the fun of the show. So the less said about her, the better, considering there are very few people and places where you don't know what's happening.” Part 5 of Obi-Wan Kenobi drops Wednesday, June 15 on Disney plus Thanks for listening and may the force be with you! https://www.etonline.com/the-mandalorian-cast-teases-dark-and-even-better-season-3-coming-in-2023-exclusive-185232

The band was formed in 2012 when a few longtime friends and high school classmates got together in a basement to cover their favorite songs. As the band grew and evolved they traded covers for original music and began to develop a live improvisational chemistry that would come to define their sound. They released their debut self-titled EP in January 2015, a blues and garage-rock influenced set that compiles four highlights from the band's early material. After the EP's release, the band took a drastic sonic turn, opting for more lush, mellow, and psychedelic textures. This week's episode of the Mandalorian is titled: The Siege. It was Carl Weathers directorial debut for the show and he outdid himself both climatically and in homages to the original trilogy. We follow Mando and the Child back to Nevarro for repairs on the Razor Crest, which is literally falling apart. They reunite with Cara Dune (now the acting Marshal) and Greef Karga. As Din Djarin waits for repairs to be completed, he helps Dune and Karga infiltrate and take down an Imperial base. Once this base is destroyed, Nevarro will finally be truly safe and free. Inside we find more revelations regarding Moff Gideon's plans, what Dr. Pershing has been working on, and how our sweet Baby Yoda fits into all of their schemes and experiments. We discuss the show, the Easter eggs, the impact on the story and lore as this season continues to ramp up and raise the bar. We're in for an amazing season if we keep on the trajectory the last few episodes have launched and we'll be right there to help guide you through it and flesh out the deeper aspects of the show. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Steph Sabraw (@stephsabraw), Ryan Nilsen (@rynilsen), Xia Anderson (@xia_land) & Christian Bladt (@cristianDMZ) break down “The Reckoning”.  Episode Synopsis below (spoilers) The Mandalorian receives a message from Greef Karga. Karga's town has been overrun by Imperial troops led by the Client, who is desperate to recover the Child. Karga proposes that the Mandalorian use the Child as bait in order to kill the Client and free the town. In return, Karga will square things with the Guild, which would allow the Mandalorian and the Child to live in peace. Sensing a trap, the Mandalorian recruits Cara Dune and Kuiil the Ugnaught to assist him. Kuill has also rebuilt and reprogrammed IG-11, and the group journeys to Nevarro. Upon arrival they meet Karga and his associates, but en route to the town are attacked by Mynocks. Karga is injured but the Child uses the force to heal his wound. In return, Karga shoots his associates and explains his original plan to kill the Mandalorian and take the Child to the Client. The group formulates a new plan: Karga will pretend that Dune captured the Mandalorian, and all three will enter the town to meet the Client. Meanwhile, Kuiil will return the Child to the ship. During the meeting, the Client receives a call from Moff Gideon, whose troops surround the building and open fire, killing the Client. Gideon arrives and boasts that the Child will soon be in his possession. In the desert outside town, scout troopers track and kill Kuiil and kidnap the Child.
