I took a serious vow 10 weeks ago. I vowed to embrace adventure over chaos for the summer. I embraced this mission with all my heart. I had a strategic plan. I had a support crew. I had hope. And even with all that, this mission was HARD. There is no denying that there were moments of magic this summer. There were plenty of those. And for that, I’m beyond grateful. But I’m ending this season exhausted and in need of rest and reflection to figure out how I can do better next year. Even in the face of fatigue, there were some valuable takeaways from my “adventure over chaos” mission. I learned: I can be wildly productive in short stints of time if that’s all I have I can keep my business growing outside of the structure and routine I typically thrive in I can ask for help and everyone will immediately lean in to help me I can compartmentalize work and play more than I thought I could (barely, lol) My simple routines keep me grounded, even in chaos (morning practice and workouts, mainly) In the absence of full days to myself, small blocks of restorative time make a big difference I’m not as immune to mom guilt as I thought I was Listen in to this full episode if you’re also recovering from a season of overwhelm OR approaching a season of overwhelm. Carol Gavhane is co-founder of Asha Blooms, a handcrafted purposeful jewelry company dedicated to inspiring and uplifting people. Born out of her walk with secondary infertility, she and her husband created this business once it dawned on them that words and intentions really do matter. Each piece of jewelry is tied to a specific intention, and it’s their vision that others see themselves for who they already are – whole, loved, complete, courageous and renewed. Everything about their first child was fairly typical, but trying to add to the family afterwards was incredibly difficult. During those years, they tried everything under the sun to get or sustain pregnancy - clean eating, support groups, fertility yoga, acupuncture, meditation, negotiations with God, many visits to the fertility clinic, and so on. These services absolutely helped as they provided comfort or bits of positivity, but there were many dark days thrown in the mix. During this journey, Carol found a fertility bracelet that became a beacon of hope, a daily wearable reminder to continue on, which she did for nearly three years. Looking back, Carol credits science, hope, and intention with the creation of baby Henry. I had the opportunity to meet Carol a couple months ago through a colleague and our connection was instant and deep. I relate to so much of her story. I know a lot of other mamas out there are with Carol and me, as well. Listen in to hear Carol share: What secondary infertility is and how it flipped her life upside down for 3 years What infertility looks like on the outside vs. the inside of a woman's body and demeanor How she found hope and comfort in an unlikely place What inspired her to start a jewelry company and the special meaning behind her work Links Mentioned: Connect with Carol and see her gorgeous Asha Blooms jewelry Asha Blooms on Instagram Asha Blooms on Facebook Thank you to our sponsors: Stamps: Right now, my listeners get a special offer that includes a 4-week trial PLUS free postage AND a digital scale without any long-term commitment. Susie Pettit has been helping women live lives they love for over 10 years. She is the host of the podcast Love Your Life Show and owner of the Wellness Company Strength: Mind & Body, LLC. She is a certified Life + Wellness Coach and a mom of 3 teenage sons. Susie is passionate about helping women live lives that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. She spent more than half her life living a life she did not love; as a people pleaser, codependent perfectionist, trying desperately to win an award for ‘Martyr of the Year’. Luckily she hit rock bottom and now has the breadth of experience to teach first hand about setting healthy boundaries, beating your inner critic, conscious parenting, and how to use mindfulness-based tools to beat overwhelm and anxiety. She uses two foundational frameworks: Her 5 Pillars of Wellness and the Thought Model. Listen in to hear Susie share: Being raised by my controlling and manipulative parents and building a life based on their standards, not her own identity How she stopped looking for external validation All her worst fears came true, she hit rock bottom, and she rose from the ashes How people pleasers are actually people deceivers The thought-model around the think-feel-act loop that gives you control in the most challenging moments in your life and how to use the “power pause” Why having no contact with her parents and siblings is the most loving relationship she can have with them How to increase your emotional intelligence and emotional literacy How to get out of your own way during challenging communication with others When you should treat your parents like toddlers - yes, really... I’m so excited to welcome Shannon Jamail back to the SMA. I invited Shannon to come back to the show because I wanted to talk about her book, Surrender. In the book, she shares how she conscientiously moved out of fear, anxiety, stress, negative thinking, judgment, and imposter syndrome and into forgiveness, surrender, love, joy, and purpose. Every chapter has a powerful story/experience from Shannon’s life, coupled with her lessons learned and actionable steps that are very accessible to the reader (you and me!) I found the book to be so helpful to me, especially when it comes to forgiveness and moving forward from the stuckness that old resentments keep you in. Listen in to hear Shannon share: How she had to apply her own principles of SURRENDER to her own life after she burned down her own kitchen (literally) How to embrace and move through anxiety and shift into a “Do it afraid” mindset How to move past resentment and into forgiveness in family relationships Active steps to forgiving someone How to more actively choose LOVE in your life and the universal truths to choosing love Links Mentioned: Connect with Shannon: Mind-Body Complete (use the code SHAMELESS10 to save 10% off Shannon’s shop/book/retreats!) With just a few days left in 2018, I wanted to take a minute to reflect on my biggest shifts of the year. I have to tell you, when I sat down to think about this I had no idea what I would come up with. I am so glad I did this exercise, as it allowed me to see a lot of growth and triumph. I can close the door on this year knowing I stretched myself in a number of powerful ways and I’ve laid the groundwork to do more of the same in 2019. Cause a girl’s growing is never done! I’m really excited to share my 5 Biggest Shift of 2018 with you. Although, if I’m being honest, a couple of these made me pretty uncomfortable, which you’ll hear me express as I talk through them. In fact, one of them I didn’t even want to talk about. But you know I’m not about holding back. So you get to be in on ALL OF IT. What have your biggest shifts in 2018 been? Like most women, I spent a lot of my life trying to blend in. I wanted to be the same as all the people around me. In fact, I hated that I had red hair and freckles for my entire childhood. I didn’t like looking different. However, today, as a 42-year-old woman, mom, wife, entrepreneur, I LOVE standing out. I love being my own unique person. I love being recognized for what makes me different. I love my red hair and freckles (and I get super offended with certain skin care companies say they have creams to minimize/lighten freckles – WTF?!? Not cool.) I’ve come a long way in owning my differences, embracing my oddities, and sharing my true self. And the result has been magical – as now I attract all the best people into my life. When I was trying to blend in I had a lot of relationships that were NOT satisfying. Sometimes I felt misunderstood and like I needed to hide parts of myself. No more. Now I let my freak flag fly and the people I attract people have many of the same values as me, and often the same interests (Real Housewives, entrepreneurship, fitness, personal and professional development, mental health awareness). I actually build friendships around geeking out on common interests instead of pretending to like what someone else likes. And, it’s SO MUCH BETTER. Who knew??? Listen in to this episode to learn 4 ways you can let your freak flag fly and how flying your freak flag will change the dynamics of your relationships. One of the things I am most convinced of in life is our ability to control our outcomes by controlling our thoughts. If you think positive and powerful thoughts, you will do positive and powerful things. If your thoughts are filled with self-doubt and harsh judgment of your abilities, you will likely find yourself stuck in a place you don’t know how to move out of. This isn’t to say changing your thoughts comes easily. It doesn’t. But it comes steadily with small investments in critical thinking and intentional integration. Harv Eker says, “No thought lives in your head rent-free.” Each thought you have will either be an investment or a cost. It will either move your toward happiness and success or away from it. It will either empower you or disempower you. That’s why it’s imperative you choose your thoughts and beliefs wisely.” One of the biggest responsibilities you have to yourself is to manage your thoughts in a manner that allows you to live a life you feel proud of, that you feel at peace with, and that you feel in charge of. Listen in to learn how to better manage your thoughts in order to get the outcomes you really want in life. If you need help and ongoing support with any of this, make sure to check out our MOMENTUM Mamas program. Registration is open with discount pricing this week only. This program promises to make you a BOSS of your thoughts. I’m going to be a little controversial here and tell you that if you feel you don’t have enough time in your day, it’s your own fault. I don’t say this because I doubt you are super busy. I know you have a lot of balls in the air. I totally get it. But I also know that the constant overwhelm of busyness is usually due to two things: Taking on too many things and not being clear on what you need to say no to Poor planning/use of the precious time you have I don’t say any of this to point fingers or place blame, as I don’t think I’ve ever met a mom who didn’t struggle with this. So, I promise, we are all in this together. How about we get serious about owning out time and feeling in control of our days, shall we? Listen in as I give you 6 proven tiny tweaks to help you better manage your day and increase your productivity. Warning: the implementation of any one of these tweaks will ease your overwhelm tremendously. Be prepared to feel lighter and more free almost immediately.
