HOW TO MAKE YOUR PODCAST PROFITABLE So many coaches struggle to make their podcast profitable, because they don't have a strategy. A strategy doesn't need to be complicated. It simply needs to be effective. PROFITABLE STRATEGY Many podcasters try to monetize their podcast with ads and sponsorships. MRI-Simmons just released data on podcast listening as it pertains to podcast ads. In the research, 42% of listeners surveyed say they will skip the ad if it is for something they don't care about. 22% of those surveyed say they will skip if they don't support the brand being marketed. More importantly, 27% said they skip ads no matter what. That means over a quarter of your listeners don't want to hear the ads. Commercials are a negative experience for your show. It also doesn't benefit your advertiser. Why would you do that to your podcast? BETTER STRATEGY Rather than attempting to be profitable using ads and sponsors, use your podcast as a marketing vehicle for your own goods and services. Create great content on your show that will show your listeners what is possible for them. Let the content lead to the first step in working with you. This could be a lead magnet, webinar or other resource. Next, get listeners from that first step to a sales conversation. That might be a discovery call, long form sales video, or masterclass. Finally, enroll them in your program. Each piece needs to work together to be profitable. WORKSHOP I recently held a workshop to help coaches launch their profitable podcast. During that workshop, we discussed three powerful ways to attract your ideal clients with your podcast. Today, I'll share with you a bit of that workshop to show you those three ways to be profitable. Enjoy. But more importantly, take action. DON'T COMPLICATE IT Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. After you produce and publish the episode, we need to promote it. We need to go out and tell everybody it's available and bring your audience into your world. Find your ideal target listener. Get clear on exactly who you're helping. Figure out where we can find them, go get in front of them and bring them into your world. PROMOTE So how do we promote it? We could promote it on social media. You can go get on other podcasts and promote it there. Promote it through your email list. There's a variety of ways to promote it. When you promote your show, there are two ways to grow your audience. You need to keep your current listeners coming back, and you need to go out and find new listeners who are unaware of you and bring them into your audience. You have to serve both sides of that equation. The podcast builds into your funnel, so you're creating content to show your listeners what's possible, getting them to take that first step with you by getting your free resource. And that free resource leads to your sales conversation. That could be a webinar or a strategy call, a discovery call, a long form sales video, wherever your sales conversation happens. But a lot of people who create podcasts and teach you how to create podcasts don't teach you a strategy to take your listeners and convert them into clients. They just say, "Talk about whatever you want to talk about. Go interview great people." GROW YOUR PROFITABLE BUSINESS I've had a lot of coaches come to me and say, "Erik, my podcast isn't doing anything to grow my business." When we dig into it, it's this step right here. They don't have a system in place that converts listeners to clients. They're doing a great job interviewing guests, but they have no point or strategy to be profitable. There's no reason, there's no automatic connection from the interview to working with them. And that's what I help clients do. PROFITABLE STEP-BY-STEP So, let's talk a little bit about that. Challenge number two that I talked about is they don't have a strategy. They don't have a step by step process to attract clients with their show. There are many, many ways to attract your clients with your podcast. I'm going to give you three of my favorite. There are others as well. These are not by any means an exhaustive list on how to create clients with your podcast. But I'm going to give you three. AUDIENCE The first way to attract your ideal clients is to turn your listeners into clients. That's probably the most obvious way. Build an audience, convert them to clients. This is Oscar Trimboli. Oscar's podcast is called Deep Listening Impact Beyond Words. Deep Listening is both his podcast and his business. Oscar is a mentor. He's a leadership coach, a speaker. He's an author. He's a podcaster. His book is called Deep Listening Impact Beyond Words. Oscar helps CEOs and leaders be better listeners. Typical CEOs and leaders are type A personalities. They like to hear themselves talk. They like to tell people what to do. They don't listen very well. Oscar goes in and teaches them how to listen. His goal was to bring that authority and that power to his podcast. Now, when Oscar came to me, I listened to his podcast. He said, "Erik, my podcast isn't doing anything to grow my business. Can you help me out? I've done a complete series of episodes. I have 36 episodes in the can. I'm not getting any clients from it. What am I doing wrong?" I went and I listened to his show. Oscar is a great listener. He does a phenomenal job interviewing the CEOs that were on his show. But as I listened to his show, at no point in time did Oscar tell me what he does or invite me to work with him. And that's the problem most podcasters make. They do a great job interviewing their guest, but nowhere in the show does it tell me how I can work with them. MAKE THE CONNECTION They do a great job making their guests look amazing, but they don't do anything to make themselves look amazing. So we restructured Oscar's podcast. We infused more of Oscar into the show, demonstrated Oscar's expertise, and created a way to invite listeners to work with Oscar. We launched season two of his show in a whole new way, which used Oscar as the main focus and used his interviews to support what Oscar was teaching. And when we did that, it allowed Oscar to start gaining new clients. More importantly, he started building that know, like and trust with his audience, because his show was now focused on the same material that his teaching was focused on. It wasn't simply interviewing great guests. It was demonstrating his expertise and using his guests interviews to support what he was teaching. Now, Oscar has been named one of the top podcasts by Apple podcasts in his niche. He has been hired to be a keynote speaker at multiple organizations. He goes in, he conducts seminars and workshops at his organizations, and he's top of his game and knocking it out of the park. So proud of him and everything that he's accomplished simply by making a small tweak in his show. INVITE THEM I told you a little bit about TaVona Denise. She now does Conversations with TaVona Denise. She takes these nurses that she's been helping and brings them to a free workshop that she does through her podcast. Her podcast shows these nurses what's possible. Then she invites them to the workshop. Then the workshop upsells the nurses and invites them to come work with TaVona in a one on one coaching situation. She takes her listeners and converts them into clients. PROFITABLE POTENTIAL My second favorite way to grow your business with your podcast is to interview potential clients. So many times, we try and get our potential clients to take our call or to get on a conversation with us, and we just can't make that happen. There's too many gatekeepers. Or they have their guard up, and they don't want to let you in. OPEN DOORS Zoe Routh came to me. She's an expert on people stuff. Zoe is a consultant. She helps businesses break down the silos that exist in their business so departments can work better together. However, she was having a tough time getting through the gatekeeper to reach the decision maker in these businesses. When I started working with Zoe, I said, "Zoe, what kind of downloads are you getting? How many people are listening to your show?" She said, "Erik, I don't even know. I don't even care about that." Zoe says, "That's not why I use my podcast." She says, "I use my podcast to open doors to people who won't normally take my call. Rather than inviting them to a sales call or to have coffee or a quick meeting with me. I reach out to them and invite them on my podcast and I use that opportunity to build a relationship with them, because I email them to invite them on the show. Then I email them to give them all the details about what the interview will be about and when it will happen and schedule the interview. And we build a relationship there. We have the conversation where we actually conduct the interview, and then we have a follow up conversation after that when the interview is posted so they can share it with their audience. So by the time the process is over, I've had four or five conversations with them. We've built a relationship and now they will take my call to discuss working together because they've already got to know who I am and what I do." Interviewing your prospective clients on your show is an amazing way to grow your business. AUTHORS This is Jedlie. He's one of my clients. Jedlie is a clown and a magician. Jedlie used to do magic shows for schools. He'd go in and teach antibullying to schools, loves working with kids. He has now launched his podcast called Reading With Your Kids where he helps children's authors get exposure. He will interview these authors on his show, but his authors buy into his program. So these authors' books become certified. A Reading With Your Kids certified book. He finds books that he loves, that he wants to certify. He has a certification process where he puts a sticker on the front of the books they're certified. Reading With Your Kids certified. He interviews the authors and all of these people buy into his program that he's interviewing on his show. He interviews the authors as part of the package that he sells. It's a way to use your podcast to interview prospective clients. PROFITABLE PARTNERS And then the third way that I love to monetize your show and to grow your business is to interview your partners. These are partners that are promoting you or your JV partners that you're promoting them. Sadie and Sausha came to me to launch their podcast. It's called Meathead Test Kitchen. These two love working out. They're tattooed and when you listen to the show, you get exactly what you think you're going to get. They love working out. They love exercise. They love fitness. That's what it's all about on their show. They talk about what they use in their fitness routine. So all of the equipment that they use, all of the supplements and nutrients that they use, the healthy cookbooks and recipe ideas that they use. Then over on their website, they have fulfilled by Amazon connections and links on their website where you can buy all of the things they talk about on their show. So they're not producing anything, they're just selling it through their website. And they're growing their business in that way, talking about what they love selling products. PROFITABLE COACHES Marc Mawhinney runs Natural Born Coaches podcast. He interviews his JV partners, then he does a webinar with them. People buy into his JV package. If you go to JVwithMarc.com, you'll see all of his details. You buy into a package and being interviewed on his show is part of the package. Getting interviewed in his Facebook group is part of the package. Being on a webinar with Marc to his audience is part of the package. He interviews potential clients on the show, and that's how he uses it to grow his business. CAN YOU SEE THE POTENTIAL Can you see how some of these ideas can help grow your profitable business and attract your ideal clients? Can you see how you can use podcasting in one of these three ways so you can get out and start making that connection with your audience. How you can build that relationship with them and bring them into what you do, showing them how you can help them? And whether it's turning your listeners into clients, or you're interviewing prospective clients or your interviewing partners, there's multiple ways you can use podcasting to grow your profitable business, attract your ideal clients, and really take your coaching programs to the next level. LET'S TALK Can you see the profitable possibilities for your business? I would love to give you a free strategy call to help you build a system to make you profitable. There are no strings attached. We discuss you goals, determine where you are today, and build your system to reach your goals. If you'd like help implementing that plan, we can discuss how that looks. The first step to grow your audience is obvious. You've heard it many times before. But, it is likely you have done it thoroughly enough. Maybe you've done it, but it has been a long time since you've considered it. YOUR FILTER This critical step serves as the filter for all of your content. It makes your audience growth strategy crystal clear. When you've completed the step, you'll know exactly which experts will make the perfect partners. If you hope to grow your podcast audience, your first step is to identify your ideal listener. And your ideal listener isn't entrepreneurs, or athletes, or anyone who wants to invest, or Christians. You don't have enough time, energy and money to find "anyone who wants to invest". That is everyone. You can't afford to reach everyone. THE RADIO AUDIENCE When I first started in radio in the late 80s, my first full-time gig was doing overnights at a Hot Adult Contemporary station. We basically played top 40 music after it was deemed same enough for your mom. Let's say I tell you we target moms between 25- and 45-years-old. Can you picture her in your head? Do you know where to find her online? Do you know what she needs, wants and fears? Our ideal listener wanted to be cool, but not so cool that she was listening to the lastest hits from some brand new artists. After Bobby Brown and Paula Abdul became superstars on Top 40 back in the late 80s, they were safe enough for Hot AC. At this radio station, we targeted a 36-year-old woman who worked in healthcare. She had a college degree. Our ideal listener was married, and had 2 kids. One kid was in middle school and one in grade school. Combined, her household income was $80,000 a year. She loved music when she was younger, but with kids was unable to keep up with the latest and newest bands. Most of her discretionary income was spent on family activities with the kids. The biggest fear of our listener was getting old and being the uncool mom. Turning into her mom was not something she wanted to do. So, she would attend two big concerts a year to stay connected and feel young. Can you envision her in your mind's eye? Do you have an understanding of what she needs and wants? How much clearer that definition than moms between 25- and 45-years-old? OUR FILTER Now that we had our ideal listener clearly defined, we knew what content to provide. We knew what music to play, what contests to conduct, and what topics to discuss. When it came to advertising our radio station, we knew exactly where to find her. We knew what television shows to advertise on and what events to sponsor. Everything we did went through that filter. As we develop our business around our podcast, we strive to build trust. In order to build trust, we must develop relationships with our listeners. In order to build the relationships, you need to know the person. Friendships are created when you truly know as much as possible about a person. This is the reason it is crucial that you define your single target listener. Think of your best friend. How much do you know about that person? Hometown, birthplace, high school, favorite food, pets, siblings, that time she got in trouble in college. I'm guessing you weren't there for every event. She probably told you the stories. It is about trust. AVATAR Many podcasters refer to their target listener as their avatar. This person is the single individual around which you create all of your content. To develop your business, you need to define your niche. Your focus on your niche helps grow your community. The ideal customers within that niche gives the focus the power. Many people use niche, target and avatar interchangably. The there are actually quite different. Your niche is a focused segment of a bigger market. In my radio example, our niche would be moms. The target audience is part of that niche who share similar demographics. In our example, our target are moms between 25- and 45-years-old who enjoy current, pop music. Your avatar or ideal client is a detailed profile of a single individual. In our example, our ideal listener is the woman we just described. You can download my free Ideal Target Listener Worksheet at PodcastTalentCoach.com/listener. ONE PERSON Your audience is comprised of individuals. Regardless of the number of listeners you have, you are creating one-on-one conversations with each of them. Audio is a very personal medium. Most people listen with headphones and while they are alone. You are literally in their head. Your listener is exercising, or walking the dog, or driving. And, they don't want to be by themselves. She listens to you for companionship. Talk to her that way. This is not a group of listeners. This is one, single listener. You cannot hit a target you can't see. Decide what the bullseye looks like. When you identify a single person so clearly that you can see him in your mind, you then know where to find him online. You can clearly speak to his struggles and challenges. NOT JUST NURSES TaVona Denise worked with me to build a strong foundation and a powerful "why" for her show. Part of that foundation was defining her ideal listener. TaVona worked as a nurse, but no longer loved the profession. She transitioned out of nursing into a new career and launched her own business. Soon, other nurses came to her asking how she did it. They also wanted to get out, but didn't know how. Nursing was no longer the career they imagined. She wasn't just coaching nurses. She was specifically helping burnd out nurses who wanted to get out and start their own venture. We then got so clear on her ideal client that she could picture that person in her head. TaVona began coaching these other nurses to make the transition and find the career they loved. This quickly became her purpose in life. We got perfectly clear on the woman she helped, what she helped them do and why. Their pains and struggles where perfectly clear. TaVona then built her show around helping these nurses launch their own businesses. After some time, TaVona realized it wasn't launching the business that was her passion. She wanted to help these women launch their next big thing. She pivoted a bit, and now coaches women while living the dream on the beaches in Mexico. That's was a clear focus on your ideal client can do for you. Creating a message that attracts your ideal client to your world is much easier when you have a crystal clear picture of her. Start by completing the free Ideal Target Listener Worksheet. You can download it at PodcastTalentCoach.com/listener. NOT GROUPS Your podcast is for people, not groups. You can learn more about your audience by using a survey like Survey Monkey. However, define the person you want to attract rather than people who are already in your audience. If you want to coach motivatied individuals who are willing to invest in themselves to launch their own business, but your audience is full of people got there looking for something for free and want to get rich quick, we don't want to find more people like them. Define your ideal client. Be careful that you ask questions that your audience will be comfortable answering. Specific income might be too personal. A range might be better. FILL YOUR AUDIENCE Once you have your ideal client clearly defined, you need to build a strategy to bring her to your show and convert her into a client. If you could fill your audience with your ideal clients who want exactly what you offer, how would that change your life? What could that pipeline of leads do for your business? Let me show you how to attract your ideal clients with a strategy. We often get stuck trying to start our next thing. Sometimes we don't know where to start. Other times we let the tech derail us. There are times we spend too much time learning and preparing. Most of the time, we don't start because we fail to determine the right next step and take action. Action, any action, is so powerful. One step will lead to the next. My mentor always says, "If you wait for all of the lights to turn green, you will never press the gas pedal." Perfect conditions rarely happen. Take the first step and start the next thing. START A PODCAST TaVona Denise wanted to launch a podcast to grow her coaching business. She was looking for a solid plan and foundation for growth. Her idea for the podcast would transform the people working in the healthcare industry. Tavona just needed help with content strategy, structure and launch. TaVona didn't know where to start. She told me she had the idea for awhile, but would always back out. Figuring out what to talk about always stopped her in her tracks. TaVona is a Physical therapist by trade. After leaving the traditional job, she had been doing burn out coaching for other therapists. She would help them start their wellness coaching business. There lies the issue. She had the idea for awhile, but didn't take action. Once we talked, we followed the step-by-step plan and launched in 30 days. TaVona has since pivoted the show. Instead of helping healthcare professionals start their coaching business, she now helps entrepreneurial women launch their next course, program or big thing. The plan wasn't perfect out of the gate. She got started and refined along the way. START GROWING A MEMBERSHIP Mary Elaine Petrucci helps women in the sandwich generation. These women are taking care of their family while also caring for an elderly parent or family member. Mary Elaine's goal was to grow her caregiver conference. She was also starting an evergreen program and membership. Her ultimate goal is to start a family foundation to advocate for health care needs. Mary Elaine said she had been on my list longer than she could remember. She just needed to start. Around Christmastime, Mary Elaine launched her podcast. She started doing interviews over the next 4 months. Unfortunately, full-time work and working on the conference took her away from the podcast. She couldn't find the time to start again. Mary Elaine finally called me in September. It was 9 months after starting and 6 months spinning her wheels trying to figure it out. We worked together and got her show back up and running. The podcast now promotes her conference, which she has put on a few times. She also now has a membership site as well. It all happened because she took action. Determine the next step and start. ATTRACTING CLIENTS Gobinder Gill is an expert in equity and diversity. His idea for a podcast would interview someone in HR or diversity. He would discuss the important workplace issues around diversity, equity and inclusion. The goal for podcast with Gobinder was to get the audience to understand the importance of diversity as an investment, not hinderance. Ultimately, the podcast would promote his business and educate employers. He does keynote talks, seminars, workshops, and other events. Gobinder was working to get referrals to grow the business. He also understood that the podcast could build his credibility. He would be able to demonstrate his authority and be known as someone who knows what he is talking about. Gobinder just didn't know where to start. He was doing a million things. He started in radio back in the day. Gobinder eventually spread out in journalism, writing for papers and working in television. He wrote a book called Achieving Prosperity Through Diversity. Then, he got into film working behind the scenes. Oh, and Gobinder had over 300 blog posts on his website. As you can imagine, his challege was focus. Where does he start? When I asked him why he hadn't started the podcast, Gobinder told me, "There is always tomorrow. There is always something else. When do I do it?" After working together, we got him focused on the step-by-step process and launched his podcast in 30 days. He is now well on his way to building his authority, getting speaking gigs and landing clients. It all started with taking action. WHERE DO YOU START? On the show today, we talk with Cindy Burns about starting. Cindy wants a podcast that will lead listeners into her membership. But, how can she convert those listeners into paying members? Where does she start? We talk about promoting in groups without getting kicked out for promoting. She is looking for great ideas to grow, like referrals and sharing. Most of all, she wants to know to get listeners and how to convert them to clients. We talk about the Podcast Fast Worksheet. You can dowload the worksheet and accompanying video at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/launch. When you are done with this episode, take action. Determine your next step and start. START TODAY What is your next big thing? Determine the first step and take action. Don't wait for perfect conditions. You'll be waiting forever. If you wait for all of the lights to turn green, you will never press the gas pedal. Perfect conditions rarely happen. You can always pivot down the road. Your first idea is never your best idea. But, you need to get through the first idea to get to the next and eventually get to the best idea. Take the first step and start your next big thing. Do you need help taking that first step? Let's talk. Go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply, click the button and apply to have a chat with me. It is my gift to you. No charge. We will determine your ideal outcome, develop your plan and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals. Most importantly, we determine your next step to get you to start. Go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply, click the button and apply. I can't wait to talk to you.
So many podcasters struggle to make money with their podcast. It is the primary challenge when coaches come to me for help. The thing they are missing is rapport. Building rapport is the biggest piece of the sales process. And most podcasters miss it with their podcast. On this episode, I want to help you refine your process, so you can make money with your podcast. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. STRATEGY You know how most podcasters don't make money with their show? They waste a lot of time on their podcast when it doesn't do anything to grow the business? I am a content coach. I help you build powerful, sales relationships with your podcast. If you ever want to try it, the process is really simple. First, we have a 30-minute conversation where we get clear on your podcast goals, what you hope to accomplish and how the podcast works into that plan. Next, we figure out where you are today, determine what you've tried in the past, and build the strategy to get you to your goals. And if you like what we've built, and you want some help implementing your strategy, I can show you what that would look like. You can only continue to dump so much time and effort into an ineffective podcast that isn't bringing you clients and growing your business. Doing what you're doing isn't getting you to your goals. My clients enjoy the freedom, success and financial gain by attracting clients through their podcast. They free up their time and relax with a real strategy to consistently and easily attract clients with their show. Implementation of the strategy we build helps them quickly and easily grow their revenue without the frustration, hard sales and guess work. I have a few slots on my calendar if you want to meet, find the holes in your strategy, and craft your strategy to make money with your podcast. Visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply and we'll talk. RAPPORT Jay Gendron has been listening to the podcast for quite some time. He wants to help women write their first draft of their book. Jay started his journey with me by listening to the podcast. He learned how I operate, what I believe and what I value. We built a relationship without even meeting. In December, Jay got on my email list when I offered my workshop. My emails continued to grow our relationship by helping Jay see what's possible. In January, Jay scheduled a call with me. He told me he pivoted his business months ago, because he wants to be a role model for his kids. Such a great purpose. On that call, Jay also told me he couldn't believe we were actually speaking in person. He had been listening to the podcast for so long, it was sureal that he was on a call with me. But one thing Jay said was most powerful. He said, "You're my podcast coach." This was the first time we were actually meeting, and we already had that powerful relationship in place. Jay has now enrolled in my Audience Explosion Blueprint coaching program. He also joined 48 Days with Dan Miller through my affiliate link when I promoted that opportunity. That is the power of your podcast. You can handle over half of the sales process before you even meet a potential client when you build your podcast properly. SALES PROCESS Rapport is the first of the 4 sales process steps. The four steps are... Build rapport Qualify your prospect Educate your prospect on your solution Overcome objections and close the sale However, each step is not equal. Many people rush to the educate step before they've spent enough time building rapport and qualifying their prospect. Let me take you through each of the four steps. BUILDING RAPPORT The first step is build rapport. This step should be 40% of your sales process. Many people believe your prospect needs to know, like and trust you. That is NOT exactly correct. Your prospect doesn't necessarily need to like you, especially if you are a consultant or coach. When selling services, your potentail client needs to respect you. She needs to know you have her best interest at heart, will tell her what she needs to hear, and help her get to her goals. The definition of rapport is "a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned understand each other's feelings or ideas and communicate well." That doesn't necessarily mean like. She needs to trust you. This is all about building rappport. Spend quality time building rapport. That is exactly what I did with Jay. Rapport is where your podcast should thrive QUALIFY Once you build rapport, you need to aualify your prospect. This is 30% of the sales process. In this step, you ensure you are right for your potential client and they are right for you. Your podcast handles much of this step as well. When you craft your content properly, your listener can see who you are, how you operate and what you believe. Most importantly, they can see how you get results for your clients. This is where they decide if you are right for them. For instance with my podcast, I show you how you can attract your clients with your podcast. You see how the implementation of your strategy helps you quickly and easily grow your revenue without the frustration, hard sales and guess work. If that is what you want and need, you know I am for you. Your podcast has now completed nearly 70% of your sales process. It is now a matter of determining which of your solutions makes most sense for your potential client. EDUCATE That leads us to step 3. You need to educate your prospect on your solution. If you have completed the first two steps, education should only be about 20% of your sales process. This step is about what you offer and how it solves the problem. However, you cannot start here before you have built rapport and qualified your listener. You can't expect your client to pay for premium products and services before they trust you. How can you offer a solution before you know the problem? Spend the right time in the first two steps before you get here. START Once you have educated your potential client on the solution that is best for her, it is time to overcome objections and get started. Sales people call this closing the sale. I prefer starting the journey. This is 10% of the sales process. STEPS TO RAPPORT Since most of your time in the sales process is spent building rapport, and your podcast can help you do that, let me show you how. There are 7 common steps to building rapport. Your podcast can complete six of these steps. AUTHENTICITY The first step is Be Yourself. Be authentic. Scott & Holly Stoner host the Wellness Compass Podcast. They provide insights on how to navigate our lives and our relationships with greater awareness and intention. On their podcast, Scott and Holly talk about their journey through life and their relationship. They share stories and connect with their listeners. The rapport is amazing. They got the same from my show before we began working together. Scott and Holly said, "We will be forever grateful for Erik's expertise and how accessible and actionable he makes his expertise. He's also just a really good guy and a lot of fun to work with." Being yourself builds rapport through your podcast. FIRST IMPRESSION The next step to building rapport is making a good first impression. Craft a solid introduction and remember names of your potential clients. Everybody loves the sound of their own name. Use those names on your show often. When Dave Jackson of the School of Podcasting is interviewed on another podcast, he always gives a shout out to the show and plays a clip on his podcast. Imagine how easy it is for Dave to land interviews. Podcasters know they will get that reciprical promotion for interviewing a great guest. Plus, they love hearing Dave mention their name on his show. LISTEN Step three is actively listen. When you listen to others, you show your potential client that you have their best interest at heart. You show that you are truly interested in what they have to say. You can demonstrate this on your show when you interview your clients and prospects. Be a good listener. ENGAGE Step four is asking engaging questions and showing interest. This is similar to step three. Asking engaging questions gets your prospects to think and helps you determine the exact solution they need. They help you build the solution. EMPATHY Step five is showing empathy. Relate to your potential client. TaVona Denise hosts Conversations With TaVona Denise. When TaVona transitioned out of nursing into entrepreneurship, she had many other nurses coming to her to learn how she did it. She could relate to each of them. This is when TaVona really found her niche. She now helps those businesswomen launch their next big thing. TaVona has been there and done that. She is able to show true empathy. TaVona used an episode to promote a summit she hosted. She told me the reason the summit was such a big success, was because she used the podcast to promote it. When we worked together, TaVona said what she loved most about working with me is how organized I am. More importantly, she loved that I also helped her when she had her freak out moments. I empathized. COMMONALITY Step six is common ground. TaVona did a great job here as well. It says I am just like you. She demonstrated that she had been there and done that. She and her tribe traveled common ground. Tell your story on your podcast, and show your potential clients that you are just like them. BODY LANGUAGE Step seven is a bit more difficult to accomplish on your podcast. This step to building rapport is body language. Paying attention to body language is critical in building rapport. However, you can't see it when you're listening to a podcast. Therefore, you need to be careful with your intonation, inflection and word selection. How you say it and who you are being when you say it is more important than what you say. WHAT'S NEXT There are the 7 steps to building rapport with your podcast. Now it is time to get started. You can only continue to dump so much time and effort into an ineffective podcast that isn't bringing you clients and growing your business. Doing what you're doing isn't getting you to your goals. My clients enjoy the freedom, success and financial gain by attracting clients with their podcast. They free up their time and relax with a real strategy to consistently and easily attract clients with their show. Implementation of the strategy we buld helps them quickly and easily grow their revenue without the frustration, hard sales and guess work. I have a few slots on my calendar if you want to meet, find the holes in your strategy, and craft your strategy to make money with your podcast. Visit www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply and we'll talk.
If you've been listening to the show for some time, you probably already know my stance on live launches. I am not generally a fan of only live launching your offer. As I teach my Accelerator members, you can do live launches, but you should also be offering your program on an evergreen basis. Offering only live launches is stressful. There are so many moving parts and it can easily get overwhelming. If you're tired of being on this live launch roller coaster, you're in the right place. In this episode of Art of Online Business, I sat down with TaVona Denise to talk about how you can go from having stressful, unfocussed launches to having fun and profitable launches. TaVona Denise helps coaches and online service providers redesign their businesses so they can have the lifestyle and impact they started the business for. A former physical therapist, master-certified life coach, and trauma-informed business consultant, TaVona uses her diverse background to help entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses with integrity and ease so they can bring in their favorite clients without suffering from burnout or hating the process. TaVona is the author of Unstoppable Success: How to Finally Create the Body, Business and Lifestyle You Want and the voice behind the podcasts, Breaking Protocol, and Coaching & Conversations. When she is not handling business, you can find her singing karaoke or enjoying the white sands and beautiful blue waters of Mexico which she currently calls home.In this episode, you'll learn:Why you should look at launches like a partyCreating a launch that matches your energyWhy there's more than one way to launchThe importance of experimenting and evaluating The internal work you need to do with a launchWhy we subconsciously sabotage ourselvesWhat's working right now in terms of launchingLinks & Resources:The Art of Online Business websiteDM me on InstagramVisit my YouTube channelThe Art of Online Business clips on YouTubeFull episodes of The Art of Online Business Podcast on YouTubeThe Art of Online Business Podcast websiteCheck out my Accelerator coaching program*Disclosure: I only recommend products I use and love and all opinions expressed here are my own. One of my clients told me, "If we are able to generate leads, that is awesome. If we are helping change people's lives, and they are reaching out to us, that would be a success. Becoming a resource is the goal." Money makes the mission possible. What would that feel like if that transformation came to life 5 years from now? YOUR MARKET There are a few things you need to remember when you are working to make money with your podcast. First, you make money WITH your podcast and not FROM your podcast. Your podcast isn't a revenue generator. Instead of ads and sponsorships, make money with your podcast by promoting your products, your services, or affiliate products and services. Next, don't only sell. If you are only selling on your podcast and not building rapport and relationships, or worse yet you have no client strategy at all, you're are wasting your time. Only 3% of your market is buying today. A fraction of your target market is actively looking to make a purchase right now. Another 7% could possibly be convinced they need it now. For 10% of your audience, the time isn't right. The next 10% don't believe they need it based on the info the currently have. They need more education. Your final 10% may never buy. They may be a user of different brand or have different needs. If you are spending all of your time closing, you are missing 97% of your target market. Even you convince that 7% that could be sold, 90% of your audience isn't looking to buy right now. You are missing a huge opportunity. SELLING TO MAKE MONEY There are four steps to make money your podcast. If you are not monetizing your show, you probably have a hole in one of these four areas. First, what are you selling? To make money with your podcast, you need to have something to sell. Mary Elaine is host of Caregiver Cast. She helps women who are trying to care for their family and their aging parent at the same time. When Mary Elaine came to me for coaching, she had a conference. However, she had no offer coming from it. She was getting her audience to an amazing conference, but it ended there. To help her make money with her podcast, we built a membership and coaching program. Mary Elaine now leads people from her podcast to the conference and into the membership. Have something to sell. CONVERSATIONS Once you have something to sell, the next step getting people to buy. Where do your sales conversations happen? Where do you make your offer? TaVona Denise is the host of Conversations With TaVona Denise. She helps women entrepreneurs launch their next big thing. After we launched her podcast, she began using it to invite women to her events. TaVona recently used an episode to promote a summit she was hosting. She told me she believes the reason the summit was such a big success, was because she used the podcast to promote it. Where Mary Elaine is having sales conversations at her conference, TaVona is having sales conversations at her summit. Conversations can happen anywhere. You just need a strategy. TaVona told me that the one thing she loved most about working with me is how organized the program is. It isn't a haphazard, thrown-together coaching program. You learn things in a step-by-step format. GET THEM THERE If you have something to sell and you know where your sales conversations happen, your hole may be getting people to show up. That is step three. How are you getting people to your sales conversation? Rocky Lalvani is the host of Profit Answer Man. He is an amazing business coach trained in Mike Michalowicz's Profit First system. To get people to his sales conversation, Rocky has a great website at ProfitComesFirst.com. He offers two free chapters of Mike's book and a free, 15 minute phone call to learn about how putting profit first can make a difference in your business. The free chapters of the book lead people to the website where he registers entrepreneurs for the free call. Rocky says, "While most people focus on equipment Erik focuses on the listener and how you can serve them. Most podcasters miss this essential part of the process." That's the key. Serve people. Help them solve a problem. Get them to your sales conversation. YOUR CONTENT Once you've shored up the first three holes, what content are you creating to build relationships and create demand for that conversation? Scott & Holly Stoner host the Wellness Compass Podcast. They have an amazing foundation. Their goal is to provide insights on how to navigate our lives and our relationships with greater awareness and intention. The two came to me to help connect the podcast to the Wellness Compass Initiative. They hired me before they launched their podcast, because they knew I could steer them toward success from the first episode, which is exactly what we did. We worked to build the podcast on a solid foundation that created content leading their listener to their resources. The show is built on content that creates a desire for their free resources. Those resources lead to their programs. You need a process. YOUR HOLES If you are struggling to make money with your podcast, your strategy probably has a hole in one of these areas. Tighten up your strategy. Money makes the mission possible. You know you have the expertise to change lives. Adding money to your plan is like pouring gas on the fire. Your success is just a matter of getting in front of more of your ideal clients. When you build an effective podcast strategy, you attract the right people who want your help to transform their lives. This week on The Profit Producer Podcast, we welcome special guest Tavona Bogg. She's helped coaches and online service providers redesign their businesses so that they can have the lifestyle and impact they started the business for, as a formal physical therapist, master certified life coach, and trauma-informed business consultant. Tavona uses her diverse background to help entrepreneurs create and scale group programs with integrity and ease so that they can bring in their favorite without suffering from burnout or hating the process. In this episode, we speak about how fear of success can be a major setback when trying to take your business to the next level—particularly when you have achieved something as monumental as a six-figure launch. Even after such an achievement, there can still be other fears that creep up which we have to be conscious of going forward in order to prevent burnout and overwhelm. For those who are feeling overwhelmed and burned out, Tavona recommends looking at what they're doing and coming up with a clear outcome they want to create. She suggests taking time to step back and look at what is most important for reaching those goals, instead of just pushing through all the tasks without any guidance or structure. Tavona also mentions how important it is to take breaks when needed, in order to reset and refocus our energy back into our work. Taking regular breaks helps us become more productive over time - it allows us to stay focused during work hours and make sure we don't run out of steam later on. Additionally, Tavona points out that it is essential to have a strong support system - whether this consists of friends or family or even co-workers can be incredibly helpful when things get tough. Having people who are there for you when you need them can help you power through challenging times and keep going toward achieving your goals! To join our Facebook page and learn more about monetizing your webinar click this link >>https://www.facebook.com/groups/ProfitProducers
The fear of leaving the security of what you currently know is very real. And it may not even matter how well your side-business of coaching is doing. But it's a decision. Sometimes you have to cut off all other options and just force yourself to make it happen full time. (If it's right for you and the right timing.) But launching a business is scary. It really needs its own type of therapy. To talk about all this… the truths and fears, the strategies and the difficulties… I have with me TaVona Boggs. TaVona is an author, a physical therapist, and a Master Certified Coach who specializes in helping coaches and consultants launch successful businesses. She shares about how it's not sudden success but rather a process; one that involves delivering on your promises, scaling properly, and growing with your business. “This is my belief down to my core… It's a decision… When I decided I was going to be a full time coach… It took me five years… I had to keep getting knocked down and getting back up… I had to keep going after it.” – TaVona Boggs What You'll Learn Cut off all options Vision comes with source Delivery often is the problem Success you're ready for Not missing the point What actually matters Connect with TaVona Boggs TaVona is the author of Unstoppable Success: How to Finally Create the Body, Business and Lifestyle You Want and the voice behind the podcasts, Breaking Protocol and Coaching & Conversations. For some reason, we have been conditioned to believe that we have to “hustle hard” to be successful and some pretty outdated ways of thinking when it comes to women, raising children and business. In this episode, Kristina sets the record straight. Experiencing burnout as an entrepreneur is far more prevalent than we would think. Even if you are really passionate about your business, burnout can happen. Burnout is sometimes caused by the ‘hustle hard' mentality – wherein you're putting more effort into your work than you are receiving in return. Consequently, it affects your creativity, productivity, and team which impacts the growth of your business. In order to prevent burnout you need to identify its early signs and know when it's time to act. Do you ever wonder what your clients, colleagues, friends, or family think about you? If yes, then it's normal. It's natural for us human beings to care what other people think about us. As we grow up, we develop beliefs about ourselves based on what others tell us. The problem is when we care so much about what they think that we abandon our authentic way of being and our desires based on what we believe others might think of us. Once you start sacrificing your own happiness and goals in order to make others happy, that's the moment you need to untangle yourself from codependent thinking. In this episode, Victoria delves into codependent thinking and how to remove codependency from your business. Shownotes 02:02 - What is codependent thinking? 04:55 - Why do women fall into codependency? 09:03 - How to unravel from codependent thinking 15:53 - Overcoming the fear of doing the emotional work 17:30 - Codependence within a launch 22:59 - Interdependence vs. Codependence Like what you hear? Clients tell me they struggle creating a strong call-to-action and getting listeners to sign up for a call. Connecting your content to becoming a client can be a challenge. Then, if we like each other, I can show you some options to help you accelerate your success if you'd like. Let's get something scheduled. Apply today at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/apply. HOW I LEARNED THIS You see, many clients tell me they struggle to figure out how to market the show to the right audience to attract more of the right listeners. This is what I've been doing for 3 decades. I got into radio in 1988 while I was earning my bachelors degree in architecture. Being an introvert, impostor syndrome was always a challenge. Over time, I learned how to attract and entertain an audience. Over the next 30 years, I created marketing campaigns and events to build a buying audience. I also spent decades coaching and training on-air talent to do the same. Now I do that for podcasters. Through my years in radio, I was lucky enough to interview greats like George Strait, Ice-T, Zac Brown, Lady Gaga and more. These interviews gave me status by association. In 2009, I fell in love with podcasting and the creative, entrepreneurial spirit of it. What radio was lacking by becoming big business, podcasts were capitalizing on with adventure and powerful niches. Unfortuately, I heard so many podcasts with no strategy. I figured if they could learn just a few of the things we used in radio to attract an audience and convert them to customers, their podcasts could be so much stronger and more effective. But in 2012, I didn't have a platform of my own. I saw all these other experts growing and having an impact. How could they do it and I'm not? I had all this radio experience. STEP UP Then I realized I just needed to step up. Owning a radio station was no longer possible due to big business. But, now there was an option with my own podcast. That's when I got started coaching podcasters. The more conversations I had, the more podcasters would tell me they just needed a solid plan and foundation for growth. How do we get more listeners? Now, you now have the opportunity to use podcasting to attract your ideal coaching clients. I got lucky to get it and figure it out by getting knocked around. Now you can easily get it without all the pain I experienced. Imagine being able to have a conversation with your ideal customer every week. That's what podcasting can do for you if you structure it right. It's the perfect way to reach your target audience and demonstrate your authority in your niche. You simply need a strategy to connect your content to your ideal client. 3 SECRETS Are you leveraging podcasting to its full potential to grow your business? Now is the time. Podcasting is growing. It is wide open compared to blogging and YouTube. And, it is growing incredibly fast. The future is bright. When I teach podcasters how to do this, there are three common challenges. They make it too complicated. They have a poor stragegy. And, they don't know where to start. You can overcome each of these easily. But before I share the solutions to those challenges, let me give you three secrets the podcast gurus don't tell you. First, you podcast allows you to build know, like and trust. The gurus want you to get a sponsor or sell ads. That's the worst thing you can do. It takes too much time and effort to sell ads. You have limited inventory. And, there is a revenue ceiliing. Instead, build relationships with the stories you tell and examples you share on your podcast. Allow your listener to get to know you. Build rapport with your potential clients. Next, use your content to create excitement for what you have to offer. The best interview to launch a product or service features someone who has been helped by using the product or service. Get that person to tell their story of transformation. Finally, remember that different people consume content in different ways. One size does not fit all. Therefore, give them options. For instance, record a video and use the audio for your podcast. Two formats, but you've only done the work once. Repurpose your content. 3 CHALLENGES Let's solve the three challenges for you. First, coaches make podcasting too complicated. You simply need to connect your content to your client. Clients tell me they struggle creating a strong call-to-action and getting listeners to sign up for a call. Develop a strategy to attract an audience of potential clients. Then, create great content that will build trust. Let your content lead to your offer vehicle, such as webinar or discovery call. My radio coach taught me the importance of building relationships. He would tell me that friendships come from self revelation. When you reveal things about yourself, you build that friendship. On your podcast, build relationships with your amazing content. This is the power of podcasting. STRATEGY The next challenge podcasters encounter is a poor strategy. Clients tell me they struggle to connect the podcast to the business and figure out how it fits into the overall marketing plan. My podcast profits framework involves six steps. It doesn't need to be any harder than this. STEP 1 Step 1 is your podcast platform. This is defining your ideal listeners and your why. TaVona came to me to launch her podcast. We built a show to help you attract nurses who she could help transition from nursing to entrepreneurial endeavors. Over time, she realized her clients needed her help launching their next product or service instead of a business. So, she pivoted. This pivot wouldn't have been possible without understanding her ideal client and knowing her true why. STEP 2 Step 2 is your popularity factor. This is how you attract your ideal clients. Greg runs the Cool Grandpa podcast. When he came to me for help, he had about 400 downloads a month. After we created his strategy, his downloads increased from 400 to 850. That's what is possible with a strategy. STEP 3 Step 3 is your content creation. This is where we create magnetic content. Sadie and Sausha came to me to launch their podcast called Meathead Test Kitchen. These two are amazing. They talk about health and fitness in their very own unique way. You know exactly what you get on this show within the first two minutes. Their content makes them unique and magnetic. STEP 4 Step 4 is your Relationship Roadmap. This is where you build relationships. Zoe uses her podcast to build relationships with decision makers at potential client companies. Over time, she is able to reach a point where these CEOs are willing to discuss a working relationship all because of her podcast. This is just one of the many ways to build relationships with your show. STEP 5 Step 5 is your Starting Strategy. This is all about offering lead magnets and webinar invitations. It could also be a discovery call with your potential client. This is what I do with Podcast Talent Coach. I give you plenty of information you can use. I then give you amazing opportunities to get more through my webinars and other trainings. STEP 6 Finally, step 6 is Converting Clients. This is where you present your offer. When Oscar and I worked together, he was conducting great interviews on his podcast. Unfortunately, the show wasn't leading to clients. When I listened to his show, he did very little to invite potential clients to work with him. We revamped the structure of the show a bit. Now, Oscar is a bigger part of the show. He invites his listeners to get more information about working with him. Those interactions now turn into client relationships. START The third challenge coaches face is they don't know where to start. Clients tell me they struggle with how to offer things without making it sound like an ad. They tell me it is hard to make yourself likable while selling something. What would it mean if you had an easy way to grow your audience? A step-by-step process to turn your listeners into coaching clients? There is a secret to growing an audience. You need to work on 2 sides of the equation. You need to attract new listeners. Then, you need to keep your current listeners coming back for more. Talk to your idea clients each and every week on your podcast to build those powerful, profitable relationships. Follow those 6 steps I've given you to land your clients. MY HELP Let me help you get started. We can figure out where your strategy isn't converting in the 6 steps.
