Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout. No matter which of the 16 personality types there are (The Healer, The Architect, The Teacher, The Protector, to name a few), this wisdom is applicable to you. Because when you understand your preferences that dictate your conscious actions and unconscious behaviors, you can create better boundaries in your work and life that help you avoid burnout. Now, if you haven't heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you're ready to continue on, let's pick back up here with my conversation with psychotherapist and author Jessica Butts as she simplifies how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout. It's time to simplify… Here's how. My all-star special guest today is Jessica Butts and she is simplifying how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: Why we hear about burnout being such a prevalent thing these days and her theory on the root cause We talked about the 16 Myers-Briggs personality types and why this tool has helped her and her clients to avoid burnout When we suppress our Intuition and look outside of ourselves to social media influencers, what actually is happening here… she teaches us how to look within How to tune out the external noise and distractions, so that you can create your own unique path with your career …and ultimately, we talked about “healing the hustle,” what that means, and how to redefine success on your terms, based on your personality type. You can do it, I believe in you… it's time to simplify! Q: Are you ready to learn how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout? If yes, this one is for you. My all-star special guest today is author and psychotherapist Jessica Butts and she's simplifying how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout. She's helped clients around the world to create a brand new definition of success, utilizing a tool kit built for your personality type. Hello...thanks for listening! This will be the 'Summer of Self-Awareness' / SoSA for my podcast listeners (those who are interested in this that is!), and I'll be ending the Summer with a series of interviews and an Audio (Podcast) Summit in the Fall (with several speakers and experts) titled "Work How YOU Are". Because we're all individuals and what works best for one of us doesn't mean that it will work best for all of us. Can I get an Amen? I got the idea for this Audio (Podcast) Summit after purchasing many, many courses and digital products just to find out in the end and many several dollars later that the most of these programs did *not work for me. ....Because I am an introvert, and a highly sensitive person and an empath, a Manifesting-Generator in Human Design and most recently, that I have an ADHD brain (!) One speaker will talk about 'Shiny Object' and why it's not a "bad" thing, One speaker will talk about Human Design, And another on Myers-Briggs, and many more! Hello...thanks for listening! Join my newsletter... https://www.westelizabeth.com/vip-list-signup From as young as I can remember I've always 'marched to the beat of my own drum'.... Come to find out (as I've gotten older) that my ancestors from the both sides of my family have and are entrepreneurs, business owners and leaders. I remember when I was doing my 'self-discovery' back in 2020 (yes, during the pandemic)...and I was having a meltdown/breakdown. I was being a martyr to myself again, and something said to look for a podcast on either being an introvert or an hsp (highly sensitive person). I had never listened to podcasts before this day funny enough - it was in August of 2020. And so I listened to my instincts and I stumbled upon Julie Bjelland's podcast titled 'The HSP Podcast' and this particular episode spoke of the absolute worst thing an HSP can do is to be hard on ourselves. From that day on, I knew I had to learn more about myself to, as my fave Maya Angelou quote says..."when you know better, you do better". I knew that I had to 'do better' and that my well-being, happiness and overall mental health depended on this. I ended up taking a Myers-Briggs test shortly thereafter and I found out that I was an INFP.... Back to listening to podcasts...I ended up finding a lot of podcasts and I heard Jessica Butts speak about INFP's on a couple of my favorite podcasts. When she got to the four letters of I-N-F-P she mentioned that this personality type is 'unemployable' because we're so "free" which is why. At first I took offense to it then I realized, she's right! I was learning more about myself and everything was making more sense. My special guest today is Jessica Butts and she is simplifying how to use the Myers-Briggs to avoid burnout. What if the hustle and grind you've been in to grow your business is actually doing more harm than good? As entrepreneurs, we always have a long list of to-do's that never ends so it can be very tempting to work long hours trying to get everything done. Not to mention the internal conflict and “mean inner message” that continually drives us to be and do more to keep up with your competition. On Amplify Your Success Podcast episode 302, Jessica Butts joins me to flip the script on hustle culture to create a more peaceful (and sustainable) way to grow. Key Takeaways [4:40] Jessica shares how island life has helped her learn the value of slowing down. [6:15] How trauma becomes fuel for “hustle harder” (and the huge cost that comes with that approach.) [13:27] The all too common “shoulding” that plays into decision making and our ambition. [17:14] Why it's important to check in our definition of success, not just once, but over and over again. [21:55] Jessica talks about the runaway train effect of running a business with multiple offerings. [25:35] What's your #1 priority? Why it's important to decide what's really important. [34:49] Jessica talks about why she doesn't look at the past with regrets. About the Guest Jessica is a psychotherapist, 3x author, Myers Briggs Expert, corporate trainer, and keynote speaker. In Jessica's work over the past 20 years with personality type and human behavior she has found a way for women to balance their ambitious ways that keep them constantly "doing" with new ways to help them also "be". She is practicing what she preaches and recently sold everything she owns and fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Maui to Heal her Hustle while also running her successful business. She is now on a mission to help other women learn how to Heal their Hustle.
Welcome back to the Front Seat Life podcast, I am Jessica Butts your host. We are diving into Part Two of my Healing the Hustle framework and my upcoming book. I've written about 70% of the book and today we are moving into “Understanding Your Hustle.” And today I'm going to read to you from the book and add in a few explanations and stories too. Including the one about how I got my tattoo! It's funny, when I was a therapist and now I am again, but when I was a therapist, I complained there were too many rules keeping me from being able to do the work I wanted to do. However, there was this ethical and legal boundary that kept my work at work and made boundaries easier. When I became a coach that boundary disappeared, and it was a problem I created. And it was all based on my worth, or lack thereof. See, part of my hustle was people pleasing. And I'm guessing yours is as well. Women are natural caretakers due to both nature and nurture. It runs in our DNA. We over-give because we feel bad or that we aren't doing enough, especially if they are giving us money to be their coach. When I was on a vacation, like the one I took to Maui a few years ago, I was still answering Facebook or Instagram DMs, checking my email, even though I had put my ‘out of office' on and even had a wonderful assistant covering me. I was constantly thinking about my clients, my team, my work. There's also another big reason why I, and our type do this…We get validation from being busy and feeling needed. And I have done so much more work on this since I've written this section in my book and with this episode I share some insights that might also resonate with you!Enjoy this first installment of the new mini-series about Part 2 of Healing the Hustle! Welcome back to the Front Seat Life podcast, I am Jessica Butts your host. I'm back on Maui and I could not be happier. We're back for the third episode of a mini-series I've renamed How We Got Here and this is the Our Need to “Do” is a Trauma Response episode. We have been talking about how we all got here, how we got to this place of hustling, your journey, my journey, sharing that, and giving you some tools. Our New World, which hit home with a lot of people. I heard from a lot of people about my saying, connection before capitalism, that seemed to really hit home with people. And today is this Our Need to Do. Our need, specifically as women, and that this is our identity. This is a badge of honor. This somehow makes us better. And I'm here to tell you that I'm going through this as well. So, I've been talking about nature and nurture and how our personality type absolutely plays a part in this. The nurture piece is so big, and this is absolutely 1000000% our family of origin. And there's so many of us that are acting out. We are trying to prove ourselves to people, the world, and society. And then there's often a trauma response to our family of origin. And societal norms. These are two very powerful forces.Enjoy this third installment of the new mini-series within the Healing the Hustle Series! And remember, I always love hearing from my listeners. Feel free to reach out to me and of course I would love, love, love a review on iTunes, it helps others find us. Welcome back everybody to the Front Seat Life podcast, I am Jessica Butts your host. We're back for the second episode of a mini-series I've renamed How We Got Here and this is the Our New World episode. And this is all within the Healing Our Hustle focus for the podcast. This is all about how we got to this crazy hustle, hustle world and today we're going to talk about that new world we find ourselves in.The last 30 years have completely changed our existence. I mean, I remember like in high school, college even, and when I started my first job out of college, all we did was work. We didn't have computers. There was no internet. We didn't do any of this stuff. And so, within 30 years, our lives have completely changed, completely changed. With technology and phones, and obviously social media, all of it, the “how we got here” is just massive. This must be addressed. We've got to acknowledge the fact that we are now in hustle culture.Absolutely because of this new world we live in. I was looking at my book earlier and all the things I had written down about how people can contact us. Back in the day, people called us on the telephone connected to our houses. We had the cool phones with the super, super, super long cord so that we could go into the bathroom and have a private conversation and have our parents not hear us. We used to do everything I R L, in real life. We had to actually see people. So anyway, you need to listen to this episode. I just find this fascinating and creates a great sense of awareness. Please, enjoy this second installment of the new mini-series within the Healing the Hustle Series! And remember, I always love hearing from my listeners. Feel free to reach out to me and of course I would love, love, love a review on iTunes, it helps others find us. We're getting raw and honest about what's happening at large for women. Jessica Butts is a psychotherapist and Myers‒Briggs expert, a three-time author, and a corporate trainer. Her mission is to help us all “heal the hustle.” You know I talk all the time about the idea of how women “aren't really supposed to handle money” and that undercurrent in our society. The idea that we women can make our “cute little money” with our “cute little businesses,” but when it comes to the “real money,” that's for the men. Well, we unpack all that energy and the business trauma women face in today's episode. I know. Get ready, we're going deep. Jessica shares her story of transformation after years of suppressing who she was and running headlong into the hustle. She remembers it like an addiction. Then COVID hit. Her next move? Selling everything she owned to do the work of figuring out what was important. Jessica talks about how the hustle hooks into women viciously because we are taught to feel good about ourselves based on how much we produce—and we don't even get paid properly for it. She says her work isn't about ambition but about balancing the being and the doing. It's about doing the internal work to maintain who we naturally are amid the chaos thrown at us. Stop trying to change your environment or the people around you. You can only change yourself. We get candid (we swear a bit) about the toxicity of comparison and the trap of pretending you're perfect. Beautiful people, you hear me say all the time that no matter what work you choose, you do not get to lift yourself up out of your humanity—and if you want a better understanding of what that means, pop in those headphones. Welcome back everybody to the Front Seat Life podcast. I am Jessica Butts and thank you for all the love about the hundredth episode. It's pretty amazing to have a hundred episodes. I mean, do I have that much to say? I guess I do! I really appreciate the comments and the reviews, and the love and we are just going to keep this party going. And we're going to get back on track today Healing the Hustle. So, today we are going to start with the first section of my new book which is answering the questions, “How did we get here? And why can't I just be happy?” And this is broken into basically three main things. The first is looking at your journey, how you got to where you are now. Like me sharing my journey of getting to where I am, both personally and physically here on Maui. Then we look at our new world, this crazy unbelievable new world we live in. And finally, it's good to reflect on our obsessive need to "do." We live in a capitalist society and a culture that puts a lot of value on “the more you do the better.”How can we not always be going, going, going? This need to “do” is some sort of badge of honor. It's a bunch of BS, quite honestly, but we've all bought into it, that we need more, we need to buy more. We're just spending our money like crazy people and we're not saving. And so, we always need a better job and to be making more money. We've always got to be hustling to do the next thing, because we've literally created this life, but it's also innate in us.Okay, enjoy this first installment of the new mini-series within the Healing the Hustle Series! And remember, I always love hearing from my listeners. Feel free to reach out to me and of course I would love, love, love a review on iTunes, it helps others find us. Welcome back everybody. This is the Front Seat Life podcast, and I am Jessica Butts bringing you my 100th episode! It's kind of amazing. I've paused, taken some time off, come back with Healing the Hustle, but today we get to celebrate! I believe in celebrations and that we should celebrate our life and business wins. And I'm celebrating two major wins this week, my 100th episode and I got approved trademark for Front Seat Life! So, of course my 100th episode is going to be about personality type. And dialing it up, not dialing it down. Be more of who we are, not suppressing it or oppressing it. Not being vanilla in any way, shape, or form. It's hard for us to do, because we naturally focus on the stuff we suck at and think we need to get better at that, to try to please everyone. I explain some of the traps we can fall into and the mistakes we make. But our greatest gift or path in life is to become more of who we are. We are not meant to be in a zone of competence, but a zone of genius. So, dial it up!And remember, I always love hearing from my listeners. Feel free to reach out to me via email and of course I would love, love, love a review on iTunes, it helps others find us. Welcome back everybody. This is the Front Seat Life podcast, and I am Jessica Butts bringing you another episode in the Healing the Hustle series. I know it's confusing, but it's what I'm doing at the moment. Today's episode is a bit of a mess.I'm talking about how to show up when you are not okay. Because part of our hustle is absolutely people pleasing. Absolutely pretending, like everything's fine. And I'm not okay today. The cons of doing this in real time, in real life, as I've promised to be doing, is that sh*t happens, but the show must go on. I got kicked in the gut and I do believe that I really, really struggled with whether I do the podcast, or I just not do it?That was option A, just skip a week. Option B, which is not really an option for me was to show up and be fake. To show up and pretend like I don't have super wonky energy. And that is part of, again, the hustling that we do. This is part of the everything's fine culture. It's part of the culture that I've calling BS on for 11 years probably. This is just not healthy. It's not healthy to pretend like everything's fine. It's not healthy for us or for our relationships to show up in an inauthentic way and from our backseats. The backseat is when we're doing too many things that we suck at, or someone breaks our heart… So, option C was to show up, record the podcast, be true to my commitment, and be authentic. Please listen and I'll explain what is going on and hopefully what I share will help you if you find yourself in a similar situation, which does seem to happen to us all from time to time. And remember, I always love hearing from my listeners. Feel free to reach out to me via email and of course I would love, love, love a review on iTunes, it helps others find us. Hello...thanks for listening! The interview starts at 4:24. ;-) Jessica was my first podcast interview back in October 2021! Thanks, Jessica!!! I edit my own podcast episodes right now and due to this and "life" it took me this long to convert our Zoom interview into Audacity (how I edit my podcast episodes) and then onto MP3 so they can be listened to as a podcast, after the edits! Being "techie" isn't my strong suit and it's funny because we talk about this on the episode! haha! Jessia Butts is a Myers-Briggs expert (although she discusses many other personality traits and characteristics!). I found out about Jessica Butts from Kate Kordsmeier's podcast called 'Success with Soul' and from Laura Sprinkle's podcast called 'The Laura Sprinkle Show'. I love how Jessica breaks down personality types and makes it easy to understand! I'm an INFP and Jessica talks about how my personality type is according to these four letters: I = Introvert N = Intuitive F = Feeling P = Perceiving Free Personality Test (similar to the Myers-Briggs test and also where I've taken my personality test from) *It only takes 10 minutes* www.16personalities.com After you get your four letters, below is a Free mini-report per Marketing Personalities by Brit Kolo. Her tag lines are "Marketing That Feels Good" and "YOU are More Important than Your Ideal Client Avatar". It's based on the four letters of your personality type. https://www.marketingpersonalities.com/?affiliate=westelizabeth If you enjoy the Free mini-report and you'd like to purchase the Full Report ($39.00) - that is my affiliate link above and I'll receive a a small commission at no cost to you. I purchased the Full Report back in 2020 and it's very helpful! It's great because I refer back to it when I need to which reminds me...I'll need to refer to it again soon! :) It's a Workbook that you can type in and it helps with everything marketing (from social media to books to your work style, all according to your personality type!). I'm an INFP and Jessica talks about how my personality type is according to these four letters: I = Introvert N = Intuitive F = Feeling P = Perceiving An article where they break down what any of the four letters mean: www.truity.com/myers-briggs/4-letters-myers-briggs-personality-types Free Personality Test (similar to the Myers-Briggs test and also where I've taken my personality test from) *It only takes 10 minutes* www.16personalities.com After you get your four letters, below is a Free mini-report per Marketing Personalities by Brit Kolo. Welcome back to the Front Seat Life podcast, and our new series the Front Seat 16! I am your host Jessica Butts, and today's episode is all about the ESFJ. I just got done recording the episode with Katie Christiansen and we are doing this episode right after the Sarah Dean episode, which is perfect because Katie is actually a Sara's assistant and we talk so much about how she is the ideal integrator to the ENFJ visionary. And the episode is so packed, full of absolutely amazing information. We did her family type. We talked about the integrator and the visionary, and expectations and how they become a martyr. It is an incredible, incredible episode. It might be my favorite of the series so far.Overall ESFJ's are the Caregiver. They are generous and giving and organized and detailed, their archetype is the Police. They are the support staff, if you will. They have no desire to be the upfront person. Their Drunk Uncle is actually the Intuitive. So that kind of big picture and entrepreneurial and starting their own business is absolutely their backseat. Katie, and most ESFJ's absolutely love being the Caretaker. They love that role in their family and their life. And they are absolutely the perfect, perfect assistant and integrator for the visionary. I really hope you enjoy this episode. And I loved it and I think you will too!Much love, JessicaFor more about Jessica, additional episodes, and to schedule a call, visit https://jessicabutts.com/Follow Jessica on Instagram: @frontseatlifeFollow Katie on Instagram: @katiecougarFront Seat Life Podcasthttps://businessinnovatorsradio.com/front-seat-life-podcast/Source: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/92-fs16-esfj-with-katie-christiansen

Welcome back to the Front Seat 16, our new series from the Front Seat Life podcast! I am your host Jessica Butts, and today Sara Dean joins me for probably my favorite episode of the series to talk about ENFJ! Why's it my favorite? Because it's my type too, haha! Sara is a dear friend, a podcasting genius, and the creator and host of The Shameless Mom Podcast.Overall ENFJs are extroverted, intuitive, feeling and judging which means they give their best selves to other people. They are big picture thinkers. They think outside the box, they're always thinking about what's next. It makes them great entrepreneurs. They are feelers, meaning they make decisions with their hearts and they are Js, which means they're normally pretty obsessive, highly organized, like to be on time, they are planners, and futuristic. And they pretty much have the horse blinders on, like, “Get out of my way, don't distract me, this is where I'm going.” The ENFJs and the ENFPs are interesting because they're very similar, but their front seats are different. An ENFJ is out in the world, giving, sharing, connecting in life and in business, right? We normally have a lot of friends. We have a lot of activities going on. People might think we're very social and, and extroverted and outgoing, which is true. But not the other half of us, the other 50% of us is inside in our hearts. In our mind, being intuitive, walking in silence, thinking in silence, journaling, having a morning practice, getting away by ourselves, taking solo trips, a weekend retreats by ourself, all a whole bunch of alone. And that my friends is where ENFJs get their ideas.Listen in to this episode to learn all about ENFJs, I'm sure you know some! Sara and I share some great stories and examples of life interactions where our type resonate, and where it clashes. I hope you enjoy today's episode. Welcome back to the Front Seat 16, our new series from the Front Seat Life podcast! I am your host Jessica Butts, and today Gina and Rae join me as our ENFPs! Gina and I went to graduate school together and we both decided to transition from therapy to coaching because of the constrictions placed upon us, they just didn't jive with our types. These two have learned that living and being in a relationship with someone who is the same type can have some amazing benefits. There are still a few challenges, but Gina and Rae seem to have figured out how to love and thrive with each other.ENFP is probably my favorite type, and for years I wanted to be an ENFP and I would take the assessment over and over again. And I would come out in ENFP, which is gotta be hilarious to everybody who knows me, because I'm a super “J”, I'm very controlling, very organized, very long-term vision. But I love ENFPs and so I would skew it to be what I thought I wanted to be because they are very raw, very loving, and open, and compassionate. They're kind of named the “cheerleader.” They are enthusiastic. They have a lot of charisma. People love them. They are very fly by the seat of their pants, and go with the flow.I feel like they've just got life figured out, but they just are so just spontaneous and enjoyable to be around. You want to be around them. They're those kinds of people because they have this really beautiful energy. They are giving their best selves to other people. They are great visionaries of the business. Absolutely horrible integrators. It is probably the worst part of them is getting shit done. They are absolutely not good integrators. They are the visionaries, the Walt Disney's of the world. They are the people who are thinking outside the box and then they must, must, must have somebody, a right-hand person to help them get all of those ideas done. Otherwise I'm very, honestly, they will never get them. They will never get them done if they do not have somebody to help them implement all of their ideas.I hope you enjoy today's episode. Gina and Rae are just a gift to the universe as individuals, but especially as a couple. They are really open about their life and how wonderful it is and the things that as a couple, they struggle with, like not getting things done. Welcome back to the Front Seat 16, our new series from the Front Seat Life podcast! I am your host Jessica Butts, and today Karen Rosenzweig joins me as my official ESTJ. Karen is one of my favorite people ever. She is a total go-getter, and an incredibly awesome human being. But before we get started in all of these episodes of all of the 16 types, I want to go over five main things, which is more the Front Seat Life methodology before we jump into our guests. So those five things are who an ESTJ is overall, their Front Seat, their backseat, their archetype (my made up intellectual property), and then a really great career for each type.Meyers-Briggs calls an ESTJ “The Guardian.” I would lovingly possibly call them “The Controllers” because ESTJs are extroverted, sensing, thinking and judging, which means they're extroverted out in the world and they are very logical detail oriented. They make decisions with their head and they're very organized, structured on time. They like things a certain way. They don't have a lot of emotional regulation, they're not super into emotions.I break all of this down before we hop into my conversation with Karen who has been an entrepreneur for 15 years and runs One Smart Cookie Marketing. Her type is my Mom's type, so I know her type extremely well! Karen is kind enough to open up about her challenges and how she also excels because her type. And we also dive into how she and her wife, who is the exact opposite type, connect and manage to accept each other for who they are. It's another wonderful and beautiful conversation where we get to unpack a lot and I'm sure many of you will be able to relate on many levels. I hope this is helpful and interesting to you. Please listen to this fantastic episode with Karen Rosensweig. And stay tuned for more powerful episodes in this series, I'm so excited to bring it to you!Much love, JessicaFor more about Jessica and additional episodes, visit https://jessicabutts.com/Join the Front Seat Collective here: https://jessicabutts.com/fsl-collective/Follow Jessica on Instagram: @frontseatlifeKaren's One Smart Cookie Marketing: https://onesmartcookiemarketing.com/Follow Karen on Instagram:@karenrosenzweigFront Seat Life Podcasthttps://businessinnovatorsradio.com/front-seat-life-podcast/Source: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/89-fs16-estj-with-karen-rosenzweig

Welcome back to the Front Seat 16, our new series from the Front Seat Life podcast! I am your host Jessica Butts, and today we've got Courtney Anderson as my official ENTJ. It was a very simple choice for me when I was starting all of the Front Seat 16 interviews, it was very obvious to me that Courtney would be my ENTJ. Courtney is a former client and I would consider her a friend now, one who is super wicked smart. As an ENTJ Courtney is sassy and says what's on her mind. I think we're probably like sisters from another mother, we're super similar, and she has been an amazing student. She's now a coach herself and she's got a thriving business.True to form, Counrtney breaks out her sassy side and tells us how life is when you are A Thinking Woman. She starts with some amazing stories when she was just eight years old and had a realization she wasn't quite like everyone else, and didn't care. The stories continue and she reveals some incredible tales I had never heard before. Truly mind-blowing, but on point for an ENTJ.We unpack so many powerful concepts in this conversation, and if you are feeling like you are living an incongruent life right now, this may resonate. It may be a huge eye-opener and I encourage everyone to listen in, it's a good one.I certainly feel that there are people who will listen to this episode, and you may be one of them, maybe you hear yourself in Courtney. And that is validating. It is normalizing. And it's so good for you to know that you're not alone. You're unique and that's perfectly okay. And stay tuned for more powerful episodes in this series, I'm so excited to bring it to you!Much love, JessicaFor more about Jessica and additional episodes, visit https://jessicabutts.com/Join the Front Seat Collective here: https://jessicabutts.com/fsl-collective/Follow Jessica on Instagram: @frontseatlifeCourtney's 30 Ways to Say “No!” freebie: https://www.girlonfire.biz/sayno/Follow Courtney on Instagram: @girl.on.fire.coFront Seat Life Podcasthttps://businessinnovatorsradio.com/front-seat-life-podcast/Source: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/88-fs16-entj-with-courtney-anderson

Today on Creating Your Happy Place, we are chatting with special guest Jessica Butts! Jessica is a Meyers Briggs Expert who decided one day she was done with her home. How did she decide she was done with her home? Was letting go easy? Since she's a former Psychotherapist, what has she discovered about her personality type and how it relates to what she needs from her home? All of these questions and more were answered in this incredible episode. Jessica is the Creator/CEO of Front Seat Life, Myers-Briggs Expert, Life/Business Coach for Intuitive Women, Author, Keynote Speaker, Podcaster, and Former Psychotherapist. She is an ENFJ, truth teller, F bomb dropper, lover of all things Maui, and fiercely dedicated to helping you be unapologetically who you are.Her Links:Website: https://jessicabutts.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/frontseatlife/Rebecca is CEO of her Seattle-based residential interior design company Seriously Happy Homes, author of the book Happy Starts at Home, and host of this podcast! She's a business consultant to her fellow residential interior designers through Seriously Happy Coaching & Consulting and a small business mentor with SCORE Seattle. She can't resist a costume party or a cat video, and has a weakness for Oreos, Taco Bell, and Scotch whiskey.
Jessica Butts, Founder of Front Seat Life, joins Martha to tell us how she became CEO of her life at 37. At 37, Jessica found herself exhausted and uninspired. Her soul was on fire. She NEEDED to do something different. So, she told her husband that she wanted to go to grad school. Funny enough, he had the audacity (the bad kind) to say “no”. What the actual f*c#?! This was the moment that Jessica knew everything must change. Her time with her husband and time in her job promptly came to an overdue stop and today, 10 years later, she is living her best life. Being the Harry Potter fans that they are, Martha and Jessica use the analogy of muggles and wizards to tell their stories and show you how you, too, might be wizard-like they are. “I'm not participating in this capitalist bullshit and treating people like garbage to make more money. Jessica is the Creator/CEO of Front Seat Life, Myers-Briggs Expert, Life/Business Coach for Intuitive Women, Author, Keynote Speaker, Podcaster, and Former Psychotherapist. She is an ENFJ, truth teller, F bomb dropper, lover of all things Maui, and fiercely dedicated to helping you be unapologetically who you are. Jessica is a total go getter who has hustled her way to success in so many areas of her life. And now she’s ready for some rest and possibly even some, gulp, balance. She has seen the impact of hustle on her own life and the lives of so many women. Our obsessive need to hustle comes at a great cost. And it’s time to talk about that. Listen in to hear Jessica share: What prompted her to start “healing her hustle” How to heal the hustle and still be ambitious and driven Why we are hustling - as a result of nature and nurture How 25% of us are innately programmed to always be looking for what’s next - and how this makes hustle to the point of burnout How the patriarchy has forced women and POC to hustle in order to succeed and in many cases, just survive How she realized she was hustled out and how she started to heal The rule she made for herself to break her unhealthy phone habit and the immediate and massive impact it had Why is so important to design a life for your specific personality type How to embrace who you truly are and then lean into your truest self Links mentioned: Watch my free business training and learn about my Tenacious Mamas Mastermind Join Jessica for Healing the Hustle Summer School Podcast: Front Seat Life Quiz link: jessicabutts.com IG: @frontseatlife Thank you to our sponsors: Ana Luisa: Go treat yourself and your loved ones and use my code SHAMELESS to get 10% off at https://www.analuisa.com/shameless. Many of us dream of the perfect, harmonious relationship. Each person is there to support one another equally, help each other become the best versions of yourself, and maintaining the relationship feels effortless. Sometimes we want this kind of relationship so badly, that when our gut is telling us something’s off we ignore it in the hope that we’re in the wrong. Although listening to that gut feeling may be terrifying, it can also be extremely freeing. Jessica Butts and I discussed the euphoria of finding yourself again on this episode of The Divorce Doctor Podcast. Jessica is the creator and CEO of Front Seat Life. She's a Myers-Briggs expert. She's a life business coach for intuitive women. She's a therapist, she's an author. She's a keynote speaker podcaster, and she brings so much love and heart to everything she does. She is an ENFJ, truth teller, F-bomb dropper, a lover of all things Maui, and fiercely dedicated to helping you become unapologetically who you are. In this episode, Jessica and I discuss her sense of freedom as a result of her divorce, and the experience of restoring her individuality.
I'm not weird, I'm an intuitive personality type. What Does That Mean? What Does it Mean to be intuitive in Life, Business, and Relationships? Jessica Butts is a therapist, speaker, coach, and author. She helps female entrepreneurs with an intuitive personality type to find their strengths. Her most recent book is “Don't Do Stuff You Suck At”. Using the Myers-Briggs personality assessment and her own Front Seat Method, Jessica dives into personality strengths and weaknesses so that her clients can be unapologetically themselves and only do the tasks that produce effective results for their time. Jessica is also the author of “Be Unapologetically Who You Are: A Journal From Jessica Butts”. The Power of Personalities Myers Briggs and the Front Seat Life Method I am an INTJ personality on the Myers-Briggs personality scale. Read more to learn what that means! An INTJ Intuitive Personality means: I for Introverted. That means I get energy from being alone, with only one or two people, and having quiet time compared to extroverts who find energy from being with other people. Jessica's Front Seat Method goes into more detail explaining that introverts can also find energy from being with other people, and extroverts do sometimes like to be alone or have quiet time. N for Intuitive. Only 25% of the population are intuitives. Intuitives think outside the box, feel like weirdos, and are unorthodox in their thinking. People with intuitive personalities are very into self-development, think a lot about the future, do not like the status quo and typically don't function well in a 9 to 5 job, don't like routine, and always need something to look forward to. T for Thinking. A thinker makes decisions from the head and is very logical, which is excellent in business. Only 25% of the female population are thinkers. Very few people. In life, and business a more logical decision-maker. J for Judging. Organized, decisive decision-makers, typically on time, have a plan for their future and can get very headstrong with their plans. Jessica's goal is to get everyone back to who they innately are. Environmental factors, the way we were parented, and experiences cause us to change over time. The more people show up as the personality type, they were born with the happy they will be, the more successful they will be, the more money they will make, and the more things will flow. The more unapologetically we are who are, the better life is. But it does take courage. As an INTJ I am kind of a nutty professor. I like projects and researching. As an intuitive, I am more interested in things and concepts where an INFJ is more like a therapist. The Intuitive Personality Type Intuitives are weird. We are outside the box. How can someone with an intuitive personality type fit in and feel better about themselves? Seventy-five percent of the world are S's. When learning this fact, it's mind-boggling as an intuitive personality type to realize that you aren't weird and there is nothing wrong with you. Intuitives are experiential learners. They are often not very scholastic, who are often labeled as learning challenged because we learn differently. Everything in school is set up for S's, and N's don't learn the same. Intuitives learn by doing. They want to engage with things and touch things. They are very hands-on. Humans are very egocentric. We need to learn about how God designed us, how we were born, and start our businesses and relationships based on how we learn, and who we are. Don't Stuff You Suck At Being well-rounded is not practical. Certain cultures believe that is how we are supposed to be, but it isn't possible to achieve. Not everyone can do everything and do everything perfectly. So why do we try to do things we suck at. We need to start accepting ourselves as who we are and not try to be everything. People are designed to be good at two specific things. Good at details and data or creative, outside the box, futuristic, personal development type of things. Think of the front seat and back seat analogy. When we are doing things that we aren't good at because we weren't meant to be doing them, it's like we are in the back seat drunk. It isn't bragging. It's about doing the things you are good at and not wasting your time, money, or energy to do those things. When people try to do things that they aren't good at, it's like everyone in the car falls asleep and the baby in the back seat wakes up. The baby is equal to a reptilian brain. The reptilian brain in times of stress either flights or flees. As an introvert, the baby gets loud and bossy, and angry. In this situation, an extrovert will flee. They will want to be in bed and hiding and not able to show up. When we try to do things that we aren't good with, we lose energy, we aren't in flow, and it feels like walking through mud or pushing a boulder up a hill. The result is depression and not want to get out of bed. Our front seats are where we were born and what we are meant to be. The First Step is Awareness We don't need to try to change ourselves, just recognize what we are good at and what we are not good at. Hire out the rest and contribute to the economy. It is destructive to try to be well rounded. Mindset Work is Great But we Need Action The 3 S's of Taking Action Systems Structure Singular Focus When we try to do everything, it doesn't work. And when you sit around thinking positive thoughts, but don't put action into play, you aren't going to accomplish anything. Action is necessary! Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. Everyone gets to be who they are, they just have to understand who they are. Don't let your life dictate, determine who you are, and take action. Necessary Action to Let Go of Control Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankel is an incredible resource for this topic. Victor writes that there is always a stimulus. Our personal freedom comes between that stimulus and our response. We have to realize what we don't have control over. There is no control over other people, but we can control our reaction to them. “Codependent No More, How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself” by Melodie Beattieis another book that can change one's life by helping them realize what they have control over and have no control over. When people's lives feel out of control, they try to control other things and problems can arise in life and relationships. Learning your own personality type, learning how to self-soothe and take care of yourself, then be in healthy relationships, results in true freedom. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses, then take control to take action to do the work needed to discover your personality to adjust your life accordingly to make an impact on the rest of the world. Self-learning is very powerful and is a lifelong journey of self-exploration. Jessica's methodology always starts with who are you, where are you going, how are you going to get there? You have to have the foundation before you can move forward or everything will crumble. Don't jump ahead before you build the foundation. Don't try to get everyone to like you. Your brand is who you are and how you differentiate yourself. You aren't meant to work with everyone and if people don't like you, it's OK as long as you are being true to yourself. If people don't like you, they aren't a good fit and they'll save you so much time and frustration because they aren't your ideal audience and who you're meant to work with! The more authentic you are, the more you will attract your ideal audience and repel those you aren't meant to work with. Learn more about your host, Robyn Graham, click HERE. What if you could embrace your innateness…and stop doing stuff you suck at? The Myers-Briggs personality type assessment is the most popular personality test in the world. But what does it have to do with business? What if you knew how to focus, how to hire, how to plan, and how to operate in the day-to-day of your business based on your strengths, and surrounded yourself with people who have amazingly valuable–but very different–strengths than you? We all have strengths and very specific things we’re great at. Likewise, we all have things that we are NOT innately good at. What if you stopped trying to be well rounded and started solely working in your zone of genius? In this episode, Meyers-Briggs expert Jessica Butts has come up with a revolutionary new approach to get the most out of the Myers-Briggs personality assessment. Jessica is CEO and Founder of Front Seat Life where she helps inspire, motivate, and educate people to live their life from the ‘front seat’ using their innate abilities. As you’re about to find out, the Myers-Briggs is FAR more than just a personality test! What you’ll learn in this episode: How to embrace your innateness, stop doing things you suck at, and let go of being well rounded The differences between I and E, N and S, F and T, J and P on the Myers-Briggs assessment How Myers-Briggs can save marriages (and all relationships) and how to handle being married to your opposite The importance of both masculine and feminine energy in business What personality type is best suited for entrepreneurship, blogging, and owning your own business How Myers-Briggs can help entrepreneurs bring more ease into their businesses, increase productivity and hire the right people Subscribe and Review Thanks so much for joining me this week. The "REAL" you is an amazing person! You are a person who was made to fill a specific purpose! The World NEEDS YOU!!! Once you embrace that you can let go of the old message that tells you that you are weird or not "normal". What you need to be is not what others tell you to be but rather the best version of you that you can be. The question in all of our lives is, "who is running the show?". Are we living our life and running our business because it is how we SHOULD do it? Or are we embracing who we are and allowing our strengths to shine? Most importantly is to understand just how important who we are is and not let the person we are "supposed" to be drive the car that is our life. Often we have not been taught how to be the best us. When this happens everything in our life and business falls quickly into chaos and confusion. This is a trap we want to avoid. Not only do we want to be our best but we need to know how we were meant to live our best. So today listen to the episode to: 1. Understand the the "seats" in our lives and how they impact all we do 2. Find out what it means to live in our front seat 3. Discover what happens when we are in our backseat 4 Find out how to begin living life in your front seat today Special guest therapist, author, speaker and live coach Jessica Butts will help you understand that often the areas we feel marginalized in are because a part of our personality is not the common type or it difficult or even impossible to fully live in an embrace the way our society is set up. You do not need to be like everyone else or do what they do. In fact trying to be something you are not is one of the most exhausting and impossible. You need to do you! Hello everybody, welcome. This is Jessica Butts, your host of the Front Seat Life Podcast, and today I have interviewed two different people to really highlight the dichotomy of this week's episode, which is Thinking and Feeling. This is one of the most interesting dichotomies because it is very gender biased as well as societally bias.Back in the eighties, John Gray wrote this book called Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus and unknowingly I think he was really talking about this idea that most men are Thinkers and most Women are Feelers. In fact, 66 to 75 percent of men are Thinkers and 66 to 75 percent of women are Feelers. So as a psychotherapist, I've always been so curious about the other 25 percent. These are the marginalized people in our society. The people who end up feeling left out and different and weird and unusual, and “Why doesn't anybody get me?” And those happen to be my two different guests today.First, I talk with Lindsey, a thinking woman, and an INTJ. She explains her perspective on what has been like for her to grow up as a Thinking woman in our society. And then I chat with David, who has been on another episode before, and his experience is especially fascinating, I think. Because he is a Feeling man who, in almost all his intimate relationships, has been with Thinking women and he was also raised by a Thinking woman. And so, it's fantastic getting his perspective on this.I think you're going to learn a lot about your own type. You're going to learn a lot about opposite types, and I hope you become informed and educated in a whole new way. So, enjoy. To find out more about Jessica visit https://jessicabutts.com/.Follow her on Instagram @frontseatlife for daily motivation. Not sure what your Myers Briggs personality type is? Join me as I chat with the highly passionate Business Coach, Author and retired psychotherapist Jessica Butts as she talks about her latest book, Don’t Do Stuff You Suck At. Listen as she explains how she has cleverly put her unique twist to the popular Meyers Briggs Personality Types plus discusses how we can start living life from the front seat!
I often hear from clients about how much they struggle when they're different from each other. In the beginning, we were attracted to this other way of being. We were interested because this person was so different from us. But what intrigued us in the beginning is what often drives us nuts later in the relationship. So even though opposites attract, they can run into misunderstanding and frustration later. Sometimes I hear, "I want to be spontaneous and my partner always needs everything planned and scheduled." Or, "I want to have sex to feel connected. That's how I feel connected to my partner." While the other person is saying, "I need to feel connected first before I'm going to want to have sex with you." Or, when something is wrong in the relationship, there are people that want to dig in and solve it right away and make sure they're coming to a resolution with their partner and that they're both feeling good. But their partner may be of the type that needs to go away and process internally and doesn't want to come back and address the issue until they have it worked out in their mind. These are just some examples of how different people can be from their partner in ways that can cause problems. So, I thought it might be fascinating to have a guest on who specializes in personality type assessment come in and talk about how personality type might impact your sex life. In this episode, we talk about how personality type is really just about energy, where we give our best energy and where we get our best energy. Jessica says that types are on a continuum or scale, that it's not an "either/or" scenario. You aren't an introvert or an extrovert, but a combination of both, maybe leaning towards one side. So, you're more introverted or tend to be more extroverted. In our discussioni, we try to figure out the different ways people show up on this particular assessment and how that might show up in a relationship and specifically with sex. This just gives you another way to think about the differences between you and your partner. How neither person is wrong or broken, but how you have to work together with a different person and make a sex life in a relationship that's going to work for both of you. My special guest today is Jessica Butts. She is the CEO and founder of FrontSeatLife.org, where she inspires, motivates and educates people to live their life from what she calls their "front seat," using their innate personality type as measured by the Myers-Briggs. She calls herself a retired psychotherapist since she's not in practice anymore, and she's now a life and business coach and Myers-Briggs expert who is on a mission really to inspire other people to accomplish magnificent things by embracing their innate type. And one thing you're going to hear her say is to be unapologetically who you are. She's passionate about personal development, traveling, deep connections with people in her life and helping create a hose for her clients. And I'm so delighted that she's agreed to come on the show and talk to us about Myers-Briggs and sex.
