This week, Pastor Josh finishes our series in Jude by showing us how to overcome the influence of false teaching.
Text: 1 Timothy 1:3-11
2 Peter 2:17-22 November 23, 2025 PM.2 Peter chapter 2 ends reminding us about the allure of false teachers and their apostasy. Their words are empty, they pray on weak Christians, and they promise the opposite of what they actually give. They had a so-called knowledge of God but were overtaken by the world. Peter takes false teachers very seriously, and so should we.
2 Peter series message 10Text: II Peter 2:17-22Peter continues his description of false teachers as they lead many astray from the truth. Their chaotic inner turmoil is exposed, as well as their pending judgement.
In this sobering and soul-searching message, Pastor Karl dives deep into Matthew 5:17–48, where Jesus declares that He came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it—and then raises the bar of righteousness far beyond anything the scribes and Pharisees ever imagined.Through six piercing examples—anger that murders the heart, lust that commits adultery in the mind, casual divorce, manipulative oaths, retaliation, and hatred disguised as justice—Jesus exposes the truth we all try to avoid: outward obedience is never enough. God judges the heart. Every single one of us stands guilty before His perfect standard.Yet the bad news is meant to drive us to the best news. Pastor Karl powerfully unpacks how Jesus' command in verse 48—“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect”—is not a cruel impossible demand, but the very reason the Son of God came. We cannot achieve the righteousness God requires, so God freely gives it to us through faith in Christ. Jesus took our unrighteousness and imputes His perfect righteousness to all who repent and trust Him.A hard-hitting, heart-exposing sermon that leaves no room for self-righteousness, but ends with the liberating joy of the gospel: guilty sinners can be clothed in the very righteousness of God and stand before Him as if we had never sinned. In our passage, Peter continues to address false teachers by raising a question that many of us have: How is it that, as false teachers seem to be succeeding, it appears God remains silent while they distort God's Word and lead people astray? Peter will answer this question and show us that their judgment is coming soon. He will also equip his readers to recognize a false teacher by their character and teachings.

Pastor Dustin explained that gratitude is far more than a feeling or a seasonal practice—it's a way of life that has the power to reshape how we see everything. When we fix our attention on what God has given us, complaining becomes harder and our hearts begin to shift. The 25 Days of Gratitude Challenge was designed not as a short-term exercise, but as a catalyst for lasting transformation. Changing our patterns is difficult, but it's essential if we want to live in the fullness God intends.Just as understanding flight changes the way we see airplanes, encountering Christ changes the way we see our entire lives. Paul experienced this firsthand. Once a Pharisee who valued status and outward achievement, his meeting with Jesus completely reframed his perspective. Writing to a culture obsessed with honor and appearance, Paul reminded the church in Corinth—and us—that Christ came in humility and suffering, not worldly glory. Before Christ, we tend to see our time, talents, and treasures as ours alone. But in Christ, everything becomes a gift to steward. Our time is entrusted to us, our abilities are on loan from God, and our resources become tools for His kingdom. Stories from people in our own church, like Roger and Jason, show how talents and resources can be used to serve others and give glory to God.This matters because we are called to be Christ's ambassadors—people who carry His message to a world longing for hope. We don't save anyone; only Christ does. But we are invited to stand in the gap, pointing others back to Him. Generosity, then, isn't simply an obligation. It's a privilege and a sign of spiritual maturity. For believers, the invitation is to open our hands and grow in generosity and sanctification. And for those who don't yet know Christ, the call is to stop searching for peace and belonging apart from Him, and find it in the One who became sin for us so that we might be made right with God.[00:00] - Welcome[00:24] - The Challenge of Gratitude[01:23] - Changing Patterns and Life Transitions[02:22] - Questions About Flight and Learning[03:58] - Discovering How Things Really Work[05:42] - Paul's Transformation and the Gospel[07:17] - How to Read and Understand Scripture[09:00] - Paul's Background and Hypocrisy[11:04] - Corinth: Wealth, Honor, and Culture[12:20] - False Teachers and True Apostleship[13:44] - The Way Things Were: Old Perspective[16:24] - The Way Things Are Now: New Life[18:54] - Stories of Stewardship in the Church[22:36] - Treasures and Generosity[23:25] - Why the Change Matters[24:00] - Ambassadors of Reconciliation[27:06] - The Bobsled Analogy: God's Equipping[32:39] - Challenges for Believers[35:56] - Invitation to Non-Believers[39:29] - Prayer, Response, and Generosity Opportunity[40:47] - Closing and Sending Forth

Send us a textMost 'churches', and indeed their members have today deviated from the faith handed down by the Saviour and His trusted Apostles. For decades many men and women have risen proclaiming themselves to be servants of God; a collection of the downright crazy to the materially greedy, to the deceived. Their followers love them, with a view of the only Saviour and Lord as subordinate to their human leaders. As a result there are many terrible winds of teaching that are anything but what the Holy Bible says, but people believe their leaders have new revelations from God!There are no new revelations, and the Lord Jesus Christ has NOT changed a letter of His written Word. What hurts the true believer who believes, trusts and obeys the written Word of God in this age, is that many professing Christians are headed for eternal damnation to hell, because of their love for their human leaders over and above their love for the only Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. There is only ONE way to be a Christian!

Pastor Josh unpacks Jude 5–16, warning us about the dangers of false teachers and their followers, and calls us to live with humility, sacrifice, and self-control as evidence of true faith.
In this part of the series on the book of Jude, Chris Montgomery delves into verses 17-23, emphasizing the importance of remembering apostolic teachings and staying true to the gospel. The sermon highlights how false teachers create divisions and the need for believers to keep themselves in God's love through faith, prayer, and hope. It concludes with a call to show mercy to those affected by false teachings, urging the church to be conduits of God's mercy.
Jim Osman examines the seduction and lust of false teachers through 2 Peter 2:1-3, warning believers against dangerous deceptions. False teachers operate in a symbiotic relationship with followers who desire teachings that justify their lusts, while teachers gain platforms, money, and power. Peter warns that many will follow their sensuality, thereby maligning the way of truth. These unbelievers are driven by unrestrained immorality, marked by sensuality throughout Scripture. The Charismatic movement provides the largest environment where such teachers flourish, promoting unbridled emotionalism and doctrinal looseness. The antidote requires believers to live above reproach, making the gospel convincing through transformed lives rather than bringing reproach upon Christ's name. ★ Support this podcast ★
As Peter directly addresses false teachers, one wonders whythe Lord allows them to infiltrate the church. The Christian life is hardenough in dealing with the world, our flesh, and the devil; now we need to dealwith false teachers as well. How do we discern between a false and a trueteacher?
This is the last message from 2 Peter 2. We have discussed false teachers and heretics for the last 4 weeks. And this message is just as important. The focus in this study is to look at the influence of false teachers on believers. Heretics are not doing what they do by accident they come to destroy, to exploit and to promise false freedom. It is up to each of us to ensure that we are testing everything and comparing it to the scriptures.
Jim Osman addresses pressing questions in a Q&A covering evangelical concerns and biblical faithfulness. Topics include The Gospel Coalition's theological drift, the modern deliverance ministry movement undermining Scripture's sufficiency, and the Seven Mountain Mandate infiltrating evangelicalism. Osman examines distinctions between essential and non-essential doctrines, female pastoral roles, biblical canon formation, and King James Only errors. He emphasizes that sufficiency of Scripture remains the central battle within evangelicalism today, as experiential theology displaces confidence in God's Word.Questions AskedWhat is the current state of The Gospel Coalition? What do you think about Al Mohler, Mark Dever, and Ligon Duncan's return to Shepherd's Conference? What issues within evangelicalism today should we be on guard against, especially for our children? How do you have a conversation with an unbeliever about God's sovereignty and evangelism? How important is a church prayer chain? What is the Seven Mountain Mandate and its connection to Turning Point USA?Are you a Christian nationalist? What resources would you recommend about how we got our Bible and why certain books were included in the canon? What is your position on female pastors in the church? How do you argue with people who are King James Version (KJV) only? Are there different shades of false teachers, and what about believers who fall into sexual sin like Steve Lawson? What camp would Solomon fall into - believer or unbeliever? What's the difference between Paul's response to the Judaizers in Galatians versus those who preached the gospel with false motives in Philippians? ★ Support this podcast ★
2 Peter 1:1-10a November 9, 2025 PM.In our study of 2 Peter 2, we learn that false teachers will come to the church, but we can be confident in God who protected His people of old from evil men. He judged the wicked and spared His children. The example of Lot reminds us that we need to take clear steps to protect ourselves against false teachers and their corruption.

Doug Horchak discusses Jude 1:3-4—“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Jim Osman examines false teachers through an exposition of 2 Peter 2:1-3, warning believers against three critical dangers. False teachers secretly introduce destructive heresies into the church, not announcing their deception but creeping in quietly while using Christian language and claiming orthodox beliefs. These false teachers promote destructive doctrines that damn unbelievers and render Christians useless and unfruitful. Their depraved desires are marked by sensuality, and their deserved doom brings swift destruction upon them.Believers must beware lest they be deceived by their teachings, seduced by their lusts, or exploited by their greed. The sermon emphasizes that sound doctrine and godly character must go together, as false teachers lack both biblical authority and moral integrity, thereby exerting a destructive influence. ★ Support this podcast ★

Peter warns believers that false teachers among you will secretly introduce destructive heresies into the church. Jim Osman introduces 2 Peter 2:1-3, explaining how this chapter connects with Peter's teaching on Scripture's sufficiency in chapter 1 and the apostolic witness in chapter 3. Throughout Israel's history, false prophets arose among God's people, leading them astray from the truth. Similarly, false teachers among you will deny the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, thereby maligning the way of truth. In their greed, these deceivers will exploit believers with false words. Peter uses Scripture's harshest language to describe false teachers among you because their deceptive doctrines, depraved desires, and deserved doom pose the greatest threat to Christ's church. Believers must remain vigilant, identifying false teachers among you by examining their teaching, character, and the judgment Scripture promises them. ★ Support this podcast ★

He leaves Timothy there to help get things get back on track and in chapter 6, Paul is going to finalize his instructions. In them he says these false teachers have one main motive—money. They want to get rich and Peter says something similar in his letters to the church. Paul says real wealth comes from two things: godliness and contentment. How do we get those two things? The contemporary church could really use this lesson. The church as become soft on standing against false teachers for the fear of being called judgmental. Heresies are dangerous and destructive to the church. We must stand firm against those who do not teach the gospel as it was brought by Jesus Christ and taught by the Apostles.
For the early church, a lot of attention is given related to whether a believer in Christ needed to follow the laws given by Moses, including the law of circumcision. Acts 15, 1 Corinthians 7, Galatians 3, 5-6, Ephesians 2, Philippians 3, and Colossians 2 all address this subject. While we may not find ourselves tempted to follow the laws of Moses, legalism can be a real struggle in the church today, causing harm to whole families and individual believers. Additionally, our current celebrity culture fuels temptation to combine sharing the gospel with dishonest gain, corrupting the message and harming the body of Christ. In our study of Titus, it is vital that we grasp the solid truth that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. While Paul's letter will speak into Christlike character, sound doctrine, and righteous living – we must be careful we don't find ourselves falling into the trap of thinking right standing with God is based on the things we do or the popularity we have. Let us seek to be discerning people, willing to receive correction if our own ways of thinking have gone astray. During our study of Paul's letter to Titus we encourage you to memorize Titus 2:11-14. For this week work on memorizing Titus 2:12“ It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,”Prepare for this week's teaching by reading Titus 1:10-16
