Her annual vocal jazz tour and performance at music festivals have taken her to Europe (Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, and Ukraine), Japan,  The Caribbean (including Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Curaçao, St. Lucia, Turks and Caicos, et. al), Mexico, and across the United States (performing at venues and festivals like The Atlanta Jazz Festivals, Berks Jazz Festival, The Birchmere, Birdland - Hamburg, Blues Alley, Blue Note Hawaii, Capital Jazz Fest/Cruise, City Winery, Disney's Pleasure Island, Gulf Coast Summer Jazz Festival, JazzFestBRNO, JazzHRAM, Jazzkeller - Esslingen, Jazzland - Vienna, The Kennedy Center, Keystone Korner, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival, Rams Head Live, Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, Scullers Jazz, Spivey Hall, Trieste Loves Jazz, and more). Her vocal jazz artist residencies have allowed her to work with and mentor students on college campuses in the USA and abroad. As a veteran vocal music educator and private vocal coach, Lori's received many honors for her contributions to the arts, including The 2025 South Arts Jazz Road Award, The Atlanta Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association's 2023 Excellence in Arts and Entertainment Award, Outstanding Music Teacher in the October 2000 issue of Teaching Music, the 2007 Superintendent's Arts Teacher of the Year, and the 2010 Vincent E. Reed Teacher of the Year. Lori was nominated for a 2014 Helen Hayes Award as an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Resident Musical for her role as Ella Fitzgerald. Lori has received letters of recognition for her performances by President Joseph Biden (wherein he wrote that Lori Williams has "the voice of an angel…absolutely amazing"), Speaker of the House John Boehner, and Senator C. Anthony Muse.  Immersed in traditional jazz from an early age (earning a B.A. in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University, attending the Jazz Studies Program at The University of the District of Columbia, and currently working on her Master's degree in Music - Jazz Studies at Georgia State University), Lori Williams hosts a weekly radio program on JazzRadioWETF.org -  "Collector's Choice With Lori Williams". Her weekly broadcast highlights women in jazz, the international scene and young performers dedicated to the roots and traditions of the music. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Nathan Mitchell from Broken Arrow, OK. Thank you for your partnership with us through Project23. Your commitment is helping deliver God's Word with clarity and conviction. This one's for you. Our text today is Judges 7:4–8. And the LORD said to Gideon, “The people are still too many. Take them down to the water, and I will test them for you there, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,' shall go with you, and anyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,' shall not go.” So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set by himself. Likewise, everyone who kneels down to drink.” And the number of those who lapped, putting their hands to their mouths, was three hundred men, but all the rest of the people knelt down to drink water. And the LORD said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men who lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hand, and let all the others go every man to his home.” So the people took provisions in their hands, and their trumpets. And he sent all the rest of Israel every man to his tent, but retained the three hundred men. And the camp of Midian was below him in the valley. — Judges 7:4-8 You'd think losing 22,000 soldiers was enough. But God isn't finished. He tells Gideon, “The people are still too many.” This time, there's no speech to the crowd — just a strange test at the water's edge. Soldiers kneel or lap water from their hands. The result? Only 300 make the cut. No explanation about why this method mattered. No insight into the military reasoning. Just God's choice — and His promise: “With the three hundred men… I will save you.” Gideon is now down to less than 1% of his original army. From a human perspective, the odds aren't just bad — they're impossible. And that's exactly how God wants it. When you're down to your “less than 1%,” it's not always a sign that God has abandoned you — sometimes it's proof he's setting the stage for His glory. Gideon's reduction wasn't about military strategy; it was about making sure Israel couldn't take credit. God will sometimes allow your resources, influence, or opportunities to shrink to a fraction of what you think you need. Why? So the only explanation left is him. In everyday life, this might look like a budget cut that forces you to depend on his provision, a smaller team that makes you lean harder on his strength, or fewer open doors so that when the right one opens, you know it's from him. We resist these reductions because they feel like loss. But in God's hands, they're actually preparation. He removes what you think you need so you can discover he's all you truly need. ASK THIS: Where has God been reducing your “army” lately? How could this loss be positioning you for a greater dependence on Him? Are you tempted to measure God's ability by your resources? What would it look like to trust Him with your “less than 1%”? DO THIS: Identify one area in your life where God has reduced your resources. Instead of panicking, thank Him for the opportunity to see His power more clearly. PRAY THIS: Lord, when my strength is reduced and my resources run low, help me remember that You are setting the stage for Your power. Teach me to trust You more than what's in my hands. Amen. But I have never thought to take a minimum of supplies when I fly on vacation or when I travel to other countries. What things would you recommend in a travel kit, at a minimum? Thinking that you dont have your vehicle, might be in another country, and may have restrictions on the things you bring? Dutch Walker - My Mitchell Defense story. Roughly a year ago, I picked up a Mitchell Defense rifle in 6 ARC. I was excited when they started offering this caliber, especially after hearing high praise from Shawn and Nick. An interview with Nathan Mitchell, the company's founder, sealed the deal, and I ordered one right away.First Impressions out of the box, the rifle looked fantastic, the components were of high quality and I was eager to take it to the range.The rifle ran smoothly, cycling perfectly with or without a suppressor. But when I tested its accuracy my groups at 100 yards were consistently over 3 inches, no matter the ammo. To make sure it wasn't me, I shot other ARs, including another in 6 ARC, and got sub-MOA groups. I contacted Mitchell Defense, and Nathan himself called me to talk through the issue. He immediately sent an RMA for the upper. His team wasn't satisfied with its performance either, so they upgraded me to a Proof carbon fiber barrel at no extra cost—a serious step up. Unfortunately, the new barrel had the same problem. I'd get three shots grouped tightly, but two would stray 2-3 inches in random directions. I sent Nathan photos of my groups, and he replied with some troubleshooting tips. Sometime later, when I emailed him to let him know I was heading to the range to try his suggestions, he called again. This time, he said they'd found an issue with certain Proof barrels and sent another RMA. A few weeks ago, I got my rifle back with a new Proof barrel. Last weekend, despite 17-20 mph crosswinds,
