This week, we're looking at the dueling reactions to the Annunciation school shooting. On the left, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D.) is calling for a special session of the legislature to pass a gun-control package likely to include an AR-15 ban. On the right, the Department of Justice is reportedly considering an effort to ban all trans people from owning guns. The Second Amendment Foundation is opposed to both of these ideas. So, we have Kostas Moros, a lawyer who was recently hired by the gun-rights group, back on the show to explain why he doesn't like the proposals and how they might fare legally and politically. Moros said any attempt to blanket-ban people who identify as trans or who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria from owning guns would run into serious legal and constitutional trouble. He explained that current law requires an individual finding of dangerousness for the government to strip anyone of their gun rights on the basis of mental health. He argued, even if Congress changed the law, it would run afoul of the Second Amendment, and the Supreme Court would likely strike it down. Moros argued the same is true for the potential "assault weapons" ban that could come out of Minnesota. He said four Supreme Court justices have already signaled they'd strike down a ban, and a Minnesota law could actually provide further reason for the Court to get involved. Special Guest: Kostas Moros.

Critics argue the use of such hormones is dangerously underregulated, while others see the proposed restrictions as discriminatory. The debate is intensifying as new details emerge about the Minnesota school shooter and the broader implications of gender ideology on mental health and public safety.

Rhode Island Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz says the bill banning the manufacture, sale, and transfer of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms adopted by the legislature last Friday is just the beginning, and tells Cam she expects anti-gunners will be back to take a bigger bite out of our 2A rights next session.

It's also the day the full Senate is expected to vote on an "assault weapons" ban; one that, at the moment, differs from the version passed by the House. Cam details the potential scenarios for the bill, while also taking a look at the gun control bills that failed to become law in New York this year.

Today's Headlines: The Trump–Musk bromance may be ending, with Elon blasting Trump's $2.3 trillion spending bill as a “disgusting abomination” and calling to oust lawmakers who supported it. Meanwhile, the Trump administration formally requested Congress to undo $9.4B in DOGE's previous cuts via a rescission process, still falling far short of Musk's promised $2T in cuts. New 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum go into effect tonight (except for the UK), but are subject to change next month. The administration also rescinded 2022 guidance protecting abortion access in emergency cases, exposing providers to prosecution in 13 states with total bans. FEMA's acting head reportedly didn't know the U.S. had a hurricane season, worsening concerns as meteorologists warn they're too understaffed to predict storm paths. In other news, DHS officers handcuffed a Nadler aide, accusing his office of “harboring rioters” after staff watched ICE detain migrants. The Tenth Circuit rules on the other kind of domestic violence restraining order that triggers a gun ban. However, it comes to the same conclusion that the Supreme Court did in US v. The ATF also announced two significant moves, one replacing their "zero tolerance" dealer inspection policy and another expanding "Brady permits."
Summary In this episode of Armed American Radio, host Mark Walters discusses the recent Georgia Supreme Court decision regarding the carrying of handguns by individuals aged 18 to 21. Joined by Paul Markle, the conversation delves into the interpretation of the Georgia Constitution, the implications of age restrictions on rights, and the hypocrisy surrounding laws that treat young adults as capable of making significant life decisions while denying them certain rights. The discussion also touches on the role of military training in the context of civilian rights and the potential for legislative changes in response to the court's ruling. Takeaways The Georgia Supreme Court upheld a law restricting handgun carry for ages 18-21. Interpretation of the Georgia Constitution is open to debate. Age restrictions on rights often lack logical consistency. Young adults can enter into significant contracts but are denied certain rights. The hypocrisy of age laws is evident in various contexts. Military training does not equate to civilian rights. Legislative action is necessary to address these issues. The concept of tyranny is highlighted by unequal laws. Proposed solutions include allowing young adults to choose their rights. The conversation emphasizes the need for honest discussions about rights. The Texas Senate approved a bill Wednesday that takes aim at the State Fair of Texas' gun ban. The policy was put in place last year after a gunman shot three fairgoers in 2023. Tthe bill's author, state Sen. Bob Hall, R-Rockwall, said the move denied “citizens their right to self-defense.” The legislation, headed to the Texas House of Representatives, would prevent contractors from banning guns in government-owned public spaces, unless state law says otherwise. In other news, detainees at the Bluebonnet immigrant detention center in the small city of Anson, about 200 miles west of Dallas sent the outside world a message this week: S-O-S; in a surprising alliance, the Texas oil and gas lobby has joined forces with renewable energy developers to sink a proposal that would require all existing solar and wind generators to guarantee they can provide power when needed; nd the Dallas Stars are one win away from advancing out of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and ending the Colorado Avalanche's season.
