Here’s a sample episode recapping four Tuesday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts: ihr.fm/3InlkL8 100 Days of Trump Clay Travis and Buck Sexton dive into a variety of significant topics, starting with the first 100 days of President Trump's second term. They discuss the transformative and fast-paced changes under Trump 2.0, highlighting major investment commitments totaling over $5 trillion from companies like Apple, Nvidia, TSMC, OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. These investments are expected to generate over 451,000 high-paying jobs, surpassing the achievements of the previous administration. The conversation shifts to the upcoming Vice President JD Vance in the second hour. The hosts express their excitement about discussing key issues such as men's and women's sports, tariffs, the border, and the Trump administration's economic policies. They also touch on the Philadelphia Eagles' visit to the White House and briefly mention the Canadian election results, expressing limited interest in Canadian politics. The hosts analyze the impact of Trump's policies on the economy, emphasizing the importance of maximizing energy production and securing significant trade deals. They debate the potential re-election scenarios for past presidents like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Ronald Reagan, speculating on their chances if they had been eligible to run for a third term. VP JD Vance Clay and Buck interview Vice President JD Vance. Vance discusses the first 100 days of the Trump-Vance administration, focusing on the success in securing the border, the challenges posed by far-left judges, and the efforts to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse within the government. He also addresses the issue of men competing in women's sports and defends the administration's tariff policies. After Vance's segment, the hosts continue to explore various political and social issues. They discuss the potential presidential candidates for the 2028 election, including Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. The conversation includes speculation about the future of the Democratic Party and the challenges faced by certain candidates due to their backgrounds, including former Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Governor JB Pritzker. The Power of Perception Speaker Mike Johnson praises President Trump's accomplishments in the first 100 days of his second term. Johnson highlights achievements such as removing men from women's sports, ending DEI in the federal government and military, expanding oil and gas extraction, securing trillions in new investments, and combating antisemitism on college campuses. The hosts discuss Senator Tommy Tuberville's enthusiastic support for Trump's performance, grading it an A+. They contrast this with CNN's Harry Enten's analysis, which points out Trump's lower approval ratings compared to his first term and other presidents. Clay and Buck argue that poll numbers are less relevant since Trump is not running for re-election and emphasize the importance of his policy actions over approval ratings. Economic Reality The conversation shifts to the administration's focus on economic issues, particularly inflation. Clay highlights a poll showing that 44% of Americans consider inflation their top economic concern. They discuss the importance of reducing the cost of goods and maintaining economic stability to ensure public support. FSU Chief of Police Jason Trumbower confirmed that two people have died, and six others are at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. The shooter was also taken to the hospital. Despite initial reports that there were two shooters, police confirmed the shooter acted alone and there is no further threat to the community. 6:15pm- According to reports, the suspected Florida State University shooter—Phoenix Ikner—was quoted in an FSU News article earlier this year. He stated: “I think it's a little too late, he's [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there's not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don't think anyone wants that.” FSU News has removed the quote from the story—leaving an editorial notation of the decision. 6:20pm- Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee David Hogg announced that he plans to challenge moderate Democrats in upcoming primaries—favoring more progressive challengers. In preparation for the speech, the New York Times reports that Booker hadn't eaten since Friday and hadn't had anything to drink since Sunday—as he wasn't permitted to leave the Senate floor to use the restroom during his speech. The Times also noted that Booker's marathon speech actually delayed a planned vote on a Democrat-led bill reversing President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian imports. 4:05pm- President Donald Trump, speaking from the Rose Garden, announced “Liberation Day” and pledged to “make America wealthy again”—explaining that for decades the United States economy has been punished by onerous tariffs placed on American-made goods being exported internationally. Trump signed an executive order which would place “reciprocal tariffs” on foreign nations and will serve as America's “Declaration of Economic Independence.” The tariffs will take effect at midnight on April 5th. The reciprocal tariffs will be half of what trading partners are currently charging the U.S. An additional 10% universal baseline tariff will be applied to all countries considered to be acting in bad faith. Will the Trump Administration remove tariffs on countries that remove tariffs on American-made goods? Trump stated: “To all foreign presidents, prime ministers, kings, queens, ambassadors, and everyone else who will soon be calling to ask for exemptions to these tariffs, I say—terminate your own tariffs, drop your barriers, don't manipulate your currencies…and start buying tens of billions of dollars of American goods.” 5:05pm- In response to President Donald Trump's tariff announcement, futures on the S&P 500 are initially down just over 1%. He appears on "The David Rubenstein Show: Peer to Peer Conversations." This interview was recorded on January 17 in Annapolis, Maryland.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

President Trump issued a slew of executive actions in his first few days in office focused on federal workers. That includes requiring a return to full-time to in-person work and making it easier for the executive branch to replace civil servants with political appointees. D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson and Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart joined us to weigh in and discuss how the president's actions may impact residents in our region.Plus, Chair Mendelson discussed a new U.S. Attorney for D.C., the Council's pending decision on expelling Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White, and what's next for the RFK Stadium site. Like Virginia's suburbs, Montgomery County is devising a plan to build more affordable housing. The Attainable Housing Strategies initiative recommends zoning changes in some single-family neighborhoods to allow for more construction of duplexes, triplexes, and small apartment buildings. But not every elected county leader agrees with the plan. Council President Stewart gave us her take on the latest on the debate. Plus, we asked her to share thoughts on Maryland Governor Wes Moore's plan to bridge a three billion dollar budget gap.Become a member of WAMU: wamu.org/donateSend us questions and comments for guests: kojo@wamu.orgFollow us on Instagram: instagram.com/wamu885

Today's Headlines: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dissolved his war cabinet after the exit of his political rival Benny Gantz, planning instead to hold smaller meetings with individual officials. Although the war cabinet is gone, Netanyahu has not abandoned the proposed hostage and ceasefire deal, despite threats from his ultra-right-wing ministers to collapse his majority if he proceeds. Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence officials, including former FBI Director Christopher Wray, have warned of an increased threat of a serious terror attack, with heightened concerns around the southern border and potential involvement from groups like Hamas or state actors like Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting North Korea for the first time since 2000 to discuss military cooperation with Kim Jong Un, potentially violating UN resolutions regarding weapons trade. In the U.S., Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced plans to issue mass pardons for over 175,000 marijuana convictions, marking a significant move toward criminal justice reform. Additionally, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy is advocating for warning labels on social media platforms to combat the mental health crisis among young users, along with other regulatory measures to protect children's data and limit addictive features.
