This weeks episode we have a super awesome interview. This is the first time I've done a live interview and it's also the first time I've co-hosted an interview. We've got Heath Padgett back on the podcast and we're interviewing Andy Robinowitz from RV Life. If you didn't see the blog post the RV Entrepreneur podcast has been sold to Andy and the RV Life team. All three of us were in the Dallas, Fort Worth Texas area so we got to sit down together, have a conversation in the same room and it's really cool to hear both of these gentlemen speak. We get to talk a little bit about how the transfer of the podcast went from Heath to Andy, and then we spend the rest of the time talking with Andy about RV Life and what he's grown the business into. Andy is a repeat customer on the podcast. (Episode 120: https://anchor.fm/rve/episodes/RVE-120-How-Andy-Built--Monetized-the-Largest-Online-RV-Community-ea37a9/a-a4g5npd) He was one of the early guests several years ago, but since then has created and established himself as a leader in the RV industry with his software and his forums and RV Life, the overarching umbrella of all his RV related content. I'm really excited for you guys to hear the conversation between the three of us. And I feel humbled to be in the room with these two gentlemen. Welcome to Montrose Fresh, from The Montrose Daily Press. It's FridayMay 14th, and we're here with local news, events, announcements, jobs, and more that matter to us here in Western Colorado. Today - Camping World, America's largest retailer of RVs and related products and services, announced its acquisition last month of Montrose's Nomad Reservations. Today's episode is brought to you by Elevate Internet. Whether it's for your home or your business they offer the best speeds at the best price. Right now, if you refer a friend you can get $25 off! Give them a call for more information at 844-386-8744 or visit them at www.elevateinternet.com. Now, our feature story… Camping World, America's largest retailer of RVs and related products and services, announced its acquisition last month of Nomad Reservations. Nomad helps travelers find and book campsites. They also offer campsite owners a property management system. Nomad Reservations was co-founded by CEO Heath Padgett and CTO Paul Ryan, who has been instrumental in creating the product. They both spent years as full-time RVers, meeting at campsites a few times a year before eventually developing the idea for Campground Booking. They understand the struggles that can come with booking campsite reservations. The company relocated to Montrose last year and got funds from the Greater Colorado Venture Fund. They pitched during the Greater Colorado Pitch Series, an investment initiative for rural Colorado companies. Camping World approached Padgett, Nomad's CEO, this past January, looking to partner or invest. At the time talks revolved around potentially investing, but the two sides realized their roadmaps were similar. Hiring locally and not having to relocate, staying in Montrose were “meaningful” parts of the conversations. And when he announced the acquisition, Marcus Lemonis, CEO and chairman of Camping World Holdings said that his technology acquisition complements their other launches. Those launches include a Peer-to-Peer RV Rental Platform. The more the two parties talked, the more it was an interesting proposition. Since then, Nomad has already brought on two more developers. And they're hiring two more support roles, as well as another account executive. With the acquisition, Campground Booking will now work closely with Good Sam, an organization of RV owners focused on making RVing safer. Good Sam has more than 2 million members. And since the relocation to Montrose, Campground Booking has added eight jobs, including some team members that already lived in Montrose, like Dennis Lankes, co-founder of Montrose's Proximity Space. Padgett told the Montrose Daily Press the company is looking to add three to four positions in Montrose. The most significant challenge now, according to Padgett, is learning how to balance demand, with supply issues. The latest reports show a 48% increase in total RV shipments from 2020 to 2021. This year, Campground Booking is somewhat avoiding a revenue-based goal, instead focusing on getting to 500 parks on the platform. They're looking at how they can create a meaningful booking network. That includes helping businesses in the United States that don't have a booking platform yet. And Nomad Reservations is just the latest outdoor-based company in Montrose to see successful trends in the past year. Geyser Systems, Colorado Yurt, Colorado Outdoors, Ed's Fly Shop and others all reported seeing increased interest in their products and the outdoor industry as a whole. One of the 26 panels of petroglyphs created by early Ute inhabitants depict the life of people in the Uncompahgre Plateau. There are carvings of animals, trees, human figures, ceremonial dances, and abstract art. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, you can visit it today by scheduling a tour at History Colorado's Ute Indian Museum here in Montrose. - And finally, before we go we'd like to remember the life of Ralph William Darling of Montrose. Ralph and his twin brother, Bob, were born in 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. They were the fifth and sixth of eight children. In 1953 he married Dorothea Somers, his wife of 51 years. Ralph joined the Marines during the Korean Conflict, serving as a master drill sergeant and was wounded twice in battle. He rarely spoke of his battle experiences, but he held great pride in being a Marine to his last day. Right before he passed, he asked for his Marine ball cap to be placed on his head. He lived in and served the city of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, both as a police officer and as a public works supervisor. He retired in 1987, and they moved to Montrose. There they enjoyed making new friends, dining at the Red Barn and taking scenic car rides through the mountains. They ran a holiday caramel corn business called Mrs. D and Me for many years. Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching his beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears win or lose — if they played, he was a happy, loyal fan. He loved to drink a cold beer, tell a few jokes and just be with friends. Ralph had a big personality and never met a stranger. He was loyal, hard-working, and loved to laugh as much as he yelled. He will be dearly missed. Thank you for taking the time today to remember and celebrate Ralph's life. - That's all for today, thank you for listening! Michael and I first met Heath (and his wife Alyssa) Padgett on their United States tour filming a documentary called Hourly America. They worked one hourly job in each of the 50 states and documented the experience to share with others. Who did they choose in the State of Florida? None other than New Scooters 4 Less! This started a friendship that has lasted for years. We were excited when Heath, Alyssa, and their new daughter Ellie were passing through Gainesville and hit us up! Of course, we decided… “What better way to catch up than on the podcast?!” Heath joined us for a great episode to share where their journey continued after completing their Hourly America documentary. Building a business while traveling the United States in an RV is an adventure all in itself and we were excited to hear all about it! 1:30 Shoutout to our sponsor Andy Mauldin of Watson Realty Corp.! 3:49 Let’s explain how we actually met. 9:37 We weren’t planning on having an extended life on the road in an RV. 12:08 What sparked the “Hourly America” documentary? 21:03 What was the next thing after the documentary? 26:17 This year we’re going to buy a campground. 30:44 What’s the hardest part of RV life? 37:56 Being on the road has created all these amazing serendipitous relationships. 46:07 Somebody trolled Alyssa on Christmas Eve, at like 8 pm. 50:43 Out of all the jobs you did with “Hourly America,” which was your favorite? 53:01 What’s one piece of advice that you would offer to our audience? 59:12 Where should I absolutely 100% go if I have an RV? We have a fun episode in store for you this week as we welcome Heath Padgett to the podcast. Many of you know Heath and his wife Alyssa, the hosts of the RV Entrepreneur Website, YouTube Channel and Podcast. Heath and Alyssa are a young couple who have traveled all over North America as a couple but, about six months ago, were blessed with the birth of a baby girl… Ellie. And now, they are RVing with an infant. Heath shares what that changes, compared to their previous traveling routines. And we talk about being an RV Entrepreneur and working remotely from the road. Also, we have lots of RV News, Tips, comments questions and another fun off-the-beaten-path report from the Burketts. But first my lifelong traveling companion and my bride…Jennifer. Show Notes for Episode #272 Dec. 11, 2019 of The RV Podcast; WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK We are in Christmas mode here… hanging with family and friends, attending our grandkids Christmas recitals and concerts, getting the shopping done, the tree up and looking forward to the Big Day. Speaking of which, since Christmas and New Years’s Day both occur this year on Wednesday – our normal podcast release day – we will be taking off the 25th and January 1st from producing the podcast. So our last episode of the year will be next Wednesday, Dec. 18. And our next episode after that will be January 8. Also this week, we’re doing the finishing edits of our next 7 Day Adventure Guide ebook, which will cover Florida’s fabulous Gulf Coast. Barring unforeseen circumstances, it should be released next week. In fact I hope we can announce its availability on our Sunday night “Ask Us Anything” live broadcast on YouTube. If you’ve never caught us in that live Q&A show, just go to YouTube.com/RVLifestyle and subscribe. When you click the little bell icon, you will then be notified when we go live or have a new video to see. So the plan is to make it available after 7PM Sunday, to be officially announced on our YouTube RV Lifestyle Channel. That way it will be able to help those snowbirds planning to head to Florida after the holidays. And just a heads up, our Seven Day Adventure Guide to the Gulf Coast will be followed in a few weeks with a Seven Day Adventure Guide to the Atlantic Coast… so we will soon have two guides out covering Florida. The Gulf Cast guide will be ready next week. So stay tuned! TO SEE ALL OUR CURRENT TRAVEL GUIDES AND E-BOOKS, CLICK HERE We hope you are enjoying this podcast. If so, will you help us get the word out? RV LIFESTYLE NEWS OF THE WEEK Invasive species pose real problems to the national parks A report out last week said many of America's national parks are under a "deep and immediate threat," posed by non-native species, like rats, domesticated cats and feral pigs. Since non-native species have no natural predator, they can breed and reproduce quickly, causing problems to the ecosystem of national parks. Whenever I read reports like this, I always think of the problem with Burmese boa constrictors in the Everglades and Big Cypress National Preserve (see story here of our visit a while back) but apparently there are all sorts of various critters causing all sorts of problems. Plans for New Year's Day? Why not take a hike? State parks throughout the country are planning First Day Hikes on New Year's Day - which believe it or not is less than a month away. The free,
This week we welcome Heath Padgett of RV Entrepreneur to the show, and he and Jason had such a great time that the interview is two segments, instead of just one. But don't worry, Abby is still around and she and Jason break down holiday travel, the WORST Christmas song, and Abby has a fresh tank that she can't get her hands on fast enough.
Have you ever tried to book a campsite online using a campground’s website only to find they have an email message system. You write down all of your info and what type of site you are looking for…then they never email you back. This process is incredibly frustrating! In honor of Sam’s first trip to The RV Entrepreneur Summit, check out these clips of how this event has impacted guests on the Stories from the Road podcast! Plus, hear Heath Padgett, from HeathandAlyssa.com and The RV Entrepreneur Podcast, tell the story behind the event and how it got started.
Heath Padgett convinced his fiancé Alyssa to quit their jobs after their wedding, buy an RV and set out on the road for an extended 1 year honeymoon to live the RV life. His idea was to travel to all 50 States in their first year of marriage and along the way, find and work an hourly job in each state. Heath's goal wasn’t to document the plight of hourly workers but to explore how people find meaning in their work. "It really set the stage for us to live a whole year in a constant state of discomfort." - Heath Padgett on working an hourly job in all 50 states in 1 year. Alyssa, without any videography experience grabbed a camera and began filming their adventures and it blew up and turned into the documentary, Hourly America. They were featured on CNN, Forbes, CBS and all of the others. But what they also discovered was that executing on their idea was more difficult than they anticipated and half way through their mission, they almost quit. We talk about what happened and what drove them to continue.

Find Your Dream Job: Insider Tips for Finding Work, Advancing your Career, and Loving Your Job
Can your resume engage a human resource manager and make them want to read more? Or, does it just blend in with all other task-oriented resumes they receive? This week’s guest expert Andrea Gerson has seen thousands of resumes, and shares her best practices to help you get the attention of your intended employer. She says, “It can be challenging for people to quantify what they have done, and to brag about their contributions.” Most people are encouraged to be humble and not to boast about their accomplishments, but a job seeker can miss out on a great career opportunity, if they don’t properly quantify their competencies and qualify their contributions on their resume. Use these resume tips to help you get an interview: Use the primary real estate (top third) of your resume to engage your reader. Add quantitative information about your high-level accomplishments that pertain to the job for which you are applying. Include your goals and intentions, and how they may benefit the prospective company. Add pertinent information in bite-sized pieces, and in concise bullet points. Use the S.T.A.R. Framework, and be consistent when formatting your resume. You have one chance to make an impact to get the job you want. Make the most of it! Andrea Gerson Bio Andrea Gerson helps professionals find clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of energy in their work. Andrea is the founder of Resume Scripter. She has created and edited resumes and cover letters for more than 3,000 people. And, her client’s organizations have included Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Bloomberg, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, the United Nations, and The Red Cross. Ben’s Job Search Resource: Ben’s resource this week is from Epic CV’s resume section and is titled "10 Pros, 4 Cons and 5 Risks of Graphic Resumes". 9 out of 10 people do not benefit from a non-traditional resume, but if your job description includes graphic design or creative director, a graphic resume may give you an advantage. If you are applying for a job and you know your resume will go through an automated keyword based system, do not, don’t, never ever and refrain from submitting a graphic resume. Jenna’s Find Your Dream Job Listener Question: Ben, Jenna and Mac respond to Heath Padgett’s question, “How do you support members of your family while they look for a job?” If you would like the team to answer a job-related question, email it to jenna@macslist.org, or call her at 716-JOB-TALK. If we use your question on the air, you will receive a copy of our new book, Land Your Dream Job Anywhere (to be published February 1, 2017). Or, if you’ve found a job resource you think everyone should know about, send it to ben@macslist.org, and tell him how it has helped you find your dream job. After college, Heath and his wife Alyssa both started off working conventional office jobs. However, that lifestyle was so boring they didn’t last a year before they knew sitting in an office all day for the next forty years wasn’t going to work. They both love to travel, but when you’re 25, it isn’t always easy or affordable to see the world. Together they hatched a plan to quit their jobs, buy an old RV off Craigslist, and cross off a major bucket list item: traveling to all fifty states.Four days after their wedding, they hopped into their 1994 Coachman Leprechaun and headed west. They spent the next seven months on a cross-country road trip that spanned across 48 states. As they traveled, they loved their new lifestyle so but didn’t want their full-time travel lifestyle to end after they visited all fifty states; they wanted to find a way to keep traveling indefinitely. So, they started finding dozens of creative ways to make money during their travels: sponsorships, books, consulting, film work, podcasting, affiliate marketing, blogging, and more. After hearing about your yearning for a kayak the last few weeks --- something that I also have had lately -- I wanted to tell you about a foldable kayak (Orukayak.com). My wife, son and I purchased a 2014 CS Adventurous new and have enjoyed it immensely. When I retire -- I wanted to be able to take two kayaks and 2 bikes on a Roadtrek. So, I've been trying to figure out how to do it. I had looked at the set up you recently mentioned a while ago -- but didn't like so much that only a 9 or 10 ft kayak could be used -- plus, couldn't get in the back of the RV if I remember right (it didn't swing out). I'm definitely not an inflatable kayak guy -- earlier in my life I had a 17 ft. sea kayak and just need something better then a raft. A few weeks ago we purchased a Beach model of the Oru Kayak. I was skeptical -- but really amazed at how quickly it went together and how well it performed in the water. Then got a Bay plus model and really liked how well it works. Both of these are 12 ft kayaks and fold up in to a box size of 33 x 30 x 13 inches approximately.
Heath Padgett was in software sales in Austin, TX when he decided that the job and lifestyle didn't suit him. Newlyweds, Heath and his wife Alyssa decided to trade a house in surburbia and a corporate career for a 29-foot RV and odd jobs across the country. Now they are living and working a lifestyle business that allows them unlimited travel and an always-on vacation. Heath Padgett lives, works and travels full-time in an RV. Last year Heath worked a different job in all 50 states and just finished editing a documentary with his wife called Hourly America. Heath is a bit of an RV enthusiast (okay, a big one). He also hosts a weekly podcast called The RV Entrepreneur where he interviews nomadic entrepreneurs who have built businesses while traveling full-time. Show notes at http://hellotechpros.com/heath-padgett-unplugged/ Key Takeaways There are jobs to be found in all 50 states, you just have to be willing to work them When you are 23, there is an expectation that you should get a good job and travel later when you have money saved up Why not seize the moment? The downsized life is currently hip and cool RVs aren't just for retirees anymore We exist in a culture of busyness and many feel the pressure to always be on, to never take a break We need to calm down and not be so stressed The top performers in sports focus on breathing and on breaks, we should too Being reactive is like playing defense, you are waiting for life to throw it at you then be very reactionary It's very hard to get ahead in this mode Being proactive is like playing offense, you are creating opportunities through thoughtfulness and investments If you work hard and plan accordingly, you can build success and freedom Home is wherever you go Resources Mentioned HeathPadgett.com The RV Entrepreneur Podcast - iTunes | Stitcher Radio The Hunt for Red October (1990) The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy (listen on Audible) Winnebago Gone with the Wynns Ditching Suburbia Resources Mentioned ScrumBrawl Transource Media About Hello Tech Pros Hello Tech Pros is the daily podcast that interviews business professionals who work with technology and discuss Motivation, Productivity, Leadership, Technology, People, Entrepreneurship and Being Unplugged.

The College Info Geek Podcast: Study Tips & Advice for Students
In this episode, I talk with Heath Padgett - a guy who decided to buy an RV with his wife just a couple years after college and work an hourly job in all 50 U.S. states. Afterwards, they stayed in the RV - and paid off $15,000 of student debt in a year!
Heath & Alyssa Padgett on Facing Down Big Challenges:“Don't be afraid of what other people say or what other people think. … Instead of trying to do what everybody else is doing, figure out what works best for you. You are unique and you do have something to offer to people and it doesn't have to be what everybody else says it is.” ~ Alyssa & Heath PadgettIn May 2014, Alyssa and Heath Padgett were married. Four days later, they hit the road in their first home together, a 1994 Coachman Leprechaun motor home. Months earlier, they had both agreed that they wanted to quit their jobs and leave Texas, where they'd grown up. They wanted to be fulltime writers, and their initial jobs out of college weren't moving them any closer to that dream. Their idea to travel morphed into a seven-month honeymoon road trip to all 48 states. But they realized they couldn't travel aimlessly for that long. So Heath came up with the idea to work a different job in every state and film a documentary entitled “Hourly America” about their experiences. They were able to find a sponsor to help cover some of their costs. I met them in Portland, OR, while we were attending the World Domination Summit in the summer of 2014. We were working together on the film team covering various stories during the conference. My wife, Linda, and I were inspired by their vision and hutzpah, and have been following their exploits both on the road and off.In this episode, Heath and Alyssa talk about tackling a creative project with hutzpah, dealing with conflict when you're living in an RV, and pushing aside the excuses that keep you from pursuing your passion and taking that big risk. When something seems too big, and too crazy – it's all about taking small steps every day, finding someone to encourage you, and putting some skin in the game to push you to commit on a bigger level.
