My conversation with Jennifer DiStefano, Kris Amplo and Bryan Kuhl: A four person conversation on the Meet Mediocrity Podcast! And, an incredibly special and powerful conversation at that. Jen DiStefano is the widow of Matthew (Dezi) DiStefano - an incredibly strong, inspirational, special man who lost his battle to cancer in January 2020. Kris and Bryan are long time friends of Matthew and now they help lead the DezyStrong Foundation, an organization founded by Matthew while he was battling cancer. Today, the DezyStrong Foundation helps cancer patients and their families with financial support to help take a little pressure off of a high pressure situation. Matthew was an accomplished athlete, a high school teacher and perhaps one of the most successful varsity volleyball coaches in Long Island history. In his athletic endeavors, Matthew became an inspiration and a role model to so many young women and men he came in contact with. After his cancer diagnosis Matthew's energy and contagious enthusiasm grew, where most other people's would wane. Matthew's motto “I GET TO” resonates with anyone! Whether it's going to work, going to the gym, getting out of bed in the morning, eating healthy… anything at all - you don't HAVE TO, you GET TO. Every day we walk the planet Earth should be viewed as a great day. That's what DeziStrong is all about, and that's what Meet Mediocrity is all about too! That small perspective shift changed My run and how I attack my goals. In this episode, we'll discuss: Finding the "have to's" in life Reestablishing the thrill of goal chasing Dusting off the stress Finding fulfillment through perspective
Why do we choose to feel stressed instead of blessed? Feeling stressed takes so much out of us, whereas feeling blessed revives us and gives us so much to live for!! I'm here to not only help you, but to help ME.....(greatly) to re-wire our mind as we change our words from "I Have to" to " I Get To" I GET TO go to work (instead of saying I have to) I GET TO stay at home ( instead of saying I have to) You get the point. Lets stop the complaining and see how we can change our way of thinking from feeling stressed to feeling blessed.

On this episode of Live Well, Be Well, I’ll be discussing a simple yet effective shift in the way we frame our daily tasks and responsibilities from "I HAVE to do..." to "I GET TO!" This subtle change in the way we speak to ourselves can make all the difference for our mental and emotional well-being.For full transcript, follow this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xf8ns1gEHxRBiysXvcI4SBNGyokzP-WsWu1ucyYApCU/edit?usp=sharing See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
I want my mentality to be "I Get To", not "I Have To". Happiness and joy is not found in ourselves. King David was living in a cave hiding to save his life. People flocked around him, made sacrifices for him. David had a “I Get To”, I get to offer these people what they could only get by grace. HE LOVED THEM! I get to serve Jesus, you get to serve Jesus.
With today’s devotional we’re taking it back to one of the foundational teachings of BIG Life, where it all began. We’re going old school today. This is “I Get To”, the retro devo. For those who have been around for several years, the teaching of “I Get To” is like your favorite 80’s song, you […]
Not sure where I first heard this, but when I did, it created a MASSIVE MINDSET SHIFT in how I started to think and put certain things into perspective. It's a simple concept really… Instead of always saying, "I have to" do this or I "have to" do that, start saying, "I GET TO." Let me share a story with you about this. I caught myself in the "I HAVE TO" mindset just a few days back. As the world begins to "reopen" during this Pandemic, I was laying out the plans for what that's going to look like in my gym. There's a LOT of changes that'll need to be made as I start to bring athletes back in. The experience is going to be different. There are new rules to follow, and it's going to take a lot of work. So, as I started to look into the things that'll need to be done, I found myself getting frustrated, stressed, and a bit overwhelmed. I need more cleaning supplies, most of everything's sold out… We won't be able to use certain pieces of equipment because of the "social distancing" requirement… There's a limitation on how many people can attend sessions… So as I started to dig into all of the changes, I found myself saying, "I have to" which quickly put me into a negative mindset. Luckily, I caught myself and changed things up. I said I don't have to do any of this... I GET TO. And that's where it all changed... =============== PS - I've now got just a handful of more spots left for the next group of men coming into the Forged FATHER Project on Monday, May 11th. Today's buzz word. Grattitude. After recently going back to work for the summer, I'm already starting to feel that feeling setting in of "having to" get up and go to work every day. Having to stay there for nine hours out of my day, come home, and then get ready to do the same thing all over again tomorrow. Here's the thing though. I found an easier way to get through some of these days. While work is still dull and dreadful a lot of the time... I've brought myself to the realization that I GET TO be there. I GET TO go to work every morning. I GET TO spend my day helping customers and my coworkers. I GET TO receive a paycheck every two weeks. With the simple little shift of changing my HAVE TOs to GET TOs.... it is a lot easier to make it through the day, because it is easier to make it through, if you can remember why you're actually there. Odds are, everything you do is for the benefit of yourself and/or the people around you. Nothing is necessarily stopping you from quitting your job, or dropping out of school. Except you. You are stopping you because deep down, you know why you're there. You know the plan. Keep that plan in mind, and you'll start finding it a little bit easier to make it through your daily life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Justin Phillips: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_moctBGU-tfwSANYXl9OCg Instagram: https://instagram.com/jrpbusiness Facebook: https://facebook.com/jrpbusiness Twitter: https://twitter.com/jjustinrp Website: https://justinrp.net/

Doug Briney embodies all things country: His personality is warm and inviting, some would say down-to-earth, recalling the disposition of many a Southern Gentleman from yesteryear. With a 2013 Independent Country Music Association Award, eight months on the Roots Music Report charts, international airplay and live performances at CMA Fest, Rodeo Alaska, The Iditarod, The Grinder's Switch Hour, Alaska State Fair, and Dan McGuiness' on Music Row, among countless others, this God-fearing road warrior, with the warm baritone voice and love for all things southern, has released his aptly titled Super Country Cowboy. On this album, Doug has created a tasteful blend of yesterday's traditional country roots and today's radio-friendly contemporary sounds, to invoke all the best that is American: Love of God, Family and the US of A.With the release of his debut album, It's All Country, in early 2012, (and its re-release on CBM Records in 2013) Doug Briney showcased his signature sound, which he cultivated from years of touring camps, churches and conferences across the US. “We even played in an airport once, to impress a pretty girl for one of the band members,” he says with a laugh. Blending traditional influences from country music's past, like the Gatlin Brothers and Kenny Rogers, with modern contemporaries like Toby Keith and Trace Adkins, Doug created an original, honest and authentic sound all his own. The collection of well-known country hits and new covers peaked at #6 on the Roots Music Report True Country chart, where it remained for 8 straight months. The album also charted at #11 on the itunes Country New Release chart, with 3 singles receiving international airplay and chart action, leading to more than 300,000 Youtube views between them.In February 2013, Doug signed with Tate Music Group, home to country legends like Lee Greenwood and Neal McCoy. In November 2013, Tate released Super Country Cowboy, a brilliant and heartfelt collection of compositions from some of today's best country songwriters. From the Charlie Daniels-meets-Big & Rich-influenced title cut (Top 10 RMR,) to the inspiring, “I Get To” and the patriotic anthem, “Unknown Soldier,” Doug delivers nine emotion-filled, hook-laden tracks that are purely Doug Briney: heart-felt, passionate and proud. The album reached #58 on the itunes Inspirational chart and #8 on the Roots Music Report True Country chart, earning Doug a Nashville Universe Award nomination for Best Male Artist, a 2014 ICoMA Award nomination, and a 2014 Artists In Music Awards nomination.A 2013 move to Nashville, Tennessee has brought Doug to the epicenter of the country music industry. Grateful for being able to live his dream of performing and recording music, he has gladly given back to his community in a big way. Surrounded by a history of veterans and military service in his family, (his son currently serves in the Air Force) Doug has begun working with Bright Star International, who will help facilitate Doug's work with veterans' charities, and Heart Songs For Veterans. He is also donating 100% of his proceeds from the sale of the single, “Unknown Soldier” to Operation Troop Aid.An ordained pastor, Doug also served at the Cowboy Church of Anchorage, Alaska, prior to his family's relocation to Music City, USA. He is currently serving as a pastor with North Pointe Community Church in Old Hickory, TN. In fact, it's his unwavering faith and love of country music that has led Doug on his journey.“I have come to know and love the Cowboy Lifestyle through country music…And, it is who I am now, who I have been, and who I will always be.” --Doug Briney
