Intro Background (1:45) Background (1:45) 5 created by Gerard Way & Gabriel Ba in The Umbrella Academy: The Apocalypse Suite #1 (Date) The Umbrella Academy is about a team of superpowered children All around the world, children are born to women who previously showed no signs of pregnancy - the children are all adopted by Dr. Reginald Hargreeves, a wealthy philanthropist (and secretly an alien), to create a team - 7 of the children ultimately survive, all identified by numbers instead of names 5 is able to travel through time, but only forwards - he arrives in a post-apocalyptic world, and spends 45 years figuring out how to return When he does, he is reverted to his 10 year old body, and is then incapable of aging or growing He arrives shortly after Dr. Hargreeves' death, and reveals to the estranged team that the world ends 3 days after the death - he has to reunite the team, who had been apart for 9 years Works with #1, aka Spaceboy, to help lead the team - they end up fighting #7, who turns out to be the most powerful member of the team after she is experimented on by evil musicians - #5 shoots her in the head, leaving her paralyzed but alive In the second volume, it's revealed that #5 was experimented on in the future, and had DNA from history's greatest killers grafted into his body, making him the perfect assassin He was designed to prevent aberrations in the timestream, and then was sent back to help kill JFK - the “old” one has to kill all other assassins attempting to kill Kennedy so the “young” one can do the job - JFK ultimately ends up killed by #3, aka Rumor - also revealed that #5 and #1 are twin brothers Vol. 3 - Hotel Oblivion - neither of us have read it :( Issues (6:04) Detached from humanity because of spending 50 years alone An adult in a child's body - dysmorphia (12:50) Unhealthy coping mechanisms (18:12) Break (24:08) Plugs for BetterHelp, Legends: A Superhero Story, and Erica Schultz Treatment (26:07) In-universe - Lean into the temporal paradox of his life Out of universe - (33:30) Skit (42:18) Hello 5, I'm Dr. Issues. - Good afternoon Doctor. I must confess that in all my years of experience and all my patients, I've never dealt with one quite as young as you. - I wouldn't consider this a deviation from the norm. Despite my appearance, I'm actually 60 years old. Really? - The curse of my abilities. I traveled ahead in time, spent 50 years figuring out how to get back, and when I returned discovered my body had returned to the state it was when I first jumped. Not only that, I cannot age. So I'm stuck in this prepubescent body permanently. Oh my. - As you can imagine, it hasn't exactly been the best time for me. I see. So, uh, 5… do you have another name I can use? - Yes, but unfortunately it's long been forgotten. It doesn't matter. There's no one worthwhile who would use it anyway. Well I would like to think - And that's where you're wrong. It's ultimately futile, Doctor, because all of this discussion is an attempt to think the unthinkable, undo what can't be undone, unless I've already thought and done it. You're literally talking in circles. -Living in circles, yes. Must you correct every phrase? -No, but when I don't, there's nobody else around to do it for me, so it might as well be me. What is it that you want, really? You talk as if you already have all of the answers. -Not all of them, just more than most. Maybe I want a little more. That's a common problem. Hedonistic adaptation. -Hard to be hedonistic when everyone sees your appearance as a cherub. I wouldn't go that far. -I would. I HAVE. I use...this...and I have to drown my past in booze sometimes because nobody believes a little boy has done what I've done. Well...what have you done? -Kill. Oh, I'm sorry. -A lot. ...um, still sorry? -...Not sure you should be. Some deserved it. Hopefully all. But I'm realistic. Played the odds. And how do you feel about the innocents you've killed? - It is what it is. Collateral damage, so to speak. That's an awfully callous way to describe murder. - I wouldn't know. The people that asked me to kill for them didn't see a problem with it. I actually thought I talked it out pretty good with myself when I had some alone time. When was that? -Twenty years into the future before I knew I had to get back to the past. I...uh...that actually...it's… -No need to stammer. I'll move on NO! I apologize, I'm willing to admit when I need clarification on something. I get the gist of your time travel, but what did you see that made you want to go back? Clearly it wasn't good. -That's where the “talking to myself” part comes in. I was young, so I don't really know if I understood, other than it was bad. Then I got to think about it later, and I realized it was the worst possible outcome for everyone involved. I screwed up trying to get back so many times. Any problems now are like a fart in the wind. So you saw a bad future, and come back to a young age, despite being older, and do a lot of killing along the way...you must have some impressive coping mechanisms to even be able to talk about this so candidly. -I'm not going to argue with you about that. But everybody has their own style, you know? The ones I hang around with, we're considered freaks of nature. Far be it for me to put a damper on your… extracurricular activities, but surely you can appreciate value in SOMEthing other than that. - I have a cute little puppy. Wonderful! I'd love to hear all abou -he's the greatest thing he has such a cute droopy thing he does with his ear he likes to get his head scratched all the time he would chase a ball for hours and sometimes I fake throwing it or a replace it with a grenade so he can learn to sniff gunpowder and then I give his old ball back and I think I feed him too much but he whimpers when I miss food time his name is Mr. Pennycrumb…*breathes heavily* Whoa. In such a brief period of time you showed more emotional range than with any other serious topic you've discussed so far. Would you like more of that? -Yes please. ***awkward pause***You don't have to say please. Um...well then, I guess our goal is to help broaden your emotional spectrum while reconnecting to...living...things. -Close enough. So shall I expect you in a future session? - Were I a man who considered such things, I'd appreciate that play on words. As it stands I simply acknowledge it and say that we will see each other again. The title of this podcast might be confusing. If you've followed this podcast for a while, you know I talk a lot about treating employees with respect. You might be thinking, how is stressing out your people respectful? Well – it's all about growth. You've probably heard the phrase “If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.” This episode talks about the importance of challenging employees. It's about putting them in circumstances beyond their current capabilities to give them a chance to learn and grow. Too many companies give their hard jobs to senior employees and they never let the new employees get the opportunities to learn. Great leaders provide those opportunities. Leadership expert, Robin Sharma describes what it is like when new employees are challenged “As you move outside of your comfort zone, what was once the unknown and frightening becomes your new normal.” The only way to get to higher levels of performance is to be stressed and stretched. In today's episode, I'm going to tell you a story from my days as a junior officer on board the nuclear submarine USS Tennessee and how my captain was an expert at “pressure testing” his new employees. If you want to learn more about how submarine captains “pressure-test” their crews, pick up a copy of my latest leadership book. My pastor likes to say that the Bible wasn't written to us, it was written for us. The author of Hebrews writes to remind persecuted believers to think back on the days when they first learned about Christ and how they remained faithful—even though their profession of faith led to terrible suffering. These believers had lost many things because of their faith in Jesus, but they knew they had something better that no one could take away from them. The verses I'll read today weren't written to us, they were written to a suffering and persecuted church. But I believe the author of Hebrews has a message for us when circumstances rattle our faith and make us question God. A few years ago, I wrote a blog post about Hebrews 10:36 and 38. In a nutshell, I blogged about a season when I was really struggling to keep the faith. I had opened my Bible memory verse app to look for “Faith Building” verses, and as I scrolled through the list, I thought I saw Hebrews 10:36. I had already memorized that verse, and I knew it said, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Recalling that verse made me mad, and I told God, “I HAVE persevered. I HAVE done your will. So, where's my promise? I haven't received it. I can't believe this is supposed to build my faith.” Then I looked again and realized the listed verse was Hebrews 10:38 (not 36). I didn't know that verse by heart, and so I looked it up. It began with the word “but.” When a verse interrupts your negative thoughts with “but…” you know God's Word is alive. Tears stung my eyes as I read, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” I'd never willfully do something God would take no pleasure in. No matter how my faith is tested, I can't stop trusting God. I won't stop trusting God. I do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed. I choose to persevere no matter what. With the overwhelming majority of business leaders telling you to niche down, multi-passionate creative and entrepreneur D'Ana Joi Spencer offers an alternative view, where you can be creatively curious and see so much more possibility for yourself and your business.Introduction (5:16)Advice for people seeing being multi-passionate as a negative (11:40)It starts with self-acceptance: your talents are a gift, not a burden. Don't repress your passions. Your audience is perfectly capable of keeping up with you doing more than one thing, provided you present them with confidence. What if you are feeling pressure to niche down? (14:53)Relax into knowing that at some point you will organically arrive at your niche, but you don't have to make one choice right from the beginning. How to manage time as a multi-passionate (21:09)I use Asana for day-to-day tasks. Having that structure actually gives me more freedom. I also operate under a 90-day season of focus, and audit the results at the end.How to use social media as a tool and not a distraction (26:15)We each need to take ownership over how much media we are consuming. There is a fine line between creating and consuming content. I schedule content out in advance, and then just delete the app. It forces me to think of other ways to connect. How to nurture your artistry without being overwhelmed (32:45)First thing I do is to unplug. Then I journal my 3 small victories at the end of every day. I focus on what I HAVE accomplished, in stead of what stayed undone. It helps with the overwhelm. Lastly, try a braindump organized by project, and then organize the project after that. How to deal with imposter syndrome (38:36)As a multi-passionate I often find myself thinking “How dare I try this.” To fight this, I evaluate the validity of my feelings and gather proof of the opposite – look at your testimonials, your compliments, etc. Ultimately, imposter syndrome will never leave you – so just wear it like a backpack and carry it up the mountain. How to get out of a creative rut (43:55)Sometimes instead of scheduling more things you feel you should be doing, you really just need to rest. Also change things up: rearrange your schedule, redecorate, switch up your energy, get moving physically. What do you wish you knew when you started out (52:07)I wish I was more confident with sales, and felt safe receiving money. I felt I had to just give everything away, especially as a woman of colour.Discover more about D'Ana Joi SpencerWebsite: https://joi-knows-how.com/Facebook: Joi.Knows.HowInstagram: @joi.knows.howBio: D'Ana Joi, who goes by her middle name “Joi,” is a multi-passionate, educator, community builder, and content creator. Today, we're going to talk about breaking down walls between groups of employees. If you've worked in any large company you know there is typically an “us and them” attitude between groups of employees. Whether it's management and employees, or white-collar and blue-collar, or marketing and engineering, there is often animosity between departments. And it can be severe at times. I ran into this problem at the first manufacturing plant I led and I eventually figured out a way to eliminate this attitude. This is an easy technique that any leader can use to build unity in their organization. I hope you enjoy! When someone sees our potential it can make all the difference in what we become. But what has that looked like in the life of former NBA player Thurl Bailey? It meant his mother believing that she was not raising average kids, and therefore Cs were not acceptable. It meant not making the middle school basketball team again and again until a coach finally offered to put in some extra work with the 6'10" 9th grader. And it meant overcoming obstacles in marrying his wife when the odds were against them. But perhaps most important, it has looked like Heavenly Father knowing Thurl's potential as a disciple of Jesus Christ. On this week's episode, we talk with Thurl about potential in all its forms and what we can learn from it. “God also has a way of making things really right.” Show Notes 2:33- Taking Full Advantage of Education 6:45- “I Have a Dream” 8:30- Religion as a Child 12:06- Dr. J 22:15- Influence of a Coach Who Cared 25:47- Cultural Implications of Coming to Utah 30:24- Conquering the Odds 38:34- Asking the Right Person 45:17- 25 Years Later 48:43- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Dean & Los are back in the bag. They give season 1 vibes with breakdowns with the Texas State Senate dropping the teaching requirement that the KKK was morally wrong, in addition to no longer requiring the teaching of the I Have a Dream Speech, the writings of Susan B. Anthony, and the Women Suffrage movement. Dean & Los also break down the brazen white Alabama councilman who called a black woman the N-word, comfortably. The fellas then get into a real discussion about the black philosophy and why the black community continues to be stuck in the same position. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In a new political low in Texas, the Republican-dominated state Senate has passed a bill to eliminate a requirement that public schools teach that the Ku Klux Klan and its white supremacist campaign of terror are “morally wrong.” The cut is among some two dozen curriculum requirements dropped in the measure, along with studying Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech, the works of United Farm Workers leader Cesar Chavez, Susan B. Welcome to July's Q&A episode! Today I dive right in with some excellent questions about whether to allow “sexy” dolls like L.O.L Surprise Dolls in imaginary play, being aware of which franchises and marketing campaigns your children are exposed to, and how to encourage your child to play independently. I break down the relatively recent phenomenon of children expecting their parents to play with them and keep them entertained all day, and what you can do about it, even if you have an only child. Boredom is the basis for creativity, and it's okay to establish boundaries for time together versus adult time for you. I share the two simple, but powerful words you can use to stop a rude or sassy attitude in its tracks, and what to do if your child is “acting out” in physical ways but not necessarily melting down. Finally, as we slowly return to our busy lives after the pandemic, remember that work, relationships, and parenting demands can drain our energy resources quickly. I offer my perspective on why it's so important to rest, slow down, and pay attention to what activities feel restorative to you and your soul (reading, limiting social media, going for a walk in the woods) in this sometimes draining season of life. Thank you for your listening, and I appreciate your patronage more than I can say. For more information on my potty training and parenting resources, please visit the links below. The Finer Details of This Episode: Reminder to do strength training as it helps your body to heal itself Question about L.O.L Dolls, and whether to allow “sexy dolls” in imaginary play Make a conscious choice about which franchises and marketing campaigns your children are exposed to Watch your child's play for any signs of inappropriate behavior, and keep in mind that most of the time, these types of toys or images are not sexualized for the child When you absolutely do not allow a certain toy or word, it may just make it all the more desirable Monitor shows and movies that your kids are watching as well to be sure content and attitudes are in line with your values Sitcom zingers and one-liner jokes may seem innocuous, but they can be hurtful or create huge attitudes in real life What to do when it seems like your child can never get enough attention or one-on-one connection Don't let yourself drown or become resentful You need to hold a strong boundary because if you keep moving it, your kid will push even harder for that payoff in the end Kids are normally meant to play with other kids, and it isn't our job to make sure they are entertained and occupied all day It's okay to let you child be bored Make it very clear that there will be time when you play together, and time when they can do things by themselves Having “Reading Time” together is also a great way to not only encourage reading, but also for them to learn how to be with you without expecting to be entertained the entire time Boredom is the basis for creativity When your child is being rude or sassy, you do not need to point it out - simply ask them to try again When they are acting out, you don't want to give in or engage in negotiation - instead, acknowledge how they're feeling, give them the emotional vocabulary to explain why they're upset, but maintain that they still do the thing you asked them to do and thank them for it This helps teach emotional wisdom They may be acting out because they don't have the language to express how they feel, or they are afraid you may get mad at them if they do voice their feelings Work, relationships, and parenting can drain your energy resources quickly It's very important to rest, slow down, and pay attention to what activities feel restorative to you and your soul in this sometimes draining season of life Quotes “We have to all be really cautious about what we let into our house, knowing that there's marketing attached and franchising attached.” “I would watch the play… Is the play going into this weird sexy zone?” “If your child's in their room playing with their stuff, and it's cool, I wouldn't worry about it.” “It's really worth investigating what your kid is watching and making sure that the attitudes in the show are really great.” “If you think about a typical sitcom, they do a zinger. They do a one-liner, and then it cuts to a commercial or it cuts to the next scene. And you hear the canned laughter or maybe even a live studio audience. But you don't get to see how the zingers land.” “It's definitely worth watching stuff with your kids. Because what can seem really innocuous can create huge attitudes.” “It takes almost as much mental energy for me to coerce him to go play. So what that tells me is, if it takes you a lot of energy to get him to scram, it means you keep moving the boundary.” “If you move the boundary, then the kid's going to push even harder.” “This is the first time in history that adults have ever played with their kids or entertained their kids.” “What I would do, especially for the summer, I would definitely set a time and say, It's noon. This is the time that you spend by yourself. And I spend by myself,. You can go do anything you'd like in your room or outside. And I will set the timer and at one o'clock we can meet up again. And we can play a game together.” “Simply say, [Try] again. Generally speaking, when your kid is being rude or sassy, they are well aware that they are being rude and sassy. So you do not need to tell them they're being rude and sassy.” “You don't need to bring home like, You're being rude. They know they're being rude! They're trying to be rude. In fact, they're doing it to see if they can get away with it. So when you say, Try again, they know exactly what you mean.” “You can totally say, I see you stomping. I know you're upset with me. It's okay to be upset with me. And I'm really happy that you're doing the thing anyway.” “One of the things you really want to do is recognize when your child is acting out their emotions, because they may not have the words or they may not have the capability to tell you the words, or they are afraid you might get mad.” “We don't want them to be scared of us, we want them to use their words at all times.” “Start paying attention to where you feel fulfilled, where you feel rested. Even though you might be full of action, it still might be restorative to your nervous system, to your soul.” “It's not even about rest like that - you have to slow down everything - even though I highly recommend that. It's about figuring out your energy sources and where to put your best work.” “It's not just rest in the typical, Stop moving your body. But think of what's restorative to you.” “If we are constantly going, going, going, and if we are constantly providing stimulation for our kids and activities for our kids, they'll never know how to be bored.” Links: Jamie's Homepage - http://www.jamieglowacki.com/ Oh Crap! Communication and interacting with each other through words is really at the heart of what it means to connect and relate to other people. This is even more clear as actors and writers in the way that we tell stories and share experiences. Clear and understandable communication is a vital part of the performing arts. We do this through dance, visual media, physical gestures, and other ways, but most importantly though language. For Damian Thompson, this of course has been an essential part of his career, from Shakespeare productions like MacBeth and King Lear, to contemporary plays like Angels in America and Little Rock. He even wrote and starred in his own short film called Black? But it hasn't always been easy for him to communicate verbally , especially in auditions and cold readings. As a young child he suffered from a speech disorder that affects approximately 3 million Americans speakers, and that is stuttering. Sign up for the monthly WINMI Newsletter. And so in today's conversation we talk about things that Damian has had to overcome. We even get into the importance of not only diverse but accurate representation within the arts. But we start of with Damian sharing how his stuttering and Martin Luther King‘s “I Have a Dream" speech eventually led him into theater…with a little help for Dawson's Creek. Today we are going to talking about a leadership gift. No, it's not a cheap trinket with your company logo on it. It's a gift that leaders can give their people to help them become a better version of themselves. It's the Gift of a Challenge. For those that have read my first book, you might recognize the concept of leadership gifts. I have a whole chapter on the intangible gifts that leaders give. I mentioned a few in the book like the gift of trust, appreciation, faith, support, encouragement, and recognition. But, today we're going to talk about one gift that has had a profound impact on my life and it's a bit counter-intuitive. You might even be thinking, how is the Gift of a Challenge a good thing? A nation's foundation is its story. The story is the nation. The story is a source of pride and inspiration. A revolution has taken place to replace the heritage of the USA as a nation built on protecting freedom of conscience to a nation built on greed and exploiting people. From the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock to the Declaration of Independence to the Statue of Liberty to Martin Luther King's, “I Have a Dream” speech, the USA has proclaimed the liberty of a free and clear conscience. The USA government protected Jesus' fundamental message in John 8:34-36 – “if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

While Shakespeare and Donne would inevitably have had in mind the political and religious upheavals of the age, it is surely something far greater than that, a different sort of power game, that they have intuited. They lament the loss of the relation of part to whole, of individual to community, of the context, the cosmos, to which each single soul belongs – each now standing alone. There is a loss of harmony (‘each thing meets in mere oppugnancy', in Ulysses' phrase), the whole has become a heap of bits and pieces (‘crumbled out again to its atoms'). And, as Ulysses reminds us, this can have only one ending: Then every thing include itself in power,Power into will, will into appetite,And appetite, an universal wolf(So doubly seconded with will and power),Must make perforce an universal prey,And last eat up himself. Iain McGilchrist in his book on the brain, The Master and HIs Emissary As we traverse this life in the context of the Information Age, we have an inherent tendency to reduce what we experience into facts and figures that can be analyzed. This quality of attention is second nature. To reduce everything into its smallest component parts seems normal to us. After all, our end goal is to understand. And our understanding of understanding is that gathering more and more information is the best method of pursuit. And yet, if we are honest with ourselves, our end goal is deeper than mere understanding. Our end goal is to understand in order to take advantage. Information is currency, and with it we may purchase that which benefits us. And yet, as McGilchrist and Shakespeare and Ulysses and the core of our own souls would observe, such a pursuit cannot help but see everything and everyone as utilitarian. Nature becomes a heap of resources to exploit. People become a grid of traits and resources with which to judge as useful, irrelevant, or in need of cancellation. This reductionist mindset, this reduced quality of attention, has infiltrated not just society at large, but, in a bit of irony, all of its component parts - including the church. The Church, as we will see in today's episode, is called to a much higher quality of attention. One that sees Nature as the glory of God and people as his image-bearers, even the least of all people as Jesus himself. Today we will review the last six episodes of Awestruck and how each of their individual themes collectively make the whole message we marvel at today more than just the sum of its parts. The time has come for the Church - for all followers of Jesus - to lay down our weapons of mass reduction and return to living lives of wonder, reverence, and love for all. Inside of Black culture, some groups aren't always included when it comes to identity. As we celebrate both Pride Month and Juneteenth this month, we can combine the two to lift up communities that have been marginalized and celebrate activists that have fought for the freedom of Black people. This week, Dr. Venus shines a spotlight on 7 Black Queer Freedom Fighters and Black Queer advocates, from the literary genius of the 1920s to the brilliant strategy behind the scenes of the March on Washington, these heroes have fought and died for Black freedom, but are seldom cited or celebrated in our society. We were born in a historical time, but we won't be able to make our money, grow, and help others if we sacrifice our freedom and rights for a point of view. Let's talk about it. Key Takeaways: [2:28] Black people have a commitment to freedom, but we can't say we are fully about liberation if we are going to leave out or ignore a group of people. Freedom includes all of us, not just some. [4:25] We have to liberate ourselves from the conditioning of White Supremacy and be the change we want to see in the world vs. pointing the finger at someone else. You can love someone without agreeing with them. What matters the most is that we walk our walk and love each other rather than oppressing or ignoring someone who seems different or whose lifestyle we may not understand. [7:03] We also can't blame ourselves fully for marginalizing our brothers and sisters. It's not a bad thing or something that makes us bad people. It's just White oppression being acted out in Black environments. When we can't allow people to be who they are, we lose in every way from opportunities to money. [9:39] If we can have empathy and grace for players in the Bible, we can have it for the people in our families and the human beings around us. Human beings are imperfect and people do the best they can with what they've got. [10:29] Judging others is not necessarily the problem. It's a problem when you make it a problem for the person you are judging. If you are committed to winning, you have to be emotionally mature enough to know that we need help as we grow and succeed, and that means allowing in people who don't perform and act like you. [11:46] If someone has something that can make your life better and is willing to help, it's a form of self-sabotage to turn it down, especially when it comes to money and social change. You end up handicapping the people that depend on you. Dr. Venus knows that even means accepting the help of White allies who are there to support her along with her own mission of birthing 100 Black Women Billionaires and launching a new tech brand. [14:11] If we are talking about Black Pride, we must be proud not just of our progress, but of our ability to make room for us to be individuals. When you make room for people to be themselves, you provide the ability for true change, growth, and unified power. In Dr. Venus's community, we are not doing hate. Not Black hate, Asian hate, etc. [17:01] We can celebrate both Pride and Juneteenth this month. Juneteenth is Black people's version of Independence Day, when slavery ended for real and when we celebrated because it marked our emancipation. [18:50] Dr. Venus lists 7 Freedom Fighters and LGBTQ Advocates that may not be recognized regularly: Audre Lorde - Died in 1992 and fought for Civil Rights and the Women's Movement. Check out Zami. James Baldwin - Essayist, writer, and activist. At Dr. King's side during the “I Have a Dream” speech. Check out I Am Not Your Negro. Marsha P. Johnson - Pillar of the LGBTQ community in New York City. Trans Woman who fought for queer rights while struggling with mental illness and homelessness. Check out Pose. Bernard Rustin - Leader in Civil Rights, Strategic advisor for Dr. King and helped 1963 March of Washington, Queer rights pioneer. Barbara Smith - Author, Considered Mother of Black Feminism. Andrea Jenkins - First Openly Trans Black Woman elected to political office. [23:08] Identity is not sexuality, yet people conflate the two. Each culture has a language, and Trans and Queer cultures each have their own language code and lexicon. [24:21] If you are committed to making money, you are going to have to get interested in understanding how other people see themselves. Marketing has everything to do with relational dynamics, and you have to know who you are talking to, and how they see themselves. [27:20] Trans rights are human rights, yet Trans Women are murdered by Black Men more than any other group, in much the same way a Black Man would get lynched for being accused of raping a White woman. It's important to know that this is still an aggression and attack on Black Women's bodies. [28:27] Your truth is a truth but not the truth. We have space to have dignified conversations if we truly want to move forward and create a new infrastructure that we can succeed in. [31:48] Dr. Venus shares her love for Black Women. The tears, the pride, the hurt, the love, the perseverance, all of it. Don't take the hate of others on in your energy, and don't feel the need to argue your truth with haters. Be proud of yourself, they have no idea what it takes for you to be well and show up in the world. Quotes: “I have a commitment to inclusion and diversity, and I mean that in every possible way.” “If you are infighting, you can't unite.” “Judging others is not necessarily the problem. It's a problem when you make it a problem for the person you are judging.” “When it comes to money and social change, you require other people who are different from you.” “If we are talking about Black Pride, we must be proud not just of our progress, but of our ability to make room for us to be individuals.” “A lot of times in the Black Community, we stop winning because we don't agree or approve.” Mentioned: Dr. Venus Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram “Hot Mess Millionaire” Amazon Pilot ”Hot Mess Millionaire” Complete Series (https://www.youtube.com/c/DrVenusOpalReese) Join the conversation!
