At four years old, Andrew Meari stood at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery and quietly told his mother: “Mommy, I'm going to be a soldier.” He never changed his mind. Years later, PFC Andrew Meari deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division, 1-502nd Infantry. On November 1, 2010, during combat operations in Kandahar, Andrew was killed in action while protecting his brothers during a motorcycle VBIED attack. He was 21 years old. In this powerful Memorial Week conversation, Gold Star Mother Denise Williams joins The MisFitNation to share the story behind the uniform… the little boy who loved history, the young man who dreamed of service, the soldier who stood forward, and the legacy that continues long after his final mission. But this episode goes deeper. It explores the reality of military sacrifice. The unimaginable moment a parent receives the call. The bond between soldiers. The strength of Gold Star families. And how purpose can still exist after devastating loss. Denise also shares:
Dean Karayanis steps behind the microphone for Derek Hunter on Memorial Day 2026. Reflecting on a successful stint hosting on WMAL, Dean balances a deep reverence for America's fallen heroes with a sharp, unfiltered look at the nation's current political and cultural landscape. A New York Sun columnist and former Rush Limbaugh staffer, Dean delves into a recent New York Times report regarding sexual harassment on Capitol Hill, dismissing the specific reporting as an "open secret" and a "system protecting itself" while demanding actual accountability and the release of protected names from lawmakers. The monologue shifts to look at media double standards, the weaponization of the term "election deniers," and a critical review of climate journalism after scientists officially retired their most extreme, long-term global warming scenario. Bringing the episode back to the core meaning of Memorial Day, Dean plays a clip from his History Author Show interview with Jeff Gottesfeld on his beautifully illustrated children's book, “21 Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.” The book explores the history, exactitude, and absolute dedication of the Tomb's Honor Guard that stands watch in silence, honoring those who sacrificed everything — including their names — for American liberty. Dean closes the show with a heartfelt thank you to Gold Star families and a call to protect the American experiment from ongoing domestic division.
President Donald Trump on Monday said negotiations with the Iranian regime are "proceeding nicely." He said there will only be either a great deal for all, or a return to "Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before." Americans pay tribute to the roughly 1.3 million military service members who fought and died for the United States. Trump participates in a Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Pope Leo XIV calls for stronger regulation of artificial intelligence in his first major teaching document. He warns that the rapidly advancing technology risks spreading misinformation, fueling conflict, and normalizing war.
For Memorial Day. (from 2018) Patrick O'Donnell, author of "The Unknowns: The Untold Story of America's Unknown Soldier and World War One's Most Decorated Heroes Who Brought Him Home."
D.C. trip included Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Day will hold added meaning for 82 members of the Haldane High School junior class following a four-day trip to Washington, D.C. The first three days of the March trip included visits to the U.S. Capitol, the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, the September 11 Memorial and Museum, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Smithsonian Institute. On the final day, the group traveled to Arlington National Cemetery. It is there that Rhys Williams and a few classmates visited the grave of his grandfather, Preston Williams. Preston Williams' military service included two Army tours during the Vietnam War. In May 1967, as commander of Company C, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, and just short of his 25th birthday, Williams was in combat for nine straight days. During a two-hour firefight, he moved from position to position, directing supportive fire — gallantry that earned him a Silver Star. He was also awarded a Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars and other commendations during his service. Williams died in June 2024 and was buried at Arlington with military honors. Rhys said he remembers his grandfather's funeral vividly, including the 21-gun salute. "I realized the impact he had on others, how he meant a lot to so many people beyond our family," Rhys said. On March 27, he revisited the burial site. "I wanted to see it again," Rhys said. "I felt very proud of my grandfather; you can see all his awards on the gravestone." The trip to Arlington concluded for the juniors with Cooper Corless and Christine Junjulas, accompanied by Jaiden Gunther and Elaina Johanson, placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on behalf of Haldane High School. "Having the opportunity to actually lay the wreath was so powerful; I was really moved," said Corless. Junjulas echoed that sentiment: "It was a really cool way to have our school honor the people who have done so much for our country." Both have family members who served in the military. Teachers Kristen Peparo and Marilyn Granese, co-advisors for the class, planned the Washington trip. "I think the students felt a reverence for our country, its leaders, our history and the sacrifice many made to fight for our democracy," Peparo said. She said that, while visiting Arlington, the Haldane group passed by a military funeral. "Our students were so respectful and considerate of the grieving family," she said. "It was wonderful to see them pay such deep respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice."
In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Monday in May, echoing the words and sentiments of the proclamation of General John A. Logan of the grand Army of the Republic in 1868 who stated: “MEMORIAL DAY IS DESIGNATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF STREWING WITH FLOWERS OR OTHERWISE DECORATING THE GRAVES OF COMRADES WHO DIED IN DEFENSE OF THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE LATE REBELLION (THE CIVIL WAR) AND WHOSE BODIES NOW LIE IN ALMOST EVERY CITY, VILLAGE AND HAMLET, CHURCH YARD IN THE LAND.” So it is that the primary purpose of Memorial Day is to strew with flowers, literally and figuratively, the graves and memories of America's daring defenders. They, the fallen, died for freedom, liberty, for America, for us, for YOU AND ME. We were asked to remember those who died in the great American Civil War, but the day to remember now incorporates all who have given lives in defense of our country. Far too many wars, my fellow Americans, and far too many fallen defenders by the millions who believed in America, and in its fundamental principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all mankind. How grateful we should be. We are descendants or contemporaries of patriots, men and women who cherish freedom and were willing to fight and die to defend it if necessary. These warriors lived by the words of Patrick Henry who said: GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH. Our nation was formed in the fight for freedom, for there was no life worthwhile without it. There came our great Constitution and our incredible BILL OF RIGHTS, the rights and freedom amendments which are the finest in the history of mankind. No matter the origin, it seems as though, in so many ways, the passion for freedom may have been lost today as they once had it. We seem to take for granted what they died for. The courage they had seems lost today in so many ways, and the change in our country produces in so many ways an America in decline, at least politically, philosophically, and certainly passionately. Our ancestors fought for the Constitution, for the Bill of Rights and the freedoms those now 27 Amendments allow us. They were ready to die for them, but we, the current people, allow them to be watered down, interpreted away and often ignored without the fight or conviction to protect and defend them. Perhaps the freedoms of Patrick Henry are giving way to a slow but sure death. Perhaps we have failed to meet the challenge of Ben Franklin who told us the Republic they created for us was a marvelous way of government IF we could keep it. I wonder if we can. So, in the midst of barbeques and baseball, it is so healthy to look back and remember. Remember a George Washington, a general, a leader, a President, a warrior, a patriot. Or a Paul Revere who rode the land warning the enemy was coming, sounding the alarm. It seems as though we need more Paul Reveres, warning us that enemies to our Constitution and way of life are coming, and in fact are HERE. We The People should be ever mindful of the threats and sound the alarm as he did, like those who energized our country once before, THE BOSTON TEA PARTY PATRIOTS and the revolution their courageous acts energized and inspired. They took a stand against taxes and so must we. Ours continue to rise, and rise to the point of confiscation, but nothing destroys freedom like taxes. President John Adams reminded us the two killers of liberty are slavery and debt. The debt of confiscatory taxation strangles freedom, and that is happening at an incredibly rapid pace today. Shame on us. It is hard for us to think back and remember the early days in America when slavery was a way of life in America, to our great shame and embarrassment. We, the moderns, find that inconceivable, and the practice of slavery of any kind abhorrent, do we not? Right-thinking men and women fought and fell to rid America of the scourge of slavery, God bless them. And to rid the world of despots like Hitler, evil to the core, Mussolini, and those who, in war, would destroy the freedom and liberty of all. God bless them. There can hardly be a family anywhere in America which has not laid a son or daughter on the altar of freedom. So many fought and fell, lives given willingly for us in war after war. There were those who supported those who fought. We honor them. Many of our warriors and defenders came home hurt and damaged in body or mind, perhaps for a lifetime. On Memorial Day, we honor these veterans of wars, these HEROES, these wounded warriors who gave us our freedom: WE OWE THEM! A debt we can never repay. To honor them is the least we can do, to thank them as we remember and as we encounter those in our military who follow after them. We should help and support them. They lived and died for what they believed. Whenever I encounter a member of our military, I thank them for what they did and what they do for our great country, for me, and for you, and for my friends and loved ones, and all Americans whether I know them or not. But, I really do know them, for I know what is in their hearts and minds and I know they love America as much as I do. I will salute them as a sign of respect. I wish them to know I will always be grateful for everything they do for me and the America I love. Perhaps YOU should do the same, not on one Memorial Day, but on all days. They, the heroes and defenders, are the very best of us. God bless them. Memorial Day is always celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery, a very special place, a burial site for some of America's bravest. At 3:00 PM on that Monday, a very special ceremony occurs, and each grave is decorated with a small American flag. The highlight of the celebration is a speech in honor of these brave men and women from the President or Vice President of the United States honoring their contributions to America and laying a wreath at the tomb of The Unknown Soldier. That tomb represents tens of thousands of other unknown soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country, but in death never got the recognition and respect they so justly deserved. Do remember them, my fellow Americans, do remember them as well on Memorial Day, as there may be no one else, no loved one, no friend or family to do so. As you do remember these American heroes, thank our God, the God who blesses America for all those who gave so much for us. They allowed us to be parents, to have and enjoy family, they allowed us to be workers and fully participate in the great opportunities America offers. THEY allowed us to be all we can be, because our soldiers, they were determined to be all they could be. Have a special place in your heart all week for any loved one, family or friend of yours who should be MEMORIALIZED AND REMEMBERED this day and always. And, as we pay tribute and remember, let us become better citizens of this great country, ready more than ever to preserve, protect, and defend all it stands for, all of our blessed and precious freedoms which exist like there are nowhere else in the world. Let us stand for what is right with actions, protests, town meetings, marches, debate, fact and truth at work, counteracting government spin and disinformation. Let us stand tall for the right, for truth, for all things moral and valuable. Let us resolve, WE THE PEOPLE, we who own and control this country, to do our job as citizens far better, and remember to cherish and exercise the greatest privilege which every American has THE VOTE! There is no more powerful weapon than the vote of the American citizen. It is the most precious Constitutional right we have, and for which our forefathers fought and died. Let us make certain we vote for those to represent us, who so passionately believe in these very special freedoms as we do, and they, the fallen, did. It is only then, when we do our part, day in and day out, that we would have the right to say, with conviction and passion, as our forefathers did: GOD BLESS AMERICA! For that can not happen unless WE THE PEOPLE do what is right, remembering whom and what went before, and committing with conviction to follow in their footsteps. These men and women died for GOD AND COUNTRY and for you and me in the never-ending fight to protect and preserve: FREEDOM! Memorialize their memories on Memorial Day and every day! God bless America and God bless you.

King Charles' U.S. trip enters a more complex phase as the New York leg delivers a mix of diplomacy, distance, and spectacle. According to reporting in The Guardian, the King moved from the high of his Washington reception to a cooler political tone in New York, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani declined a private meeting, saying he would instead attend a public wreath-laying ceremony. Mamdani also raised the long-running debate over the Koh-i-Noor diamond, noting, “If I was to speak to the king separately from that, I would probably encourage him to return the Koh-i-Noor diamond.”Despite the tension, the King continued his engagements, visiting the National September 11 Memorial & Museum alongside Michael Bloomberg, where he honoured victims of the 2001 attacks with a wreath and a handwritten message of solidarity. The tone shifted again at the King's Trust Global Gala, with Vanity Fair describing a room filled with high-profile figures including Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, and Lionel Richie. The King praised the charity's mission, while Enninful reflected on its impact, saying, “I had cousins, friends in our neighborhood who were really told they couldn't amount to nothing. I watched the Kings Trust firsthand change their lives.”Elsewhere, the King visited Harlem Grown, where he was given a handwritten note by a student, responding, “That's fantastic,” before gifting honey from Highgrove House. He later attended a business reception at Rockefeller Center, bringing together senior industry figures.Queen Camilla's programme leaned into culture and literacy. At the New York Public Library, she delivered a symbolic gift marking 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh, reuniting a recreated Roo with the original characters. In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager, she described the visit as “wonderful,” adding, “It's been wonderful, and everybody's been very kind and welcoming.”Earlier, following their farewell with Donald Trump, the King and Queen travelled to Arlington National Cemetery, where they took part in a formal ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, echoing Queen Elizabeth the Second's visit in 1957.The trip closes with a contrast that has defined it: ceremonial warmth, political distance, and a monarchy still capable of commanding attention—even in New York.Get episodes of Palace Intrigue by becommming a paid subscriber on Apple Podcasts. The Doors- Waiting For The Sun (Elektra Records) Released -July 3, 1968 Waiting for the Sun (1968), the third album by The Doors, arrived at a moment when the band was already one of the most prominent rock groups in America. Recorded between late 1967 and early 1968 and released on Elektra Records, the album reflects both creative ambition and growing internal strain, particularly as Jim Morrison struggled with heavy drinking and the pressure to produce new material.Musically, the record shows the group's wide stylistic range. Songs like “Hello, I Love You” delivered commercial radio success, while tracks such as “The Unknown Soldier” and “Five to One” explored darker, more experimental and political themes. Robby Krieger's inventive guitar work, Ray Manzarek's distinctive organ textures, and John Densmore's jazz-influenced drumming help maintain the band's unmistakable sound. Despite mixed critical reactions at the time, the album became the band's only U.S. number-one LP and remains an important entry in their catalog. (S5-Ep14)
Pine Island, Minnesota is the kind of idyllic Midwestern farm town that most people picture when they think of anywhere in the middle of the country: friendly people, a strong sense of community, and civic pride. The town also had one other fixture that used to be common in every little town in the Midwest: an Odd Fellows lodge. Unfortunately, the lodge had fallen on hard times. Membership was low and the building was falling apart. Evan Goranson and David Friese stepped in about a year and a half ago and started turning things around. Sometimes that job was fun and easy, like getting people interested in sorting through old treasures in the building. Sometimes it was more of a challenge than they wanted, like dealing with a leaking toilet. Through it all, the lodge is prospering and starting to grow, having reconnected with its community. The progress is significant and shows that with the right combination of new members, guidance from the Grand Lodge, and a can-do attitude, a lodge can be revived and start to thrive. The Shoutout goes to a new lodge in Tennessee, Crockett Hall Lodge #59. In this episode's Odd Podge, Meredith previews a special parade inclusion for the upcoming Pilgrimage to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Ainslie shares another somber memorial service in Illinois, Evan expresses excitement for the first day over 70 degrees Farenheit for Minnesota and Wisconsin, David expresses gratitude both for the nine candidates poised to join his lodge and for being able to talk about it on the podcast, and Toby recounts his conversation with a Chief Patriarch about how to make his Encampment more interesting for its members.

//The Wire//2300Z February 13, 2026////ROUTINE////BLUF: PENTAGON REDEPLOYS FORD CSG TO MIDDLE EAST. ARSON ATTACK TARGETING ALLEGED POTENTIAL ICE FACILITY REPORTED IN KANSAS CITY. STABBING ATTACK STRIKES PARIS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-France: This evening a stabbing attack was reported in Paris, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Arc de Triomphe. One of the soldiers in the Honor Guard was wounded during the attack, as the assailant attempted to target the crowd participating in the daily flame lighting ceremony. Armed police shot the attacker several times, ending the attack.Analyst Comment: Local French sources claim that is not the first time that this individual has stabbed a police officer. The assailant has been identified as Brahim Bahrir, a 47 year old male who was at the center of a different terror attack, in which he stabbed two police officers in an identical manner back in 2012. He was released from prison for this attack some time ago, with today's terrorism attempt being the second major stabbing attack he has committed.Middle East: Following PM Netanyahu's departure last night, the White House announced the repositioning of the USS *GERALD FORD* CSG from the Caribbean to the Middle East.Analyst Comment: The *FORD* has already been deployed for about 8 months, so either she's getting an extension or she'll pull in to Norfolk for refit/resupply before heading to the Arabian Sea. Either way, it will take about two weeks for this repositioning to take place, at the absolute earliest.Caribbean: Yesterday a collision was reported between two US Navy vessels conducting resupply at sea. The USS *TRUXTON* (DDG 103) collided with the USNS *SUPPLY* (T-AOE-6) while attempting to carry out Underway Replenishment (UNREP) operations on Wednesday. Two sailors were injured as a result of the collision, both of which are in stable condition.-HomeFront-Missouri: An arson attack was captured on film yesterday afternoon, which involved a woman deliberately setting fire to a commercial structure that was reportedly on the books to be sold to the federal government for the creation of an ICE detention facility. The fire was put out by the fire department, and the assailant remains at large.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Regarding the Kansas City arson attack, a lot of unsubstantiated information is circulating. And as luck would have it, a news van happened to be set up on scene, with a camera pointed at the attack site, perfectly framed to capture the arson attack...before it began. This same news affiliate is the same source that claims that the attack was a success, and that the company is no longer planning to sell the warehouse to ICE, due to the acts of the terrorist. It is true that the federal government is trying to contract out empty warehouses around the US to serve as detention facilities, but it's not clear as to if this exact facility was/is included in these efforts. At present, it's just as likely that this abandoned warehouse was selected on a whim via unsubstantiated rumors, and probably circulated among the Kansas City Rapid Response chat groups. These far-left cells tend to take the tiniest bit of information and run with it, without any verification whatsoever. This case is a good example of how truth does not actually matter to far-left activist groups, and unsubstantiated rumors in a group chat can get somebody killed. From a risk-management perspective, when there is no criteria for selecting targets in warfare, no one is safe. This is what makes these groups so dangerous; deadly and horrific attacks can be conducted on random buildings (or random people), with no warning at all. And just like in Minneapolis, these groups know that they can't actually win an engagement against ICE, so they go after the soft-targets in a city, targe

Send us a textYou can't beat the trail running community for positivity, and during so many of my races I have randomly met the most interesting and often inspiring people, many of whom have become lifelong friends. During the descending miles of this year's Leadville Heavy Half, I started chatting with a fellow runner and before long discovering Scott Tish's inspiring story that included his experiences as an air ambulance helicopter pilot and as a five-time cancer survivor. Scott's battles led him to some dark places, but he emerged on the other side with a reinvigorated view on life and gratitude for the mere opportunity to go out and run every day, much less complete races as challenging as the Heavy Half. He attributes a lot of his rebound to his wife, Pam, who gave him the tough love needed to move forward with his life and find again how running is some of the best medicine anyone can take. Scott's journey in the Army also gave him the very rare privilege of being a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Combine that with being a survivor of very rare forms of cancer and being an ultrarunner, Scott's one-of-a-kind story will certainly inspire you.Scott TishFacebook @stish162linkedin.com/in/scott-tish-tus162TikTok @millieandtesspapatombguard.orgBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @we_are_superman_podcastYouTube We Are Superman PodcastSubscribe to the We Are Superman Newsletter!https://mailchi.mp/dab62cfc01f8/newsletter-signupSubscribe to our Substack for my archive of articles of coaching tips developed from my more than three decades of experience, wild and funny stories from my long coaching career, the wit and wisdom of David, and highlights of some of the best WASP episodes from the past that I feel are worthwhile giving another listen.Search either We Are Superman Podcast or @billstahl8

Dalton began this tribute edition of Crosstalk, with the following from historian William Federer from his series, "How We Got Here": "On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, WWI ended. Though the ceasefire, called armistice, was signed at 5am in the morning, it specified that 11 am would be the time the actual fighting would cease. Tragically, in the intervening 6 hours of fighting, an additional 11,000 more were killed. Following WWI (the war to end all wars), President Warren Harding, in 1921, had the remains of an unknown soldier killed in France brought to Arlington Cemetery to be buried in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Inscribed on the tomb are the words: 'Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.'" "In 1926, President Coolidge began issuing proclamations honoring veterans every year and in 1938, the day became a legal holiday. In 1954, the name Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day to honor all soldiers of all American wars. 4 million Americans served in WWI. 16 million served in WWII. Nearly 7 million served in the Korean War. Nearly 9 million served in the Vietnam War. From the first Gulf War till the present, 7.4 million men and women served in the military." Memorial Day honors those who died while serving, while Veterans Day honors living soldiers. This broadcast served to allow listeners to honor the latter for their efforts.
Today, while laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Trump referred to those who serve in the military as "a mighty wall of flesh & blood." TDS sufferers get their undies in serious bundles.

Arlington National Cemetery is one of the most well-known cemeteries in the world. It's just outside Washington, DC. 400,000 military veterans and their families are buried there. The most famous tomb of all is also there, the tomb of The Unknown Soldier. Nobody knows this soldier's identity. Do you sometime feel that nobody knows you either? We can feel overwhelmed by the challenges and struggles of life but God does care and He wants to help. Watch the program to learn more.

On September 11, twenty-four years ago, I saw the Twin Towers crumble to dust. And then, on September 11th this time around, I saw so many people grieving the shocking assassination of a hugely popular Gen Z influencer in front of 3,000 people. In both cases, millions of people were devastated in disbelief and grief. Including reporters, politicians, law enforcement people - and lots of ordinary folks. And certainly the 2001 tragedy had a scope much greater, but this assassination hit many young people very personally. I found myself praying, again, what I cried out to God 24 years ago. "God, what do You see here?" The answer has been the same both times. Souls. Lost souls. Grieving souls. Eternal souls. I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about "A Fatal Shot, A Wounded Generation." Working with young people my entire life, I've seen many of them become less engaged with their world and with current events. A lot of them know more about Taylor Swift's love life but can't find Ukraine on a map or tell you the name of the Vice President. But they were drawn to Charlie Kirk, and he was dedicated to involving them in the major issues of our time. A prime time CNN host said: "If you don't know who Charlie Kirk is, ask your teenager or your college student." He was, in a sense, a generational prophet to many of them. He had over five million followers on X (formerly Twitter) and hundreds of thousands of listeners to his podcast and radio program. A lot of people have said that this generation is disconnected. But listen, they connected with Charlie Kirk. To countless millions of young people, he was finally a voice they could trust. Suddenly, he was gone. For me, this isn't about Charlie Kirk's politics or his culture war perspectives. It is, of course, about his wife Erika and their two children. I'm so glad the Bible says, "the Lord is close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18). She has a relationship with Him. I pray Jesus will hold them close in His big arms. I do see what God showed me on that dark September 11 years ago. Those souls. The emotional outpouring that has flooded social media gives testimony to the deep sense of personal loss so many young people are feeling now. After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, there was a hole in our hearts that none of our usual "go to" answers could fill. So we turned to God. Churches were full. Prayer was everywhere. Many people opened their hearts to Jesus who died for them and beat death by His Resurrection. For many contemporary young people, this recent loss has left their own hole in their heart. That's where it's about "souls." This trauma will be, for many, a "turning point." Sadly for some, to anger, retribution, disillusionment, despair. All destinations devoid of hope. Or to Jesus, whose hope is stronger than death, guaranteed by an empty tomb. Which brings us to our word for today from the Word of God, which happens to be a verse that Charlie's wife posted hours before his death. Psalm 46:1 - "God is our refuge and strength. An ever present help in trouble." We are desperate for a generation that doesn't carry all our baggage. A spiritual awakening may well be our only real hope. And our young people may be our only real hope of a better tomorrow. I'm praying the death of a looked-to leader may lead them to the Leader whose life and hope are eternal. Jesus called us to tell our world about His unloseable love - and then to let them experience that love through us. That was his final order. I think about the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the guard coming on and the guard coming off exchange these words. The current guard says, "Orders remain unchanged." And the new guard says, "Orders acknowledged." We have our orders from our Master - to be His witnesses. No matter the loss, no matter the cost. Our orders remain unchanged.

Send us a textThis week I have a very special guest, my mentor and friend, Tim Butler. Tim served in the Marines in the gulf war and since then has worked as an engineer for many if not most of the major gun manufacturers in America. While he may argue this point, I believe he has influenced firearms more than any other individual in the past century, and more than likely, if you're an American hunter, you own a firearm that Tim worked on. Make sure to check out the portion of this episode where he describes making the pistols carried by the guards of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier— more detail and nostalgia have been put into these sacred firearms than any other in active military service. Give me chills.
Tom Miller: memorial sculptor and owner of Monuments by Miller. Join us for a conversation with a master craftsman whose work is etched into the very fabric of Mankato! Tom reflects on his path as a sculptor and storyteller—shaping stone and legacy alike. As one of the most visible artists in the region, he shares the stories behind some of Mankato's most iconic monuments, including the Winter Warrior at the Blue Earth County Library and the Buffalo at the intersection of Front and Main. Stay tuned for minute 1:22:20, where Tom recounts his unforgettable trip into an abandoned marble quarry with “Mad Mountain Jim” and the discovery of the very stone used for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

War and Trauma US Army In Kuwait, Before The Invasion of Iraq. In the early morning darkness of March 23, 2003, just three days after the official start of the Iraq War, a shocking act of violence erupted, not from an outside enemy, but from within the ranks of the U.S. Army. It was an act that forever changed Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Bart Womack’s life, and would later become the central focus of his gripping book, Embedded Enemy. Stationed at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait, the Headquarters of the 101st Airborne Division was making final preparations for the invasion of Iraq. But that night, as soldiers tried to rest before crossing the border, an explosion shattered the calm. A grenade was tossed into a tent. Seconds later, gunfire rang out. Smoke, confusion, and panic followed.
