Do you want to learn how to use food as medicine and heal from the inside out? Look no further than this episode of The Wellness Revolution podcast with host Amber Shaw and special guest Elissa Goodman, a cleanse expert and best-selling author. Elissa's journey began with a low white blood cell count as a child, leading to constant sickness and a reliance on sugar and caffeine for energy. After moving to New York and climbing the corporate ladder, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 32. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer at 43 and lost his battle a year and a half later. Elissa decided it was time to take her health more seriously and became an Integrative Holistic Nutritionist. This wake-up call led Elissa to therapy, self-help books, yoga, juicing, and other alternative healing methods. Elissa's story is a testament to the power of using food as medicine and taking control of your health. She emphasizes the importance of simple shifts in habits rather than focusing on outcomes. Elissa shares her expert insight on the power of juicing, intermittent fasting, and cellular hydration. According to Elissa, juicing is a great way to quickly and easily get essential nutrients into your bloodstream and cells. Elissa and Amber also discuss the importance of paying attention to added sugars, reducing inflammatory foods, incorporating whole foods into your diet, and reducing processed foods. Elissa's approach to health and wellness goes beyond just nutrition. She takes a holistic approach, looking at all aspects of her clients' lives to find the root cause of their health issues. “One of the biggest things about being unhealthy is we are so hard on ourselves. We don't love ourselves.” -Elissa Goodman There's a lot of pressure to be healthy. We want to feel better, and we know what makes us feel better: not eating a bunch of junk food that makes us feel like crap. But sometimes, we just don't have it in us to eat right, hydrate, or exercise enough. And then we beat ourselves up for not being able to do it—for feeling bad about our bodies and ourselves. But it's not too late for us to treat our body with more kindness and love. In this episode, Justine interviews Elissa Goodman, the creator of S.O.U.P. Cleanse. Her program is a guide to help others detoxify and heal themselves in a natural way. Elissa's health journey began in her early 30's when she learned that she has cancer, Celiac Disease, and Hashimoto's Disease. Her doctors suggest that she start chemotherapy and a host of healing strategies right away, but with her weak immune system, she knew her body would give out. But Elissa is not one to give up. She searched for a way to heal naturally and also strengthen her body along the way. Today, Elissa is cancer-free and has built a business from her passion for helping others heal holistically. Listen in as Justine and Elissa talk about how pathogens and toxins affect our health, the importance of hydration, how to get started with detox, how our own health journey can impact our loved ones, especially our kids, and how we can find what recipe is best for us. Meet Elissa: Elissa Goodman is the creator of S.O.U.P. Cleanse, a program designed to deliver a gentle cleanse using superfoods, organic, anti-inflammatory, and alkaline-rich food. Elissa has over 10 years of experience as a holistic nutritionist. Her business is a product of her own healing journey from cancer, Celiac disease, and Hashimoto's disease. As she noticed a tremendous transformation in her health, Elissa began to share her discovery to help others heal as well. Today, Elissa remains cancer-free. Her book, Cancer Hacks not only tells her story and that of her late husband but also serves as a guide to cancer patients and their families to overcome their fears and start their own healing journey. Elissa was living the American dream. She had a prestigious job, the perfect husband, and the future looked bright. One day, however, her reality was broken into pieces when she discovered she had cancer. She was able to win the battle by using holistic, alternative approaches and treatments; despite the advice of medical professionals, friends, and family. Unfortunately, her experience with cancer did not end there. Her husband was also diagnosed with cancer shortly after her recovery and passed away not from the disease but rather from the treatment itself. This ignited Elissa's passion for educating other people on alternatives and holistic approaches, and to show people the benefits of a healthy life. Today, Elissa works as a holistic nutritionist and lifestyle expert, creating her own programs and diet plans based on the lessons she had learned through improving her health. She is also the author of the book, Cancer Hacks, which provides readers with common-sense, natural, and holistic advice for those battling cancer. In today's episode, Elissa shares her story and the role of health and wellbeing in her life. We learn about her life growing up, why she felt sick all the time when she was young, and when Elissa first became interested in holistic healing, as well as the moment that she first found out she had cancer. You'll also gain some insight into why Elissa chose the approach she did and the steps she took to living a healthier life, plus so much more. Don't miss out on this inspiring story and insightful conversation with health and wellness expert, Elissa Goodman!
What does it mean to cleanse? For many, the word throws up images of green juices and fasting. But that's not quite accurate. You might be surprised to learn that you can cleanse in a gentler way. But you also need to go beyond diet if you want to really reset your body. Elissa Goodman looks 20 years younger than her age; you might think she's been blessed with great genes. But, she was not the healthiest child. She had a low immune system and was always sick. She got every type of virus, digestive issues, tonsillitis, chickenpox, chronic fatigue - you name it, she had it. To make matters worse, she felt unworthy compared to her high-achieving Type A personality parents. Fast-forward to adulthood, Elissa went to college, got into advertising, and climbed that corporate ladder because she was determined to make her parents proud. But she wasn't following her passion or purpose. She just worked. And got sicker. And one day she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. She knew that this was because she'd been sick most of her life and that her lymphatic system was full of toxins that she'd been unable to clear. But she hadn't thought of the emotional aspect. The doctors she saw first just talked of chemo and freezing her eggs. But one of them was different. He sat her down and asked: Are you happy? Are you doing what you love? It was a turning point. Elissa realized how miserable she'd been in her job and how much she disliked herself. She knew something had to change. She went 100% vegan, she started doing yoga, she went into talk therapy, and do emotional release work. She got rid of her cancer, but the radiation caused hypothyroidism. Then she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and celiac (two autoimmune conditions). And then her husband died of cancer. It was like a cascade of traumatic life events. That's when she decided to go back to school and learn about nutrition so she could help her daughters stay healthy. And that was it - she never looked back. She became a cleanse expert to help as many people as possible get healthy the easy way. Like her 1-week soup cleanse, which contains 45 different vegetables, is totally vegan and free from anything processed or GMO. She helps her clients to reset their body and brain so they can rejuvenate, re-energize, heal, and maintain a new, healthy lifestyle long-term. Here are some of Elissa's tips to reset your body: Juicing - a fantastic way to get all those vitamins straight into your cells Smoothies - packed with healthy fiber which helps cleanse your digestive system Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables - the more the better (especially dandelion greens, cruciferous veg, and celery) Take a good quality superfood powder Thank You to Our Sponsors!
