School is finally out in schools nationwide. The NBA Finals and Stanley Cup are over. Summer is heating up. The war in Ukraine continues. The 2024 election is about to hit a whole new level. And the first presidential debate is here. Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a doozy.  Your host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) rips into all of it in this all new episode of Independent Americans. And, digs into the release of Julian Assange, the latest on the RFK Jr campaign for President, a provocative plan for Ukraine proposed to Trump, and what to expect from the presidential debate none of us wanna see, but we're all gonna watch. And how independent voters are at the epicenter of all of it.  And so is Errol Louis (@ErrolLouis). He's the beloved host of Inside City Hall, a CNN Contributor and Director of the Urban Reporting Program at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. He's closely covered Trump, Biden and everyone else for decades.  He's also a man who has moderated more debates than almost anyone. A man who also served as a panelist in the massively important 2016 Democratic presidential debate in Brooklyn between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. It was in April 2016, just 5 days before the crucial primary election in New York. It would serve to be Sanders' last stand, before Clinton eventually got the nomination. And the great Errol Louis was on that stage. A steady, strong, focused voice---to keep things on track--and represent the people. And Louis is a guy who made it all the way to that national stage, after himself starting out in the projects in Harlem–as the humble son of a cop.  It's the kind of unique insight and perspective you can only get from a trusted insider. And from this show. Because on Independent Americans, we're focused on not just what's happening now, but also on what's happening next. Every episode of Independent Americans is the independent truth beyond the headlines–and light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 49% of Americans that proudly call themselves independent. And delivers the Righteous Media 5 Is: independence, integrity, information, inspiration and impact. Bradley Tusk is no stranger to politics. He was Sen. Chuck Schumer's communications director and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign manager. He was also a political consultant for Uber. All of this experience finds its way into his debut novel “Obvious in Hindsight,” a behind-the-scenes look at a campaign to legalize flying cars in New York City, Los Angeles and Austin, told from the perspectives of a vivid cast of characters — political operatives, venture capitalists, startup founders, TV hosts, union bosses, FBI agents, Russian mobsters — pushing for the campaign's success and plotting its downfall. Tusk joined Errol Louis to discuss his new book and how its origins lie in a TV series that got derailed by the pandemic and, funny enough, how it contains a fictionalized version of Errol's nightly show, “Inside City Hall.” The conversation also touches on the pros and cons of mobile voting, as well as venture capitalism, regulatory issues and autonomous vehicles.  Join the conversation, weigh in on Twitter using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. New York State Attorney General Letitia James broke her silence this week amid increasing pressure to respond to the allegations of sexual harassment against her Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Khan. James has been accused of suppressing information until she was re-elected this past November. NY1's Zack Fink, Courtney Gross and Juan Manuel Benítez weigh in on this highly complicated issue and take a close look at the attorney general's recent interview on “Inside City Hall.” Additionally, rats are in the news. New York City's longstanding war with rats is no secret, but pressure is mounting about how to fight the rodents. Does the city hire a rat czar? Is Mayor Eric Adams taking his own personal views on this issue too far? Will changing the city's rules around household trash do the trick? The team digs in and sees what they can uncover. We want to hear from you, especially what you think of James' response.  Leave a message: 212-379-3440 Email: yourstoryny1@charter.com

A few decades ago, Rudy Giuliani was known as “America's Mayor” with an approval rating of over 90%. His response to the tragedy of 9/11 made him a national hero. The fame he garnered, however, ultimately became the seeds of his undoing, leading to a lengthy series of moral compromises. Author and ex-host of “Inside City Hall,” Andrew Kirtzman, wrote a new book called “Giuliani: The Rise and Tragic Fall of America's Mayor.” He joined Errol Louis on this week's “You Decide” to discuss the story of Giuliani. Their conversation covered Giuliani working-class upbringing, his disinterest in the 1960s counterculture, his incredible success as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and his misguided mission in the Ukraine to find some dirt on Joe Biden through his decision to align himself with former president Donald Trump. Errol Louis also shared some of his own memories of covering Giuliani over the years.
