Max Burn guest hosts for John while he is in D.C. for his book tour. Max talks about the House passing a bill to re-open the government and end the longest shutdown in the nation's history. Prior to the vote, the people of Arizona finally saw their will be done as Speaker Johnson swore Rep. Adelita Grijalva into Congress. Plus - House Dems releasing another trove of emails from the Epstein Estate, many of them from the years just prior to Epstein's death, revealing an ongoing link with the first Trump administration, Trump allies, foreign governments, and financial elites. Max then talks news and politics with André Carson who's serving as the U.S. representative for Indiana's 7th congressional district. Next, he speaks with Yuh-Line Niou who served as a member of the New York State Assembly for the 65th district. She gives insight into the shifting political sands in the nation's largest city, following Zohran Mamdani's mayoral election victory. And finally, Max jokes with award-winning investigative reporter Brian J. Karem and they talk about the Epstein files and his latest book "Free the Press: The Death of American Journalism and How to Revive It".See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Allez, un rapide coup d'œil sur Zohran Mamdani. Let's take a quick look at Zohran Mamdani. Born in Kampala, Uganda, and today, he represents the Astoria neighborhood in the New York State Assembly.Et la grosse actu, c'est qu'il vient d'annoncer sa candidature à la mairie pour 2025. And the big news is that he has just announced his candidacy for mayor for 2025.Faut savoir qu'avant ça, il aidait des familles qui risquaient de perdre leur logement, ça donne une idée de son parcours. You should know that before that, he was helping families who were at risk of losing their housing, which gives an idea of his background.Premièrement, son positionnement politique. Firstly, his political positioning.Bon, il se dit socialiste démocrate. Well, he calls himself a democratic socialist.Son truc, c'est vraiment les luttes sur le terrain, la justice sociale. His thing is really grassroots struggles, social justice.Il n'hésite pas à critiquer l'establishment démocrate qu'il trouve souvent trop lié à la finance. He does not hesitate to criticize the Democratic establishment, which he often finds too closely linked to finance.Deuxièmement, quelques actions marquantes. Secondly, a few notable actions. On l'a vu par exemple défendre les chauffeurs de taxi de New York qui étaient complètement surendettés. For example, we saw him defend New York taxi drivers who were completely over-indebted.Il milite aussi beaucoup pour des loyers plus abordables et pour un système de transport public qui serait gratuit ou en tout cas quasi gratuit. He also campaigns heavily for more affordable rents and for a public transportation system that would be free, or at least nearly free.Et enfin, sa candidature à la mairie de New York. And finally, his candidacy for mayor of New York.Ça pourrait être historique, hein. It could be historic, you know.S'il gagne, il deviendrait le premier maire musulman et d'origine sud-asiatique de la ville. If he wins, he would become the city's first Muslim and South Asian-origin mayor. Hébergé par Acast. Visitez acast.com/privacy pour plus d'informations.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. NY correspondent Luke Tress joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Democrat Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. The far-left anti-Israel activist, a state assemblymember, is, at 34, the city’s youngest mayor in over a century. We talk about concerns among some of New York’s large Jewish community and early reactions from communal organizations. Mamdani has previously stated his intention not to invest city funds in Israel bonds, in keeping with the current comptroller’s decision not to reinvest when $39 million in bonds matured in 2023. In May 2023, Mamdani, then a member of the New York State Assembly, introduced a bill called “Not on our dime!: Ending New York funding of Israeli settler violence act.” Tress weighs in on what powers Mamdani has to enact his ideological anti-Israel stance. And finally, we discuss a cartoon from the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinians, Francesca Albanese. Last week, Albanese posted a cartoon denouncing Israel, depicting what appears to be a global spiderweb, in an image that experts said echoed age-old antisemitic tropes. We hear what Tress heard from experts.Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Just a year ago almost no one had ever heard of him. Just a name in a crowd. A fairly obscure member of the New York State Assembly. Just one in a packed pool of Democratic candidates running for mayor of New York City. A longshot. Now he is the leading candidate in the city's mayoral race next Tuesday, November 4. A Democratic socialist who has ignited a movement. A glimmer of hope amid dark days. Hope for not just New York City, but elsewhere around the country, and a road map for other progressive candidates.BIG NEWS! William J. Federer is a nationally known speaker, historian, author, and president of Amerisearch, Inc. He is the speaker on "The American Minute" daily broadcast. Polls seem to show that Gen "Z" voters (age 18-29) are drawn to socialism and therefore it's this demographic that appears to be the source for the current popularity of candidates like Zohran Mamdani who is a New York State Assembly member running for mayor of New York. What's behind this appeal for socialism? William explained that there's two ways for people to give up their freedom: fear and free stuff. After WWII and the cold war, the communists couldn't defeat America from the outside so they tried doing it from the inside. It's the idea of making everyone dependent. He used the example of wild pigs. You put a post in the ground and throw some corn down. The pigs come and eat the corn and ignore the post. You keep adding posts and throwing down more and more corn. Eventually all you'll have left is a small opening for the pigs to enter the circle. The pigs will still squeeze their way in. Eventually, you shut the gate behind them and you've caught yourself some wild pigs. In other words, you've trapped them by dependency. Drug dealers use a similar approach in order to take over a neighborhood. They can cause fear by use of guns or they can be so nice that for a time they give away free drugs. They may do this until you are hooked at which point you are dependent upon the dealer as the source to supply your addiction. These examples are known as the Cloward-Piven Strategy, named after Richard Cloward and Frances Piven who were professors at Columbia University.

On today's podcast: 1) President Trump declares a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, but Israel is accusing Iran of breaching it. President Trump declared the ceasefire after a night of attacks, saying Iran had "gotten it out of their system" and thanking Tehran for giving early notice of their missile strike on a US air base in Qatar. Israel agreed to the truce as long as Iran did not launch further attacks, and the Iranian government signaled it would abide by those terms, according to a senior White House official. 2) Voters in New York head to the polls for the Democratic Mayoral Primary. Polls open at 6 am on Tuesday and voters will choose from 11 candidates who are running for the official Democratic ticket. Surveys show the contest is expected to come down to former Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York State Assembly member, Zohran Mamdani. 3) President Trump blasts Jay Powell again hours before the Fed chair speaks to Congress. Powell will testify before the House Financial Services Committee and the Senate Banking Committee this week, explaining why interest rates will likely remain steady until at least September. In a post on social media, President Trump says he hopes Congress b"really works" Powell over for not lowering rates already.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today, on the Hudson Mohawk Magazine, First, Mark Dunlea brings us coverage from the news conference hosted by Beyond Plastics after the New York State Assembly ended the legislative session without voting on the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act. Then, Melissa Bromley talks with Corrine Carrey of Compassion and Choices to get her reaction to the passage of the Medical Assisted Aid in Dying Bill in the State Assembly. Later on, Hugh Johnson joins us to discuss local weather and to give us a forecast of what's in-store for the week. After that, Joanna Dreby and Moses Nagel bring us the weekly series Everybody Moves that profiles the immigration stories of the members of our community. This week we hear from Hassan Elminyawi. Finally, Susan Brink talks with Danny Melnick, President of Absolutely Live Entertainment, which produces the Saratoga Jazz Festival about the upcoming June 28th -29th festival.
For the second year in a row, the Democratic supermajority- controlled New York State Assembly failed to vote on the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (A1749 Glick) despite the bill having enough votes to pass. Beyond Plastics held a news conference with leaders from Brookhaven Landfill Action and Remediation Group, NAACP NYS Niagara Falls branch, and NYPIRG to discuss the implications of the Assembly failing to act as the federal government launches a full-scale attack on the climate, environment, and public health. The group also discussed the plastics and chemicals industries' lobbying tactics against the bill, and how the Assembly let the clock run out in the waning days of session.
How do parents and other caregivers know if there are firearms in homes where their children play? And how should they ask about how those guns are stored? According to the CDC, the vast majority of firearm deaths involving young children are the result of guns that were not stored safely. A bill enacting "Francesco's law" passed the New York State Assembly on Wednesday. In part, it establishes "violations for the failure to safely store rifles, shotguns, and firearms in the presence of a minor or a prohibited person." Our guests this hour discuss how to communicate about firearm storage and safety. We have a cool one for you today, a conversation with New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Currently, Mamdani is a member of the New York State Assembly. He’s a Democratic Socialist running in the Democratic primary against a pretty busy slate of contenders, and he’s polling second to former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who only recently entered the race. Now Mamdani was the first candidate to hit the fundraising threshold for city matching funds—setting it in record time—and doing it primarily through small dollar donations. His campaign is extremely organized, and it’s galvanized New Yorkers in every borough with a stunning clarity of message. Now, in many ways, to us, at least, Zohran has captured the zeitgeist as it feels like his campaign is a proxy for the discontent felt not just in urban areas, but throughout the country. So it’s our great pleasure to welcome to the show Zohran Mamdani. Vernon begins his of African Americans and Labor in a discussion with Julian Hill, an abolitionist and lawyer who specializes in the solidarity economy. Julian Hill is an assistant professor at Georgia State University College of Law. That's the simple Venn diagram Micah Lasher is embracing as he begins his freshman year in the New York State Assembly. In this first installment of a recurring series about Micah's new life as a legislator, he and Bradley discuss the tribal customs of Albany, the challenges of balancing public safety with civil liberties, and the structural issues contributing to New York's housing crisis. The most powerful force in Albany isn't ideology, says Micah, it's "status quo bias." Breaking through that is the hardest part of governing. This episode was taped at P&T Knitwear at 180 Orchard Street — New York City's only free podcast recording studio.Send us an email with your thoughts on today's episode: info@firewall.media.Subscribe to Bradley's weekly newsletter, follow Bradley on Linkedin + Substack + YouTube, be sure to order his new book, Vote With Your Phone.

Hey there, music lovers. Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives. I'm your host, Jeff Miers. Today on the podcast, I'm happy to welcome former Congressman and current President of Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, NY, Brian Higgins. After growing up in Buffalo, and graduating from Buffalo State College and Harvard University, Brian worked his way from the Buffalo Common Council through the New York State Assembly and finally, to the US House of Representatives, where he served as Democratic representative of New York's 26th congressional district for more than a decade. Brian left office in early 2024, citing what he called “a growing dysfunction in Congress” as his reason for moving on. So why is a career politician a guest on a podcast dedicated to the majesty of music? Well, for as long as I've known him, Brian has been a passionate supporter of music & the arts. And a career in politics did nothing to dull his deep love for music. Brian remains a true fan, one who speaks of certain concert experiences in his life as nigh on religious events. His career's second act , as the President of Shea's, places him in a position to have significant impact on music and the arts arts in our region's culture. Brian has turned his passion for music into something tangible. Welcome to Why Music Matters, Brian Higgins…
