Jaime has an extremely compelling story being a severe drug user, experiencing homelessness, and the loss of his family only to hit a rock bottom "moment of realization" when he completely changed his life around. He says this is what makes him so good at his job. Today's episode features Jaime Martinez, Jr., a student at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. After completing his sophomore year, Martinez decided to undertake a 1000 mile trek on the Camino de Santiago. Beginning in France, he completed his 10-week walk at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia Spain where, it is believed, the remains of St. James, the apostle, are buried. During this deeply spiritual journey, Martinez contemplated the nature of faith, prayer, community, grace, humility and poverty. His stories of the trek are at times amusing and at times testimonials to the power of finding God in all things.

Jaime Martinez spent 26 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a Lt. Colonel, spending time on both the enlisted and the officer side. Jaime had multiple combat deployments including Panama, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was also part of the federal force called up to the L.A. riots in the early 90s. Jaime also worked on the personal staff of both Vice President Dick Cheney and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Jaime is also a double cancer survivor and is currently an environmental law attorney. TEA is investigating the fact that SISD graduated students without proper credits. We all know that technology is influencing the future. From easier ways to communicate to money-saving software – technology is surrounding every part of our everyday lives, including education. Just recently here in Indianapolis, edTech startup Mimir was acquired by Silicon Valley based HackerRank— a developer skills platform that helps businesses evaluate software developers based on skill. A history class at UNC Pembroke worked to erect a North Carolina highway historical marker recognizing the 1958 ousting of the Ku Klux Klan by members of the Lumbee community.
