Send us a textAfter returning from the AC Bachelor Invitational, EstoBro welcomes back Magikarp to the program. The guest is the first substitute guest of the podcast with TV officially locked in for wedding mode. They begin the show with talking about One Piece (3:30) and all the exciting anime that is on the horizon later in the year. The newly elected pope of the Catholic church was elected today, Pope Leo XIV, the first American cardinal to lead the faith...and he is also from the city of Chicago. In discovery, EstoBro confirmed that His Holiness is a Cubs fan, and the host takes the time to talk Chicago Cubs baseball with Magikarp because he hardly gets the chance to do so (13:20). After an electric start to the season, the pair make the criticism of what this team needs for additions in order to make a deep run in the playoffs down the stretch. When they pivot to multimedia news, they also applaud the MCU's latest installment of "The New Avengers" but you probably know it better as the Thunderbolts* (27:25). With the latest comic book film at the movies, EstoBro confirms that this film truly deserves the claim, "Best film since Avengers: Endgame," after a remarkable performance. This was the perfect film to get prepare for Fantastic Four: First Steps that is set to release this summer. Finally in nerdcore, with Magikarp being a fellow Pokémon trainer, he joins EstoBro with criticizing the soon to be released Nintendo Switch 2 (47:45). As the countdown for the new system goes on, the pair put some criticism of some other major titles being released upon rollout and even entertain of 'ETPC's Smash Injustice' with major video game characters left off the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Theme song made by iamRavedadInteract with the Gents of the podcast on the following social media platforms:X (Formally known as Twitter) YouTube InstagramBlog/websiteJoin the Discord serverSubscribe to the official playlist of the podcast

Pidgeot is here and we finally got some real entries to chew on, with metrics and everything! Magikarp beware! Follow along with the entries below:Red & Blue: When hunting, it skims the surface of water at high speed to pick off unwary prey such as MAGIKARP.Yellow: This POKéMON flies at Mach 2 speed, seeking prey. Its large talons are feared as wicked weapons.Gold: Its well-developed chest muscles make it strong enough to whip up a gusty windstorm with just a few flaps.Silver: It spreads its beautiful wings wide to frighten its enemies. It can fly at Mach 2 speed.Crystal: Its outstanding vision allows it to spot splashing MAGIKARP, even while flying at 3300 feet.Ruby & Sapphire: This POKéMON has a dazzling plumage of beautifully glossy feathers. Many TRAINERS are captivated by the striking beauty of the feathers on its head, compelling them to choose PIDGEOT as their POKéMON.Diamond Pearl Platinum: By flapping its wings with all its might, PIDGEOT can make a gust of wind capable of bending tall trees.Photodex: When Pidgeot flaps its wings, it can whip up a gust of wind capable of blowing away just about anything. It also has excellent vision and can zero in on leaping Magikarp from a far-off distance.BTB: A great way to establish air supremacy in your neighbourhood, Pidgeot has presumably very beautiful plumage and can blow all sorts of things away.Cover design by Kwesi PhillipsMusic by Junichi Masuda and Go IchinoseLeave us a tip athttps://ko-fi.com/beyondtheball

POST- PDF- https://erickimphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/KING-OF-THE-STREETS-2.pdf # KING OF THE STREETS Recently, I embarked on an adventure with Seneca, my son. We visited the central library in downtown LA, a magnificent place. If you drive to downtown LA, park at the central public library, and with a valid Los Angeles public library card, parking costs just one dollar with validation for two or three hours at the information desk. We explored downtown LA, including the Apple Theater (with great public bathrooms in the Apple Store on the bottom level). We walked by my old haunts on Hope Street and Broadway in front of ilcafe. We tried to visit Santee Alley in the fashion district, but it was too hot, and another event was happening at the library, so we decided to visit next time. During our walk, I captured a street photo I was proud of—a tattooed man smoking a cigarette in front of a muscle car. I put down Seneca for a moment, grabbed my camera, took a few shots, and continued our walk. While on Broadway, I saw a group of street photographers with Fujifilm X100 cameras and a film Hasselblad X panoramic camera. One of them might have even taken a photo of me and Seneca. I felt a sense of pride seeing street photography alive and well, knowing that I had contributed to its popularity through my blog, work, YouTube videos, and e-books. ## The Death of Slim Shady A fellow rap and hip-hop enthusiast told me that Eminem released a new album. I was impressed by Eminem's longevity in the music industry. The greatest of all time (GOAT) is the most durable of all time, the one whose name will live on the longest. At a public library event near the Otis School of Design, I met a man who recognized Seneca's name from the Roman Stoic philosopher. It reminded me that names last. Choosing a meaningful name for your child can be significant, like naming them after someone who had a major impact on your life. ## The Path Forward Perpetually restarting with a fresh slate is essential. Don't be constrained by your past self or old styles. In photography and life, evolve and try new things. Seeing artists who never change their style becomes boring. Aim to evolve like a Pokémon, from Charmander to Charmeleon to Charizard, or from Magikarp to Gyarados. ## Random Pokémon Thoughts If you're born around 1988, you probably played or watched Pokémon. Today's kids still know what Pokémon is. Thinking of yourself as a high-level Snorlax can help you ignore annoying behaviors. Asking someone about their favorite or spirit Pokémon reveals a lot about their personality. ## Being the Number One Person in Your Niche It's better to be number one in a small, specific niche than to be number two or three in a broader field. For example, in photography, focusing on street photography rather than general photography helped me find my place. ## The Planet is Big Enough With over 8 billion people, even a small niche can have a significant impact. In photography, although many have iPhones, the community of dedicated photographers is still relatively small. Being part of a small, exclusive club is desirable. ## Pick a Fight Inspired by a scene in Fight Club, sometimes it's beneficial to stand up for yourself and make a fuss. If you suspect someone is trying to bully or disrespect you, react strongly. This applies to various situations, such as when employees treat you poorly based on appearances. ## Vanity Objects Despite not using my film Leica MP camera for years, it's a valuable vanity object I plan to pass down to Seneca. Film Leica cameras, like the MP or MA, might be the only cameras that can last 300 years. In contrast, digital Leica cameras are more vanity objects today. ## Bitcoin and Street Photography In the modern era, making money from art through traditional methods like selling prints is outdated. Instead, invest in Bitcoin.

Thanks to Pranav, Isaac, and an anonymous listener for their suggestions this week! Let's learn about some animals that inspired three Pokemon. Sandshrew: Possible Sandshrew inspirations: Drowzee: Possible Drowzee inspiration: Fennekin: Undoubted Fennekin inspiration: Show transcript: Welcome to Strange Animals Podcast. I'm your host, Kate Shaw. This week we're going to do something slightly different. At least two people and probably a lot more have suggested that we talk about some animals that were the inspiration for Pokemon, so I picked three that you might not know about. Thanks to Pranav and Isaac for their suggestions, and if you suggested the same topic at some point and I didn't write it down, thank you too! Thanks also to an anonymous listener who suggested three of the animals we'll talk about in this episode. I didn't intend to cover three animals suggested by the same listener but it worked out that way, which is kind of neat. Some of you may not be familiar with what Pokemon are. The word is a shortened version of the term “pocket monsters,” and it started as a video game where players catch various monsters and store them in little round cages called pokeballs. A lot of Pokemon are so cute you can't really call them monsters, but they all have different abilities and can evolve into even more powerful versions with enough training. My only real experience with Pokemon is the game Pokemon Go that came out in 2016, although I don't play it anymore, but the franchise has had multiple games, including a trading card game that is still really popular, TV shows, movies, and of course lots of toys. Sometimes it's easy to figure out what animal inspired a Pokemon. Rhyhorn obviously looks like a rhinoceros, Magikarp looks like a goldfish, and so on. But sometimes it's not so obvious. Let's start with Sandshrew. Sandshrew is a sandy-brown color on its back with a lighter belly and muzzle, and prominent claws. Its tail is big and its ears are small. It's covered with armor plates, and in some versions of Sandshrew, most notably the Pokemon TV show, it can curl up into a ball. What does that remind you of? Some of you just said “armadillo” and others of you just said “pangolin.” Both were suggested a while back by an anonymous listener. The two animals aren't related but they do share some physical similarities, like armored bodies and the ability to curl up into a ball to make their armor even more effective. We talked about the pangolin in episode 65, about animals that eat ants. The pangolin is related to anteaters, and is sometimes even called the scaly anteater, but it's not closely related to the armadillo. Their similarities are mainly due to convergent evolution. The pangolin is a mammal, but it's covered in scales except for its belly and face. The scales are made of keratin, the same protein that makes up fingernails, hair, hooves, and other hard parts in mammals. When it's threatened, it rolls up into a ball with its tail over its face, and the sharp-edged, overlapping scales protect it from being bitten or clawed. It has a long, thick tail, short, strong legs with claws, a small head, and very small ears. Its muzzle is long with a nose pad at the end, it has a long sticky tongue, and it has no teeth. It's nocturnal and lives in burrows, and it uses its big front claws to dig into termite mounds and ant colonies. It has poor vision but a good sense of smell. It's a good fit for Sandshrew and some species are even the same color as Sandshrew. It lives in southern Asia and much of sub-Sahara Africa, and all species are critically endangered. Meanwhile, the armadillo is also a mammal that's covered in armor except for its belly, but its armor is much different from the pangolin's scales. The armor is made up of bands of hardened, bone-like skin covered with scutes, which are tiny flattened knobs of keratin. Ordinary skin connects the bands so that the animal...

No franchise has left such a large impact on my life as has Pokemon. From the time I was 10 years old, throughout high school and even in university, Pokemon continued to have a dominating presence. Even now I still get nostalgic about the older video games that accompanied my youth; for example, Littleroot Town and Ecruteak's theme song still make me drift back to my childhood. Whether it's arguing with friends about the pronunciation of Groundon or my parents finally buy me a $20 Pokemon deck only for it to be stolen a few months later, this franchise has added so much colour to my life and imagination. During high school, I even played Pokemon competitively, which meant abiding by certain rules and regulations imposed by a larger community. For example, one-hit knock out moves such as Sheer Cold were banned and you couldn't put more than one Pokemon to sleep on the opposing team. But I am not the only one in my friendship group with such a nostalgic love for this franchise, one autumn night in Sydney, 2023. Lance, Nathan and I gathered to record a round of the Pokemon Draft Game, this time we went and drafted four different generations for your viewing pleasure. And with that out of the way, let's get to the rules. 1)     You must select 6 Pokemon. 2)     You can only select Pokemon that originated from that region. Therefore, you can only pick Gyarados in the first region even if you can catch it in almost every game. 3)     You can only pick one starter from that region. 4)     Once a Pokemon is picked, their entire evolutionary chain is disqualified. For example, picking Magikarp disqualifies Gyarados. 5)     No legendaries or pseudo-legendaries. Legendaries are pretty obvious, but pseudo-legendaries  such as Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross and Heatran are just too powerful and made the game less interesting. 6)     One cute Pokemon is mandatory. They must be able to ride on your shoulder or be carried. 7)     After the round is complete, everyone votes for their favourite team. They cannot pick their own team. Make sure you tell us which team is the best and make sure to catch them all.

The Gents kick off the show by breaking down the controversy that surrounds the matchup...and they promise that it has nothing to do with Taylor Swift.  EstoBro attended the Royal Rumble at Tropicana Field over the weekend with Commissioner Comic Book and Magikarp, and he had to give his review on the current status of the WWE (21:15). The podcast is in full random mode when the Gents mention the standup comedian Shane Gillis and how he has taken the spotlight lately. They also bring up how the comedian sheds light on reality television (38:45) and what the Gents are watching lately. TV wraps the show with a classic segment of 'Who has the munchies?' when he educates EstoBro on how to make a New York-style chopped cheese (51:20), while the latter flexes his new cookbook flex that is Sanji's Cook Book from One Piece. Nicky and Eric do their best impression of Magikarp and uselessly flop around while special guest, Jennifer Luedtke, does all the heavy lifting in an episode all about Pokemon Go. Pokémon Go is a 2016 mobile game developed and published by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices. It uses mobile devices with GPS to locate, capture, train, and battle Pokémon, which appear as if they are in the player's real-world location. The game is free-to-play; it uses a freemium business model combined with local advertising and supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items. Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?)  BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast/ Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Special guest: Jennifer Luedtke Music by Eric Luedtke and Mark Spurlock References: https://comicyears.com/gaming/the-history-of-pokemon-go-and-its-impact/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Go#:~:text=The%20concept%20for%20the%20game,the%20Google%20Maps%3A%20Pok%C3%A9mon%20Challenge. https://webtribunal.net/blog/pokemon-go-facts/#gref https://gamingonphone.com/miscellaneous/top-10-best-pokemon-go-facts-you-might-not-know-of/ https://gameranx.com/features/id/167517/article/pokemon-go-all-the-best-secrets-easter-eggs-you-check-out-right-now-updated-list/ https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/30/tech/pokemon-go-niantic-layoffs/index.html https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/pokemon-go-plus-device-available-now/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Go https://www.polygon.com/23801567/pokemon-go-routes-zygarde-release-date https://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/pok-mon-app-put-sleep-140753507.html https://hiddenremote.com/2023/06/23/detective-pikachu-2-release-updates-sequel-still-happening/

Welcome to the World of Pokémon

Hello there! Welcome to Professor Jacob's 130th lesson on Pokémon biology. In today's lesson, we are learning all about Gyarados: the Atrocious Pokémon and evolved form of Magikarp. And what an evolution this is! Gone is the wimpy, useless Pokémon that was Magikarp. Gyarados is feared by many for its temper and destructive behavior. It's been known to appear during times of world conflict, adding to the mayhem by burning everything down. Does Gyarados want the fighting to stop or does it revel in the violence? We may never know. There's more to learn about Gyarados, including its Mega Evolution, so make sure you're taking good notes! ►Support the Professor's class on Patreon: patreon.com/wwopokemon ►Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/Jc5P2Mk6Ru Welcome to the World of Pokémon is part of the Poke Casters Network.

Jenn relates a nice dream about what happens to all those Pokemon you "transfer" to the professor, David tells a story about the most awkward Magikarp in world history, and Ryan believes he knows who trained the Pokemon guarding the gym at the White House to defend America's honor.

Welcome to the World of Pokémon

Hello there! Welcome to Professor Jacob's 129th lesson on Pokémon biology. You might not want to get too excited about today's lesson because it's all about Magikarp: the Fish Pokémon. All you need to know is that it's terrible at swimming and splashes a lot. It can also survive in polluted waters, which makes sense for a trash Pokémon like this. I would say there's more to learn about Magikarp, but I'd be lying. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: SolidGoldMagikarp III: Glitch token archaeology, published by mwatkins on February 14, 2023 on LessWrong. The set of anomalous tokens which we found in mid-January are now being described as 'glitch tokens' in online discussion, as well as (perhaps more playfully) 'forbidden tokens' and 'unspeakable tokens'. We've mostly just called them 'weird tokens'. Research is ongoing, and a more serious research report will appear soon, but for now we thought it might be worth recording what is known about the origins of the various glitch tokens. Not why they glitch, but why these particular strings have ended up in the GPT-2/3/J token set. We're currently working with this somewhat imperfect list of 135. It's becoming apparent that there are degrees of glitchiness, and it's hard to know where to draw the line as to which tokens should and shouldn't be included in the collection. As noted in our second post, quite a few of the tokens belong to 'nested' families, as we see here: Solid[GoldMagikarp]: ' SolidGoldMagikarp', 'GoldMagikarp' [The[Nitrome]]Fan: 'Nitrome', ' TheNitrome', ' TheNitromeFan' [ RandomRedditor]WithNo: ' RandomRedditor', ' RandomRedditorWithNo' external[ActionCode]: 'ActionCode', 'externalActionCode' Buyable[Inst[[oreAnd]Online]]: 'oreAnd', 'oreAndOnline', 'InstoreAndOnline', 'BuyableInstoreAndOnline' [quickShip]Available: 'quickShip', 'quickShipAvailable' so[DeliveryDate]: 'soDeliveryDate', 'DeliveryDate' [[ externalTo]EVA]Only: ' externalTo', ' externalToEVA', ' externalToEVAOnly' [rawdownload][clone[embed[reportprint]]]: 'rawdownload', 'reportprint', 'embedreportprint', 'cloneembedreportprint', 'rawdownloadcloneembedreportprint' TPP[StreamerBot]: 'TPPStreamerBot', 'StreamerBot' [ guiActiveUn]focused: ' guiActiveUn', ' guiActiveUnfocused' [PsyNet]Message: 'PsyNet', 'PsyNetMessage' [cffff]cc: 'cffffcc', 'cffff' pet[ertodd]: 'ertodd', ' petertodd' So let's look at these families first and kill multiple tokens with single bullet points: Solid[GoldMagikarp]: We originally thought this had been scraped from some online Pokemon content, but that was a red herring (lol). Eventually we found out that this is a handle of one of the six Redditors who were part of a collective effort to 'count to infinity' over at r/counting. You can read the story of that here or here. SolidGoldMagikarp, the diligent counter whose Reddit handle is now immortalised, was clearly referencing Pokemon with that handle choice: a Magikarp is a Pokemon entity. SolidGoldMagikarp gets two glitch tokens. [The[Nitrome]]Fan: TheNitromeFan was another of the Reddit counting crew. Presumably a fan of Nitrome, the British video game developer, TheNitromeFan gets three glitch tokens. [ RandomRedditor]WithNo: That was a pretty random handle chosen by RandomRedditorWithNo, the third of our famed Reddit counters. The other three Redditors whose handles got scraped from the r/counting 'Hall of Counters' chart due to their prolific posting of ever-larger positive integers were Adinida, Smartstocks (also known as ۂڊῥτӺDṽἙ£ on Reddit) and davidjl123, presumably someone called David, whose full Reddit handle got truncated to davidjl by the tokenisation process. external[ActionCode]: Google helped solve this one. We would have imagined 'externalActionCode' was a generic database thing, but it seems to be very specific to the HTML behind countless pages recording US Congressional voting. As you can see here, there are over two million web pages indexed as containing this string. It looks like a lot of local and regional US news outlets are using a standard feed from Congress to report voting on legislation. Some programmer somewhere named that property in a fraction of a second with barely a flicker of cognitive effort, unaware that it would one day cause a large language model to go berserk. The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe Scotlands most famous resident, the Loch Ness Monster. There's of course a lot of visual evidence of Nessie including THAT photo (the Surgeon's Photograph) but is this evidence honourable and trustworthy? Many believe that the monster is a plesiosaur but is that even possible? This is explored along with other theories. But where did it all begin? Well, this episode covers that too for you see, around 565 CE Saint Columba had what is believed to be the first ever encounter with the Loch Ness monster, at River Ness. Being a saint, would the power of the cross protect Columba? If not a plesiosaur, could Nessie be a buff eel, or a buff otter? What about a Tully Monster and speaking of Tullies, did the historic residents of Atlantis used to ride Tully Monsters? Could dolphins and Nessie be working together using crystals (calling back to a previous episode on dolphins)? Marine biologists will probably be disgusted by what they hear in this episode but sometimes, you've just got to open your mind. On the note of opening your mind, what if Pokemon were real and do Magikarp utilise performance enhancing drugs? If you really, really open your mind, just wait until you get a load of what History's Ancient Aliens think about the origins of the Loch Ness monster… But could these ideas, linked to electromagnetic energies in deep bodies of water, explain the frequency of alien sightings around watery bodies? All that and more on this week's file.     Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/butitwasaliens   Store: https://butitwasaliens.co.uk/shop/     Probe us: Email: butitwasaliens@gmail.com Instagram @ ButItWasAliensPodcast Twitter @ ButItWasAliens Facebook: @ ButItWasAliens - join Extraterrestrial Towers     Music:  Music created via Garageband. Additional music via: https://freepd.com - thank you most kindly good people. There was also a segment whereby we uncovered the truth behind the Surgeon's Photo in which the backing music to this section was Lurking In The Darkness, a tune from the Square Enix masterpiece Final Fantasy 7. The original soundtrack was composed by Nobuo Uematsu and produced by Uematsu along with Minoru Akao. Alongside that, you may have noticed the wonderful Dire, Dire Docks theme from Super Mario 64 courtesy of Nintendo and composed by legendary Koji Kondo. You know by now that we love to stick in special memories from our childhood and this one is particularly beautiful. On the note of beautiful, as we discussed Zora (again), there was a segment including the Zora's Domain theme from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (originally composed by Kōji Kondō). Finally, you may have heard Nintendo's Pokemon theme thrown in there as Pokemon was discussed - created via Nintendo, Game Freak and original composer Junichi Masuda from whom's work the Pokemon series music grew. Thank you, everyone.      The video of the Loch Ness monster from In Search Of season 2, courtesy of History on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgacFkMIqyE    Daily Record article with 8 Loch Ness monster photos: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/scotland-now/eight-best-loch-ness-monster-22022421
