In 1993, former Juice Crew member Masta Ace left Cold Chillin records and signed with Delicious Vinyl. Mad at gangsta rap, the way his career was going, and the direction hip-hop was headed at the time, Ace put his new crew together called Masta Ace Incorporated, releasing the SlaughtaHouse as the groups debut album. The album is primarily a Masta Ace album, but members Lord Digga, Paula Perry, Eyce Uneek, Rokkdiesel and Whitch Doc all contribute by either producing the hard dark sound the album is known for or lyrically. This album not only is severely underrated, but Masta Ace is in peak form with his lyrics and flow, making this one of the best albums in 1993.https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8sFOYlX5ZGs&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8clippa/profilecard/?igsh=MXVpbmR3bmwweWNxOQ== https://www.facebook.com/share/15PhZhgYUb/?mibextid=wwXIfr

The King Asiatic Nobody's Equal. Brooklynite Big Daddy Kane came through the 80s as one of the best freestylers in the Five Boroughs and once he got with Cold Chillin' and the Juice Crew, Kane would prove that he is one of the most complete rappers of all time.TIMESTAMPS:Weekly Music Roundup - (0:56)Ben:Westside Gunn, Conway, Alchemist - Hall & Nash 2The Game x Big Hit - Paisley DreamsUfo361 - SONYCharlie: (All released in '23)Butcher Brown - Solar MusicBloody Civilian - Anger ManagementThe Ironsides - Changing LightMMYYKK - The Midst of ThingsTopic Intro/Ben's Research House - (8:37)Long Live the Kane - (18:56)It's a Big Daddy Thing - (29:10)Taste of Chocolate - (39:43)Prince of Darkness - (49:24)Looks Like a Job For... - (58:23)Daddy's Home - (1:06:52)Veteranz' Day - (1:16:14)Lighter Note - (1:31:25)Thanks for listening. Biz Markie, who died in 2021 from complications from diabetes, was the beatboxing, clever with a joke MC who influenced generations-- either through his early days with the Juice Crew to his stint in the children's show “Yo Gabba Gabba.” A new documentary explores his life story. We speak to director Sacha Jenkins and Biz's wife, Tara Hall about "All Up In The Biz." This segment is guest-hosted by Arun Venugopal.

Big L is regarded by many as one of the greats of his time, and rightfully so. This episode talks about Big L's skill as an MC, and how we first met, which included me being unintentionally dismissive...well it was somewhat intentional but I just didn't know who he was... As we go on a quest to trace some roots to his style, I talk about the Fearless Four, MC Shan, Juice Crew, & Lord Finesse. And eventually, we get to how my writing for The Flypaper in Chicago in '92, my first Hip Hop journalism gig, led to me meeting Grav, who formed a group called Indigenous Theory with Black Man Zeke, who I was the producer for previous to him being in that group. And, how that led to me being in Harlem in '94, where Grav was from, and running into a young rapper who was on the come up, named "L". B. Cox commemorates Capone-N-Noreaga's debut album The War Report as it turns 25. In the midst of an identity crisis for New York rap, the two Queens natives arrived on the scene - unheralded, yet determined. After appearing the "Unsigned Hype" section of The Source Magazine in 1995, the duo was signed to a record label and began recording their debut. In the midst of recording, Capone was jailed for a parole violation, leaving Noreaga to finish the album. Assisted with features by the likes of Juice Crew veteran Tragedy Khadafi, Imam T.H.U.G, and Mobb Deep with a Who's Who's of hip-hop producers (Six July, Nashiem Myrick, Lord Finesse, Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Havoc, Naughty Shorts, EZ Elpee, Charlemagne), the album featured haunting, gritty and hypnotic beats over lyrics that told tales of street life and urban decay. The appeal of the group to underground and hardcore hip-hop fans alike lead to a cult success of the album. Despite no charting singles or widely circulated music videos, the album was certified gold. Since its release, it has been credited as an album that reasserted the identity and sound of New York hip-hop, laid the groundwork for the success of many who followed after it and has now been hailed as a classic - even from the most unlikely of circumstances.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: Capone-N-Noreaga's Debut Album "The War Report" turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tribute-celebrating-25-years-of-capone-n-noreaga-the-war-reportThe BoomBox: Capone-N-Noreaga's "The War Report" Brought Listeners to the Frontlines of the streetshttps://theboombox.com/capone-n-noreagas-the-war-report-20-years-later/Vibe: 20 Years Later: A Ranking of Capone-N-Noreaga's Classic Debut "The War Report" https://www.vibe.com/music/music-news/capone-n-noreaga-the-war-report-20-years-519554/WhatWentRight: What Went Right With...The War Report by Capone-N-Noreaga? https://whatwentrightwith.com/2017/06/17/what-went-right-with-the-war-report-by-capone-n-noreaga/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
