Support the podcast by buying me a beer at my favorite vinyl shop The Aquabats are an American rock band formed in 1994 in Orange County, California, known for their distinctive superhero personas and costumes. They blend elements of ska, punk, and new wave music with humorous lyrics and theatrical live performances featuring staged fights against costumed villains. Led by frontman MC Bat Commander (Christian Jacobs), the band gained wider recognition through their children's television series "The Aquabats! Super Show!" which aired from 2012 to 2014. Throughout their career spanning nearly three decades, The Aquabats have maintained a dedicated cult following while continuing to release albums and perform their energetic, family-friendly shows. I got Ricky on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Assorted Jelly Beans Getting heckled on stage Almost becoming the drummer for Blink What did he bring to the Aquabats creatively Touring with the Offspring Yo, Gabba Gabba Do they always call each other by their stage names Josh Freeze And a ton more Lastly if you're looking to advertise on the podcast I have pricing starting at $20 so just hit me up at thiswasthescene@gmail.com or on my instagram thiswasthescene which you should also go and follow.

Joe marvels at Weezer's bass player's fortitude after playing Coachella right after his wife had been shot by police in following a hit-and-run incident. Joe also reviews the latest numbers from the Box Office (Minecraft is on top, and highly recommends it). Joe is blown away by The Penguin Lessons (there's a sentence I'd never thought I'd write...). And more people are complaining about musicians not getting paid enough for their songs getting streamed. Joe thinks it's weird.

His substance use escalated during the pandemic, when he was isolated and with all the time in the world to drink and use as he pleased. Presley's use spiraled until early 2023 an arrest on a small charge made him finally understand that he needed to make a change. On this episode of Addiction Talk, Presley gets real about child stardom, trauma, addiction, and how he's turned his life around today.

In memory of our friend Cleve Hall we are rebroadcasting his first appearance on The Dark Mark Show from 2019 Today's fun sized episode is probably the gothiest Dark Mark Show yet as Mark welcomed the "goth Mr. Rogers" Cleve Hall and Rotten Kitty to the lighter side of the dark side Cleve started as a child making Godzilla suits which led to him appearing and making costumes for Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and has worked on such films and TV shows as ReAnimator, Troll, Yo Gabba Gabba and the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as well as working with musicians such as Devo, KISS, Alice Cooper and Insane Clown Posse. He talks about his own reality show Monster Man and what was actually real and what wasn't, explains why you should always name your hearse, why practical effects are better than CGI and what it's like living next to a graveyard.  Kitty cleared misconceptions up in that she has performed at burlesque shows, but not as a dancer, as an MC only. She waxed nostalgic for her days as a child star and the ever dwindling residual checks she would receive. She recalled a particularly bloody modelling session and how much she enjoyed the original Clash of The Titans, Harry Hamlin's hair and the mechanical owl notwithstanding. Well here's a bit of sweet news! Our guest this week is the Mighty Grouch from Grouch & Eligh and The Legendary Living Legends crew. Here to remind you about the highly anticipated full-album release from Living Legends called The Return, after nearly 18 years since their last album “Classic” and to also promote the upcoming 'How the Grouch Stole Christmas' tour, which this year features The Living Legends, Brother Ali, Reverie & DJ Fresh. For as long as I've been listening to the Grouch's music it's a real trip to be actually having a conversation with him and creating art for him. On this episode 72 of The DOD45 Show, I draw a Where the Wild Things Are themed piece with some of those pesky toy plastic bowling pins, that will make sense later in this episode. And In the intro, I give a detailed list of my many favorite Grouch tracks spanning over his 20+ years as an underground hip-hop artist on an impressive grind. With the Grouch we also discuss his 10 year stint living on the island of Maui, producing the Slug & Murs' Felt Album: a Tribute to Christina Ricci, and he shares with us a list of very impressive people that he has the utmost respect for, which includes Erykah Badu, Leon Bridges, Ab-Soul, Slug, Mos Def and more. Sage Francis joins the conversation via the Sage's Social Media Lurk segment, to ask about a Grouch post from 2012 which leads us into a discussion of what we deem to be proper social media etiquette. And Mr. Dibbs joins us through his segment to ask for clarification regarding a photograph of a gloriously dressed Grouch leering behind Dibbs in the backstage tunnel at the recent Atmosphere Red Rocks show. All of that and other mentions of things like Corey Haim & Corey Feldman, Zion-I, Monty Python, The Thing, Ash's Severed Hand, Christina Ricci, Christina Aguilera, Jay Electronica, Blackalicious, Vanity, ET, Kris Kros, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Yo Gabba Gabba and more. It's a real honor for the Grouch to be lending us his time, so put away that curling iron, light up the mosquito coil, nuzzle up with bucket of buttered popcorn & turn your attention to this episode 72 of The DOD45 Show with The Grouch. Do you ever wonder who makes those chalkboard signs at Trader Joe's? Well, that's how Benjamin Soto got started—drawing Trader Joe's signs by day and designing band merch at night for Fearless Records. In 1998, Ben was recruited by Paul Frank to help kick off the massive millennial pop-culture brand Paul Frank Industries. Ben managed the brand creative for about 10 years, which meant involvement with character designs, the tee and fleece program, pajama prints, photoshoots, trade show booths, retail spaces, collaborations/licensed products. They even let him voice Julius the Monkey on the pilot show of Yo-Gabba-Gabba. In 2008, Disney Animation called and gave Ben the job of helping to create and Art Direct a cartoon based on Evel Knievel's daredevil culture. The Emmy nominated show Kick Buttowski had 52 episodes and aired between 2010-2012. Ben eventually left Disney to partner up with some other entrepreneurs to start the next creative adventure: C-Preme. They had captured "lightning in a bottle" with their 3-D youth bicycle helmet brand, Raskullz. Within three years, they had sold over 3 million helmets and countless other outdoor products. C-Preme sold to Bell Helmets (Easton Bell Sports) in 2014. Ben stayed on working for Bell Helmets until the next idea hit: a colorful cooler manufactured like a bicycle helmet. Target accepted a huge order; patents were in the works, and before the dust settled, they sold their company to Igloo Products Corp. in 2016. Ben is still at Igloo, managing creative for the cooler brand. You might've seen a little bit of Ben in the VW Playmate bus, retro coolers, eco coolers, licensed coolers, and the packaging and marketing of the brand. Igloo sold to Dometic in 2021 for a lot more money than anyone ever dreamed of. Michelle and Ben dive into Ben's amazing career, from Paul Frank to Igloo, and his extensive experience with graphic design. Ben shares stories from past trade shows (before the days of social media) and the wild ride that was Paul Frank in the early days. Michelle and Ben also discuss his transition to Disney, then Igloo, living in Hong Kong, and where Ben looks for inspiration. What's Inside:How Ben got started at Paul Frank and stories from the early days.Ben's experience working at Disney and Igloo. How Ben finds his inspiration. This episode sponsored by Fine Lines, a west coast wholesale rep agency with showrooms in Las Vegas and Seattle representing over 50 fabulous gift, fashion + home lines.Mentioned In This Episode:Benjamin Soto portfolioPaul FrankKick ButtowskiRaskullzIgloo

Turns out this skater is taking care of the eyes of many of us. So, we chat about life, what takes a guy from skateboarding to Optometry School, and what skateboarding means to him and how it has and does influence his daily life. One look around his office and you'll see.... The stairway going up to his office is lined with skateboard decks and pictures with his awesome clientele. It was awesome doing this podcast with him, because I really have always wanted my podcast to be converstations with people I've met throughout skateboarding, not just pro's or people from the industry but just interesting people with different stories.
