At just 8 years old, Kelly Wallace faced the unimaginable—testifying in court against her own grandfather, a man who committed the heinous act of sexual abuse. Her story is a stark reminder of the silent battles that many face, hidden behind the closed doors of seemingly ordinary homes. Kelly's journey is not just one of survival, but of unwavering courage and the pursuit of healing. As an alcoholic in recovery since 2001, she confronts the overlooked correlation between addiction and the trauma of sexual abuse. With raw honesty, Kelly discusses the ongoing challenges of trust and the complexities of family dynamics, especially when those who should protect you become the perpetrators. In a poignant conversation that spans the personal to the systemic, Kelly reveals the inadequacies of a legal system that often fails the innocent, the generational cycles of abuse, and the power of speaking one's truth. Her voice is a clarion call for awareness, change, and the empowerment of survivors everywhere. Join us as we dive into a narrative that, while difficult, is necessary for shedding light on the shadows of abuse and the strength it takes to stand against it. Kelly's story is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to fight back and forge a path towards a brighter, more just future. Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space for Controversy. A few episodes back (the wine party episode to be exact), off the pod Kirk brought out a handmade cookbook from 1972 that his mom was given when the family moved to the suburbs of Cleveland. Everyone thought it was so funny (and everyone had had so much wine), that Kirk and Lindsey decided that the two of them, along with Jackie Brubaker and Kelly Wallace-Barnhill, would randomly choose a recipe from the book, recreate that exact recipe, come back, and have a 1970's housewives dinner party. One month later…here they all are. Lindsey's married, bitches! And to celebrate that, Kirk and Linds are having a wine party with Food Fight friends Kelly Wallace-Barnhill and Jackie Brubaker. They've got red, white, rosé, unfiltered wine, Prosecco, and they've even got a charcuterie board AND chocolate chip cookies! And they're talking wine too: Bests, worsts, is it basic or is it classy, wine coolers and spritzer, crushed ice in wine (WUT?) how wine is made for talking, how getting 2 Buck Chuck in your 30s is WRONG, and, for some reason, a deep dive into perfumes and colognes they loved back in the day. (Yeah, A LOT of wine was consumed on this one.) Tonight's special guest is Kelly Wallace from Portland, Oregon, a survivor and an employment consultant. She's a frequent podcast guest speaking about her experience as a child sexual abuse survivor and Kelly is at work on a memoir about her experience as an adult survivor of CSA. We'll want to discuss the new book. Her chosen career may have helped with Kelly's recovery, and no doubt she brings her experience to bear with her clients. She's written several articles about her experiences. One, 'Life After Abuse', tells the reader that, at eight, Kelly testified against her paternal grandpa, who was charged with her sexual abuse and rape. "My grandpa was found not guilty", she writes, "I took the not guilty plea hard." Kelly's life after the trial was challenging even with therapy. She struggled all the way through school and developed unhealthy coping mechanisms including drinking and an eating disorder. After college graduation Kelly returned to Oregon and she began to develop a consulting business which succeeded as she got into recovery for alcoholism. "The legal system has many flaws, she says, and often fails victims of child sexual abuse. I was one of those victims, but I am happy to say that I am in a better place today." Kelly has over 18 years experience with the successful Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation. She goes on, "I am a business owner and have overcome addiction. With continued therapy I am determined to grow stronger. I hope my story will inspire you." Kelly's a member of RAINN's Speakers Bureau, and recently penned a piece, "Kelly's Story". She's an active member of the Portland writing community.

Ever wonder what it's like to be sexually abused at the hands of a family member and NOT be believed? Well, that's what happened to my next guest on the S.O.S. podcast. Hear what happened when Kelly Wallace bravely shared her story in open court but was not vindicated due to her Grandfather's community ties and public reputation. She now is writing her memoir after years of processing this trauma, dedicated to helping others heal. She studied with the Pinewood Table writers' group led by award-winning authors Stevan Allred and Joanna Rose. Kelly's writing honors include publications in The Manifest-Station, On Loan From the Cosmos, VoiceCatcher, and Perceptions magazines, additionally fellowships at the Summer Fishtrap Gathering and the Attic Institute, and residencies at Hypatia-in-the-Woods. Trigger Warning: The following episode contains conversations about sexual abuse. Picture this: You are a child, only eight years old, and because the court won't allow your parents in with you, you enter a courtroom alone, to testify against the grandfather who molested you. Kelly Wallace, Writer, memoirist, and co-host of the Zoom reading series, Voices Of Survivors, remembers seeing the bailiff with his gun and thinking, “that's the man that will take my grandfather away.” But what would you do if your perpetrator was acquitted and even your own father didn't believe you? Would you spend the rest of your life hating and resenting men? Or would you create a platform to give people a space to voice their own stories of survival? So Kirk invited them over for some grilled chicken tacos, some homemade salsa with restaurant-style tortilla chips, and all the Bloody Marys the two besties can handle. In this episode, Kelly Wallace joins us to share about the unique experience she had of testifying against her paternal grandpa, her abuser, in court when she was eight years old. In 1985, when she testified she had to be in the same room with him. Closed-captioning was not an option for her. She shares what the process was like as a child and as an adult and about the ramifications that it had on her after he was found not guilty -- despite her strong testimony, a thorough police investigation, and case managers and therapists who said her story was cohesive and strong. We also discuss what parents can do to respond to a disclosure and to support a child in navigating the court system.www.kellywallace.orginsta: kellythewritertwitter: kellythewriter1#beyondsurviving #metoo #breakthesilence #yourstorymatters #justice #speakyourtruth #childhoodsexualabuse #sexualabuse #tellingishealing #triumph #nomoreshame #criminaljustice--Support our show! Hosts: Kirk Pynchon & Lindsey Gentile Producer: Kirk Pynchon Producer/Engineer: Andrew Price Theme song by: Kirk “Dad Beats” Pynchon It's the holidays! And what better way to celebrate the season than overeating and yelling at each other! So Kirk, Kirk's family, Lindsey, and regular guest (and Lindsey's co-host on the hilarious podcast, F*ck You, I'm Smarter) Kelly Wallace-Barnhill, all get together to eat some yummy holiday-inspired food, debate favorite holiday songs, movies, traditions, discuss proper holiday potluck etiquette, generally insult each other, and then dig deep into why all Kelly wants for Christmas is a tongue cat brush so she can “lick” her cats. Rocky writes "The Bong Song." Plus, celebrations, custom license plates, and a plea to scientists! Comedians Kelly Wallace-Barnhill & Lindsey Gentile (F*ck You, I'm Smarter podcast) join The Party Squad as the shows first ever duo. Their wild night will have you licking the spoon for every last drop of this tale!
Every Sunday in downtown LA there is a food festival called Smorgasburg, so Kirk, Lindsey, Kirk's family, and friend of Food Fight! (and Lindsey's co-host of the very funny podcast, F*ck You, I'm Smarter) Kelly Wallace-Barnhill check it out in the very first Food Fight Field Trip! They eat food, judge food, explore Smorgasburg, eat more food, judge more food, offer food fest tips, eat even more food, judge even more food, and Lindsey & Kelly make fun of Kirk's jeans. It's time for the first ever Food Fight Pot Luck Dinner! Kirk invites not only Lindsey over for dinner, but also friend of the podcast and frequent guest, Kelly Wallace-Barnhill! And not only do they feast on tons of yummy pot luck food (SO MUCH FOOD), the three dive deep into the social aspects of pot luck dinners, debating such topics as: Are random pot lucks better than themed? Is it okay to bring something not homemade? Can pot lucks be too competitive? How rude is it to actually cook your pot luck item at the host's house? Can you keep bringing the same food to every pot luck? And, after all that eating (SO MUCH EATING), Kirk explains the concept of “Slumber Party Stomach.” Yes, that is the scientific terminology. Who doesn't love coffee? Well, Kirk for one. But Lindsey loves it and so does our special guest for this episode, friend of Food Fight (FOFF) and Lindsey's co-host of the hysterical game show podcast, F*ck You, I'm Smarter, the incomparable Kelly Wallace-Barnhill! And when we says Kelly loves coffee, we mean SHE. LOVES. COFFEE. So she's able to pick up the slack for Kirk's dislike of coffee (weird) as the three discuss how coffee can be sexy, are coffee and cigarettes the perfect combination, is using a French Press masculine or feminine, should you judge an adult who orders a frappuccino, why people can't figure out the difference between a latte and a cappuccino, and then Lindsey and Kelly partake in a speed round where they say “yay or “nay” to coffee-flavored foods! We're not sure if it's true that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, but we do know that people love breakfast. Like…A LOT. And to help dissect that love, Kirk and Lindsey have brought back (from the brunch episode) a friend of Food Fight! and the co-host of the hilarious game show podcast, “F**k You, I'm Smarter”, Kelly Wallace-Barnhill! The three discuss when breakfast officially becomes brunch, is breakfast in bed cool or disgusting, waffles vs, pancakes, hash browns vs. home fries, bacon vs. sausage, which breakfasts from other countries you would or wouldn't eat, and Lindsey goes off on a conspiracy rant about why yogurt parfaits are so inexplicably popular in the U.S. Hosts: Kirk Pynchon & Lindsey Gentile Producer: Kirk Pynchon Producer/Engineer: Andrew Price Theme song by: Kirk “Dad Beats” Pynchon Learn more about your ad choices. It's no big secret that Kirk hates brunch, so Lindsey decided to bring in her best friend and co-host of their hilarious podcast F**k You, I'm Smarter, Kelly Wallace Barnhill, to see if they can change Kirk's mind. The three discuss the proper time (and amount of time) for brunch, Mimosas vs. Bloody Marys, should dim sum be considered brunch, and Kelly calls Kirk (big shock), “inflexible.” Is Brunch Even Worth It? w/Kelly Wallace Barnhill Hosts: Kirk Pynchon & Lindsey Gentile Producer: Kirk Pynchon Producer/Engineer: Andrew Price Theme song by: Kirk “Dad Beats” Pynchon Learn more about your ad choices. Sean and Ryan breakdown the latest moves across the MLB including Andrew Miller signing with the St. Louis Cardinals and Troy Tulowitzki heading to the Bronx to play for the Yankees. Ryan was able to sit down with Kelly Wallace, a friend of the podcast, who recently interviewed Addison Russell's ex-wife Melissa Reidy. And finally, we wrap the show talking about the latest reports involving Bryce Harper and Manny Machado - which includes two teams willing to offer Harper a 10-year-deal. With the Cubs off on Thursday, Kelly Wallace of Expanded Roster sat in for Sean Sears on this Friday podcast to help me with the mailbag. First, we looked ahead at today's game with the Washington Nationals and discussed a roster move. Does Jorge De La Rosa have anything left to offer? In the second segment, we went head-first into questions about Jim Hickey, pitching development, and more. In the final segment, we looked around the NL Central -- including a satisfying Brewers loss -- before answering a question about Addison Russell's power. We finished with a question about hot dog condiments, and Kelly shared an awful pizza opinion. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The 2018 All-Stars have been announced, and three Cubs have made the team. It shouldn't be much of a shock that Javy Baez, Willson Contreras, and Jon Lester will be representing the team. But were there other players with a case to be made? Maybe even a snub? Kelly Wallace joins me in the second segment to discuss, plus more Cubs chat. But I kick things off by recapping the action over the weekend against the Cincinnati Reds, and then previewing tonight's game against the San Francisco Giants. In the final segment, I went around the NL Central and updated the standings. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Locked On Blue Jays - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Blue Jays
An exciting second half of the Thursday twinbill comes on line as Ryan Andrews is joined by Expanded Roster editor-in-chief Kelly Wallace to discuss her new site!Wallace describes the original idea for the site and how that expanded (hah!) to become a site where diverse writers would offer opinions on baseball outside of mainstream sources, and details some of the pieces already in the pipeline, including a discussion with Cubs reliever Steve Cishek and his love of high socks. In the second half, Wallace goes into detail about her recent trip to Mexico to cover the Liga Mexicana championship and All-Star game, and what MLB can learn from the baseball league to the south.Andrews presses Wallace to talk about the Cubs, and she obliges, discussing why the Cubs haven't reached the same heights of 2016, what they do about the Brewers, chasing Manny Machado and any advice she has for Blue Jays fans ahead of a potential rebuild.Follow the esteemed guest @kellyawallace, and check out the new website @expandedroster! Nothing was going on with the Cubs on the diamond on Monday, but things were going on behind the scenes. It was the beginning of the MLB draft, and with the 26th pick the Cubs selected Stanford shortstop Nico Hoerner. I talked to a talent evaluator about what fans can expect from Hoerner as a prospect, and I passed on that knowledge in the first segment. In the second segment, I welcomed Kelly Wallace back to the podcast to help me answer a few questions from the fans. That ranged from the whereabouts of Eddie Butler to a little early trade deadline discussion. In the final segment, Kelly teased her new venture with Expanded Roster (click here for more info!) and I went into a little greater detail about my own thing with The Cloud City Chronicle. I have returned for a Friday episode of Locked On Cubs. The Cubs lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale of their three-game set on Wednesday (link to Kelly Wallace's article on illegal slides here), but bounced back on Thursday to take the first of a four-game series with the New York Mets. The final score of the game was 5-1, with Jose Quintana pitching well and taking the victory. Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward combined to go 5-for-10 with a homer and three RBI.In the second segment, I tackled Chris Gimenez's recent comments about Yu Darvish and took David Haugh to task for his disgusting, pandering, borderline irresponsible hot takes. In the final segment, I recapped the last two days for the NL Central and updated the standings heading into Friday's games. The Cubs lost against to the Rockies on Wednesday, dropping their three-game set and finishing the season series tied at 3-3. The offense failed them again, but this time the pitching was no better. On a day when the wind was blowing out, Rockies pitcher Tyler Anderson dominated while Yu Darvish couldn't keep fly balls to stay in the ballpark. The final score was 11-2, with solo homers from Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant accounting for all the Cubs' runs.I welcomed Kelly Wallace of Locked On Cubs back to the show to talk a little about Ian Happ in our second segment. Have the Cubs learned from their handling of Kyle Schwarber last year, and will they send Happ and his 46.1 K% down to Triple-A Iowa? I finished out by looking around the NL Central and updating the standings. You can follow us on Twitter @LockedOnCubs and email any questions or comments to lockedoncubs@gmail.com. The Cubs not only played a game on Thursday, but they won a game! They beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8-5, with Jon Lester getting the victory and pitching well. Only a bit of a rough seventh inning from Eddie Butler was a black mark on this one. Javier Baez and Jason Heyward both had a couple of hits. The Cubs will travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies for a weekend series, with Kyle Hendricks opposing Jon Gray on Friday night. In my second segment, I welcomed Kelly Wallace of Locked On Cubs to chat about Ian Happ vs. Albert Almora in the outfield, as well as the breakout season of Baez. To finish things up, I took a look around the NL Central and updated the current standings.
