It's another Ari Aster movie discussion -- something we didn't think we would do after our "Beau Is Afraid" experience.BUT -- "Eddington" is something different for Aster, even though it does (justifiably for some, not for others) devolve into something of a "Beau Is Afraid"-style paranoid nightmare. It's his brand of absurdly cruel personal neurosis funneled through the cruelly absurd America of the 2020s, giving this film's hellish descent into meaninglessness (more for some, less for others) potency than his other films.Listen to the full, spoiler-filled episode to hear Amartya, Cris, Dhruv, and the Cinematic Liberties Podcast Guys -- Arjun & Ashwin -- discuss the merits and demerits of Aster's latest! You can (and should!) follow -CINEMATIC LIBERTIES PODCASTDo hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.TIME CODES Introduction ("War 2 Trauma") : [00:00 - 02:39]"Eddington" (Spoiler-Free): [02:39 - 39:25]"Eddington" (Spoiler-Filled): [39:25 - 1:13:25]"Eddington" & The Western Genre: [1:13:25 - 1:49:50]Outro ("Hindsight is 2020"): [1:49:50 - 02:01:51]REVIEWS REFERENCED1. Eddington is a Lethally Self-Satisfied COVID Satire [Justin Chang, New Yorker]2. Eddington Captures the Chaos of the COVID Era -- and Modern Existence [Adam Nayman, The Ringer]You can also follow us on Letterboxd at -AMARTYA: https://letterboxd.com/amartya/.CRIS: https://letterboxd.com/crislim/.ARJUN: https://letterboxd.com/arjun_skumar1/.ASHWIN: https://letterboxd.com/ashwindev/.DHRUV: https://letterboxd.com/aterminalcinema/.

From Denis Rancourt: “This means that the paradigm that a spreading viral respiratory disease caused the excess mortality during Covid is false. The said paradigm is disproved by empirical observations of high- resolution (weekly-monthly, county-region) geotemporal variations of age and frailty dusted excess mortality (P-score) on two continents in the Northern Hemisphere. Instead, the excess mortality appears to be entirely iatrogenic and induced by the imposed so-called pandemic response.” This is earth shattering data … However, instead getting a reckoning for COVID era atrocities or even acknowledgment of them, we are getting a gaslighting of epic proportion with Robert Kennedy Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya at the helm. Director Ari Aster Explains His COVID-Era Western “Eddington”

“I'm personally desperate for art that at least attempts to grapple with whatever the hell is going on right now,” the writer-director Ari Aster tells Adam Howard, a senior producer of the Radio Hour. “ ‘Eddington' is a film about a bunch of people who . . .  know that something's wrong. They just—nobody can agree on what that thing is.” Many of us would prefer to forget a fearful time like the spring and summer of 2020, but Aster is relentless about putting his characters and his audience in states of anxiety, whether in his horror films “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” or in the more genre-bending “Beau Is Afraid.” “Eddington,” his latest, is a neo-noir Western featuring a gun-toting, libertarian sheriff, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who confronts COVID, the George Floyd protests, and a mysterious A.I. data center that's being built in his county.  It's like a hand grenade tossed into the traditional summer-movie season.  The film is unapologetically political, but its satire doesn't spare either side of the aisle. “My concern,” Aster admits, “is that I don't know how much of a hunger people have anymore for anything controversial or challenging.”

Interviewer: MATTHEW ROTH. When the Sars-CoV-2 spread across the world in the spring of 2020, it triggered unprecedented lockdowns in nearly every country, including democracies where such drastic measures were previously considered unlikely to be feasible. The hope was that the virus could be stopped and eventually eliminated, and that deaths could be minimized in the meantime. In their new book, In Covid's Wake: How Our Politics Failed Us, political scientists FRANCES LEE and STEPHEN MACEDO examine the sequence of decisions that led to these policies and conclude that not only did they not work as envisioned, but that the decision-making process itself was deeply flawed. In their conversation with historian Matthew Roth, the authors describe the pre-existing consensus among health officials, that non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) would likely be counterproductive; how that consensus quickly flipped during the crisis, after which open debate was stifled; the political polarization that led to different measures in different U.S. states; and the reasons why the comparative, pre-vaccine mortality data from the states show no sign of that a more stringent approach helped.

In this inspiring episode of The HAYVN Hubcast, host Nancy Sheed sits down with Beth Leas, founder of TribeTLC, to explore how one woman's healing journey blossomed into a thriving community of over 180 holistic practitioners. From Reiki in a spare bedroom to regional networks across Connecticut and New York, Beth shares the evolution of her work and her mission to support fellow healers with heart-centered business development. Key Highlights: From personal healing to community leadership: Beth's healing journey began at 15 with meditation, a tool that helped her navigate PTSD. By the 1990s, she discovered Reiki and followed an intuitive calling to become a healer and ultimately a Reiki Master. The birth of TribeTLC: In 1997, she founded TLC Center, a pioneering holistic health center in Norwalk, CT. The idea grew from Beth's desire to refer clients to trusted peers and create a space for collaboration and healing. Community over commercial space: After 20 years of managing a physical space, Beth chose to focus on building community without walls, turning TribeTLC into a powerful, decentralized network of practitioners. Leading as a reluctant entrepreneur: Beth candidly shares how she transitioned from back-office support in a corporate job to becoming a community leader, despite identifying as an introvert and “reluctant leader.” Business bynecessity: TribeTLC evolved to include a membership model for practitioners, fostering connection, professional growth, and accountability among holistic entrepreneurs. COVID-Era pivot: TribeTLC expanded geographically and virtually adding online networking to support practitioners beyond physical boundaries. This episode is part of the spotlight series featuring co-sponsors of the HAYVN Health Summit so it's especially fitting that she shared advice for other heart-centered practitioners looking to make their work more sustainable and more impactful. About 5.3 million borrowers are currently in default, with millions more at risk. Advocates criticize the policy as harsh and confusing, citing frequent policy shifts between administrations. Medicaid is a program jointly funded by the federal and state governments. It provides health care coverage to nearly 80 million people, primarily those with low incomes, people who are living with disabilities or are in long-term care. On this episode we discussed the nuts and bolts of how Medicaid is financed and how states are handling some new challenges in the post-pandemic world. The pandemic affected both who Medicaid covered and the share paid by the federal and state governments.  In the first segment, NCSL's Kathryn Costanza was joined by Akeiisa Coleman from the Commonwealth Fund to break down the details of how the program is funded, including how the federal-state share is determined for each state. They also discussed the key drivers of cost in the Medicaid system. On the second segment, guests Neda Jasemi from the National Association of Medicaid Directors, and Robin Rudowitz from KFF talk about what they are hearing from Medicaid officials around the country. They discussed how the post-COVID unwinding of patients who had remained on the rolls during the pandemic had significant effects on the program. He was formerly a professor at Harvard Medical School. Note: Podcast episodes are fully available to paid subscribers on the M&M Substack. Partial versions are available elsewhere. Full transcript and other information on Substack.Episode Summary: Dr. Martin Kulldorff discusses the COVID pandemic response, reflecting on the controversial Great Barrington Declaration, which opposed lockdowns in favor of protecting the vulnerable. They explore the virus's fatality rates, asymptomatic spread, and vaccine efficacy, contrasting textbook epidemiology with real-world decisions. He critiques institutional failures, like the CDC's misleading claims. He shares optimism for future pandemics with better leadership and public awareness.Key Takeaways:Lockdowns ignored basic public health principles, causing collateral damage like missed cancer screenings, while Sweden's focused protection approach led to lower excess mortality.Early data showed COVID's risk was 1000x higher for older people, yet lockdowns didn't prioritize them, unlike textbook strategies.Asymptomatic spread made containment impossible, unlike Ebola, where isolation works due to clear symptoms.Natural immunity was downplayed despite 2500 years of evidence, leading to wasted vaccines on those already immune.CDC falsely claimed vaccines stopped transmission, eroding trust when people got sick anyway, fueling vaccine skepticism.mRNA vaccine boosters lack proper trials, and their long-term effects need rigorous study, not assumptions.Kulldorff's new Journal of the Academy of Public Health pushes open peer review to rebuild trust in science.Related episode:M&M #100: Infectious Disease, Epidemiology, Pandemics, Health Policy, COVID, Politicization Support the showAll episodes, show notes, transcripts, etc. at the M&M Substack Affiliates: Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. Healthcare politicized, militarized and weaponized. One must always realize that a centralized, institutional (and lucrative) apparatus big enough to provide “health” to every person, could very easily be inclined towards incentivized death especially in times of financial crisis, political upheaval and perceived global catastrophes.Dr. Drew Pinsky is one of the most prolific voices in American health who has witnessed and reported on the transformation of our health institutions via his independently produced show ‘Ask Dr. Drew'. More importantly - we witnessed Dr. Drew transform his position on vaccines during COVID which was a spectacular example of honesty, humility and curiosity.Today we also talk with Dr. Drew about health in America, what it means, where it is going and how to survive in an increasingly hostile system which seems to be more about power and profit than health and wellness.
