We may skip steps and miss pieces in our understanding, and we'll almost certainly diminish the wonder and awe that it takes to ask questions, fail, fall down, get back up, and finally break through. In essence, we lose the experience itself. What offers from the world do we miss when we rush?There is value in slowing down, getting quiet, and letting go of expectations. Patience is a state of being. Patience is a choice. It's internal, thriving in the space where time ceases to exist. We must be willing to surrender any expectation of the end result, to drop the destination mindset. The lesson itself is patience - and trust that we'll get where we're meant to be when we're meant to be there. This episode is all about the synchronicities many of us recognize in our lives. Little (or big!) signs can feel like delivery of deeply meaningful messages for our path in life, or simply nudge us gently toward our gifts and passions. Sometimes the universe screams, other times, there are whispers. How can we learn to tune in and allow this wisdom, these responses to our deeply felt questions? How do we recognize them without forcing or grasping, ending up in dismay as they flit away just out of reach? When we are open to meaning however it may present itself, we allow ourselves to grow and evolve into who we are in this moment.But what happens when the conversation stops? When we are no longer feeling the guidance coming through? In some cases, an absence of signs may simply mean to “stay” with what we are doing right now. Other times, we may need to reorient our reception. When we look for signs and have an expectation around how they may arrive, we may unintentionally blind ourselves to how the conversation has changed and evolved, missing the conservation that is still there. Perhaps we just need to face it a little differently.These times where we lose the signal may feel extremely challenging to the individual experiencing it - like an abandonment and loss of direction, full of grief and confusion.   A terrified young horse at auction has a chance encounter with a woman possessing unique abilities to communicate. What did they say to each other? Could he trust her? And what would that decision mean for the rest of their lives?  In this episode, Kerri Lake, who has been able to communicate with animals, trees, bricks, and practically everything else around her, explains her unique gift and how it helped the horse ... along with countless other people and animals develop a deeper understanding of what the other thinks and feels.  As for the frightened colt, he decided to trust Lake that day at the horse auction. That decision got him away from the people who'd hurt him and likely saved him from the kill buyers who purchase horses for slaughter. Episode #5 explores depths of self-awareness.  This fundamental question - who am I because of my relationship with horses? - drives the conversation, exploring the limitless depths of our idea of “self,” awareness, and how we relate to all other beings. Opening the door to health and healing clears a path to empowerment, confidence, and connection that only strengthens in the face of hardship and challenge. Without those pillars - healing and empowerment - challenge becomes something we avoid. But when the ease is within us, challenge can only expand our experience, deepen our roots, and strengthen our bonds.If we can make a shift within ourselves to place value on wellness, spaciousness, openness, and movement, we start to expand and orient toward health and relationship rather than competition, performance, and intensity. When we look at horses beyond what they can do for us, beyond technique, we can create a living art between horse and human - but only if we decide to partake in the dance that leads us to look at our own character. Throughout history, there have been people who seemingly work magic with horses because they were able to hear horses, because they were able to listen and relate. When we allow ourselves to trust what we see, hear, and feel, there is a beautiful unfolding of authentic relationship that gifts us the ability to believe something new and better about ourselves. When we approach horses in this way - when we weave together all the pieces that are “right” rather than trying to fix what's “broken”, the impossible becomes possible. Struggle becomes elegance. I spoke with Kerri May 4, 2020. It was insightful to hear how her life experiences has brought her back to her intuition and living an authentic life helping humans communicate and live more effectively with each other and with their animals. BioKerri Lake is the author of Listen Like A Horse and Spiritually Gifted. Since 2014 she has traveled intentionally to share perspectives, tools and guidance for people to open their hearts and include themselves in the harmony of life. Since early childhood, Kerri Lake has been aware of her communication with animals and nature. Her family was not able to support the development of her abilities. As hard as she tried to be normal, she just couldn’t make that work. Being “good with animals” put her on a path toward veterinary school, but it was quickly obvious that her natural way of being would not be supported in that environment either. She looked for every opportunity to stay connected with horses so she could stay connected to her heart. Mystical and intuitive experiences were part of her normal life. She was in her early 30’s before she connected with other people who could help her share her abilities with humans and not just animals. Using her own lifetime of experience, going through abusive relationships, healing animals and people through presence, reclaiming herself from devastatingly low self-esteem, she now offers 1-1 sessions, online and in-person courses and other creative collaborations to help others reclaim their own hearts. Throughout my life, I have been aware of various levels of communication accessible to people. After about 4 years of life, I was told that I can't possibly remember things that happened before I was born, the dog was not talking to me and the trees were definitely NOT telling me jokes. That was confusing because I was also told to tell the truth, which I had...and so an internal conflict began. Being "good with animals" put me on a path toward veterinary school and eventually studying at UC Davis. Once I got there, though, it became immediately obvious that academia was not readily receptive of my gifts and way of being. Even so, I finished my degree in Animal Science over a span of time while trying to find the courage and space to express myself in the ways that are totally natural to me. I didn't have the vocabulary to describe it, I had no experience with other people who had the capacity to hear me. What I did know is that I was able to change the energy, space and consciousness in a room, a body, a barn, kennel, city, time frame, history...through a very simple and elegant sensory connection, through my presence.
