What does it take to build a profitable hydrotherapy spa brand in three different markets and scale it to $10 million in annual revenue? In this episode, Harmony Oschefski and Cedar Hwang share how the bodhi spa grew from a bold idea sparked in Maui to a multi location wellness company rooted in contrast therapy, operational discipline, and community driven growth. We explore how sauna culture, cold plunge therapy, and a thoughtfully designed water journey can become the foundation of a scalable spa business model. This conversation goes beyond wellness trends and dives into infrastructure, financing, Department of Health compliance, maintenance systems, staffing strategy, and brand positioning in a rapidly growing wellness economy. What You'll Learn: How to design a hydrotherapy spa business model that balances water journey revenue with massage and facial services Why contrast therapy and cold plunge trends are only sustainable when supported by serious infrastructure and maintenance systems What it takes to secure SBA financing for a first time concept and how to successfully appeal a denial How to scale from one spa location to three while maintaining brand consistency and operational excellence Why weekly pool draining, state of the art filtration systems, and a dedicated maintenance manager protect long term profitability Episode Highlights: 03:12 – Growing up with sauna culture and cold plunges in Nova Scotia 11:48 – The Maui moment that sparked the bodhi spa business idea 18:27 – Getting denied for SBA financing and how they successfully appealed 26:04 – What a hydrotherapy water journey includes and why contrast therapy works 34:15 – Rebuilding the entire operating model during COVID to satisfy Department of Health requirements 41:22 – Scaling to Providence and Norwood and what changes with each new market 47:36 – Why weekly pool draining and a full time maintenance manager are non negotiable 53:18 – Reaching $10 million in revenue and building infrastructure for long term brand sustainability Meet the Guests: Harmony Oschefski is Co Owner and Managing Partner of the bodhi spa. With a background in life sciences and functional health, she brings a complementary wellness perspective to spa development and operational strategy. Cedar Hwang is Co Owner and Managing Partner of the bodhi spa and a former 12 meter yacht captain. Her leadership experience and operational discipline inform the systems, staffing, and execution behind the brand's growth. Together, they have built three bodhi spa locations across New England and employ nearly 100 team members. Tools, Frameworks, and Strategies Mentioned: The bodhi spa Water Journey hydrotherapy circuit Contrast therapy using sauna and cold plunge sequencing SBA financing and structured loan appeal strategy Dedicated maintenance management with weekly full system resets Infrastructure first scaling model with General Managers at each location State of the art filtration, HVAC, and pool monitoring systems Gender inclusive design and dual temperature cold plunge strategy Closing Insight: The bodhi spa's growth story shows that the wellness industry rewards both inspiration and precision. Sauna culture and cold plunge therapy may attract attention, but long term success depends on disciplined maintenance, regulatory compliance, staff training, and operational infrastructure. As Harmony shares in the episode, the goal was never just to open a spa. It was to build a company that could stand on its own. Homes That Heal | Transform Your Home Into a Health and Wellness Sanctuary
Ep 78 | If your gut's been feeling off or your energy's running on fumes, this one's for you. In this episode of Homes That Heal, Jen sits down with Jerry Ta, founder of Initiate Vitality, to dig into how detox, gut health, and sauna therapy can help your body heal naturally, without the overwhelm or perfectionism.Jerry shares his own story of hitting a health wall — chronic reflux, fatigue, and frustration — and how a mindset shift and simple detox habits helped him reboot from the inside out. From colon hydrotherapy and juice cleanses to realistic midlife fatigue support and the power of the infrared sauna, this conversation will have you rethinking what true vitality looks like.
Today's live clears up three big themes that keep people stuck:Centralisation is good news—leg pain retreating to the low back usually means you're reversing the sciatica process. Don't “elephant-walk” your spine into more flexion to chase flexibility while it's healing.Relief that helps vs hurts—use massage gun, hamstring work (with a neutral spine), towel/bed decompression, and contrast bathing to manage end-of-day stiffness while you build strength. Skip the knee-hugs/rounded-back routines that tug on healing tissue.Exercise is the safest part of your day—with strategy + tutorials, squats/hinges are safer than the uncontrolled loads of daily life. If someone says “no squats,” ask how you're meant to stand up from a chair. We also cover hydrotherapy logistics (why the trip can provoke more than it helps early on), how to sit through a theatre show (recline/towel + fidget), home-gym buys (adjustable dumbbells/vests), nerve symptoms timelines, walking as a relief “micro-pump,” and more.Start here → https://backinshapeprogram.com/start/Highlights:
Send us a textChange doesn't wait for the perfect schedule, and neither do big feelings. We sit down after a long day to unpack a week where a 30-minute hydrotherapy session brought relief, the weather kept us indoors, and Oakland leaned hard into the comfort of screens and familiar routines. Rather than fight it, we explore why control, predictability, and co-regulation can be smart strategies when a child's world is filled with packed boxes and looming travel plans. We get personal about the daily school run for Lacey and the meltdowns that come with transitions: the countdowns that sometimes help, the moments that don't, and the practical safety steps that keep everyone secure. Paige breaks down why static visuals and tabletop tasks trigger Oakland, offering a different lens for therapists and educators—lighten language, reduce direct demands, and protect autonomy wherever you can. We also talk about weekends, nature, and why water usually eases his nervous system, while staying honest about the days it doesn't.Amid family recalibration, Paige reveals The Inclusion Collective—an accessible, privately funded membership for carers seeking practical training and genuine connection. Expect live group education on NDIS reviews and school systems, clarity connection calls for questions and body doubling, masterclasses from diverse voices, and an active chat that doesn't expect perfection. It's built to meet real carers where they are and make support feel possible.https://inclusiveoak.com.au/ danabaltutis.com, mytherapyhouse.com.au, https://mytherapyhouse.com.au/your-childs-therapy-journey/ https://www.danabaltutis.com/services
Today's live sorts popular “lower-back-pain stretches” into two buckets: the ones that feel good but slow healing (e.g., knee hugs/forward-flexion flossing, long dead hangs) vs the ones that actually help (towel or bed decompression done gently, with a neutral spine focus). You'll learn why repeated flexion eases symptoms but strains the injured L4/5–L5/S1 tissues, how to set up towel decompression safely (3–5 min), and when a dead hang is simply too aggressive for a recovering disc. We also cover sit-to-stand cues that stop the “lightning bolt” when you get up, mattress myths, hydrotherapy pitfalls, why planks provoke discs, and common anatomy variants (lumbarisation/Bertolotti) that don't change the rehab plan.Start here → https://backinshapeprogram.com/start/Highlights:

Medical supply chain disruptions saw many without health care at the worst points of the COVID-19 pandemic. How can we boost immunity now to be ready for the next outbreak? As an intensive-care doctor, Roger Seheult battled COVID-19 at the front lines of the pandemic, where he saw the power of sunlight and other natural means to restore patients' health. On “Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon,” he offers scientific proof that green spaces, tree phytoncides, sauna, and hydrotherapy fight infection. “Anything that can even artificially increase the body temperature is going to shut down viral replication, maybe not 100 percent, but certainly reduce it significantly,” says Seheult. How might children's ability to mount high fevers have protected them against the coronavirus? How can raising the body's temperature boost the immune system and fight off illness? “When I start feeling like I'm coming down with something; if I start to feel a little itchiness in the back of my throat, if I start to feel some chills ... the first place I go is to a sauna.” Seheult is currently an active critical care physician, pulmonologist, and sleep physician in his practice in California. He is co-founder of MedCram, which has garnered more than 1.5 million YouTube followers through demystifying medical concepts. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Ice plunges, hot soaks, and eight glasses a day: Jessica Wynn splashes cold water on hydrotherapy myths and explores potential benefits on Skeptical Sunday! On This Week's Skeptical Sunday, We Discuss: Hydrotherapy, which includes various uses of water for health purposes, lacks substantial scientific evidence for many of its claimed benefits, especially for generally healthy individuals. The popular belief that we need to drink eight glasses of water a day is a myth perpetuated by beverage companies. Our bodies are well-equipped to signal thirst when we need hydration. Extreme temperature changes in hydrotherapy, such as alternating between hot and cold water, can be dangerous and potentially lead to fainting, heart problems, or drowning. Many of the alleged benefits of hydrotherapy, such as improved circulation or muscle recovery, can often be achieved through other, potentially safer methods like exercise or breathing techniques. Hydrotherapy does show promise in specific medical contexts, such as pain management for fibromyalgia, easing labor during childbirth, and assisting with certain rehabilitation exercises. If you're interested in exploring hydrotherapy for health reasons, consult with a medical professional to determine if it's appropriate for your individual needs and how to practice it safely. Over 100 years ago, an Austrian psychiatrist cured patients of neurosyphilis by infecting them with malaria. The malaria caused a fever that triggered the patients' immune responses against their neurosyphilis. Patients don't necessarily need to suffer fever, though, to stimulate their immune response. The elevation of their body temperature alone can achieve this effect. Which key antiviral protein is mobilized when body temperature is raised? How can this be safely done to combat infections like COVID-19? On Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon, Dr. Roger Seheult highlights past and present methods used to escalate "virus-blocker" interferon proteins in the body. Dr. Seheult worked as a critical care physician in an intensive care setting during the pandemic. He oversaw the use of hydrotherapy to stimulate patients' interferon response against Coronavirus infection. Interferon is “effective against multiple variants, in fact, all the variants of COVID-19 … It's a very broad tool that our body has … to battle foreign invaders, especially viruses,” says Dr. Seheult. Although lacking modern medical technology, American sanitariums still effectively treated patients during the 1918–1920 flu pandemic. What do their methods tell us about how to counter viral infection today? Dr. Seheult is quadruple board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine. He is an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of California. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Plunge was born out of optimistic vision during a challenging time. In March 2020, COVID-19 shut down Michael's float spas and with his newly found free time, he looked at the cold plunges on the market and found them shockingly expensive. Enlisting the help of his dad, they were determined to create a more affordable option. After countless iterations and improvements, the Plunge was born. A friendship turned into a powerful partnership when Ryan Duey came on board. Michael and Ryan have a common passion for cold plunging, floating, and building win-win relationships. After building the first 20 Plunges out of Michael's garage, they have since opened a factory in Sacramento and are sending Plunges all over the world! Power Quotes From The Show The Benefits of Ice Baths "From an inflammation standpoint, there are so many benefits of cold plunging after a workout. Also, it gives me so much energy, clears my mind, and makes me feel incredible." - Ryan Duey The Best Workout for the Nervous System "A cold plunge is the best workout for the nervous system. We work out to tear our muscles down and they build back stronger. By getting in the plunge, you're getting outside of your comfort zone, the adrenaline is increasing, and your mind begins to stress but you have the opportunity to completely override and go from a sympathetic state of fight or flight into being in full control of your breath. By doing that cold plunge, you have literally changed your whole body system in 2-3 minutes. Think about what that could mean in everything we do in life; that you are actually in control." - Ryan Duey How Cold Plunging Helps Heal Depression "On a time front, cold plunging is such a short commitment and when you're in a very depressed state, big things seem so unfathomable. If you have this in your house or a river right near you or you take a cold shower, there's a moment where spending time in cold water gives you a window to make a positive shift moving forward. Just spend 2 minutes or even take 10 breaths to help you open up out of your depression and start making the actionable steps when you feel stuck." - Ryan Duey Links From Today's Show Get $150 off your Plunge order with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Capitol Floats Temple of the Way of Light MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies 210 Brad Burge 410 Mark Divine Wim Hof Dr. Andrew Weil Dr. Rhonda Patrick Dr. Andrew Huberman Dr. Rhonda Patrick on her cold plunge experience Scientific Evidence-Based Effects of Hydrotherapy on Various Systems of the Body The Kaufmann Protocol Vipassana Meditation – A Spartan Race For The Mind John C. He attended Cal Poly University where he spent a semester abroad in Barcelona. The experience was so impactful that after graduation, Ryan returned to Spain and spent the next two years living and working in Madrid. After Madrid, Ryan returned to the states and began working in the front office of the San Jose Earthquakes. Soon after, Ryan had what he calls his “greatest gift”: a head-on motorcycle accident in Thailand. This near death experience catapulted Ryan into a journey of self-inquiry, leading him to the jungles of the Amazon, the inside of a float tank, and a commitment to entrepreneurship in the Health and Wellness industry. While building Capitol Floats, Sacramento's Premier Float Center, Ryan traveled to Reboot Float Spa in the Bay Area with the hopes of meeting the owner, Mike Garrett. The two quickly became friends and business confidants. Now, six years later, Ryan and Mike are taking the next step together and have joined forces to create Plunge. Their mission is to make cold plunging as common as coffee. Ryan couldn't be more grateful and excited to be working alongside such an impressive human and building the team at Plunge.
