There's education, and then there's learning. Today on the NZ Everyday investor I'm happy to be able to speak with someone who's been instrumental in providing nourishment to support my own personal learning habit – https://www.martinhawes.com/ (Martin Hawes). Martin is someone who's still dedicating his life to learning also, and although he's no longer a practicing financial adviser, his many books published over the years will continue to feed money-minds after he's gone. I suspect a lot of his work, both in books but also in the many thousands of his one on one meetings he must have conducted over his career have become core building blocks that many NZ families have built financial independence on. https://paypal.me/TheEverydayInvestor?country.x=NZ&locale.x=en_US (Support my work via Papal): https://paypal.me/TheEverydayInvestor?country.x=NZ&locale.x=en_US https://www.patreon.com/Nzeverydayinvestorpodcast (Become a supporter on Patreon) and help advance the mission of the NZ Everyday Investor! _____________________________________________________ Complete the following survey tohttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3PM7ZCY ( have your say on what you want to hear in 2022!) In his new book, 'Cracking Open the Nest Egg,' financial planning expert Martin Hawes examines how New Zealanders can make their retirement savings last the distance. With Baby Boomers retiring en masse, he has seen a lot of change in the way people approach this time of their life. There's a lot of information out there to help people plan for their retirement, but Hawes believes there's very little out there on decumulation - or figuring out how to make your money work once you get there. He says it's the hardest (and scariest) part of the retirement process. Hawes joins the show to talk about his new book and how Kiwis can achieve a regular retirement income when it's arguably harder than it's ever been.
Last Thursday we had a two-hour discussion on planning for your retirement. When you're in your 20s and 30s retirement seems a million years away, but it was interesting to hear from some of our younger callers that they are thinking about and putting plans in place to be comfortable in retirement.According to figures released by Massey University, a two-person retiree household, living in the city where they had choices by which Massy means some luxuries, would need to have saved $809,000.In the provinces, it's around $500,000, but that is contingent on having paid off the mortgage.Martin Hawes is a financial author with his new book out about how to make your retirement savings go the distance and joined Kerre Woodham for an hour.LISTEN ABOVE
