The hope drains out of the pod this week after Cardiff City drew 1-1 with Oxford. After Aaron Ramsey took over, we were full of hope, but that hope has been extinguished thanks to a world-class strike from Oxford. The boys discuss that game and look ahead to West Brom. We also hear from Mark Lewis, a Cardiff City fan from Merthyr who has been working with PHS on their Back in the Game campaign. Their Back In The Game report is here. We spoke to Mark about Cardiff City, how his illness has impacted going to games, and the work he's been doing to get sanitary bins in male toilets at football grounds. Jonathan Thomas looks at the history and work of the Salvation Army in Wales as it celebrates 150 years since its first mission to Cardiff, followed later by missions to Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and many other towns around Wales. Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Roberts is the Army's current leader in Wales, and he gives his account of some of the movement's early days, as well as outlining its work today. Captain Canon Kathryn Stowers is the Army's Ecumenical Officer for Wales, and she talks about the organisation's radical views on the empowerment of women - it was women who led the Army's early missions to Merthyr, for example. Professor Paul O'Leary of the University of Aberystwyth has studied street processions in Wales, and explains why evangelising on the streets was such a provocative initiative that challenged Victorian notions of respectability. Historically the Salvation Army's uniform has been a huge part of its identity, but as Jennifer Le Zotte explains, there is more to this than meets the eye: in reusing secondhand clothing there was something challenging about this uniform. Even more intriguing is the special uniform for the so-called 'Slum Sisters' who tended to the needs of the very poor. She describes this as 'cross-class drag'! For many of us the Salvation Army is synonymous with brass bands, and Jonathan visits the band of Canton Cardiff Corps to speak to their bandmaster, and to make his own practical contribution!

Cath Pendleton works full-time in an office in Wales and is a single mum to two daughters. But she's also swum an ice mile in Antarctica, won Bronze for Team GB in the World Ice Swimming Championships in Russia and completed a swim across the English Channel. Cath's inspired countless women to get outside and have an adventure, including TV presenter Louise Minchin, whom she persuaded to go free diving under the ice in Finland! Also known as ‘the Merthyr Mermaid' (referencing Merthyr Tydfil where she lived), Cath certainly knows about juggling real life to make time for outdoors adventures, and she had so many insights to share when I spoke to her at The Big Retreat Festival in Pembrokeshire. Don't miss Cath's tips for getting started with ice swimming at the end of the episode, as well as a minute of the sounds of nature for a little bit of escapism in your busy day. This is the story of the Irate Eight: Colwyn Bay, Bangor, Barry, Caernarfon, Newport, Newtown, Merthyr, and Rhyl. In a special series by the Sgorio podcast we trace the history of our national league, and the eight clubs that were called to return to Wales in 1992. We will hear from the fans and players who were there at the time, we will follow the story of the eight clubs up to this day, and ask what the future holds in store. Since their battle started against the FAW, Colwyn Bay, Caernarfon, and Newport played their "home" games over the border in England. But on the 11th April 1995, a decision was about to be announced in the High Court in London... Thanks to all the contributors to the series for their time - this is their story.
