Grandpa Bill explores: Some indigenous tribes sing every day they walk back home. The song they are singing is a map of where they're walking to, which guides them though the forest and helps them to not lose their way. Grandpa Bill creates his Mnemonic utilizing his methodology with memory palaces utilizing mind maps with songs. That's a fascinating concept that GB Imagines as a culture where navigation isn't just a skill, but a deeply ingrained art form expressed through song. Let's expand on this idea of a "song map" and how it could be adapted as a powerful mnemonic technique. The Song Map: A Living CartographyPicture this: the returning journey isn't a silent trudge but a melodious weaving through the forest. The song isn't just a tune; it's a carefully constructed sequence of sounds, rhythms, and perhaps even specific words that correspond to landmarks, turns, water sources, changes in elevation, and potential hazards.Melody and Rhythm: A rising melodic phrase might indicate an uphill climb, while a series of short, staccato notes could signal a patch of uneven ground. A long, flowing melody might represent a winding stream they need to follow for a while.Specific Sounds or Words: Certain clicks, hums, or even short, distinct words in their language could represent specific trees (e.g., "the crooked oak"), rock formations ("three sisters rocks"), or animal calls that are consistently heard near a particular point.Structure and Repetition: The song might have verses or repeating sections that denote key areas or decision points. A chorus could represent a longer stretch of relatively straightforward path.Personal and Collective Knowledge: While there might be a general "song map" for common routes, individuals might subtly adapt it with their own personal cues or memories associated with specific spots. We elders, as keepers of this knowledge, would hold the most intricate and detailed song maps.#SongweaverMemory,#TerrainMnemonic,#IndigenousMemoryPalace,#MusicalLandscapes,#SonicNavigationOfMemory,#JungleMindMap,#MountainMnemonic,#CulturalMemoryTechniques,#EmbodiedLearning,#NaturalMnemonics,#IndigenousIngenuity,#RealLifeMemoryMaps,#SonicNavigation,#CulturalMemory,#GrandpaBillsWisdom,#BHSalesKelpHolisticHealingHour,#HolisticLearning,#MnemonicInspiration,#AuditoryLearning,#MemoryHacksFromHistory,#HumanConnectionToLand,#SingYourWayToRemember,

All Your Best Selves: How the Performing Arts Toolkit Can Help You Thrive Anytime, Any Place and with Anyone by J.J.R. Taylor Amazon.com TBCenterprises.com This book is about a new, yet old, approach to how we all engage with our minds and emotions. Through glimpses of the authors life and performing arts career, we can see how closely life and the performing arts can come together. Enough to display the need for all people, performer and non-performer alike, to use the tools and techniques of the fields of acting and improvisation to live richer and fuller lives. These are tools and techniques developed by masters in the craft of understanding how to take apart and put back together the human mind and emotions in multiple ways. Its effects have been proven profound and transformative on the stage. Yet, behind the scenes of life there have been decades of work and research done. In non-entertainment arenas such as education, therapy, the prison system, and children with ASD, parts of the dramatic method have proven to have made a difference and helped in all groups. This isn't about performing, this is about presence, about how we grow and develop our mind and emotions. Mnemonic methods are discussed and how they benefit the actor and non-actor alike. The work of three masters, K. Stanislavski, S. Meisner and U. Hagen are broken down to display how they work in the arenas of acting, then how they can be use by the reader to grow and develop themselves in life. Improvisation is looked at and how powerful it's simple games can be. This is a book about all of us and what we can grow into be, if we chose to use the time tested tools we already have.

Based on a William Gibson story of the same name, Johnny Mnemonic centers on the titular data courier as he embarks on his latest assignment, transporting 320 gigabytes of corporate secrets. That intel is quite sensitive, and its owner, Pharmakom, will stop at nothing to get it back, employing the Yakuza to track down Johnny. Like most of Gibson's work, the world in which Johnny lives is a cyberpunk dystopia. Corporations rule with impunity and an overreliance on/addiction to technology has left much of the populace in dire straits. The messaging of Johnny Mnemonic is as relevant as ever. The issues with the film lie within its execution. Despite costing upward of $30 million, the movie looks and feels cheap. This aesthetic is only worsened by shockingly dated CGI VR segments. The ideas just weren't enough to salvage the subpar acting, shoddy action sequences, and atrocious effects. Hence Johnny Mnemonic's poor reviews and paltry box office performance. Grandpa Bill's Grunts & Groans Grandpa Bill brings memory palaces and mnemonics to life on his YouTube channel! Visual learners, rejoice! We use diagrams, animations, and real-world examples to demonstrate how these powerful techniques work. Learn how to create your own memory palaces, memorize anything with ease, and boost your cognitive abilities. Grandpa Bill Asks: 1: What's your preferred way to learn – visual, auditory, or kinesthetic? 2: What's the one subject or skill you'd love to master with a supercharged memory? Let's break down how to create and record the "J" memory palace for Janissary, focusing on the practical aspects of drawing it out. The "J" Memory Palace: Javelin & Hagia Sophia The Location: Hagia Sophia, Istanbul. This is your mental "room" or location within your larger "Janissary" palace. The Object: A giant, gleaming javelin. It's not just any javelin; it's oversized, perhaps made of gold, and emits a shimmering light. The Action: The javelin is piercing the Hagia Sophia's dome. This is the dynamic element that makes the image memorable. The dome is cracking, perhaps bits of tile are falling. Drawing it Out (Memory Journal/Index Card):GB explains within this video 1: Detailed Sketch (Memory Journal):GB explains in the video On a page in your/my journal, lightly sketch the Hagia Sophia's exterior, focusing on the dome. Draw the giant javelin piercing the dome. Exaggerate the size and make it shine (use colored pencils if you like). Add details: Cracks in the dome, falling debris. Label: "J - Javelin & Hagia Sophia" 2: Simplified Sketch (Index Card):GB explains On you/my index card, draw a simplified version of the Hagia Sophia dome. Draw a large, stylized "J" that transforms into the javelin. The point of the "J" could be piercing the dome. Add a few quick lines to indicate the cracks. Label: "J - Javelin (Hagia Sophia)" 3: Symbolic Drawing (Index Card): Draw a large "J." Inside the curve of the "J," draw a small, symbolic representation of the Hagia Sophia (maybe just a dome shape). Draw a line extending from the "J" as the javelin piercing the dome. Label: "J - Javelin" Key Highlights of Drawing: Keep it Simple: You don't need to be an artist. Stick figures and basic shapes are fine. The goal is to create a visual trigger for your memory, not a masterpiece. Exaggerate: Make the key elements (the javelin) larger than life. This makes them more memorable. Add Color: Color helps make the image more vivid. Personal Touches: If you have a personal connection to javelins or the Hagia Sophia, incorporate that into your drawing. Consistency: Use the same style of drawing for all your memory palaces. This will help you quickly access them later. Review: After drawing, review the image a few times to solidify it in your memory. Try to recall the image without looking at your drawing. If you do, you will end up spending more time on mnemonics than you do engaging with the Chinese language. #learnchinese #characters #mnemonics #memory Link to article on Hacking Chinese: Don't use mnemonics for everything when learning Chinese: https://www.hackingchinese.com/dont-use-mnemonics-for-everything/ The building blocks of Chinese, part 1 Chinese characters and words in a nutshell: https://www.hackingchinese.com/the-building-blocks-of-chinese-part-1-chinese-characters-and-words-in-a-nutshell/ Review The Outlier Dictionary of Chinese Characters: https://www.hackingchinese.com/review-the-outlier-linguistics-dictionary-of-chinese-characters-with-discount-code/ Remembering the Hanzi (Amazon.com): https://amzn.to/3P6Lm9a Student Q&A, June 2024 How much time on flashcards, Remembering the Hanzi, and resources for learning characters https://www.hackingchinese.com/student-qa-june-2024-how-much-time-on-flashcards-remembering-the-hanzi-and-resources-for-learning-characters/ Unlocking Chinese The Ultimate Guide for Beginners: https://www.hackingchinese.com/courses/unlocking-chinese-ultimate-guide-beginner/ Hacking Chinese A Practical Guide to Learning Mandarin: https://www.hackingchinese.com/courses/practical-guide-to-learning-mandarin/ You can't learn Chinese characters by rote: https://www.hackingchinese.com/you-cant-learn-chinese-characters-by-rote/ Remembering is a skill you can learn: https://www.hackingchinese.com/remembering-is-a-skill-you-can-learn/ How to create mnemonics for general or abstract character components: https://www.hackingchinese.com/how-to-create-mnemonics-for-general-or-abstract-character-components Extending mnemonics Tones and pronunciation: https://www.hackingchinese.com/extending-mnemonics-inspiration-and-insights/ The building blocks of Chinese Characters, components, radicals: https://www.hackingchinese.com/the-building-blocks-of-chinese-part-2-basic-characters-components-and-radicals/ Phonetic components, part 1 The key to 80% of all Chinese characters: https://www.hackingchinese.com/phonetic-components-part-1-the-key-to-80-of-all-chinese-characters/ Outlier Chinese Character Masterclass review Understand more, learn faster, remember longer: https://www.hackingchinese.com/outlier-chinese-character-masterclass-review-understand-more-learn-faster-remember-longer/ Chinese characters with the same components in different places: https://www.hackingchinese.com/chinese-characters-components-different-meanings More information and inspiration about learning and teaching Chinese can be found at: https://www.hackingchinese.com/ Music: "Traxis 1 ~ F. Journalist and writer Séamus Malekafzali returns to the program to discuss Johnny Mnemonic. Directed by artist Robert Longo and adapted by William Gibson from his own short story, the film was met with lukewarm box office reception and critical derision upon initial release, but has since endured as a classic of 90s cyberpunk aesthetics and startling prescience in its depiction of a 21st century dystopia overrun with corporate malfeasance, an increasingly atomized technological existence, and a global pandemic overwhelming the world's healthcare systems. We discuss the work of William Gibson, pioneer and godfather of cyberpunk; how the film functions as an extension of the worlds he created with his landmark debut novel Neuromancer, and how the film honors both his vision and distinctive style. Then, we praise the incredible cast of characters, led by a deliberately mannered Keanu Reeves performance, with support from Dina Meyer, a crazed Dolph Lundgren, resistance leader Ice-T, and the great Udo Kier. Finally, we discuss the film's breathtaking production design and worldbuiliding, the merits of art that swings for the fences, and the exceptional experience of viewing the film in its Black & White version (as originally intended by Longo, if he had been granted full control of the film). Watch Robert Longo, Keanu Reeves, and William Gibson in conversation for the Black & White release of the film. Welcome back to Film Haven Reviews!!! This week we are starting off our Cyberpunk 1995 theme with the cult classic Johnny Mnemonic (1995). This film was a mixed bag for me. While providing some really fun and entertaining world building, it also delivered some terrible acting and generic plot elements that kept the film from reaching its full potential. I gave this film a 7/10 for still being highly unique and entertaining, depsite its obvious shortcomings. For my full written review feel free to follow my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/film_haven_reviews/

Director and actor Simon McBurney, one of the founders of the ground breaking theatre company Complicité, reveals his creative inspirations and influences. For over four decades McBurney has created innovative and experimental works, from immersive staging to the reinvention of classic texts. His works include A Disappearing Number, The Encounter and Mnemonic, a landmark production which has been recently revived at The National Theatre. Simon McBurney tells John Wilson about his childhood in Cambridge where his father, an archaeologist, helped foster an early fascination with time and memory. For This Cultural Life he chooses the 1969 Ken Loach film Kes as a formative influence, offering an insight to a childhood very different to his own middle class upbringing. He recalls seeing the band The Clash whilst at Cambridge University, an experience that had a profound impact on his own creativity and political engagement through the arts. He also chooses the writer and critic John Berger as an inspirational figure, and recalls collaborating with Berger on the immersive Artangel project The Vertical Line in 1999. Simon McBurney also describes how the experience of meeting indigenous Amazonian people inspired his 2016 Complicité show The Encounter. For this week's episode of Unclear and Present Danger, we watched “Johnny Mnemonic,” a 1995 cyberpunk action film directed by Robert Longo and adapted from a William Gibson short story of the same name, by Gibson himself. “Johnny Mnemonic” stars Keanu Reeves, Dolph Lundgren, Takeshi Kitano, Ice-T and Dina Meyer. In “Johnny Mnemonic,” Keanu Reeves plays Johnny, a “mnemonic courier” who transports sensitive data for corporations via storage implant in his brain. He takes a job that requires him to store too much memory, threatening his life if he can't make the delivery as quickly as possible. While getting the data, his clients are attacked and killed by the yakuza. Johnny goes on the run, where he is betrayed by his handler, befriended by Jane, a cybernetically-enhanced bodyguard, and brought to the attention of the Lo-Teks, an anti-establishment group. They discover that the data Johnny holds is a stolen cure to a technological disease that afflicts much of the planet. The creator, a mega-corporation called Pharmakom, refuses to release the cure because they are profiting off of the treatments. As Johnny is hunted by hired assassins for Pharmakom, he and his allies fight to disseminate the cure and save Johnny's life. The tagline for “Johnny Mnemonic” was “The hottest data on Earth, in the coolest head in town.” You can find “Johnny Mnemonic” to rent or buy on demand at iTunes and Amazon. For our next episode, we are watching “A Time to Kill,” directed by Joel Schumacher.
